We went on Wednesday night (3/11) specifically for the Wellington and were NOT disappointed. But I wanted to give a special shout out to the staff. When we arrived just before 7 the restaurant was busy not not full. Our server, as he passed our table, said he would be right with us. We waited. And waited. And patiently. Because I could see our server. He was at a table of 7 and I knew he wasn't forgetting or ignoring us. Then he was at a table of 4. Then one of 5. Then ANOTHER that appeared to be about 7 people again. He also had at least 4 two tops. I couldn't see far enough behind me to expand on that count. When he did come to us, an undisclosed amount of time later, he was kind and thorough and not at all showing the stress I'm sure he was feeling. I saw only one other server the entire time we were there and I'm sure he was taking all of the tables in the dining room we couldn't see. I'm sorry I cannot remember our servers name. Both men were bald and one was wearing glasses. Ours was the one without the spectacles. He remained busy through our meal, and we enjoyed the entire thing. Burrata with prosciutto to start, and then a Wellington to split. Both were phenomenal. The drinks were amazing, even with accommodations for one ingredient I am allergic to. At one point one of our cocktail glasses was broken accidentally by someone not at our table and it felt like the entire FOH staff (all 5 of them lol) came to help clean up and make sure everything was cool. They were all so kind and had smiles on, even though I'm sure they were still too swamped to clean up the mess. Honestly, for our very first visit I'm sure I could have been upset at the wait and complained that our server was too busy, but erring on the side of caution I prefer to presume it was either an unusually busy night or someone had called out, leaving the restaurant short -staffed. Kudos to the whole team for working together and keeping positive attitudes on the floor. We loved our experience and look forward to returning. read more

Visited Lucca on a Friday night around 7:30 PM -- the place was packed, but to our surprise, we were seated immediately. Plenty of parking out front, which is rare and much appreciated on the South Shore. We kicked things off with the Really Really Good Meatballs -- and they weren't lying. These might be the best meatballs I've ever had. Perfectly tender, rich flavor, and just the right amount of sauce. For the main, I went with the Rigatoni Bolognese -- absolutely amazing. Pasta was cooked to perfection, the sauce was deep and hearty, and the portion was generous without being overwhelming. The vibe is upscale but relaxed, and the service was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome despite the Friday night rush. This spot is seriously underrated. If you're looking for a go-to Italian restaurant in the area, Lucca should be at the top of your list. read more

We wanted to try a new Italian restaurant in the area and this was unfortunately a disappointment. We had a 5:30p reservation and didn't leave until 7:30p. The service was just very slow. The drink was fine, but the food was not good at all. My husband ordered the burger medium and it came out so well done and dry. My shrimp scampi was... interesting. Never had pancetta and onions in a scampi before and the lemon was so overpowering. The pasta was also overcooked and mushy. Our waitress came by to check on us only once after getting our entrees. Someone else ended up cleaning our table almost an hour later. At that point we didn't even bother checking out dessert and just got the check. The restaurant itself was nice. Not sure if we just came on an off/understaffed day, but sadly we will not be returning. read more

It seems very hit or miss to me in all respects. I like the back bar and the general decor/restaurant. The food is usually very good or awful and the waitstaff/bartenders are either great or act like they are not in the suburbs. The "chef" doesn't like if you order food cooked to a temperature that he doesn't approve of. I've been to much nicer restaurants in the area where that is not a problem. Meal accompaniments are inconsistent from visit to visit in quality and taste. The waitstaff, some of them, are pretty snooty. At the end, I would have gotten dessert, but we didn't have enough time because dinner took too long. Food: 3/5 A) Octopus appetizer (4/5). Nice dish, We liked that it wasn't fried. The red sauce had a decent amount of heat and garlic without being overwhelming. The accompanying crostini was a nice touch. B) Cod entrée (1/5). Cod was overcooked, bland, with a big slop of herbs on top. Accompanying vegetables were overcooked/charred and inedible. C) Chicken Marsala Entrée (3/5). Chicken was well cooked. Linguini was overcooked and too soft. Marsala sauce and mushroom taste was decent, but there was swimming in cream which overpowered the dish. D) Wine. One of our go-to's for date night! The back bar is one of their best kept secrets. Nice and quiet if you're looking for a good spot to enjoy a meal, drink, and the game. I went for dinner a couple of weeks ago and overall the experience was good. We were seated in the bar area. We found it odd the whole section had "reserved" signs on it but clearly were not. A sign was moved so we could sit at the table we ate at and while we were eating it was clear (based on the amount of time we were there) most of those tables would not be used throughout the night. Our waitress was great and very knowledgeable. Our food was food. The gnocchi was very tasty and something I would order again, pizza is good every time, and bolognese had a lot of flavor. I appreciated some mocktails on the menu, though feel like my virgin limoncello was more of an overpriced lemonade. Overall a good spot with good food. We'll be back. read more

Food was mostly good for family but it took a full two hours for us to order starters and be done with our main meal. Is that too long? I think it is. Especially when your reservation is at 5:30. We were told there was another big party going on, but I didn't assume that meant we were gonna get bad service. And there were quite a few empty tables at the back so I just don't want to hear it that this was the issue. A restaurant of that supposed caliber should be able to handle that. It took our waiter nearly 15 minutes to get to our table and take our drink order and it never improved. My daughter had to get a couple of granola bars out of her bag for her kids because it was taking so long. It was a special occasion for our family, and important it be a nice celebration. So yes I asked several times if things could be moved along a little. Politely. Because I have worked in food service. Seeing that things really were running so slowly, however, I ordered a glass of wine to come with my dinner ahead of time. I was literally halfway through my meal when it showed up, and my daughter who did the same thing never even got hers. We didn't say anything because she wanted to wait and see if it would show up and it never did. My meal was the last to come out, waiter Julia came over to check on us and I said we don't know what the food is like because everybody is waiting with me for mine. By now I'm getting upset and staring hard at her. My meal was dry as a bone. So the waiter (who was out of her league in that place with her overdone airs) apparently felt harassed by me, thanking another server for bringing out the cake because she 'just couldn't go over there.' That this happened within our earshot is just appalling. That second server didn't remotely hide her impression of me. I felt like saying Yep, Karen here, that's me. Let me tell you something about that phenomenon, the Karen's of the world do not get respected and that is exactly why they get angry and want to call the manager. Which I did not do by the way, just in case. I'm even leaving this review a month later because yelp keeps prompting me and I feel like it. Then on our way out, the host, the Australian guy made an insulting joke at my expense about the rain and how I felt about it. Would've been an endearing tease if he knew me, but by this point I had had enough and was insulted by yet another instance of gross unprofessionalism in a place that is supposed to be so nice. Everyone else liked their food, but I certainly don't plan to go back. The only reason she didn't get a two dollar tip was one of my daughters would've lost her mind at me. It was a pleasant place to dine, I went there 2 nights in a row, the first night a Bartender named Darrell helped me and the second night a young lady named Brittany. Both were excellent servers and provided a enjoyable experience. I had a ceaser salad, Swordfish and a absolutely delightful dessert. My brother and I dropped by this place for lunch during the summer. I always wanted to visit this place but due to the limited menu, I had doubts. We were seated in the bar area at one of the hightop tables. I ordered the Lucca burger which came with an eight ounce beef patty, cheddar cheese, grilled onions, arugula, garlic aioli on a brioche bun. It was delicious. Drinks/service review only (I did not eat). Met 2 friends here on a Tuesday night. Honestly, when they told me they were going to a place in Rockland, I imagined a 45+ minute drive in traffic. It literally took 25 mins from Dorchester. I really do have to get used to South Shore living - ha! My friends were already at the bar having beers. I'm more of a cocktail person, so I asked the female bartender what she likes to make with either gin or bourbon. She got excited and let me know she was working on a type of infused Bees Knees. Yes, please! She also made me a take on a Manhattan and made my friends some green chartreuse cocktails. We were all very happy with her bartending skills, her friendliness and her willingness to go off menu (while still serving killer drinks). Let me just say that once I got there, no one else was drinking beer! She impressed us all. I really wish I remembered her name because she was so nice. I would definitely go there again just to sit at the bar and have her make me cocktails. Also! The place was just about to close and the bartender offered us a slice of deliciously moist carrot cake for free. OMG - so good! It makes me want to try the food next time. Wow! I love this place. I was in Hingham, MA for business and met up with a group from work for dinner. I was impressed from the moment I stepped into this restaurant. Beautiful decor and great ambience and lighting. Perfect for groups, family's and romantic dinners and/or cocktails. It just felt good being there. As you walk in, you immediately notice the beautiful decor and overall vibe of this place. We were seated right away in a cozy part of the corner of the restaurant. The server came right away and introduced herself and gave us our menus. Once I viewed the menu, I was pleased to see so many things I was interested in eating. It was hard to chose but I decided to go with the Chicken Marsala. Delicious and very tender. Just the right combination of flavors...yum. Our table ordered the "Really, Really Good Meatballs" (that's how it's actually listed on the menu), the calamari and the ribs. All very good. We also ordered the carrot cake, crème brûlée and the hazelnut chocolate torte to share. I only tried the carrot cake and crème brûlée and although the crème brûlée was good, the carrot cake was delicious. The food came presented beautifully and pretty quick. They also have a full bar so can order just about any cocktail you want. Everyone ordered cocktails. Red wine, old fashions and house margaritas. We were all pleased with our food and drinks. First time back in a year, overall our 4th visit in 4 years... We started with an excellent and always sure bet on Caymus Can.5.0 My girlfriend ordered a Caesar salad... This was excellent... 5.0... big dish, enough for 2 people.. I ordered the arancini.. big crispy crust..very good... 4.0 My girlfriend ordered Tagliatelle with chicken, nice fresh noodles, but she found the sauce a bit too "rich" for eating a full dish... That said solid 3.6... it's a good choice - again... Rich sauce. For me... I ordered the porkchop... Good, I guess the style in which it is cooked ( sous vide) not my favorite, but had to try... I did ask for a good chat on the grill after which I highly recommend. It tasted good, I was not crazy about bean like sauce ... And overall the chop is smokie to the taste. For me, a solid 3.0 Ended with three little cannolis, all excellent 4.0 creamie center... Mixed with a brownie I think.. Coffee was excellent BTW. So this overall is a 3.9-4.0... Extremely disappointed. If you read my past reviews you will see that I /we have been consistently thrilled either this establishment. Tonight was dramatically different. We arrived 5:55p for a 6p reservation. Promptly greeted and served our bottle of wine. Placed our order at 6:15p, served our salads (one was incorrect) and did not receive our entrees until 7:20p (we had already finished our bottle of wine!). This was only after asking our server where our meals were. She responded that the kitchen was "backed up" ... yet a party who arrived after us had already been served their entrees. The Ricotta Cavatelli has always been a favorite. Last night it was unrecognizable compared to the past: soupy and covered with breadcrumbs with the appearance of a casserole instead of a pasta dish. The Veal Milanese special was very dry and the brussel sprouts were mushy. We asked the server if there was a new chef since things were so noticeably different. She acknowledged that yes, there was. The only thing that went right was that they took one meal off the final bill. Very sad for this experience. Lucca has just lost a good customer. read more

Refreshing and modernly renovated from Bella's dingy decor. Service, hostess and waitress were rude, unfriendly and unprofessional. We're thinking as if they didn't want to be there or because we were a party of 5? The food was a total miss and overly priced. The dipping oil for the bread was like old cooked used oil. Cloudy and tasted like old used oil. Ordered the beef arancini and calamari for appetizers. The beef arancini were good but for the calamari, there wasn't enough calamari for all of us. For entrees, ordered the pasta with bolognese and the tuna with black rice. Both were tasteless. Not a good experience. Won't be returning. read more

Came here for dinner last month. The complimentary bread was so soft and delicious! For drinks we tried the espresso martini & a couple other cocktails. We were impressed with them all. For appetizers we got a lamb lollipop special and their calamari. OMG the apps were SO good. The calamari had the best red sauce I've ever tasted. 10/10 would eat again. It is fresh, not fried so be aware of that. The lamb had this amazing mint/green sauce that was so yummy too. For entrees my fiancé got a lobster gnocchi dish and I got sea bass. He loved his dish, I thought it was mediocre in terms of flavor. I enjoyed the flavors of my dish, but wish there was a starch on the plate. It was less satisfying than I expected because of this. I would probably come back for their calamari and to try a pasta dish. Overall I'd give it a 7.4/10! read more

Met some friends for dinner Lucca-South Shore the other evening, & the four of us (a first time here for 3 of us), and we had a thoroughly delightful evening! Was it because we had the perfect waitress in Emily, or was it because our meals were all delicious and timed perfectly between courses, or was it the warm and inviting atmosphere? I would have to say: 'All of the above'. We began with a delicious cocktail in the large and inviting lounge/bar. Normally I am turned off by a bar that brandishes a few of those large screen TV's, which in my opinion, always distract from having fun and interesting conversation, partly because the volume is too loud. But here, it was never a problem. We were able to comfortably catch up with each other over drinks without having to yell over the competing din of sports pundits and distracting broadcasts. For dinner, we all enjoyed the Caesar salad (including my gluten-free friend), and the steak specials that two of us had were cooked to perfection. My al-dante bolognese entree was perfectly prepared in texture and in flavor, and if you're a pasta fan, (as I drfinitely am), I would certainly recommend this delicious dish! And did I mention the ever delightful waitress, Emily? She was both personable and professional, with a touch of sassy charm and a warm sense of humor, which helped to enhance the overall pleasure of dining out & laughing with some old friends. Wow. Just wow. If you are questioning Lucca. Think no more , it's worth a visit. I have now visited several times. Start to finish the meal was amazing. You can tell the staff work together. Team work makes the dream work !! I had a girls night during my most recent visit. Our waitress was Bonnie. Bonnie is simply put , fantastic. She was informative, fast , funny. She really made our experience significantly more enjoyable. We can't wait to go back and see her again !! When we were on our way out (worth mentioning ) every bartender , server , and host said their goodbyes to us. The customer service here is above par. It's worth the couple extra bucks. If possible I would give this place a negative one star. If you do go here to dine, make sure you bring cash. Because they run your credit card through twice and never give you a refund, no matter how many times you call and explain the situation to them. My order came to $52.66 including tip. They ran my card for $94.32 for 2 cheeseburgs and one of them the whole order was wrong. Still have yet to see a refund of the $40. In sixty six cents, they overcharged me and now they won't even return my phone calls. One of the worst restaurants I've ever eaten in.
