As I approached the area to purchase the Dubai chocolate strawberries, two employees looked directly at me and did not acknowledge me at all. No greeting, no "someone will help you," nothing despite making clear eye contact. Meanwhile, a white couple was actively being helped at the same time. Being ignored like that is not only unprofessional, it is disrespectful. All customers deserve to be acknowledged and treated with basic courtesy. This experience left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, which is unfortunate given that I've been a repeat customer. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses customer service expectations so that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Toppings are pretty much self-serve, as is the FroYo/sorbet, and be careful what you load up because the pricing is weight-based. Better yet, don't be cautious and let your tummy be in charge with lots to choose from, including boba, sprinkles, nuts, & about every candy bar you know. A couple of cups of FroYo, with moderate (and delicious) toppings ran us about $16, which is kind of pricey but that is on our selections instead of the product. The FroYo options, beyond the standard chocolate & vanilla, offered NY Cheesecake, a fabulous Very Strawberry, Cake Batter, and more. You are bound to find something you like. Service is friendly and the dining area is clean and comfortable. There are even a few games on hand should you want to make it more of a family-ish quality time visit. It is also home to some of the most delicious tomatoes you will ever have in your life. I'm being serious here. There's this guy. He sells them out of the back of his truck. They are the ugliest tomatoes ever, but they are so good. I love this man and his tomatoes. I can't wait until it is July. If you want fancy stalls and pastas and breads and pies, then there's another farmers market close by that is probably better for you. This local spot is located in the little historic Lenexa downtown, which is itself somewhat hidden away now that the Lenexa Public Market is open and draws folks that way. Coming to this stretch of suburbia feels charming and quaint, and I love that there is a really fantastic local coffee shop nestled into this shopping center. Now onto what makes this place so special. There are tons of great cafes in Kansas City, but what sets Maps apart from the pack is that they roast their own beans in house and they are all super fresh. You can taste the difference in the brew and it's a nice change of pace to have something a bit different since many of the local spots in town use the same local roasters. Once you find out about Maps you'll start to notice other cafes and restaurants that use their beans. It's not as many as say, Messenger, but Maps holds their own in this arena. They also make their own chocolate! And when I say make, I mean make. They actually make the chocolate bars and not just the candies. Even more impressive, it's damn good chocolate. Honestly, if you haven't been to this spot and have a love for coffee and/or chocolate it's well worth a visit. The cherry on top for me is how unpretentious the entire place is. You'll feel welcome, and the staff working will be happy to chat your ears off about their products. 5/5 for me!

I chose one of their seasonal menu items, a pumpkin spice latte, and was blown away by how good it was. The pumpkin flavor was nailed perfectly with the coffee. There are never any good coupons, promotions, or discount days, but even so, I continued to support your business, spending on average $17 a visit. I kept hoping that once you were more established, you'd start showing some appreciation to your customers. But today was the last straw. My bowl wasn't even filled to the top. When I politely asked the employee for a bit more fruit, especially since there were only five blueberries in my bowl and plenty of room left, I was told that management has instructed staff to put no more than five blueberries in each bowl. They are not allowed to fill the bowls anymore. This is a lousy business practice, and it speaks volumes about how little you value your customers. There's a new açaí bowl establishment just miles away that offers BOGO days, a rewards program that actually counts, and bowls filled to the brim. You can keep your five blueberries. I'll be going elsewhere from now on.
