Visited during Jasper in January. It was a very quiet Saturday night but the atmosphere was very cozy and relaxing. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived. We waited an extended period of time to see the server to place our order. I ordered a glass of wine. It was served to me already poured into the glass. The wine tasted watered down so I asked if I could order a different kind of wine. We had the salmon and the wild mushroom ravioli. Both were excellent, although I thought the ravioli was a little overpriced. We had bread with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip it in but they messed it up by slathering the bread in garlic butter. Why do that when supplying something to dip it in? I will say the bread was nice and hot. They also had some duck and lamb dishes that looked really good. The restaurant was on the 2nd floor, up a steep, narrow set of stairs and may not be handicap accessible unless there is an elevator somewhere I don't know about. The wait staff were friendly but the person who took your order was not your server and it seemed like they lost track of you once you had been served. Decided to dine at Alba's because reviews were very favorable. We arrived at the restaurant and requested a table for 4. We were asked if we had a reservation, we did not, the restaurant was half empty. We were immediately seated in the far corner of the restaurant by the rest rooms "not a very good first impression ". We ordered 3 dishes, the seafood spaghetti, the duck and the gnocchi. We also ordered a bread basket and some sodas. The sodas arrived and all were flat , next the bread was served. The bread was good like garlic bread but was served with a dish of oil and balsamic vinegar not what you would expect and not very good " generally the bread is accompanied by oil with spices not vinegar ". Next came the food, the plates all looked nice and appealing, that's where the disconnect occurred. The duck dish was laughable at the minute portion size of protein vs vegetables. The Seafood spaghetti was described as being served with a rich seafood sauce and a selection of crustaceans. The only crustaceans on the dish were four large shrimps accompanied by some mussels. The shrimp were very tasty and the mussels tasted ok. The spaghetti though was horrible, no seafood taste whatsoever under seasoned or not seasoned at all, very bland like it had been poured out of a can. I can not recommend this restaurant as it has many shortcomings. We made our dissatisfaction known and the manager tried to remedy the situation with a discount or some sort of adjustment on our bill. We refused, paid the bill in full and left. You cannot fix bad food and service with a discount. Hope this helps others decide on where to eat and or what not to order at this restaurant. read more

Had a great dining experience for dinner while in Jasper. We were really hungry and ordered the arancini, bread basket for two, wild mushroom ravioli, and the mezze rigatoni. Everything arrived hot and fresh in a timely manner (and thankfully was spaced perfectly and did not arrive all at the same time). All of the food was delicious, especially the wild mushroom ravioli which was incredible! I enjoyed the addition of toasted walnuts with this dish. It paired really well with the plump ravioli. I actually licked some of the sauce off the plate with my finger, lol! The braised beef short rib rigatoni was really tender. We finished off dinner with cappuccino and tiramisu. Perfect end to a wonderful dinner. Our server Kieran was very attentive. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great Italian restaurant in Jasper. read more

Started off unintentionally being an annoying patron with constantly changing our reservation due to group indecision but they were accommodating and flexible without giving us any attitude (which would have been perfectly understandable). Group ordered two pasta dishes, meatballs, soup which were all delicious. Did order a duck dish with nut sauce on the side due to allergies but that was mistakenly left on. They were very gracious about redoing the dish and apologetic and ended up taking it off the bill. Waiter continued to be good humored as we fought over the bill and overall was a great dinner/evening. Would definitely be back except to spare them. read more

My husband and I went here for dinner to celebrate his birthday. As out-of-Townes, we made the perfect decision to go here. The food was delicious and the waitress was attentive and very friendly. When she found out the occasion for our dinner she brought a beautifully presented chocolate cheesecake board with Happy Birthday written on it. The restaurant is on the first floor and has really nice views on the mountains at the windows. Otherwise it could be nicer for the price range. We were seated quickly and shared half the arancini. They really tasted like mushrooms but had a little much breading. I would still get them again. My girlfriend had the ravioli and I had the duck breast. Both meals were super tasty and nice, but it was literally just 10 ravioli. This makes it really expansive. The duck was cooked perfectly medium and the potatoes were good as well. Only the serving was really tiny as well. If you want to be satisfied after dinner you need to get pasta and a main dish (unbelievable for a European). So expect your dinner to run around $50. Came here for dinner for the first time today. The food is decent for Jasper but on the pricey side. We ordered the daily soup, wild mushroom ravioli, and surf and turf. Everything tasted quite fresh and flavourful, ravioli was especially good, although the surf and turf was a tad overcooked and the sauce quite salty. We were surprised to find that a basket of breads is of extra charge. The service was extremely slow. We waited about an hour for the entrees to arrive, and the restaurant was only about half full. During this time, I asked our waiter for the wifi password and he completely forgot about it. I tried a couple of times to flag him down but was unsuccessful, so I tried to get the ushers attention and I managed to establish eye contact, smile and wave so I think I've made myself quite clear. She went on to help another customer, and that was fine, but then she never came back. So eventually after more then twenty minutes I finally got our waiter's attention and got the password. After our food arrived, our waiter didn't come once to ask how it was and our water did not get filled. To top it off, the restaurant was having issues with the machine when we were about to pay the bill so the waiter had to write up our credit card info up manually. This is perfectly understandable situation but I wish the waiter could have explained to us how to fill out the the "bill" for tips, but he just told us where to sign and left. So then we scoured over the piece of paper for a section for tips which it did not have. When the waiter came back I inquired about how to give tips by credit card as we only had a few dollars between the two of the us. He said he will go ask and then never came back. So we just ended up leaving all the cash we had and left. All in all, our experience was quite negative because of the service even though food was decent. Don't let the ambience fool you. The food and service are great. I was hosting clients at the Jasper Park Lodge for skiing/meetings and we decided to go into Jasper for dinner for a change. I searched reviews and decided on ALBA. I will say we had second thoughts when we first went in - the entrance is a concrete staircase in a strip mall and the restaurant ambience needs some improvement - bright lighting, no table cloths, plastic flower on table, not a "traditional" Italian menu. HOWEVER - After being greeted by the owner/server (It is a husband and wife partnership), our feelings changed. My guests wanted a dish that was not on the menu and they quickly went to work creating it (chicken, mushroom, alfredo penne). My guests loved the dish. We also shared two appetizers: Meatballs (fantastic) & bruschetta, and both were excellent. I had the mushroom ravioli with chicken-add from the menu and it was also one of the best Italian dishes I have eaten. I struck up a conversation with the wife/owner/server and asked about their story - heartfelt inspiring story of the husband and wife who moved from Mumbai India to begin a life in Canada - from bus boy to restaurant owner in less than 10 years! (We also had the other owner/husband/cook come over and greet us). I told them to dim the lights and add tablecloths and they could add 10% to their prices...they laughed but said they want to keep pricing low/competitive to feed the locals and tourist clients. Very nice owners, EXCELLENT food in an average ambience. I highly recommend ALBA. Great owners - great food. read more
