Fantastic spot. Amazon service up front, in the restaurant and on the dock. The epitome of a Northwest Resort. Each year there is something new to enjoy. My only disappointment this year (and the reason it's 4 stars instead of 5) was the Trail to Table that's offered on Thursdays, 2-4. We called ahead to confirm it was happening, came two hours early just for this experience , and it ended up not happening. Upon arrival we were told they were short staffed but that it will be starting at 3, with the "trail" portion omitted. We waited around (not much else you can do in an hour in Union), and 3pm came and went with nothing. Each time after 3pm that we asked, they kept saying "someone is coming." We finally moved on at 3:55.... I get that these things happen, but I would rather they just say it's not happening today than waste two hours of my time waiting around for it. My bestie and I stayed at Alderbrook for two nights and three days. Reservations were easy to make online. Rates for the Garden View Guest Room were about $235 a night. Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. Complimentary valet parking is offered upon arrival. Discover is an accepted form of payment. There are a few charging stations on-site to charge electric cars. Upon our arrival (Friday) we were offered a complimentary glass of bubbly Rose wine. Nice touch. Our room had a fully stocked mini-fridge, a flat screen TV with access to Netflix (connection required) and full-sized shampoo/conditioner/body wash/lotion. Room service is available if desired. Alderbrook arranged my bestie with a birthday card and two large complimentary chocolate chips cookies in our room. Nice job on making my bestie feel special. Alderbrook offers a variety of activities for their guests: hiking (passes not required), golfing, water sport rentals ($20-$25 per hour), swimming/hot tubbing, spa services, dining, free shuttle to the Union Market and peaceful stunning views. The grounds are immaculate. The staff superb. Overall, we both had a fantastic stay and left refreshed and pampered. I look forward to returning again in the future. read more

Such amazing food! To start they brought out some bomb focaccia bread. Next we ordered some small plates, we got the Brussels sprouts and prawns, which didn't disappoint! I got the cauliflowers steak- and it was so good! As a vegetarian I was happy with my options (not a bunch but the ones they had were amazing!) my party also got the halibut, the lemon risotto (very cheesey) and the meatball marinara. We were all happy and full upon leaving! The cocktails were good as well! My only notes are to make a reservation if you can to get the best seats and not to eat too much bread before your food lol! Nice resort close to hiking trails and the Hood Canal. They have their own pool, which you can sign up for, and a restaurant on the premises which serves dine in or take out. There are some tables set up for outdoor take out dining and they have 2 fire pits. Restaurant reservations are best made in advance as they get booked pretty quickly once you are there. The food was decent and they asked you to wear a mask if the servers/waitresses are close. Support staff tip of 20% is added and if you want, you can give an additional tip. The property is beautiful and the setting is fantastic. read more

A beautiful weekend getaway spot. It's about 2 hours out from Seattle and is a pet friendly resort. They have a golf course right across their resort and it adds to the overall stay experience. There is also a spa(which is currently under renovation) but offers almost all services. I got the Swedish massage done and it was one of the best I've experienced so far. Ask for Paula! The pet friendly rooms are on the lowest floor and have direct access to the courtyard which is super convenient. There was a pet bed and two bowls ready for my dog which was super cute gesture. There is plenty of outdoor seating, a restaurant and a cafe onsite. The best part of the property is a boardwalk out to Spencer Lake. Hood canal is super close as well. However, the only thing that was disappointing were the food options. There are very few options for vegans/vegetarians in that huge menu of theirs. Doesn't feel great to check in to a place after a long day and not have enough food options to choose from. Also, I wouldn't want to eat just a salad when I'm on vacation, would I :)? Somehow I screwed up the reservation I made online for a 2 night stay to celebrate anniversary When we arrived at desk they gently let us know we had not reserved a room and of course that meant our dinner reservation had not processed either. I thought I was going to pass out. As I knew they were fully booked. Jon spun around and like magic produced a just beautiful view room and called us later to let us know he had us booked for dinner at 6. Magic! Tucked away in the small town of Union, this rustic resort has all of the amenities of a high end city spa and resort. Came out for a conference and was impressed with the overall lodge feel this place has. Lots of woodwork adorns the interior. This place is right on the water on Hood Canal. I opted for a corner king room. Amazing sweeping views from the balcony. I had a creek right next to my room! The interior courtyard has water fountains which drown out any noises that might be outside. The room was very comfortable with a very soft and wonderful bed. This place screams, "drink some wine and relax". That may also be the honor bar in the room with a bottle of wine right in front. Lots of activities available if you want. Rentals of equipment and excursions too. I will come back and spend more time hiking. read more

We visited Alderbrook as a local weekend getaway in Oct. 2018. The grounds are beautiful and it is truly a weekend retreat! Check in was quick and easy. We received a map of the property which also included some hiking trails nearby! Once our group dropped off our bags, we bee-lined to the dock to check out the water and take some great sunset photos. It's too bad it was late in the season, we would have like to do some kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. The water was very clear, with tons of oyster shells lining the bottom. After our mini photo session we took the seats by the waterfront lawn and enjoyed the fire pit. Of course, we enjoyed some adult beverages from the bar as the sun went down. It was really tranquil and calming. We enjoyed some apps at the bar and proceeded to have dinner at the restaurant. Pro-tip: definitely make reservations, even when you think it's slow season, this is a popular restaurant! It was a lovely stay at Alderbrook, now that I've been here I think my next visit will need to include some spa time... read more

The company I work for comes here every other year for a retreat. It was chilly but we clear when we stayed March 5-6, the mountains were so clear. Their banquet department does a wonderful job every time. From breakfast, bagged lunches to grab and go, dinner to break snacks. There is always plenty of water in each of the meeting rooms a long with mints. The beds are comfortable and rooms are great. I've stayed in both the main building and the cottages. The main building I would say is newer, but it's nice to have the privacy of a cottage with it's little kitchenette we don't use it but it's nice to have the option. My roommate and I wanted a particular cottage cause it's close to the main building and is right on the water. We always stay in the winter probably cause it's their slow time and easier to book that many rooms at one time. We usually have two to three hours the first day of free time for the spa, golf, hiking, kayaking or just hanging out. They have a couple of great fire pits that many of the group hung out at. You have to order at least one of their bloody Mary's so yummy with a prawn hanging on the edge. read more

We stayed here for the first time this weekend and it was a truly beautiful setting and nice to get away! They take every precaution necessary with covid which is understandable and appreciated- but it does make it difficult to fully experience Alderbrook at its best it seems. - There's a limited menu and there weren't any restaurant reservations left by the time we arrived. -You must sign up for a pool time and for one hour at a time. You can go a couple of times during the day to the pool but only 30 people are allowed at one time in the pool area and you must sign up. - They have these amazing yurts and outdoor tables that seem perfect for dining but they weren't allowing them to be used or reserved- seemed like a lot of wasted space. -There's limited seating outside which was a bit odd - we would have loved to sit out by one of the fires but there was no room left- they were all being used. - the beds were the worst hotel beds we have ever slept in and that's saying a lot. This may be the one thing that keeps us from coming back. - masks must be worn at all times- inside and OUTSIDE. If we go back, it will probably be in the summer time and hopefully when restrictions have lifted a bit. Summers may be a better time to experience all that Alderbrook has to offer and the restaurant- when we can actually go! read more

Visited Alderbrook for a late lunch. Ordered a Grilled Chicken Sandwich on Ciabatta. It was very good, seasoned well and cooked just right. We also had an order of Fish & Chips with a salad. Again the fish was great. The salad was an overstuffed bowl of a spring mix and fresh chopped veggies on top. Very fresh and crispy. Now the problem!! Almost impossible to eat a salad gracefully when the bowl so stuffed. They could have served on a plate. Way better idea. We were not impressed with the slow service and weren't asked once if we were ok. If you're paying this price, add better service. read more

Last minute getaway to a place we have passed several times over the past 25 yrs. It was wonderful. We had room 418 looking over the courtyard and directly above the waterfall. Amazing. We enjoyed the pool, steam room and sauna. Walked along the waterfront and a very good dinner was had at the bar overlooking the water. The only disappointing part is that the "spa" portion has a six month wait. Otherwise it's an amazing tranquil spot of heaven on hood canal. We will be back read more

Let me preface this by saying that my daughter and I look forward to going to Alderbrook for months sometimes years. We save up and live in luxury for a couple days. She is a mother of a three year old and one year old twins. She really needed this break. She looks young for her age, as a result, people tend to talk down to her and treat her poorly. Unfortunately, our last trip to Alderbrook was no exception. At the restaurant, our server put her napkin in her lap and accidentally touched her breast. She was startled, but didn't say anything. He then told her about the nonalcoholic drinks they offered. She interjected with, I'm 25. He then looked her up and down and said that she was fine as wine. This made her very uncomfortable. Somebody dropped off our food. He came by once to ask us how it was. Over a half an hour went by, and we had not seen him at all. We had to track down someone to bring us boxes (my daughter didn't eat any of her meal). He never came by to offer dessert or after dinner drinks. He never even came with the bill. I stood in the lobby for 15 minutes before I finally asked the bartender if they could get me my check. He reluctantly helped me find my server. When I finally did find him he acted like nothing was wrong. I said that it had been a really long time since I'd seen him so we just left the table. The table had actually been cleared and reset. He said well I'm sorry I didn't wear my roller skates today (no true apology). He ran my card and gave me the receipt to sign and add a tip. There is already a 20% gratuity added to every check. This is one time I would definitely have not tipped 20% (I traditionally tip more). The food was delicious. I would have preferred to tip the kitchen only. Then, later that night we went for a swim. The front desk lady came in and told us the pool was closing. We quickly put our clothes on and went to the lobby. We waited in the lobby approximately 20 minutes while she closed the pool. When she got back my daughter asked her for a s'mores kit. We have always gotten one from the night person. We like to end our day by roasting marshmallows by the beach while reconnecting. This time she said we couldn't have one because they were kept at the barista station about ten feet away. My daughter asked her if she could please get her one (it is our tradition when we stay there). My daughter said it's just right over there with a smile. the lady sarcastically said yes, it's right over there. She saw the look of disappointment on my daughter's face but did not apologize or get one for her. After that, My daughter just wanted to go right to bed. Our trip was short this year so there was no time to redeem this experience. This was heartbreaking for her and myself to see her so upset. The thing that sets Alderbrook apart from the rest are it's people. There are beautiful destinations closer to home but, this place has always been worth the extra travel. We both absolutely love your resort. My daughter even follows Alder and Brook on social media. I would like a do over if possible. I'd hate for this truly disappointing experience to be the last time we stay with you. read more

The grounds are beautiful. We had reservations on a Thursday for our 15th anniversary. My husband preordered a charcuterie plate to be delivered to our room. The check-in process was busy, long and it appeared that they were quite understaffed. (In fact, we overheard someone say that they were short staffed.) That was all fine because we explored the nearby trails. We had a courtyard room with a short walk to the pool, the beach and the restaurant. Our room wasn't the cleanest room. Many of the surfaces were dirty and the blinds were destroyed on the courtyard door, which I assume was from a dog. The smell wasn't great but we could deal with that. The charcuterie plate that my husband ordered wasn't in the room as promised and he was going to dismiss it altogether but all of a sudden our door opens, no knock. Just walked in. The poor girl was startled that I was standing there. Luckily, we still had clothes on. We had a nice time overall. read more

The wife surprise me with a quick get-away and booked us a room and they put us in the 3rd floor in room 319 The room is located next to stairwell and the noise coming from the stairs in unbearable. The room was kind of clean but there is MOLD in the shower tile and grout making this a motel level cleanliness not acceptable for the price. The restaurant accommodations were ok'd, the food was good and tasty but slow service from the kitchen. The grounds were ok but ones again disappointed with cleanliness and the elevator is extremely slow forcing patrons to use the stairs next to our room. I know Alderbrook can do better and hope If we go back, it will probably be in the summer time and hopefully things be better and cleanliness is a priority for Alderbrook. read more

This review is for a stay during the last winter season. My husband and I stayed in one of the pet friendly 2-bedroom cottages for 3 nights. Making our reservation was fairly easy and the agent who assisted was wonderful. We arrived and checked in on a slow afternoon. The agent who checked us in was not very welcoming. I felt hurried and dismissed. No worries, we just wanted to get in our cottage on a rainy day. The cottage was nice, clean and had everything we needed. We were disappointed to learn only one restaurant was open. We had dinner brought to our cottage. Dinner was good. We also picked up some sandwiches and snacks at The Drinkery, and shopped at the gift shop. We went outside the resort looking for places to eat and only one restaurant was open - 2 Margaritas (the one other restaurant in the area had closed permanently). We were hoping there would be indoor activities during the slower season, but there was absolutely nothing to do. I know this resort must be amazingly busy during the summer months with water activities, but rates are not much lower during the off season. What disappointed us the most was the cold reception and unfriendliness of the staff during our entire stay. Only the housekeeping staff were nice. Oh, the highlight of our stay? Beautiful (overpriced) location but their consideration for younger guests is nil. They have a crabby and dangerous cat who bites adults and children alike but the real hazard is to children who don't always understand that they can't reach out to a fluffy cat. I've had cats all my life but would never let an aggressive one around children. In one day, the cat drew blood on two different children. When the managers were asked to take the cat out of the lobby, their answer was no. My answer to that? Someone is going to sue you and would likely win. Frankly, I'd like to see it happen. read more

There are a couple of amazing employees but sadly most are dedicated to enforcing policies and not providing experiences that would bring repeat and meaningful business opportunities. I was brought to the property by pricey tv ads and had a mediocre service experience last year but the mediocre has sadly turned abysmal this year from inattentive staff to hour long boat cruises that clocked in at 35 minutes we will not be back in 2024 and don't recommend it to others. Second time visiting Alderbrook Resort. Beautiful property. We like the two bedroom cottage option as it allows our family of four to spread out. Great hiking trails on the property with a fun/free geo-caching experience. The on-site restaurant is fantastic as well. It's obviously not going to be cheap, but the service and food quality is worth it. I can attest to the wi-fi being sufficient for Zoom calls so working remotely from the resort is possible. Covid-19 precautions are taken seriously by the staff and enforced. Wear your mask! read more

We stayed here June 25-28 to go shrimping in the Hood Canal with friends and family. Relax, Mason County was in phase 3 of COVID-19 reopening plan. Groups of under 50 people were allowed. We motored our boat from Tacoma to the resort - a 5 hour ride. After the long boat ride we were greeted by Nick and Russell who helped us dock into our slip. These gentlemen were true professionals and their customer service is top notch. Super accommodating our entire stay on the docks. We were able to use all the amenities the resort had to offer while using our boat for our lodging. Danny, the front desk manager, and his staff were amazing. I needed something to be picked up at the pharmacy - having arrived by boat we had no car. Even though the hotel had suspended their shuttle service, Danny offered to drive my wife to the pharmacy. That cemented it for me. Alderbrook and its staff exemplifies excellent customer service. We plan to make this place at least an annual trip maybe 2 times a year. This place is that good. This place is that awesome. I could continue with the superlatives but you need to experience it for yourself! Treat yourself to a wonderful weekend away. Hurry book it! read more

This was our first time coming to Alderbrook. We stayed at the marina. This is my new favorite get away! The young man that ran the dock was fantastic! He was courteous, helpful and had such a positive attitude. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about the resort. He really hustled to make sure everyone was taken care of and that we all had a good time. Give that guy a raise and make him the dockmaster. He's ready! The resort itself was gorgeous! The food and service at the restaurant were top notch. So many nooks and crannies to hang out and relax in - fire pits, waterfalls, birds chirping, gorgeous, well-manicured landscaping, glistening waterfront lounging, snow capped mountains, stunning sunsets. A huge disappointment. I took my parents to lunch here for Father's Day. We've been many times before and always had a wonderful experience. The view cannot be beat on a clear summer day. The food has always been great in the past as well, but not today, not at all. First, we were dining outside. The outdoor menu is slightly more limited which is understandable, but the inside is closed from 2-3 so it was the only option. Our waters came in disposable plastic cups and the water had a strong flavor of bourbon whiskey. I'm not sure how this could occur other than pouring water from the same tap as booze which I've never heard of. I asked for lemon for my water but even that didn't cover it up. (Not a fan of whiskey) Then my father and I ordered cocktails. Neither of us cared for our cocktails which just didn't taste good but we aren't complainers so we didn't say anything. I ordered some honey cornbread for the table as an appetizer. If you like cornbread, don't order this flavorless loaf of corn starch. FLAVORLESS. We also ordered an appetizer of chips with a salmon dip. That was decent. My mother and I both ordered fish and chips. The fish was ok and the fries were really good but the portions were minuscule. My friend ordered the Po' Boy sandwich which he didn't realize was a la cart. It was not enough for meal and he said the sandwich we just "ok". My dad ordered the fish tacos, which the waitress said was her "personal favorite". On the menu they were described as having many garnishes including avocado and more. He received 2 plain pieces of fish on dry corn tortillas that weren't even warmed with none of the described garnishments. Again, it was not meal sized for any adult. He said they were awful. In the end our bill came to $135. For this food? The portions and quality didn't come close to being worth it. I'd have rather gone to McDonalds and eaten at the park down the street and we'd have had the same view. We likely won't return after years of prior visits. read more

We arrived a bit early for check in and were greeted by Shandale. She informed us the room we booked online happened to be above an electrical room and a bit of noise may be heard. She graciously offered to upgrade our room at no extra charge. Early check in was not an issue. Shandale's customer service was impressive and appreciated. The room was beautiful and had an amazing view of the water. We were at the resort for happy hour, dinner and breakfast. Everything about the food was amazing! My recent stay at the resort for the most part is great. The people work there are always nice and polite. The room is clean. The restaurant is a double disappointment. First, the menu no longer has the Dungeness crab egg Benedict. Something I was looking forward to order again. Instead, the menu only have the high price but low cost seafood. I ended up ordered the Fish and Chips which is supposed to be the specialty there. We ordered to go and brought back to the room. Everything looks decent at first. Until I took a bite of the fish, and I noticed the batter was uncooked. Which also tells me that the fish is uncooked. The fish was fried pretty greasy. I didn't feel well all night long. Needless to say I stop going back to the in-house restaurant. I found much better food around the corner Union Square Deli has better food and half the price. Plus they don't charge a mandatory 18%-20% fee. I don't mind paying the money and extra fee understanding the business is struggle. But seems like the quality of the food has been sacrificed also. This is the quintessential Washington resort experience. The scenery around the resort is beautiful and creates an instant sense of relaxation as you arrive. Even the drive up is a nice drive along the 101. The property is beautiful and cozy. Rooms are clean and simple like you'd expect at a resort. In between the rooms is a charming courtyard that has a zen like charm to it. On property they have a shop with both souvenirs and a few essentials. My favorite touch was the cat that roams the property. I enjoyed seeing it sleeping in the gift shop. The restaurant on site is fantastic and we enjoyed two awesome meals there during our stay. Definitely a highlight of the property. The best part of Alderbook is actually the backyard. We loved walking the docks and the yard to view the scenery around us. You just can't beat it. This is a great spot for locals to relax or for visitors from other areas to see what Washington is really about. read more

Spa = 4 stars Resort = 3 stars The Spa: Average resort spa with lockers, showers, and relaxation room. I was happy to see quality products available for use in the dressing rooms. Compared to other resort spas I have been to, they were on the higher end in terms of cleanliness, however, the relaxation room was lacking in snacks (typically fruit/nut mixes and trail mix). The relaxation massage my husband received was from a woman who, "seemed like she wasn't trained to give a massage, like if I gave a massage [...] but the scalp massage was great." The massage I received had good pressure but her nails were long and I felt her scratching me about half a dozen times. The Resort: Common areas are too few/too small for resort of this size. It's really less of a resort and more of a hotel; the website oversells it. The grassy courtyard for dog-friendly rooms was soggy, a little slippery, and on the verge of becoming muddy. The pool/jacuzzi was in a greenhouse that desperately needed cleaning (see posted photo). 2 out of 4 times I went to the front desk, there was only one person working and a wait to be helped; the service from the front desk was below expectations for a resort. Given that Alderbrook is in Washington state, it's surprising the outdoor fire pits aren't under any cover, rendering them useless in the rain. The pillows in the room were terrible--two were small, really soft, and collapsed entirely under weight as though they were filled with air, and two were oddly dense, like they were filled with sand. Housekeeping was quick and did a great job! One hotel staff provided excellent customer service in response to our "inexcusable" experience at Christmas brunch for which I am grateful and bumped the resort-rating up from 2 to 3-stars. read more

Great weekend retreat for Valentine's Day. Their spectacular views are clearly the best part. The indoor pool and hot tub are unique and large enough to accomodate a lot of people. The restaurant had decent food and drinks - I recommend going to the lounge for happy hour. And the grounds are beautiful to walk around. Overall a great expierence. read more
