Carnitas combo & bean and cheese burritos
    Jenna H.

We love this spot. Everything is delicious, the burritos are huge (the meat burritos are about 2x the size of the bean ones in this picture, which are already huge), it's very reasonably priced and the service is quick. We usually do takeout but the space is perfect for dining in and family friendly. One of our favorites for sure!

Got the chips and salsa and asada combination plate. The chips were fresh and perfectly crunchy. The steak was super flavorful and the whole plate was filling with the 4 tortillas on the side. Service was nice and quick. They have a ton of seats inside and a nice outdoor setup also. Would definitely come back to try other dishes and the bakery as well!

i've driven by here multiple times and the parking lot was always full so i wanted to try. it's an order first then seat yourself type of restaurant. the lady that took our order wasn't super friendly, but all the other workers were nice! i ordered fish enchiladas. unfortunately the fish was dry and fishy. chips and salsa were good. the combo was ok. good prices. i think i had higher expectations coming here so i was a bit disappointed. there was a bakery inside and i got churros. it was really good! too bad it wasn't warm.

Yummy Mexican food. Everything we ate was good. Tacos, mole and enchiladas. Tender mole chicken with slightly sweet mole sauce. Large pastry selection section in the restaurant too! Came in on a Saturday, packed tight, you'll be sharing a table with others, get cozy!

Pastries--sadly, these are not GF. But they sure look good!

The employees were super friendly and I even found some great Gluten Free/Dairy free food! I had three tacos and my daughter had the shrimp soup. After not seeing sour cream or cheese on it, I asked if her soup was GF/DF. It was! The flavor was so good! My husband and son ordered a wet burrito and my husband said it was the best Mexican restaurant food he's had since we lived up in Washington. The warm chips and salsa were delicious as well! Now they are picking out their pastries--there are a lot to choose from!

i have been coming to sanchez for years, the service and the food have been incredible all these years. The staff here truly cares about their customers and about the quality of their food. I always leave full and happy.

Carnitas combination plate. Enough for three people.

As is a commonality with all restaurants of different ethnicities, if the people from that culture are eating there, it's reasonably a good sign. That is true with Sanchez Taqueria in Tigard. This past Sunday in the early afternoon, two of us ventured over to a packed parking lot and a fairly full restaurant. Yes, on a Sunday. It was highly unexpected, but I guess that meant the food must be good or lots of people were picking up pan dulce. They do advertise their panadaria right outside. A line to get in, an asada torta for me and an asada burrito for my buddy and we're sitting down and looking over at eight cases full of Mexican pastries with an endless supply of carts coming out of the back to replenish even more of the sweet delicacies. In all of my years eating Mexican food and/ or going to places with Mexican bakeries, I had never seen such an overturn of desserts. Crazy. It also meant that prior to leaving, we would be purchasing some. It's safe to assume that the bread is made in-house and the torta was better than most I've had. The meat was tasty and it wasn't dry. Lots of good seasoning. The red and green hot sauces on the tables are good, but also not too hot, for those that aren't partial to spicy, but there is a chili oil on the table that solved that for the rest of us. It made me sweat quite fast and provided one heck of a zing. The pastries? I got a couple of churros, a concha, flan and a pastry with chocolate. The churros and the chocolate dessert were damn good. The flan, not as great with a little bit much of a alcohol flavor towards the bottom of it, and the concha was as good as any other concha I've ever had. And no, they were not all consumed at once or even not the same day. Shoot, I'd have to be rolled off the couch if I did something like that. All I know, is that in the dozens of times passing by Sanchez Taqueria and only just going in, I have to kick myself and will be back a lot quicker to try more items off their menu. And more desserts. Enjoy. Support local PDX (and Tigard).

I've always driven by this place, but never tried it. Wish I tried it sooner because the food was amazing! Portion size was large, great quality, and also had a giant container of chili oil set on each table. The chili really hit the spot! Spicy and crispy They also have a large variety of baked Mexican goods. I got myself some pudding and delicious Flan The restaurant was packed and I took that as a good sign. It was very warm and comfortable with authentic vibes inside. Everyone here was so kind and I would love to come back here more regularly.

Pretty much mediocre. Unfortunate. But there are much better options. This is for the restuarant. Did not try the bakery goods.

Enchilada was overdone and cold! Our Chili Relenones were flat! The beans and sauce were watery. We were so disappointed!

I was originally going to go to taco bell (what a mistake that would have been). I saw this as I was driving by and thought I should give it a try. The beef tacos came out wonderfully like little steak bites in corn shells. Just the right amount of spice and veggies. I will definitely stop back when I'm in the Tigard area as this was just to tasty to pass up again. They do have indoor dining too I just didn't stop inside. So, I cannot comment on the ambiance of the dining room. Don't pass this one up.

Their breakfast burritos are tasty, simple, and while sometimes inconsistent, are still a nice warm meal first thing on a Saturday. However, in the last few months, every time I enter, there's a Sonos speaker that is playing music ON BLAST. It's been in a few different locations; over the condiment bar, or behind the register near the kitchen, and at such a volume that I could barely hear the employee at the register, and I had to raise my voice to be heard by them. Additionally, the employee that normally works the register does the bare minimum you would expect for someone taking your order at a register. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. I get my order out in in a timely manner, but I get the sense that, while this is a family-run restaurant, they're not necessarily including their patrons as part of that family. I think their main challenge is their drive thru. They seem to have one person working the register, drive thru, and handling incoming phone orders the majority of the times I've come in. I'll never skip out on this place, but I avoid dining in anymore. You don't come for the vibes or service, really just a quick and tasty meal.

When we walked in for a Sunday dinner, we were greeted with the smell of roasting chicken and charcoal, a promising sign from the very start. It was pretty busy inside, but after ordering at the counter, the food only took about 15 minutes to arrive. Whole Chicken Meal ($27.74) - The meal comes with two 12 oz sides, an 8oz salsa, and either corn or flour tortillas. For the sides we went with the classic Mexican Rice and the Refried Beans. Both are pretty standard stuff from a Mexican restaurant. The rice is tender with still distinct grains, has an reddish color from tomatoes, and adds a scant amount of veggies mixed through. The beans are mostly smooth throughout, fatty and creamy. We went with the corn tortillas, of which they provide a whole stack of twelve, warmed until steaming, making them hot, soft, and pliable, perfect to eat with the chicken and sides. The chicken is legitimately amazing. Basically the entire restaurant smells like chicken fat being charred over mesquite. It's a mesmerizing smell that made me salivate upon walking in. The chicken is whole roasted with the dark meat and wings being cooked until succulent and juicy. The interior of the breasts are a bit dry, but there's not much that can be done with this cooking method! Otherwise, the char is excellent, creating an almost crust-like nature to the skin and the spice mix imbues a yellow glow to the entire tray. They give so much food that we only finished perhaps a quarter of it. We ended up bringing the rest home on our drive up the next day and ate it for another couple of meals. (5/5) I especially love their salsa bar off to the side of the main counter. There's so much variety, there's surely something to please anyone. They have a mild tomato, a mild but smoky, a spicy and fruity, a green tangy tomatillo, a creamy avocado, a crunchy fresh pico de gallo, a smoky and spicy, and a tangy and spicy salsa - basically all combinations someone could ask for. Even the spiciest additions are still very tolerable to my tastes. We were impressed enough to visit again the next day for lunch: Supreme Burrito al Pastor ($14.37) - This is hefty burrito, almost Mission-sized, being around 4 inch in diameter with the weight to match. It's first filled with plenty of Mexican rice, same as with the meal. For some reason, this time, the rice is hard and tough, like they had reached down to scrape the bottom of the rice cooker. It would likely be the most coveted portion of rice in a tagine or clay pot, but in a burrito, the toughness doesn't work well. On top of the rice are the refried beans, spooned over intermittently. It adds creaminess and fat to the otherwise dry exterior layers. Then the layer of meat begins - cubed pork, marinated in a savory and sweet sauce, then mixed up with chopped pineapples. It's more adobada than al pastor, and is on the sweeter end of things with the pineapple. The spice mixture isn't the most notable; they definitely focus on the chicken at El Jefe vs. the pork. Veggies, including lettuce and a pico de gallo mix cover the meat, followed by thinly shredded cheese and sour cream, which is thick and rich, perhaps more resembling crema than cream, and some guacamole, tangy and fatty. It's not the most even application - for example, the guac only covers one end of the burrito while the sour cream covers the other end. (4/5) I have to say, the chicken served at EL Jefe Grill is perfection. I would revisit just for that. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms Note: El Jefe charges a 2.9% credit card fee. This is displayed at the register, but they have their POS set up incorrectly. Firstly, they lump the cost into the menu item instead of separating it out into a fee. Secondly, they actually charge a random fee rather than 2.9%. For example, the whole chicken meal is 3.1% and the supreme burrito is 2.7%. Very bizarre. I reported it to their management so hopefully it gets fixed soon.
