Do not rent here! We booked a convertible well in advance and the listed price was $160, when we arrived for our 1 pm reservation we were charged $180 and had to wait 45 minutes for our car to be brought over from a different location. The entire dashboard of the car was lit up and it was making terrible sounds the whole time. After driving it a total of maybe 5 miles, it sounded like something was seriously wrong so we pulled over and a wheel just fell off and rolled away. Luckily we were all safe and they came to pick us up and gave us a full refund. read more

Excellent customer service. I called yesterday to confirm if I would need a reservation for today. The reservation agent was honest and didn't pressure me that they may likely sell out. (They have TONS of inventory - so I don't imagine they often do, but can't confirm). At any rate, I'm online they were offering a discount for 40% for the fall, if you booked ahead rather than walking up. Not only this, but they were also offering an excellent value package which included a scooter and two bikes for an extremely reasonable price. all the staff was helpful. We came back and rented a moped. We explored a LOT, almost the whole, island. Although, we wish it was a little faster. As two females a in a pink bike (which we didn't really want) seemed VERY slow compared to the others. Rented a two bicycles when we visited the island. Very smooth and easy transaction process, friendly staff and very reasonable rental prices, cheapest around actually. The island was small enough to venture on bike, but with the heat and humidity, a moped next time will be better suited. Will definitely come back again! read more

I had a chance to visit Block Island for the first time a few weeks ago and truly had a blast! One of the reasons my experience was so enjoyable was because of Island Moped and Bikes. I've never ridden a moped before, so I was very apprehensive towards renting bikes during my stay. However, they provided me with thorough instruction beforehand which made me feel confident and safe riding around the island. The bike rentals are okay for what it is (super cheap), but I would suggest paying a little more for quality and hygiene. Their bikes are very, very old and not well-maintained. Definitely take it on a test drive around the block before heading off and make sure the brakes work. We ended up switching out the first 2 bikes they gave us because it made unusual noises while peddling. The handlebars are gross and sticky. They do not sanitize the gear before and after use. read more

My friend and I took the ferry to Block Island from Point Judith and stopped at the first bike rental store we saw. We opted for the cheaper rental bikes ($15 per person for a three-hour rental) that still had 7-8 speeds. The issue was that my friend had to go back twice to get a different bike. The first time, the chain was misaligned, and the second time her bike would not downshift speeds. So if you choose to rent a bike here, make sure to stress test them well before you get too far! That being said, my friend and I did an 11-mile loop around the island, stopping at the iconic spots (South East Lighthouse, Mohegan Bluffs, Rodman's Hollow). The speeds on the bike were sufficient for getting up the hills (none of them were terribly steep, though it was a good workout). We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day in the low 70s with the lovely ocean breeze. I had a wonderful time! Just make sure your bike works, okay? read more

We rented a scooter for the day and 100% this is the best way to get around Block Island. We made it around the entire island in less than two hours. It was a gorgeous trip with the fresh sea breeze and scenic views (way better than a taxi tour). The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I previously owned a Buddy scooter, so I had experience. They still gave us a short private demo and provided helmets. Eye protection is also legally mandated (they sell sunglasses for $5). Island Moped and Bike went above and beyond in their service. Great staff & decent moped for rent, but just watch the different pricing options and see if you can score a good deal. I rented a moped here -- the prices are pretty high, but watch for deals. If you rent after a certain time and return before noon the next day, there's a discount and it's actually pretty reasonable. To top it off, I got a $10 off coupon as well from one of the employees to entice me to rent, so it worked out to about $65 overnight for the moped. The one thing they don't tell you is that there is a city ordinance that prevents you from riding the moped after 10pm or so. I don't think they were super strict about enforcing it as long as you weren't being a jerk, but the rental company didn't tell me that until after the rental was complete. It was a bit of a chilly, breezy day, but our teenagers wanted mopeds, so why not? The paperwork was done pretty quickly, with no hassle and the owners were INCREDIBLY patient and kind with our teens, ensuring that they knew what they were doing before they went out on the roads. The kids went all over the island in a few hours and had a fantastic time. As a parent, I really appreciated the extra time to ensure my kids' safety. My husband and I rented bikes and spent 2 hours riding around - nice bikes, super comfortable and the hills were no problem. We rented a moped, because it would be very hard to walk this whole island due to the layout and GPS gets really squirrely here. The first day we tried to find Mohegan Trail and after 3 miles it pronounced "You have arrived" in the middle of private residences. The moped rates were negotiable as it was off season. We drove all over the island in about an hour, then used it to get to different trails and landmarks with an old fashioned map. Lol, remember those? read more

Wanted to take a quick tour, and as a refresher for not renting a motorbike for years. Personalized one-on-one instruction, and very comprehensive. First did a couple ovals in their lot, then onto the street for a quick up and back. All of the staff, from the 'office' check-in members to the instructors were very professional. The mopeds look brand-new, and all were in very clean/well-maintained condition. Am surprised to read the 9/7/2022 review as it was the same day I rented, and my experience was an 11 out of 10. HORRIBLE staff and service from top to bottom. they give you a brief lesson in a tiny bumpy back alley which is an absolute joke. staff is rude, impatient and unprofessional. one of the kids working decided to get confrontational and started swearing which was a nice bonus. definitely wouldn't recommend putting a tip in their weed fund jar! Rented moped here last summer and thought the staff was rude. My husband and I tried again this summer and the experience was even worse! My husband had no problem passing the 'test' but for a woman the staff is sexist and dismissive. They tested a big group driving down the narrow street and we waited while the staff was talking to each other. The testing went on for 30 minutes as our two hour rental time was ticking away!!!! After all that the staff wanted me to ride with my husband with no explanation. it was not only frustrating but humiliating. We left and went to another moped place and had no problem!! read more

Ugh....rented a moped for a 4 hour block at a pretty decent price...so it all started out well. I also appreciated the quick refresher course...even though it was done in their adjacent gravel lot. I'm glad I wasn't a first time rider...the instructor spent a little extra time on how to manually kick start the moped in case the battery died. "Yeah yeah yeah...move on my man, I want to explore the island" Well....I should have paid more attention to that manual start lesson. Our bike died on us 3 times and towards the end I just kept it running and we snapped pictures from the moped.... We turned the bike in and I mentioned that it died on us a few times. He said "yes, we have been having problems with this moped for a few weeks now." WTF....I guess that is what you get towards the end of the season. Hey, on a positive note...at least I now know how to crank one of these beasts up manually.....beep...beep.... read more

I got my moped up to 55+ km/h. Weeeeeee! It did not break down, the gas gauge did not move, and it brought me everywhere I needed to go. We got three of these, and after signing a few papers and doing a test lap, we were off. Even at 2pm on a very busy and warm Sunday - they had plenty on hand. I'm not saying you will never need a reservation, but chances are pretty good that you can just walk up and get one. Moped to the cliffs and lighthouse, ride through town, and then explore as many other streets as you can. We did two hours, and this was plenty of time to see everything with ample driving-to-nowhere time in between. The staff was nice, though I couldn't really understand (accent) the guy who explained mopeds to me. Rest assured, I have mopeded in the past, but if you are a newbie you might need a little more hand holding. $75 per bike with insurance & gas included for two hours of riding - a fun way to get around the island....at a maximum speed of right around 60km/h. read more

The poor reviews here do not represent my experience this weekend. I see they are older reviews so I thought it important to add in my positive experience. We showed up early afternoon this past Saturday. I was concerned there would be no mopeds left, but there were and they got us on the road quickly. The paperwork was quick, insurance was only a fin - how can you go wrong? You pick your own helmet so I'm not sure how a previous reviewer ended up with a broken one. They give you a quick tutorial and do some quick testing . . . and if they aren't happy with your u-turn or braking skills they send you for a bit more tutoring around the block. After which, we were quickly on our way with excellent words of advice: cars aren't allowed to pass you so ride the middle if the road, the speed limit is 25 and the mopeds go 30. The mopeds are not Vespas; and you're on Block Island in the summer so they've seen some usage but there's nothing wrong with the two we had so I have no complaints. I would rent from them again, and enjoyed a great few hours zipping around the island. They are located around the corner from the Harborside Hotel in Old Harbor so a quick walk from the ferry. read more
