Always a bad experience at Gelson's in Thousand Oaks. Day before Christmas Eve, and I go in to buy pastries at Mamolo's for a $120, which is a family tradition. The customer service at the bake shop was outstanding! Went through self-check to buy a few extra baguettes, realized I left them behind, went back for them, and they were gone. Tried to get the manager to help, but she had absolutely no time for me; she was actually annoyed with me. I had to seek out my own baguettes again. She couldn't even look at me, treated me like I was trying to get free baguettes after I just dropped $120 at the big shop. Walked out of there with everybody looking at me; the rudest customer service I've ever received, freaking ruined my day. Next time, if there is a next, I'll go to Gelson's in Westlake. Merry Christmas

We picked up a large strawberry shortcake from the bakery on the day of our event. I thought it would be good, but WOW! It tasted amazing: light and fluffy, sweet but not overwhelming, I can say it is one one the best strawberry shortcake cakes I have ever had! The whole extended family were raving about it and what a great way to end our festive evening. When I chose the cake they asked if I would like writing, but since I didn't they were able to add a few flowers at request. If I could I would give more than 5 stars!

We called ahead to put our names in. Big location, lots of seating. It gets loud and busy. Easy parking in a lot out front. We were a group of 12 and they amazingly were ok with splitting up our bills per couple. My bf and I split Brent's #13 (pastrami) and the Italian sub. Both come with sides - we got potato salad, fries, and onion rings. The portions are massive. The pastrami was really good and there was a nice amount of pastrami in the sandwich. Pickles and coleslaw come in the sandwich too. I'd say it's probably not great to save it as leftovers as the bread will likely soak up the liquid from the coleslaw. The steak fries were good. The Italian sub was huge! Hard to eat because the sandwich is stacked so tall. I added some Dijon mustard to the sandwich which was a nice addition and it was pretty good but I liked the pastrami more. I didn't actually love the onion rings that much. The breading they come in is really grainy and I didn't find them that tasty. Portions are huge so pace yourself; in hindsight we probably should have gotten one sandwich and maybe one smaller item. We both were in serious food comas all day after this meal. You pay up at the front when your waiter gives you the bill, right across from where they store epically large looking treats like massive slices of cake, cannolis, and cookies. They're fun to look at!

If you were having a special occasion, we would go to three or more different places to order the catering. I consider myself, not an expert but a decent judge of authentic Italian food. This is the spot I choose for meat lasagna and for their meatballs. I haven't tried anything else yet. We ordered their meat lasagna for a birthday party. We picked it up on Saturday afternoon at 3PM exactly when they said it would be ready. They wrote the directions on top of the cover and we followed them exactly as written. The lasagna was so good that our guests were all pleased. Many asked where we got it. I was proud to tell them I'd made the right choice by going the extra mile to Italia deli. We had 20 guests, everyone had a piece and some of our friends took a couple pieces home. We still had leftovers to put in the freezer. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It's located in the small to medium size outside shopping plaza in Downtown Agoura and right next to the elementary school and high-school. The same owner has been serving customers for years and is always a delight to talk to. My boyfriend and I came here the other day to grab lunch to-go and bring it to the beach to eat. We ordered and it didn't take too long to get our food, as I also peeked next door at the consignment store. They did pack it a little different than I thought they would, putting both sandwiches that we ordered into one aluminum tray with the fries on top, but that's alright. That being said, we ordered two sandwiches, some fries, and drinks (they have cold or room temperature). The chicken burrata with pesto is always my go-to and is so good! It has a classic taste that never gets old, and the flavors in the ingredients all mesh well together. My boyfriend got the Prosciutto Panini and he said he really enjoyed that one, too! *One note is that a good amount of years ago, the owner used to make his own teas and juices for customers; they were always so fun to try. If you're a local and you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for? I'd recommend going for lunch. If you're visiting the area, it's also worth stopping by since Agoura doesn't have many of their own small businesses and restaurants (especially affordable ones that are good.)

Then when you presented your predicament.... Your trusted Dad, with a grin on his face, looks you dead in the eyes and says "Son you're just gonna have to 'Dill' with it." Thanks Dad! Lol (Dad Jokes FTW) Now, let's all 'relish' in this moment ;) Well thankfully for you, all further Dad jokes shall cease immediately. Ok, just one more.... Let's get into the 'bread and butter' of this review. --------Dad jokes shall not pass this line-------- Speaking of being in a Pickle.... I seem to find myself at Pickles Deli & Restaurant in Newbury Park every time someone in our household is under the weather. Sure, DayQuil & Nyquil are great. And a nap in a dark room does wonders. But who feels like going to the kitchen when you feel like you've been run over by a bus to make yourself or someone in your family food when you just want to lay down and sleep. *Pickles Deli to-go counter has entered the chat* Yes! There is just something about Pickles house made chicken noodle soup that will make everything better! Pro Tip: Squeeze some from fresh lemon to give it a zing all while adding a little boost of Vitamin C. This along with their complimentary bagel Crisps and a big cup of their fountain sprite/7up and you will get you back to your old self in no time! Of course, Pickles Deli and restaurant is more than just their delicious chicken noodle soup from their to-go counter when you are not at your best. They also serve up Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner daily where you can get your expected Deli specialties such as lox and latkes for breakfast or their corned beef, pastrami, and beef brisket sandwich's for lunch and/or dinner just like at a true New York delicatessen. Yes, they've also got house made matzo ball soup! Of course, these are just the specialities, so be prepared as their menu has a wide range of items that will make everyone in your parties belly smile. And after you are all done stuffing your face with all of the savory stuff, be sure to stop at their glass case line to grab a sweet treat for the way out. So......... The next time you are in a Pickle... You can always go to your Dad and pray that he gives you some sound advice (or maybe just a Dad joke to at least make you smile)... But after that, bring him or whoever is willing to join, to Pickles Deli and enjoy a good, hearty meal that will be sure to temporarily help you forget about that pickle you're in. ***Dedicated to my late Father whose witty humor always made me laugh.
