I went to grab a cup of water and a woman with a backpack on asked if I needed help. I initially thought she was another customer, but she actually worked there and was still willing to help even though she was clearly heading out. It was such a small interaction, but genuinely so thoughtful. Then after I left, I realized I had forgotten my retainers at the table. Okay this spot was such a vibe -- part café, part boutique market energy, and honestly just one of those places you can hang for a while. Bright open space, cute local goods everywhere, and the funniest little gift section that had us literally rolling. It feels casual but still thoughtfully curated, which I loved. My husband and I met a friend here for breakfast and I was thoroughly impressed. I got the chicken and waffle sandwich and my husband got the California burrito. We've been here a few times and we really like that they have a variety of different foods to pick from. The service was quick on the day we went. You just walk up to order and they bring out the food to you but you grab your drinks by the counter. My partner and I tried New Penny Cafe for the first time recently. Overall it was positive experience and I would like to try them again at some point. This is a counter service restaurant . So if you get "table anxiety" you may want to go when it's less busy on a weekday, or have a member of your party grab a table while the other orders. Luckily we were able to snag a shaded table on the patio. For food we ordered the California Breakfast Burrito, Breakfast Tacos from the $5 menu, and a side of Hashbrowns. The burrito was decent, but it doesn't come with any salsa unless you ask for some on the side. The Breakfast Tacos were extremely dry. There are bottles of hot sauces on the tables which helped, but neither of us were a fan of the tacos. The Hashbrowns were pretty standard, but tasty. They have a really interesting selection of coffee drinks on their menu. We didn't end up ordering anything because we'd already had our morning coffees, but there were several which caught our eye for next time. read more

Food was good, not great, and hugely overpriced (thus the three star rating). So, by good, I mean, how can you mess up an egg and bacon. Except you can't get the eggs cooked how you want, they are fried, period. And the eggs I was served were super salty. I got the "Low Carb Power Bowl". It comes with two eggs, 2 short strips of bacon. That was it for the "food". Came with a condiment of a dollop of mashed avocado (not guacamole, which is spiced avocado dip, but it looked like guacamole), and a condiment of salsa. It came with a sprinkle of shredded cheese next to (on the container) or on top of the mashed avocado. For bacon and eggs (with a dollop of avocado and 2 tablespoons of salsa, it came to over $9. The bacon wasn't like a full strip, but it was a wide strip - and not real thick, just average. Like I said, the fried egg was... ok... got a couple of mouthfulls of salt in the eggs, however, enough to choke over. I wish they wouldn't season food like that without asking. The bacon was... ok. The salsa was really good, and the best part of this breakfast. They also had fresh squeezed orange juice (extra $), which is a big plus for me. Beyond the breakfast, they have all sorts of pastries and desserts, and they all look amazing!! For me, being low carb, these were all off limits. But if I was craving something sweet, this would def be my go-to to try. The cafe itself is also a little local artisan shop. You know the typical things you would find in a card shop or something of that character... ceramic mugs, cups, and jewelry... however, what they carry is ALL local, and different than you would find in a typical card-type shop, or tourist shop, if you will. Some very cool and unique items, some unique ceramic mugs and cups, and just everything was so cool there. If I was looking for a nice, unique, hand made gift of some sort, this too, would be the first place I would go! Would I try them again for breakfast? Maybe. But something different than I got. And, though I thought the low carb breakfast was way over priced, it was one of the cheapest items on the menu. Maybe if it came with two meats instead of one, three eggs instead of two. Or also included olives, cottage cheese, or cheese sticks... or a drink... orange juice. But as it was, at l least for $9 a pop, I oughta be able to choose how my eggs were cooked, and how they were seasoned. As well, to have the cheese put ON the eggs, or at least ON the food and not on the container. Overall, 50-50. Good, not great, could be better, but the shop itself was cute, and the bakery items, at least, looked good. read more

First time here. Wanted to take my grandson here for breakfast and talk. The inside was too loud so we sat outside. Before going outside, we placed our order which included 2 fried eggs. I've been to many places so when they said fried eggs, I said I wanted the fried eggs to be medium. She said "they are only served fried". Ok - but that is all I'm asking is for my fried eggs to be over medium. No, they only do fried or sunny side up. This place needs to have their definitions printed somewhere because fried eggs are classified by how the egg is cooked and whether it is flipped - not just "fried". The eggs came "over hard" which apparently is their definition of a fried egg. Just say that in your menu. The egg bowl did tasted great. I also ordered a side of sourdough toasted bread. When the toast arrived, it was already cold - in fact the butter would not even melt on the toast. Grandson ordered the french toast bites and loved them. We sat outside and by the time we were finished my grandson had 6 mosquito bites. As we were leaving, I mentioned to them about the bites and asked if they had their outside serviced for mosquitos. Her response was "No. That is outside." Really? I had no idea I was outside. Frustrating response by someone who didn't understand that maybe restaurants who offer outdoor seating should make sure it is a good environment for people and not just bugs. And with all the talk about the nile virus being transmitted from mosquito bites I was pretty disappointed in her lack of empathy. Stopped in for late lunch with my girls and my daughter thought is was the coolest place. She loved the decor and the displays of things to buy. We ordered the chicken salad sandwich, French toast bites & kids potato plate (great idea!). All the food was really good. The chkn sandwich was very satisfying. I come to New Penny Cafe regularly and have generally enjoyed it, but I've had multiple experiences recently that were disappointing. The service from management (specifically the lady with pink hair) in particular has felt unprofessional and dismissive. There seems to be a lack of awareness in how customers and staff are being treated with clear favoritism towards specific individuals, and it creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. As a frequent customer, I expect a welcoming and respectful environment, both for guests and employees.
