My boyfriend and I finally decided to check out Alebrijes Cafe & Grill after wanting to try this place for a while now. We went for dinner on a Thursday evening. They weren't super busy so we got seated immediately. Our server David was very polite and attentive. He checked in frequently and helped explain some menu items for us. Shame he wasn't also on the menu because he looks like a snack. We started with the Empanadas with Chorizo, Potato, and Cheese. The appetizer portion comes with 5. These were very good, the dough tasted fresh like they were made to order. For our main entree we shared the Alebrije Parrillada for two. This gave us a good sampling of multiple meats and sides. Everything comes served in a hot molcajete. My favorite meats were the chorizo and the shrimp. My favorite bite overall was the toasted Oaxacan cheese. So good - I could've eaten an entire plate of just that. The rice and beans were decent, however the beans could have benefited from a little more salt. You can choose either flour or corn tortillas. My only qualm would be that there were some temperature inconsistencies among the various components. Some were borderline room temperature, like they had been cooked first; others were piping hot. Overall taste was great though. Will I return? Absolutely yes. If you're craving home-cooked style Mexican food that doesn't leave you feeling super heavy - this is the spot to try.

We drive by this area quite a bit and didn't know it was here as it's tucked in behind CVS and a pool supply shop. We stopped in around 2PM on a Saturday and were sat quickly. The music was very loud, but we didn't mind it. Our server was very friendly. We ordered the burrito Classico with carne asada and red sauce; and the tres enchiladas with cheese and black mole sauce. The carne asada in the burrito was great- it was cooked well and I think I would rate the overall dish a 7/10. I think it lacked some deep taste, but I would definitely order this again. The enchiladas with the black mole was amazing. Loved the mole sauce!! I would go back just for the mole sauce (can this be bottled and sold?!) We are looking forward to our next visit!

We've been here multiple times for breakfast, but this was the first time for dinner, and we loved it! The carne asada ala tampiquena was delicious - I've never had mole before, and I'd definitely get it again. Also highly recommend the tequila banana flambé.

Came for my mom's bday. This is a cute small restaurant. We were a party of 10 and it seemed a challenge to seat us. We waited an hour and hoped for patio but it was small and we would take up almost the entire space. Our waitress was great and did amazing with our orders. The food was good and so were the drinks. My biggest eat issue was the cocktail menu was so dirty gross. So much caked on food. It really grossed me out.

The place was nice, upon entering. You can tell they had put thought into the decor. We were seated right away. There were customers, but it wasn't too busy. It got more full after we got our dinner. I ordered the tres enchiladas. I asked for each of the sauce choices on the enchiladas. Black Mole, red and green. Green was my favorite. Red sauce did have a nice little kick. It came with a very small side of rice and black beans. Hubs got the carne asada plate. Neither one of our dishes came out hot. More like warm. Not a fan of that. The drinks were stiff. That was a positive. I got a patron mango margarita and hubs got a Cadillac margarita. He ordered the coffee. So good. And we also tried the churros with nutella and caramel. Also, great. I wouldn't mind coming back. I would like to try the Chile Relleno dish.

Stopped by on the way home, coming from Sedona Az, to LA. We searched up near by restaurants and stopped here at Alebrites Cafe & Grill. We ordered Chilaquiles red and green, both with egg and steak. Great authentic restaurant with amazing dishes. Service was excellent. Thank you

This is a beautiful restaurant very authentic decor and full of culture. Went for brunch on a Saturday and it was their busy time but no wait to be seated. Our waiter was a kind older man who was attentive to our needs and gave good food and drink recommendations, which were a hit. The food was plated well and tasty.

This place continues to be absolutely fantastic! I have been here many many times and I am always quite happy with my visits. The food continues to be delicious, in spite of some changes that they have made to the menu.

Burrito was great, tasted home cooked. Service was awesome. Restaurant was clean. I'll be back soon

Came in on a Wednesday morning for brunch, it was kind of empty. We were seated right away. Service was okay, not very talkative or friendly. Sometimes they would drop something off at our table without saying a word. (It was the older gentlemen working there) The food was good, and so were the agua frescas. I really liked the mole chilaquiles. It has been hard to find good chilaquiles in AZ!! Gave them 5 stars because they were kind enough to sing happy birthday to my son. Brough him a churro sundae, put a big mariachi hat on him and everyone sang. It was a very nice gesture. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again!

Such a comforting brunch spot! Everything tasted homemade, like a meal straight from a family kitchen. LOVE THE FLAVORS! every dish had that authentic home-cooked touch. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly kind. You can really tell they put love into the food here. Perfect place for a relaxed Mexican brunch that feels warm and comforting. And the cafecito de olla was the best coffee I've had in a while. I'll literally just come back for a zip of that cafecito!

    Not worth the price

This place is too hyped for what you get. The horchata had too much of something, I don't know if it was too much cinnamon or if they add anise to it but it made it taste like fabric softener. The chilaquiles were ok but nothing to rave about and the food was cold by the time it came to our table. The burrito was nothing but beans and rice with a little bit of shredded meat. The huevos rancheros had so much cheese that it harden up that made it hard to eat. The staff was all super friendly and the decor was great/ You do have to wait and for that reason we thought this place was going to be good but unfortunately it wasn't what we thought based on the reviews. If you want to go to a place that has mediocre food but a really good aesthetic vibe then come here. The food is very nicely presented and makes great picture content but the flavor is just ok.

Pretty good mole offering. For some reason it's hard to find a really good one here in Phoenix.

I can't tell from the pictures - do they have true outdoor seating? Or is it mostly enclosed? Is there at least one fully open side?

It's mostly enclosed. But it is technically an out door seating area

Of course, we have a variety of options. Just ask for Gilbert and he will be happy to explain all the options.

The host stand felt cold and unwelcoming, and the overall energy outside was a little off-putting. To be fair, the hostess was polite when she interacted with us directly, but the first impression was not warm. Once we were seated, Miguel turned the whole experience around. Since we are vegetarian, we have to ask extra questions about sauces, stocks, and hidden meat ingredients. Miguel was extremely helpful with navigating the menu and made sure the items with meat stock were removed or avoided. That kind of care matters a lot. The food was also pretty good. I had the South of the Border Omelette, and my wife had the burrito. Both were solid, and Miguel's service made us feel taken care of instead of like we were being difficult for asking questions. Good food, excellent service from Miguel, and a much better experience once we got past the initial welcome.

Being a resident I drop in here about every five years and while consistent in their offerings, it also consistently "meh". We brought our pup and the service from Miguel was attentive and helpful even bringing a bowl of water for our pup. The location and ambiance is quiet and intimate (I suggest sitting outside when it's nice) and is much bugger than it looks. Coffee taste like Folgers and while each plate has a lot of ingredients, it doesn't have a lot of taste. We ordered the Lady Litchfield Omelette and breakfast burrito and while generous in portion the irony of the dishes was interesting. The omelette was chock full of veggies and minimal egg to wrap them, the burrito had a ton of egg and tortilla but minimal ingredients to taste. At the End of the Day I just don't feel like the experience warranted the $16+ price tag per meal. I'll come back in five more years and see if anything has changed.

There is a sign on the door. I never read it because I have been eating here and having meetings and telling the whole community about the great food and great service. My grandson has a medically documented sensory and texture disorder that restricts his food options. On this particular visit, we brought chicken nuggets to accommodate his dietary needs. The waitress informed us that outside food was prohibited and must remain in a bag. Despite explaining his medical condition and my status as a regular patron, the situation escalated when I spoke with the owner. I acknowledge that I became vocal about my patronage and expenditures at the establishment. One year later, I remain committed to informing my community about this experience. Having worked in the restaurant industry for over twenty years, I am familiar with the principle of reasonable accommodation for customers' needs. Rather than seeking a mutually acceptable solution, the establishment chose to enforce policy rigidly. This approach demonstrated a lack of consideration for children with special needs. I have discontinued my patronage and actively discourage others, particularly those who understand special needs challenges, from dining at Country Griddle. For a decade, we have served special needs families, understanding that dietary accommodations prevent additional trauma. My grandson apologized for the incident, which I assured him was not his responsibility. The fundamental issue remains that Country Griddle prioritized policy enforcement over compassionate customer service, even when a simple exception could have resolved the matter.

We looked at the website and noticed that they had some gluten-free alternatives for my hubby so that was a plus in our book. First thing we saw when we walked in was all the goodies that they have for their bloody Mary bar. They had over 30 different items that you could add to your Bloody Mary for as little as $14. This included meatballs, and bacon. Everyone that we spoke to was kind and very friendly. Son decided on the peanut butter and jelly French toast, hubby decided on the lemon ricotta and blueberry compote gluten-free pancakes, and since I knew I would be sharing the bougie biscuits. I just ordered two fried eggs. One of the things that was so great about this place -for especially gluten-free eaters - is that they were willing to adjust or accommodate almost anything on the menu in order to make it adaptable. The host, the gentleman behind the bloody Mary bar and our server were very well educated. The restaurant was super cute and had a vibe with black-and-white sayings all over the wall. The food was delicious although my husband said the pancakes were a little dense, but that's to be expected for gluten-free pancakes. Phoenix area ( Peoria) had some really good restaurants to choose from!

We actually followed the owners here after frequenting their previous coffee shop, En Route. When they opened New Penny, supporting them was an easy decision. There are house-made dishes, local merchandise, a shaded patio, and plenty of charm throughout. My wife's favorites are the Breakfast Totchos and the Acai Bowl. Personally, I am also a loyal Breakfast Totchos fan. As for drinks, the Copper Coin and the legendary Cowboy Latte are both worth ordering. What truly sets New Penny apart, however, is the people. The owners and staff have created a space that feels inclusive, welcoming, and genuinely connected to the community. Support local businesses.
