Aldi is definitely not my favorite store to shop for groceries. And they have two of these in my town. I go to this store for very specific items-- My go to item at Aldi is avocados as they are always a great bargain in comparison to regular grocery stores. I also scan the produce area for other good deals and items that are fresh. I have found that produce items need to be eaten readily at this store. One of my biggest issues at this grocery store- is the lack of check out cashiers-- usually during the weekdays there are only one open and customers tend to have a lot of items. I was very appreciative of the clerk's speed last time I was at the store- she was on top of it. Plus, if you want to use a cart-- you need to pay 25 cents- you do get your 25 cents when you return the cart, BUT who carries change with them these days. Lastly, the lighting in pretty dim in the store. Not very inviting to spend more time shopping. What can you say, its a "bargain store." read more

There are a lot of great bargains at this Aldi's. Most items are a lot cheaper than your regular grocery store. This is only review I have ever made, but it has to be said. Why in the world does this store have the audacity to have ONE cashier at the registers at all time? While also having the nerve to turn down job applications at the same time. I mean, you could at least hire a bagger since thats apparently not the cashiers job either. All they do is sit there and scan your items as fast as humanly possible, throwing your crap in the cart. This makes it near impossible to keep your groceries organized if you're doing separate orders, even if you SPECIFICALLY tell them that. I mean, they're getting paid for this. All I can think about is how I can easily hop on a register and get the line down while NOT being careless, but they decide to hire people who only care about getting you out the line as quick as they can for their own benefit. It's a shame really, because everyone else who works there does their job really well. But then the end of your shopping experience is ruined by a cashier that doesn't know how to communicate and their only role is scanning your stuff. Not completing your transaction in a satisfactory and timely manner for the customer, like it is in every other grocery store. I've been hearing about Aldi from Clark Howard and finally had a chance to visit one. Keep in mind that in order to use the carts, you will need to place a quarter into the slot to release it from the lock. Afterwards when you return the cart, make sure you collect your quarter. Upon walking in, you notice how small the place is. It's almost about the size of a CVS. They have mostly everything you need but lack the variety of different brands. As far as pricing goes, I can't really say they are any cheaper than going to Ralphs. Only difference is it's not as crowded. But I did wish there were more than 2 cashiers. read more

one of the worst grocery stores ever! I went in once and got yelled by the cashier (that looked like she was on drugs) for not paying .25 cents for a cart mind you, i've never been there before. i did complaint to the manager about it he said he was going to take care of the issue, but it left a bad taste in my mouth not wanting to go back again. not sure if they just hire anyone but that was a terrible experience for me. Came today to get a few final things for tomorrow. Selection of products is very limited here. You really have to pay attention on prices too. I got the last vanilla ice cream for my home made pumpkin pie, and a bottle of almond champagne, some really good sourdough bread, and a few other things. Check out line went super fast! They have a very simple concept. Offer very low prices for your grocery needs. The variety of options is fairly limited compared to the regular grocery stores but the prices can't be beat. The presentation is very simple. You have to bag your own groceries after you check out and if you use their grocery carts you have to insert a quarter to unlock it. I don't know what it is about ALDI in America but I have never been to a single location where there has ever been more than 1 register open no matter when I've gone. I stood on line with many people and was shocked that they didn't have another person working the register. Come to think of it, I only visibly saw 1 other worker in the whole store. In any case the cashier was much faster than I thought she would be. This location is well stocked compared to the Northridge location which is really small. I wouldn't make a special trip to any ALDI despite them having some of the cheapest prices for produce, spices, and frozen produce, but if in the area I'd go in if I have the time. I would though go regularly if they had self check out or at least an express lane. read more

I've been shopping here since day one when they first opened. I enjoy coming to Aldi's. But it's based on where you shop at. The ones in Simi Valley, have a small selection but outside, some have a large selection of items. One of the main problems with Aldi which people universally complain about is the lack of employees available when you enter or leave. It's seldom if you find someone to ask for help. Also, when you want to pay for your items, there is almost always, only one person at the checkout. Here is the answer. Aldi, like some businesses, has a large employee turnover rate. People get hired, but then quit. Aldi is a tough place to work at. I've never worked here, but people who've I spoken to or used to work here, said the majority of the time, you almost have to do everything in the store. Put stuff away, replace old with new, make sure the carts are ready, make sure the prices are correct, clean the floor, put money in the registers, work on the floor, clean the bathrooms, etc. So many employees end up quitting as this job makes you work fast-paced & nonstop. It can be tiring & stressful. So the one person, who ends up doing a majority of the work on the floor, has to check people out as fast as possible. The fewer customers are in the store, the more time for the employees to get some rest but continue working on the floor. But it does pay well if you're willing to work your butt off every day. People also complain about paying one quarter for the carts. Well, go to any other store, how many people actually take the carts back to the store cart section without leaving them in the parking lots, some far away, some next to other vehicles, some carts next to plants or trees, etc.? Making you pay for a cart, means you'll bring it back to the store cart section before you enter the store & get your money back. This is why many stores I believe should be more like Aldi when it comes to carts. It makes people be responsible. It's a burden to the stores to send people out every hour to grab carts & take them back. Go to Costco, Ralph's, Vons, Albertsons, or other grocery stores, & you find carts everywhere. I know what's it like being the cart boy. It ain't fun. It's extremely tiring & stressful. The food at Aldi is great. Great prices on items. You can find great deals on vegetables, fruit, meat, milk, frozen food, canned food, etc. But be warned, some food that are Aldi brands or sold exclusively to Aldi, they have higher sugar, sodium, fat, & cholesterol levels than store brands or regular items found at other stores like Walmart. So look & compare before shopping. I've had no issues or problems with any of the Aldi employees. Please treat them with kindness & respect. They work hard every day & want to make sure you're having a great experience shopping at the location. Don't blame them because of a lack of employees or not being able to check out faster. Some customers who shop there aren't exactly fast people too. I have seen people slowly put items on the conveyor belt, have lots of items in their carts, slowly input their card numbers, or slowly take out money from their purses & wallets. The employees who check them out, are patient and or have to be patient with them as not all people are created equally. Some are fast & some are slow. In the end, I shop at this location rather than the once where Walmart & Home Depot is. This place is great. I can't speak for everyone who I know, but I've enjoyed my shopping experience at this place. read more

A new Aldi in Simi. I've been going to their other location further west on Cochran. If you're unfamiliar with Aldi, they specialize in off-brand (mostly) groceries at super low prices. This new location has the same basic selection of items but a much larger fresh produce section. Like all Aldi stores, the layout doesn't make any sense but if you enjoy cruising up and down the aisles, you'll find everything. I just started shopping here regularly about 4 months ago, and I loved it up until recently. The prices are great but the customer service is awful. One of the checkers (male, bald head) seems to have it out for my teenage son. During one visit, my son pushed our full cart away while I was paying and failed to replace it with another cart (for the checker). The checker reaches behind him, grabs the extra cart, and pulls it over to the side of his checkstand very aggressively. The cart was slammed up against the checkstand multplie times, and the checker was visibly upset. Not only did my son and I acknowledge this aggression, but so did everyone else in line. Ever since that time, the checker has given my son an attitude, even if my son replaces the cart (because we assume that was the original issue) the checker doesn't say thank you and moves the cart an inch closer to him because apparently my son didnt do it up to this guys standards. As we were driving away yesterday, my son said to me "I really don't understand what that guy's problem is, he doesn't communicate so how am I supposed to know what he wants me to do with the cart?!" I assured my son that it's the checkers problem and that he obviously has some anger issues. This checker really makes my son feel uncomfortable and inadequate when it's just a f*cking shopping cart! Seriously, my son feels bad over the entire ordeal, and it's absolutely unnecessary. I'm hoping a manager can reach out to me so I know this checker has been dealt with. read more

Rude cashiers and a wacky system. No hand baskets. If you want a shopping cart you have to put a quarter in to unlock it and then return it to get your quarter back. I only needed a few items so I initially overlooked this. When I went to check out, the cashier automatically started to load an extra cart that another employee had just brought over to her. When she was done ringing me up she asked if I wanted to purchase a bag. I said no, since she already placed all of my items into the shopping cart. When I went to leave she told me I couldn't take the cart and had to take all of my items out of the cart and carry them out by hand. She then gave me a snarky "that's why I asked you if you wanted a bag". Whatever.. plenty of shopping options and I wont be going back. The store is convenient and well organized and the prices are almost unbelievably low but the customer service is worse than non-existent. So I know Aldi is a no-frills grocery store and in many ways I like the no-frills approach: 1) I like the size of the store even if it means less product selection because all things being equal I can get in and out quicker. 2) I love the organization of the store and the efficiency of the displays and packaging, because the organization makes it easier and faster for me to find the stuff I want and the packaging is convenient. 3) I even like the $0.25 rental fee on the carts because now everybody returns their own cart! The problem is the customer service is beyond bad. The store employees act like every customer is a hassle and we should be privileged to shop in their store. I was actually told (not asked) to move as I was picking out produce because a store employee was buffing the floors. The cashiers will leave their station with a line pending without notification or explanation. Because of the checkout wait times can be excruciatingly long even when the store isn't crowded. It might be just because the store is new, but this kind of rude behavior towards customers weighs down what would otherwise be a five star rating. read more

At this particular location the staff always looks frustrated or upset. I went in last night one of the workers was throwing boxes into the basket from the isles, some falling on floor she did not look happy. Aside from that my main concern is at check out. Almost every single time no matter who is at check out, they always throw my food in cart. I have called, talked to someone in person with no changes. I like this location over the store down cochran closer to madera. The only other issue I have with this store is one cashier that is determined to give customers the PREVIOUS customers cart to exit the store. Thereby completely negating the concept of a customer disinfecting their cart in the first place. This one cashier is the extremely nice gentleman with thinning hair. I tried to give him some constructive criticism but he got very defensive. The most time he is saving himself with the cart switch is 10 seconds at most per customer. He needs to stop this. Flu season is coming and the pandemic should have wired him to be different. All of his cashier coworkers DON'T do this. Only him! read more

When I first went to ALDI near Home Depot, I was underwhelmed but I had a coupon and I was not letting it go to waste. After buying their private labels and eggs at .48 cents a dozen. I am a fan. This is my absolute favorite place to shop in Simi. It has high quality items at inexpensive pricing. If meat is on sale, I show up the first day. Like All places, people can be rude. There are also some very nice people who work here. I shop at ALDI and Costco! read more

Wow, I went today for a 2 day sale on tri-tip steak, guess what, no steaks. I asked the only person in the store, "are you out of the sale item?" He says you should have come yesterday. Pop in from time to time to see what is on sale and can occasionally find some bargains. Good produce and good prices on those so worth the trip for that alone. Usually only 1 cashier on duty most hours so morning shopping a bit better than busier times. PSA - check your receipt before you leave. Forgot to recently and got home to find an overcharge. Issue was fixed upon returning but was a pain to drive back. read more
