This was super convenient! Just a short drive away is the renaissance shopping area which is also really nice. I think most people keep to themselves but I would say everyone is generally pretty friendly. I liked the pet stations that were around the property. Unfortunately, we were forced to look for another place to live due to an unprovoked homophobic attack by our downstairs neighbor. Police were called and she was arrested, but what followed was almost worse than the incident itself. The property management refused to do anything! We sent over the arrest record, video of the arrest, photos where she egged our apartment and nothing was done. The conduct of the tenant in the apartment below us was clearly in violation of the lease (unless Aspire is okay with homophobia?) but nothing was done. They didn't even have the decency to clean the egg off the side of our building as requested. I sent several emails and phone calls asking to escalate the situation to someone higher than the property manager as it seemed she was unwilling to do anything but after that, it was just silence. I realize the above scenario is incredibly specific, but if something like that went unaddressed, I wonder how many other complaints are falling on deaf ears. If not for the above, I think we might have stayed longer despite the high cost of living there. Not just in rent, but the absurd cost to do laundry and hope the dryer you put money into decides to work that day. The cost of utilities exploded in recent years without any explanation. The grounds used to be clean and well maintained, but in recent months was looking pretty bad with kids' toys and bikes strewn across the property. Hopefully they have gotten that under control but it seems unlikely. The worst part in our last months of living there was the lack of communication. Years ago if any major work or inspection was happening, we would get notified way in advance. Before we moved, we were getting notifications on our door less than 24 hours before the noted time. Good luck trying to talk to anyone! The office has posted hours but more likely than not, you'll see a closed sign. I think the neighborhood is great, but there are a lot of other options in the area and I recommend looking around before settling on Aspire. I really loved living here before the property management switch. I'm not sure I would recommend it now.

I also hadn't read the older reviews until now, and I've noticed some things that may have changed while other issues remain. DOGS: Some neighbors do not use leashes, and enforcement seems inconsistent. They also don't clean up after their dogs and there are also areas with many flies that it's an eye sore. I can't believe other people aren't phased by it. It makes me wonder how the inside of their homes look. I walk my small senior dog consistently. By Building C, someone opened their door and unleashed a large dog that immediately launched toward my dog. The same happened with two little dogs at Building B. By Building A, I've repeatedly seen a large dog loose. I honestly feel like some people own these huge dogs because they feel the need to have something "bigger than them." But what's the point if you can't control the dog? Does the dog own the person at that point? I honestly think so. You can't humanize an animal. In that same Building A area, I saw a cat torn in half. A coyote may have taken that cat for food, but a loose dog with an irresponsible owner leaves everyone else dealing with the consequences. I hope that cat is resting easy now. She was very sweet and friendly. She probably trusted the dog. CARS/SECURITY: Within my first couple of weeks, I experienced an attempted car break-in. My partner's car was also keyed, and I've noticed other vehicles with similar damage. I called the police and made a report. There are currently no cameras that I'm aware of unless residents have their own. Management told us they're looking into getting cameras next year, and I hope that's true. I think cameras would keep most people in line and help hold the bad seeds accountable. Police presence has also become more noticeable, thankfully, and I hope it continues. PARKING: Each unit gets one assigned parking space. You can request a temporary pass for 3-4 days or get on a waitlist if additional parking is unavailable. You have to stay on top of it. I've seen people park down the street or at Family Dollar just to avoid getting towed. HOMELESSNESS/DUMPING: Unhoused people frequently gather near the "closed" gate. The mess left behind can become an issue. I still see it to this day. If you're at your lowest, don't make the environment around you suffer too. Neighbors also dump things in common areas. A bed frame was left on the grass with exposed wires and metal, and I saw a child playing near it. If you care about your kids, reconsider your stay. FALSE PROMISES: You may be told something will be removed, fixed, or handled, only to see the same problem the next day. HOWEVER, I want to be fair: most of my complaints have actually been taken seriously and into account. That has been helpful. ROACHES: Yes, there are roaches. Big and small. No matter how clean you are, they seem to come back. Pest control came out, and that same day I saw a tiny roach crawling out of the floor. NEIGHBORS: Some are extremely inconsiderate. On my first day, three police cars were outside the leasing office dealing with a domestic disturbance. I've also had to call the police twice and courtesy patrol once because of neighbors banging on walls, hooting and hollering. It honestly sounded like they were on a bad drug trip. I feel bad that management has to deal with adult babies. For some people, this really is as good as it's going to get, and it shows. MAINTENANCE: My garbage disposal leaked the first time I used the sink. I eventually found the problem myself: the rubber piece was upside down. Maintenance does get things done when you ask. ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN: I also experienced my first apartment break-in attempt. A homeless woman came to my door, tried opening it, then knocked like she owned the place. I immediately called the police. They did their due diligence, and thankfully I haven't seen her since. THE GOOD: Honestly, I think this is a good place for someone getting their first apartment, especially if you're just starting out. Management was communicative and helpful throughout my move-in process. I really want to thank Raymond for his hard work and due diligence. It makes me feel better knowing management is actually trying to make this area better. That's a challenge in itself, but they are tackling it and it's not an easy battle. The issue here isn't management as much as I originally thought. A large part of it is the neighbors who refuse to follow the rules and regulations placed upon them. Some people genuinely believe they are bigger than the program when they really aren't. I appreciate management for not ignoring complaints. I hope my neighbors read this because they deserve to be told the truth about their behavior and how others view them. Everyone needs a reality check.

Management changes monthly and nothing gets done. They will show you a model apartment in the front of the property so you think that the apartment that you'll be renting is nice too. Don't fall for it. I will be reporting this place to the city for code violations. Drug addicts, trash pickers, and gang members have infested this place as much as the roaches. There are no security cameras and a ton of crime (the apartment next to mine was shot up in the middle of the day by gang members.) Funny that they put park benches and dog crap bag holders (which nobody uses btw, so there's big piles of dog s*** to step in all over) though all around the property like that's going to make it look nice. I came from a place that did not have an in-unit washer and dryer, so having a washer and dryer was…read morea true blessing. It was actually what drew my family in. A concern that I had was the stairs' railings that were wide. Also, the top of the stairs to the bottom had a railing short enough for a determined child to jump from. I worried that my children would fall and get seriously hurt. We had to buy a board to place over the gaps, as my toddler liked to dangle her legs through them. The last night we spent there, our toddler actually sat by the railing and dangled her legs through. It actually reinforced to us how important that board had been. Not anyone's fault but ours though. We didn't anticipate that this would be a problem. My major issue with this place was an infestation we had, and how the staff handled it. From implying that we were not being sanitary, and providing a treatment that was not helpful especially because we had to leave our house for 3+ hours for the treatment to penetrate, and even then, the issue was not resolved. Another issue is the trash spot being on the same line as the homes. The trash was basically your next door neighbor. Additionally, the trash area doesn't seem big enough to accommodate the residents' trash. Most times, the place would be overflowing with trash. This just created a breeding ground for bugs- which there are. The problem with certain bugs is that they are resilient, and you would essentially need to break down the floor boards to get rid of them. So, back to my point: no amount of treatment will work if they don't get to the source. It will be a costly venture for sure. My tip: when you get there, don't get too excited, and once you see even one bug, call them and tell them! Keep a record of your conversations. If you let enough time pass by, you will see more, and by then, you've lived there long enough that they will flip it on you and say you caused the issue. No amount of paint overs will solve this. My family and I could have enjoyed this place really. But the bug issues made it hard to continue to live in.

My car was broken into while our gate was open, the landlord/manager showed no care or concern on our matter. Safety is an issue here but also the lack of concern they display is enough to drive anyone out. We've had crickets in our light fixtures and they didn't come get the crickets out til there was one carcass left. Same with the other reviews this place also has a big roach problem. This is an excellent starter apartment. One of the top features is safety because it is a gated…read morecomplex. Every now and then, the popsicle man manages to get in, and the one homeless (typically harmless) man manages to get in, but that is about it. I lived there for two years, and while it was quite brief, there were no major break-ins or burglaries. The parking is a joy. You can almost guarantee you will have more than enough parking spots left, especially for people who work at night. If you are lucky, you get shaded parking, which is helpful during the scorching summer. There is a cool playground at the heart of the complex, which is great for wearing your little ones out. The location to places makes this place very convenient. Superior Grocers is barely a five-minute drive (or a fifteen-minute walk.), there is a church that is 7 minutes away. One major issue I had was the new toilets, which had very low pressure when flushed. My tip: buy a bucket because you may need one for the first big flush. When you flush the first time, don't panic if it feels like it won't flush. Listen for the toilet tank fill-up, and then judge how much waste material you have liberated to know whether it's a bucket flush or regular flush. The lack of in-unit laundry ultimately made it increasingly uncomfortable and so, we moved. Other than that, this is generally a great place to live.
