Where to start? I have tried this restaurant twice. It is, at best, mediocre. I will say the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is another story. Meatballs are tasteless. Chicken parm is served with watery sauce and 1 slice of mozzarella buried under the sauce. Frozen grocery store ravioli is just as good as their ravioli. Stuffed quohog is bland. A regular in the rotation for my family. 90% of our orders from this location are take out. Food is always ready at the promised time and employees at the pick up counter are always pleasant. Great thin pizza with soft and doughy crust. Pasta dishes are all excellent. Their lasagna is made with sliced meatballs which is different and delicious. Super disappointed they took the American chop suey and cheese manicotti off their menu, these were 2 of our favorite dishes for years. Skip the garlic bread - it's just a sub roll for $9.50. Been here many times for lunch and usually I have a slice of pizza and a salad. Today I asked for a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were delicious but the sandwich bland. Move over abba -- mamma mia was more like mamma meh. If I was writing the review purely on service and friendliness alone, I would give it the gold star. Unfortunately my mom would not have been entirely happy with the chicken parm and chicken picatta we were served. She takes the good with the bad, and so will I. The chicken parm was well cooked and the breading was nicely seasoned. Unfortunately it was bathed in a red sauce lacking in depth of flavor. I was getting some good lemon notes from the chicken picatta. On both dishes, though the homemade noodles were bland -- which was a shame. Have been coming to Mamma Mia's in Hanover for years and since the renovations and expansion, quality of food have diminished greatly. My previous reviews were rated 5 stars and now 2 stars. Service was lacking. Waited over an hour since we sat down to put our order in. Then waited to get the waitresses attention before we could refresh drinks. Another half hour for apps to arrive and it wasn't good. The large cheese pizza is no longer a size large pizza. More like a medium pizza. Barely fitting the pizza pan when the large pizza use to overhang the pan. Tasteless crust with barely enough cheese. Maybe an off night. Will give them another chance and try other items besides the pizza. read more

Omg! Mamma Mia's! Six locations. I went to the Hanover one. Joanne, our waitress/bartender was the best. As you can see in my pictures, you get a lot of food! It is the best Italian food that I've ever eaten!! The eggplant is my favorite. It is so decadent. You barely have to chew it. This is a must try place. So clean & homey. This is my go to lunch spot with my sons family. Food is very fresh and atmosphere is relaxed with friendly efficient wait staff. The perfect spot for my grandkids who always get special treatment and no fuss over spilled milk which is crucial for the under 5 crowd. This is a chain so caveat that upfront. I'm talking about the Hanover location only. Starting with Mark the bartender, top notch service with a sense of humor! The pizza was simple but perfectly done. Nice crust, the slices had minimal flop. Loved the sauce to cheese ratio. If I am channeling Dave Portnoy, I'd say 8.1. As for the lasagna, got it with spicy sauce. Had ample cheese and sliced meatball stuffing in layers under a blanket of the spicy sauce. We also ordered egg plant parm, the appetizer portion, and it was spot on. Generous portions! I'll be back for sure when I'm visiting Hanover. read more

The restaurant is pretty standard with a bar and an array of cafe tables. I went with two others, we ordered a vegetable pizza and a house special pizza (meats, peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.). The service was fine, nothing to call out, basic service of orders and drinks. The pizza was bland. The house special pizza was so overloaded with toppings and the dough so minimally cooked that it couldn't stay together in the slightest. The pizzas were "wet" in the middle and led to puddles on all plates. Once all of us were back in the car to leave, we all had a separate remark about preferring to not come back again almost like a movie moment. They have completely remodeled the inside and I took some photos for you to see. The restaurant side had their lights up so HIGH I felt like I was about to be interrogated. I said something to the waitress and she said something like that is how they want it. Their establishment, their rules. We ordered food to go and it was their special of the night. I asked to switch to pasta to spaghetti vs penne but when I got home it was penne (which they confirmed spaghetti to me) Anyways it was supposed to be artichokes, asparagus, red pepper with pasta in a wine-ish sauce.
