Horrible experience, would never eat here again. Dined here with a group of 9 on a Friday night, we…read morethought we were lucky the place was almost empty, we quickly found out why. It took at least 15 minutes after we were seated for our server to even introduce herself to us and take our drink order (still no menus at this point) then at least another 15 minutes to get our drinks (most of which were in cans) got our menus, not a very versatile menu either. Took maybe another 45 minutes to receive our food, lo and behold half of the table received either messed up orders or the completely wrong meal. Another 20 minutes for the correct meals to come. Keep in mind there are maximum five other groups dining in the entire restaurant. The food wasn't bad, I had the turkey club which had a whopping two thin slices of turkey on it. Only thing I would recommend from this place is their fries. If you're thinking about dining at this establishment, you'd be better off going to the quick trip down the road.

It was the kind of place where people shared fishing and hunting stories and built a real sense of community, which is so important in a rural town. Since ownership changed, it hasn't felt the same, and it's been sad to see the impact on the staff. The bartenders and workers are doing their very best and currently rely heavily on tips. Please consider stopping in for a drink to support them--and tip well. I truly hope the new ownership takes steps to protect the staff and preserve what was once an iconic spot in the town of Rome.

The burger was good, the drinks were made well and refilled quickly when we were done. Menu is basic bar fare. They had their Friday fish fry and it looked overall to be of good quality from the plates I saw coming out of the bar. There were people waiting for tables the whole time we were there so it was a pretty busy place. We did order an appetizer that was forgot. It never did show up on our bill so at least we didn't get charged for it. Would have said something but the burgers were out so fast we did't realize the app was missed at the time. The service also left something to be desired. It wasn't bad by any means, just overall not too friendly. Our bartender/server was attentive, but seemed very gruff. Even a thank you for her pouring a drink was met with a growl, not a "you're welcome". It all just felt a little cold overall. It could have just been an off night so it certainly won't prevent us from going back. Still, if you are looking for basic bar food and solid drinks, it is definitely a worthwhile option in the area. Beautiful lake views as well.

We are out-of-towners that found this joint on a maps search. Based on the reviews I read from…read moreothers and the lack of BBQ options in our area, I was very excited to try this place. However, it didn't quite live up to the hype. My husband had the poutine with brisket (pictured), he ate most of it, but when asked for his thoughts on it he said the brisket seemed to have more pieces of fat than actual meat. The cornbread side he ordered was good though, with just the right amount of sweetness. I had a pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and potato salad. The beans had so many good reviews I felt compelled to try them, and they weren't bad just seemed like basic canned beans with some pulled pork thrown in. The pulled pork for the sandwich was fine, but came smothered in what appeared to be paprika, nothing special. Potato salad ingredients were nicely sized, but it was bland. The barbecue sauce might be homemade and you could feel the grittiness of the sugar crystals in it, which was surprising but good, and had a little bit of heat to it. I snuck a bite of my kids' mac and cheese after my two year old took a bite and said, "bleck." The Mac and cheese had the right amount of creaminess and the noodles were cooked to the right amount of tenderness to keep it from tasting like it's been sitting all day, but it seemed very bland and needed salt to be enjoyable. The pickles were very good. It took nearly thirty minutes to receive our food, but our server was very prompt in welcoming us and getting drinks to the table. They were also very friendly when my little one didn't want to stay seated and kept thinking the ATM was her personal computer, the struggle was real after being strapped in a car seat for the last 1.5 hours. There is a popcorn machine that offers free popcorn and a couple different seasoning options to top it with. My kids enjoyed the popcorn while we waited for our food. When I asked my kids what they thought of our new restaurant find, my middle daughter (10) commented on how the bartender was very loud and talked a lot. She could be heard regardless of which end of the restaurant she was on. I noticed the same thing, but thought maybe it was just me. We were fed, but probably won't return. This restaurant is located next to a railroad track in the middle of a very wooded area and the deer were abundant. We had to slow at least four times within 5 miles of the restaurant for deer crossing the road.

Service was above average. Ordered a doz wings. They were hot and done well. My only complaint was…read morethey were virtually tasteless, no seasoning at all, was offered blue cheese for a dipping sauce. Tried to dip into my blue cheese sauce and was a dry skin on it, couldn't get my wing to break the skin. So I used there house sauces instead. Enjoyed the spicy barbecue sauce but was a bit gritty for my taste. Won't order their wings again unless they add some seasoning but I'll never know because they won't advertise it,

What a gem in Mauston!…read more We're here for a baseball tournament, and I stopped in to grab a couple of sandwiches to throw in the cooler. I had the chicken salad, and it was absolutely delicious--unique, with a few surprise ingredients and a sweet chili drizzle that completely made it. I'll definitely be stealing that idea for my own chicken salad. I also ordered the smoked turkey cranberry hoagie for later. When I asked if it would be possible to have the bread on the side so it wouldn't get soggy, the team at the counter went above and beyond, individually wrapping all of the ingredients so I could put together a fresh sandwich for dinner. Such thoughtful customer service. I couldn't leave without trying the toffee pretzel cookie, and wow... it was to die for. I shared it with a few of the other team parents, and the first question was whether you sell them by the dozen! This will absolutely be a repeat stop every year for this tournament, and probably several times throughout our stay in Mauston. Great food, incredible customer service, a fresh produce stand in the back, and the cutest little shop filled with unique finds. Highly recommend!

We split a club sandwich which was more than big enough. All ingredients were fresh. I loved the fresh bacon. Yum! I had a fun time perusing the items around the store for purchase. So many local options. As we still had a few hours to go on our journey, I skipped the cheese (although it looked amazing) and chose some 'travel' beef sticks. So good. Lots of tables for seating. I was disappointed that they wouldn't fill my water bottle with tap water but I enjoyed the bottled lemonade as a replacement. Good experience.
