It was a wonderful surprise to see they have taken over the old Hi-Top coffee location. I popped in after yoga class for a Mocha, scone and chocolate chip cookie... All were delicious! The Alchemist has been buzzing in my circle of friends all week. I first heard it mentioned on Wednesday. Today, Saturday, my wife is in need of a break, plus it's cold and she hasn't had coffee yet. Enter my suggestion to go to Alchemist. So we show up about 10:45, and it's kind of busy. The inside isn't that big, but it's big enough for the moment. Just don't show up with a group larger than 4 because you most likely won't be able to sit together. Anyway, the 9 of us show up and order and divide into a kids table and adults table. I order a lavender iced latte that they say is their most popular drink(and that I found on Yelp), 3 kids (it's not on the menu) hot chocolates, and a caramel latte. I suggested my wife get a Chai tea because that's her thing, but thankfully she didn't. My buddy got it and let me try. He said it was spicier than Starbucks, which me and my wife both don't like. Personally, I don't think it was that spicy, but it did taste diluted, so maybe that's why. My latte was ok. Nothing special in my opinion. My wife even said about her caramel latte that it was just ok too. She likes sweet tasting drinks and it seems that hers wasn't. What did stand out to me was the little snack my buddy let me try. A peanut butter toast thing he ordered. It had the aforementioned peanut butter, but also grains and nuts like sunflower seeds that you, or at least I, don't normally find on my toast. It was that little something different that I look for in a restaurant. Now, being called Alchemist, I was looking for some chemistry. I did spot some flask, chemistry flask, not the hard liquor holding type lol, but never got to see them in use. They could be purely decoration, but I'll find out for sure next visit, assuming I have one. I did mention that Alchemist has been buzzing amongst my circle of friends. Well, by the time we left, at least 17 of us had shown up in the hour or so that we were there. Good time for us, no doubt. I truly hope that you have a good time if you visit. We have been wanting to come in for a while. We stopped by noon. There were plenty of seats available. We ordered two coffees. One was an expresso and one was a chai coffee, something like that. I originally wanted chai, but the barista recommended something i didn't see in the menu. Which was delicious. We also ordered two sides of toast. Peanut butter and an avocado toast. I came in with a friend and had an Americano. I asked for a Guatemala coffee which they had with a blend that sounded good for me. It was a very good cup of coffee and recommend this place if you like to taste your coffee rather than your cream or sugar! The baristas answered my many questions about their coffees. There are coffee reading materials they keep on hand for customers. My friend's cappuccino was delicious and one of the best she's had. I will be back to try a flight! read more

I was so happy to find out that Alchemist took over the old High Top coffee shop. Tower is such an awesome community, and having a great coffee shop that I can walk to is very important to me. The shop was clean with plenty of seating, the coffee was delicious and not too sweet, just like I like it, and the batista were friendly. The menue is small but full of classic coffee drinks, not all the fluffy stuff that you see at some shops, and they do have a few bakery items to snack on. They were only open about a week when I popped in so the options may expand but I was very happy with their options. I love a good espresso, cappuccino, or a simple latte. I will definitely walk back on one of the next days the weather is cooperating. read more

Basically everything about this business is great. The drinks are good, there's options, snacks are usually available, the location and decor and nice and make for a relaxing environment. Where they fall short is service, although they're friendly at the counter, they do not listen or follow all requests and will make excuses. We asked for our order to be "for here" three times while ordering and when we noticed our drinks being prepared, they were still in paper cups. In order to try and prevent those from being used and wasted, I went to the pick-up counter and asked them to be made in mugs because they were "for here." To which they replied, "unfortunately, we can't do that." I asked why and they said, "our dish washer is broken." Although this excuse was given, there were several other customers with plates, mugs, and small espresso cups. I'm not sure what the issues was or if their excuse was valid, but I was warned by other friends that they were rude at times so I guess I can kind of see how. When walking away from the counter, my partner saw the confusion in my face, and upon asking what was going on, the person behind the counter low key threatened me as if I was bad mouthing her saying, "Come and talk to me over here!" Super childish- made me chuckle. However, This business is fairly affordable in comparison to other coffee shops near by. read more

I absolutely love this place. Pastries are always outstanding, their avocado toast is delicious and their coffee? Phenomenal. They have a goal and they exceed it every single time. Their attention to detail in every single aspect has blown my mind. I wish the scones were a little more sweeter (personal preference), but the texture is amazing! Shout out to the in-house baker who makes most if not all of the pastries. I really enjoyed the cafe that was here before, but it definitely leveled up in terms of service and ambiance. I am happy that there is a new cafe in the neighbourhood. I was really upset when the Hi Top closed. It was a great hang out but it seems that Alchemist will be a good replacement. Their coffee is just as good and the staff as friendly. The owner seems very friendly as well. They should work a little on their pastry selection as there is just one kind of cookie and scones but otherwise I have no complaints.There hasn't been much change in the cafe itself.. it is still cosy and a nice place to chat with a friend or read a book. I love the whole aesthetic of this coffee shop. It is warm and inviting and I always feel great going in. I like their vanilla iced lattes but I recently had a matcha latte that was not the ideal color of green one would expect from a matcha latte. The matcha looked like what I would expect matcha that is rather old or has been exposed to sunlight or too much oxygen would look like. It tasted weird and as someone that regularly drinks matcha lattes at home and whisks it herself, this particular matcha latte was a bit disappointing. I was served my matcha latte in a glass cup and I could visibly see the clumps of matcha stuck to the glass or just floating around my latte, indicating it wasn't properly whisked with a chasen in a chawan. It even tasted a bit powdery. I did ask if it could be remade and the barista kindly obliged but my remade drink was basically just like the last one. I would definitely recommend this cafe for their coffee, but definitely not for their matcha. The service overall was great, I did ask what kind of matcha they use before ordering and all they told me was that it was from Japan, which doesn't really give me a clear indication, considering most, if not all, matcha is from Japan. read more

I usually come here every morning before going to work. Today I noticed they have a new girl. I ordered a 16oz coffee and she claimed she only charged me for a 12 oz after making my coffee. I was charged $7.14 for a "12oz." I'm like ok fine, I can pay for the difference. She then charged me an additional $1.63 which I don't remember paying $8.77 for a 16 oz! I checked my debit statement to see what I usually pay and it was $7.68. But I didn't say anything, I was rushing as I needed to get to work. After paying, I saw that she poured the 12oz coffee into a 16 oz and added more milk!!! That was it. So I paid an additional $1.63 for milk!? I tasted the coffee in my car and it was so damn sweet I can't even drink it. It's going to the trash. Wasted nearly $9 just to ruined my day. She needs to be trained more. I will never come back here again. It's people like this that makes people stop coming. Just carefully measure the recipe as it's supposed to be. It's not that hard. read more

I really like this place it's a nice new little gem. when I first tried it I wasn't to fond of it because I didn't know what to try, so I chose something random, but I didn't let that stop me from giving it another try so when I decided to go back and take me time I choose something good and it was a amazing and I fell in love, on top of the there is this really nice young lady that always greets people when they come in. so glad I have this place another chance and will be getting my coffee here from now on. read more
