My 5 star rating might be a bit dramatic but hey, I can afford life because of this company! I get my most basic groceries from Aldi. Everything is cheap down to the frozen bags of Chilean Sea Bass. There aren't many filets in the bag but when you cook up that sea bass and take your first bite you won't be disappointed. Go to Dominick's across the way and pay 3 times as much for the sea bass. I try to stay away from their veggies, although, I've never had trouble with the mushrooms. They carry liquid egg whites (YESS!!), soy milk (YESS!!), cheap cheap wine (YESSSSS!!) and once in awhile they have fresh baby mozzerella. This place is great for a bargain and the same name brand products that you find in most grocery stores are also at Aldi, they just change their label and use a generic name. So if you're a brand snob probably not going to Aldi would be wise. If you're looking to save some extra cash so you can go out on the weekends then GO TO ALDI! read more

This isn't my first choice Aldi in the city. It's close so I'll go there occasionally, but there are better ones. The line is always long here and they don't seem to stock they're cheeses as well as the one on Milwaukee or even the one on Cermack. I won't buy any meats or anything that was made in Egypt. However, bananas, bread, green peppers, tomatoes are so cheep; i stop in just for that. Also the workers are so kind and friendly. It's a fact,,, you pay your people well ,,, your service is always good. read more

My second-favorite Aldi in town, the first being Montrose and Western, though it's very close. This is your standard Aldi-with-booze, though there is one really nice cashier lady here that sets this place a bit apart from other Aldis--that, and it's by other grocery stores for those couple items you have to pay more for. uh oh, I think i'm starting to get hooked on Aldi. This location promises me a perfect balance. Stop in at aldi, get all the cheap stuff I don't really care if it's name brand, ie; graham crackers, marshmallows, dark chocolate bars (yes, i was making smores, could you tell?). After I've filled up my cart with basement bargain goodies I can head on over to the Dominicks for the rest of my grocery shopping. Now I know this is a chain and I generally am not for chains BUT aldi is the place to go if you're on a budget, or even if you're not. I never really understand why people drop so much money on basic stock items at Jewel and Dominick's when Aldi is SO much cheaper for basically the same products. I come out of Aldi spending one fourth of the money I would spend on the same items at Jewel or other big stores. I kind of love this Aldi, the people are super nice, the produce seems better than other Aldi's, I can lazily park under it and not to mention the first few times I went they gave out their huge totes for free- which means I can carry my laundry and / or groceries with ease...it's my crush, Aldi, I really do romance it at least 1 time weekly, and I know there is such a huge stigma on this company, but people it's owned by trader joe's, really...you know what I won't bother, less people shopping there means more stuff for me to romance...as I've completely undergone an entire dietary change and Aldi has made becoming thin doable on a budget...really doable and not because I'm skipping meals. read more

Aldi is my new favorite place to grocery shop! If you're looking for organic snacks and produce, you'll have to make another stop, but for everything else it is great!! Perhaps, being originally from Southern California, I'm oblivious to the stigma that is surrounded by the Mid-West perception of Aldi, but I L-O-V-E ALDI!! awesome options and prices that even wal-mart can't beat. Things I like about Aldi: 1) The chocolate. The choceour (sp?) brand is made in Germany/Austria. It's fabulous creamy top-quality chocolate, way waaaay better than the American stuff, and a ginormous bar costs like $1.50. 2) The cashiers sit down. I used to be a cashier, and I know how uncomfortable & tiring it is to have to stand up for 8 hours straight. I have never understood why most grocery stores expect that of their cashiers. It's not like you're going to fall asleep just because you're sitting down. 3) You are expected to bring your own bags. Given that it supposedly takes a plastic bag 20,000 years to biodegrade, this only makes sense. In Europe, grocery stores make you pay for bags, so people re-use them and bring their own. This is how it should be. Things I don't like about Aldi: 1) Produce is sometimes not fresh. 3) Meat is not the best--no lean ground beef, for example. I usually combine Aldi with a trip to the Dominick's right next door. read more

A small, but good Aldi to pick up the bare basics. They also have refrigerated drinks for people on the go. The location is easy to get to, and I love how it's underneath it's brother store Trader Joe's. If you shop like my friends and I do, it's definitely a good 'two birds, one stone' stop. Oh my goodness! Aldi has always been fabulous for staples (canned goods, milk plastic bags), but it has expanded exponentially in the last year or so. Now they have really good fresh meat, and even some soy and pro-biotic products. Can't beat the prices, either. I do as much of my grocery shopping as possible there - and this location marks down seasonal things the most for quick sale. read more

Ah, Aldi. If you're interested in off-brand goods at a super-reasonable price, come to Aldi. Pros: - Lots of parking - Everything is super-cheap Cons: - Absolutely no decorations at all. Not a "nice" shopping experience (if you're into that sort of thing--I am, but I love cheap prices more). - Everything costs extra: bags, carts. Bring your own, save a few cents (I always forget that this stuff costs money, and end up juggling 15 cans of tomato paste/condensed milk/whatever in my hands because I can't bring myself to pay $0.25 for a cart...sigh. And then I shove these things all into my purse because I can't bring myself to spend money for the bag...sigh). Word to the wise: - I haven't bought much produce/fresh foods here, but the fresh food selection is limited to the basics (e.g. no green onions--a basic for me, but I guess prob not a basic for everyone). Also, the fruits, etc. are often more on sale at the nearby Dominick's (e.g. I once got pineapples on sale for cheaper at D's, which is kind of surprising, right?). read more

Aldi is Aldi, can't really elaborate on my review too much. I will say this is one of the best Aldi's I've ever been in. Prices are great (it's Aldi, they're supposed to be great!) and the store is always well stocked and clean. The checkers are fast and always pleasant. Their frozen pizzas rock as does their frozen chicken and pork loins. They're getting busier these days with this suck ass economy so a little longer wait in line is acceptable. The beauty of this Aldi is that Dominick's is right next door. Go to Aldi for your basics and then hit up Dominick's for everything that Aldi doesn't carry. One stop shopping! read more

I have to say this is the best Aldi I have found in the city, yet. I see other yelpers have this place as their second best so I guess I'm not too far off. Did you all know that Aldi and Trader Joe's are incahoots? True story! Owned by the same German company (haha i think!). Some of the products are the same at Aldi but at a cheaper price and different label. The Fit n Active line is the same as most of the "healthier" items you can get at TJ's. The Grandessa line at Aldi is also comparable to items at TJ's. I was told that many of the specialty items at Aldi are often TJ products with a different label, but cheaper!! Sweet! As others have said BYOBag and one quarter for a cart.....no worries, you get the quarter back. It is just their way of keeping carts from flying all over the lot like other places, where you risk dents in your sweet ride! You can take boxes from the store to haul your goods home in if you forget bags and don't want to pay for them......then you can recycle!! I'd say suck it up and buy one of the huge canvas reusables they have.....or attend the next fantastic Yelp event and stock up on Yelp totes :) I love mine! I buy produce here....I'm not much of a food snob. I think they have great onions, peppers, grapes (sometimes) and other fruits, avocados, and tomatoes. The ground turkey isn't bad and I always buy the frozen chicken in the bag. Not the typical Aldi experience at this store, in my opinion. Super friendly cashiers, the lady today even asked for MY help on locating some yummy pasta sauce I had come across! If only this store was close to my house....c'mon South Loop....you are not too good for an Aldi! read more

This is two reviews. I hit Aldi first then xcostcox next door. Hint: Pick up carrots, onion and celery at Aldi then next door and pick up a rotisserie chicken for $5. Carve the chick while it's hot. The meat falls of the bones. Toss the bones and skin in a pot with onion and celery tops for broth. There is nothing like homemade broth and the roasted skin makes it so yummy and rich (strain the bones and skim the grease!) Then you can make anything with the chicken meat: chicken salad, stir fry, or sandwiches for a crowd. If you make soup, dice carrots and celery and add rice or pasta and cook with the strained broth, but remember the meat is already cooked so add some only after your soup is cool. I can hit both places, spend $50-$60 total and have three awesome meals for 2 people all week or I can freeze a bunch of ready-meals and soups. Aldi: celery, carrots, bag 'o onions, 2 packs of mushrooms, 3 zucchini, six small pears, bag of baby spinach, 4 avocados, box of pumpkin flax granola cereal, almond milk, regular milk, cheese, eggs, dishwasher tablets,1 vanilla and 1 plain Greek yogurt cartons, potato chips, natural peanut butter, bread -total $40. Next door: hot roasted whole chicken, cold family size tray of ravioli in meat sauce total $20. Add a hot large everything pizza for an extra $10 at the counter on the way out. I live in Lincoln Park near Lincoln Park Market and used to shop there for convenience just because it's so close. Then, through a friend, I discovered Aldi. I'm not from the Midwest originally, and I'm very good when it comes to price-shopping, and pretty much figured all grocery stores (and their prices) were the same. Aldi proved me wrong. I love this place. Why? Because almost across the board everything in here is 25%-50% less than what I would pay at Lincoln Park Market. The prices are *dramatically* lower. And although I haven't tried everything Aldi has yet, everything I've purchased has been high quality -- I haven't found *anything* to gripe about yet -- and that's after a cart completely full of groceries. And out of the money I save on a trip to Aldi, I can definitely splurge on a cab back to my place on the other side of Depaul -- *bonus*. Keep up the good work, Aldi. read more

My husband and I love love love shopping at Aldi. This Aldi shares a parking lot with a Dominick's so we can always hop there if Aldi is missing any speciality items on our grocery list (ginger, Peet's coffee, etc). You do need to bring your own bags but really, that's better for the environment anyway. I've been to a number of Aldis and this one by far has the fastest and sweetest cashiers. I don't know how they stay so positive and bubbly (especially since this is the second job for many of them) but I always leave in a better mood. We actually just moved to the suburbs and are still shopping at Aldi but I miss the sunny dispositions of the cashiers at this particular one. I miss them. Our favorite Aldi finds (and ways to save money): peaches (delicious!), and really most of the their produce. Basil Tomato pasta sauce (wonderful ingredients that you can read and understand), whole raw almonds, Harvarti cheese, hearts of romaine, house vinagrette, peanut m&ms, oh pretty much everything! read more

just saw Anthony's comment "always the best price on bananas." Maybe then, but not now. Jewel and Mariano's are less expensive. I always like buying organics and Aldi's lettuce and spinach boxes are competitive with Stanley's. Bananas and avocados are a few of the items that don't need heavy pesticides, so I always look at those prices first and decide to stay in the store or start shopping elsewhere. I wouldn't complain except that Aldi always sells itself as having the best prices. Like I said previously, maybe the do on off-brand, processed and prepared foods. read more

Their produce can compete with anyone around at a much lower cost and their cold cereal...better than the national brand that I was paying an arm and a leg for. The store can be somewhat cluttered at times but for these prices, who cares. Milk at 75 cents to a dollar cheaper than anyone else. No wonder I have seen smaller convenience store owners in here stocking up on milk and eggs. If you haven't tried it do, unless of course you are one of those lucky people who doesn't have a budget and doesn't have to watch their money. Everyone else come on...what are you waiting for. I went to Aldi for the first time yesterday and was surprised to find such high quality organic produce at prices a lot cheaper than Whole Foods or Mariano's, where I usually shop. Nowhere near the variety though. Lots of gluten free choices too. Mostly private branded products, but made by well known manufacturers. They have no full service deli or pre made meal counters and all their fresh meats and fish are prepackaged but everything is freshness guaranteed and labeled so. Nothing pretentious about this store like Whole Foods,but for sure, you will walk out of there with more than twice as many groceries for what you would spend elsewhere. They have fresh huge 16" Take-and-Bake 4 Cheese pizzas for $4.99. They are awesome. Better than most pizza parlors. This place is definitely a stock up store. You'll find all sorts of cool things there too like housewares, small appliance, tools and electronics at very reasonable prices. They call them special buys and once they're gone they're gone. They even sell electrical generators. Aldi definitely on my radar. read more
