Service was a bit slow, but honestly, it was totally worth the wait. We also tried the quesabirrias and wow it was so cheesy, so delicious. Just ugh, I can't stop thinking about them. Their horchata was super tasty too - smooth, sweet, and refreshing. They take credit/debit cards, which is always appreciated. A few months ago, after running errands at Ace Hardware, we decided to stop at Sabor Salvadoreno because we had wanted to try it for awhile. We walked in and immediately noticed that everyone was wearing masks (which was promising) and that they were open for dine-In or take out. We figured we would just do take out, but the server warmly convinced us to dine-in. We looked at each other and said "why not"? It was our first time dining out since March 2020 and everything seemed okay because it wasn't crowded and they had their business together. Their specialty is papusas. The server introduced them all and I decided to try all six of them with a side of plantains. My bf and the server were amazed by my bold decision, but no regrets! The papusas were pretty big so we only finished 3 of them. We also tried their fresh-fruit drink and a Salvadoran style horchata. The plantains came with crema and were very good too. Our server came back and chatted about his travels through Peru. It was a good diversion from the COVID-19 problems of the world. It was great because we left with a heavy box of leftovers and I am glad that the server convinced us to dine in. read more

Genuine place. Right from the get go I knew I was in good hands. Server was SUPER friendly. Then the handformed corn tortilla arrived--steaming hot, shaped and griddled directly before serving. Died and went to heaven right then. Real food on the way. Simple, ancient and correct. Ok, the exterior might have been a tad, scant touch leathery, indicating a griddle set an eight turn high, but no bother. And next came the pupusa queso con loroca. Sooooo glad they have loroca. Sooo long since I have had a proper pupusa. Yum. Oh, it came with a rectangular tupperware of pickled cabbage shredded fine and studded with a few carrots and scattered dried Mexican oregano. Yes! The balance, sister, the balance. The main plate was a mujarra frita (fried tilapia) with rice and beans. All good, fresh tasting, crispy and juicy. My boyfriend and I were visiting from Seattle and, for our last meal before heading back, we decided to check out Sabor Salvadoreño and I'm so glad we did! The food was SO good (the carne asada was my favorite) and the drinks were so tasty and refreshing for such a hot day. The pupusa spot apparently! There is a window near the front door for takeout and then booths further back in the building. Not a lot of space to wait for takeout, but you can step outside if need be. I've tried most of their pupusas and each comes piping hot. It does take longer than some other pupuserias I know of, but maybe I go there during lunch rush. I find their curtido to be a little lacking in crunch. They also bag it in snack Ziploc when getting food togo, which I guess is better than a styrofoam cup. They could do better with enforcing/marking their social distance lines, lots of people jumbled up in the front on our last takeout visit. read more

I knew this place was not the same. Yet I wanted to get Pupusas and atol de elote. We got some Pupusas it took a longggggg time to get the order to go. They are flat as a pancake or hand made quesadilla. It barely has cheese or chicharrón. Honestly i couldn't taste any chicharrón. The topping has not flavor or salt. Had a craving for pupusas the other day and decided to check out Sabor Salvadoreno. I got one of the combo plates that had two pupusas topped with eggs and sauce along with plantains and cream. My mum got the pupusas plate that also had fajita meat and veg. I also got the champurrado. Everything was absolutely fabulous. The favors were fantastic and everything was perfectly cooked. Also the staff were so lovely and welcoming, and were happy to answer all my questions about the different menu items they had! Overall fantastic meal and extremely welcoming service! We visited for a family dinner last weekend and it was my first experience with Salvadoran food other than pupusas. I ordered something less carb heavy, pollo asado. I did not expect to be so wow'ed by their pollo asado. I completely cleared the entire plate, even the beans and I NEVER touch the beans. The rice was ultra flavorful and the plantains were very delicious and well done, too! It was a great meal in a very homey setting. Wait service was very friendly. I think I've finally found the place to satisfy all my pupusa cravings!! This place seems like a family run restaurant and they're doing everything right!! Went here with a coworker for lunch on Thursday and loved everything we ordered. Beware that the portions are super generous, so be prepared to either share or have leftovers for days! I got the combination house plate #1 with the Loroco and cheese pupusa and bean and cheese pupusa and my coworker got the chicken and shrimp combination plate! We also got some fried plantains and empanadas to share as well. All the dishes were excellently prepared and the pupusas were my absolute favorite. HOWEVER, I've been here twice and both times the food was really lacking. I'm Salvadoran from LA so maybe my expectations are just too high. Heres what I got...3 pupusas, 1 queso con loroco ( this one was OK but the loroco wasn't as flavorful as I'm used to), 1 bean and cheese pupusa (bland and dry) and 1 revuelta (DRRRYYY. So dry ). I also got an order of yuca frita. Yuca frita is supposed to be crispy and flakey on the outside and moist and soft on the inside. These were small hard, dry bricks of what seemed like cardboard. The curtido (cabbage slaw) has a strange yellow tinge to it, which I've never seen but it tasted fine. Their tomatoe sauce was actually pretty good and the fruit salad juice was refreshing. With so many good reviews, I was hoping the first time was a fluke but twice??! Even my husband who's a white boy from LA said, "these are the worst pupusas I've ever had" Sadness. read more

Pupusas were on the brain, but we didn't have it in us to trek to 82nd. We looked up what our options were on the westside and landed here. It's in a small strip mall and a bit unassuming despite the random giant chef statue and pupusa flag. We went for 3 pupusas - pork & cheese, cheese & loroco (flower), and chicken & cheese. We also got the La chevere plate with grilled shrimp and chicken (steak is also an option) ($13). The food came quickly and we chowed down. The pupusas come with the usual slaw and 2 sauce bottles, one mild and one hot. All were good. The pupusas were extra stuffed with juicy filling, which was awesome! It felt like a substantial meal at only $2.25 each. The pork one is nice & meaty, but the cheese & loroco is always my fave. The plate threw us because it was so good. Maybe we were also extra hungry after pumpkin patching. The chicken was tender and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. The flavored rice was pilaf like and flavorful. It also came with these awesome homemade tortillas that had little pockets in the middle perfect for dipping in the refried beans and filling with lettuce. 4 TVs in the back portion of the restaurant. 3 with soccer and 1 with Disney channel. The server was friendly too. The only thing that kind of sucked was they overcharged us. We realized after we left. Luckily it was the owner that did it and he refunded us the difference in cash. What happened to this place? This used to go my go-to restaurant for Central American comfort food. I have been coming here since moving to Oregon in 2016. Today, my daughter and I went there, it was relatively busy, but there was a table available. I could sense something was wrong as the two ladies in the table next to us were visibly upset about their order arriving late. We ordered two pupusas and pork ribs (costillas de cerdo), our usual. Half an hour later, they tell me they're out of pork ribs (yes, it took a full 30 minutes before they told me) so I asked for my daughter's order only. Another 30 minutes later, still nothing and we had to leave. Just as I was telling the cashier to give me the check, the pupusas magically appear, half cooked. They threw them in a to-go box and that was it. I know these days businesses are struggling with labor shortages, but this experience was terrible and we will not be coming back. It might be that there's a new administration, the old, eclectic decor is gone, replaced by white lights and random art that tells you it's time go. I will miss what this place used to be. read more

What I ended up with was really great food and awesome friendly service! This small restaurant is kind of tucked away and is easy to pass by unnoticed, but it's a great gem of an eatery. I ordered Pollo Asado(like chicken fajitas) and a mixed filling Pupusas(think of a savory pancake with filling of cheese or meat or both!). Hours close down early now because the place is a ghost town. Chips and salsa are garbage. Half the chips were stale and rock hard. Shrimp sucked, tasted awful and I think it might have been old. Smelled really fishy. They don't make the taquitos anymore. We ordered two of the same thing. One plate had a pepper, no lime. The other had a lime, no pepper. Carne asada tasted semi okay but the rice tasted like rice a roni. WTF?! So disgusting. I will never eat here again.
