    Shrimp Paredes

My friend and I had the Alubias Pulpo (Octopus), Shrimp Paredes, Mediterranean Salad, and Bak Lava, each dish was perfectly cooked and delicious! The chef finished cooking the flambee in the Schrimp with a flame at our table-very nice, extravagant touch! See picture. The texture of the Alubias was like salmon-not the usual octopus/calamari texture-and it was very good! We loved that the Bak Lava was not too sweet but delicious! Our server was very kind and respectful! We'll be back, for sure!

Welcoming and warm, I sat at the bar on a Thursday evening at 8pm. Half the tables were full as well as half the bar. No wine available as they are eagerly awaiting their alcohol permit from Sacramento. I ordered the Branzino (fish). The babaganoush is fresh and smokey, just as it should be. The sweet potato hummus with crème fraiche is a supple surprise with a very delicate flavor that could be over powered by the pita so I recommend using a spoon to taste. The fish was blackened and combined well with all the flavors and brought a nice contrast of texture. Even the crouton was delicious!

Ali, our server and part-owner was so nice and extremely accommodating. We could not eat everything on the menu and will return to try more things! We loved the fava bean and pita starter and then shared moussaka and the kefta entrees. Both were excellent. My husband liked the Greek wine and I asked if they had a Turkish yogurt drink (yran) and Ali went back to the kitchen and provided this off-the-menu beverage! For dessert I asked if they had my favorite Turkish dessert, kunife, and Ali went back to the kitchen from where it magically appeared The chef is Turkish and the other co-owner is Greek. My host opened the door and I opted to sit outside as it was a beautiful day. Lamb shanked is Mezzeluna specialty and that's what I ordered. Unfortunately, my hostess didn't bring me a wine list but said she will grab one. Despite the mixed up, she was really sweet and complimented me on my wine selection. The lamb shank was fork tender and cooked perfectly with a nice gravy over mash potato. If I'm ever back in Cotati, I will go back to try out some of their skewers and hummus.

Sam's is just so good, I want to be sure everyone knows about it so it will stay in business and who knows, maybe expand to where they'll someday have that dine-in ambience and a great view and be your fave restaurant for dining out. He let us sample hummus and baba gannouj which were excellent!!! Highly recommend the baba gannouj! He was very patient with us and allowed us to customize our orders to fit our dietary restraints. I really appreciate that! Do be patient because it takes time for him to make everything by himself, but it's worth it!!! Falafel Wrap $16.95 (10/5 stars) - swapped out the hummus for baba gannouj which I recommend, there are so many flavors working in harmony and everything tastes fresh, the veggies were so nice and crisp, the falafel was well seasoned Beef Gyro Shawarma Plate $25.95 (10/5) - my partner reported that this was excellent especially the grilled Lavash bread, perfectly crispy, the interior was perfectly balanced and delicious Baklava $6.99 for 2 (10000000/5) - I have eaten so much baklava and this is the best I've ever had, the separate top layer of just the filo pastry without the honey is genius, so you get a perfect crunch ratio to the part soaked in honey, if you have to get 1 thing I recommend this Arabic/Turkish Coffee (5/5 stars) - it was on the house which next time he better let me pay, this is what coffee should taste like, none of that water down American coffee, straight coffee in it's purest densest form, no additives or spices, pure shot of coffee Overall, he got 2 new customers.

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, I visited and was promptly seated and served. I enjoyed a romaine salad, my son enjoyed the mac & cheese - his favorite anywhere - and I had a burger with fries. The burger came with white cheddar cheese and bacon, with chipotle ketchup, regular ketchup, and aïoli on the side. I had a glass of Chardonnay, and the wine list is what you would expect from a Sonoma County restaurant. By the bottle or by the glass you are assured of a good selection. Nothing you order here will disappoint you. The dining room is a rustic space with a lot of wood appointments. There's a nice long classic bar. And there's an outdoor patio where you can eat and enjoy the beautiful weather. If you're anywhere near the place, you owe it to yourself to visit Underwood or a lovely lunch or dinner. Worth noting though: it gets very noisy. The menu offers an interesting mix of Thai and French cuisine - not quite fusion, but rather two distinct menus side by side. Think of it as a safe bet for groups with different cravings. The portions are decent and the prices are in line with typical Bay Area standards - not a bargain, but not outrageous either. Unfortunately, what brought my rating down to three stars was the service. For a relatively simple meal - oysters to start and one entrée each - the pacing was surprisingly slow. We waited nearly 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared, another 10 for the dessert menu, and after an additional 15-minute wait we ended up canceling dessert altogether, as the evening had stretched to two hours and we had a long drive ahead. To be fair, the tables around us seemed to have a smoother experience, so perhaps we caught them on an off night. I'd like to give them another shot, but I'm leaving with mixed feelings that honestly reflect a three-star experience - great bones, but the service needs work.

This place is very popular so I would recommend making reservations in advance, especially if you are going on the weekend. It has a warm and inviting ambiance and the staff are really friendly. The food was delicious. I had the Little Gem salad and a slice of my husband's pizza. Both were delicious. They have a lot of options appetizers, pizzas, and main dishes. They have options for their pizzas like a gluten free crust and vegan cheese. I also love that this is a family owned restaurant since I much prefer these types of restaurants over corporately owned ones. Highly recommend!

The prices are very reasonable for the quality, with entrées typically ranging from $30-$50. We always start with the Brussels sprouts--they're our must-have favorite. This time, I ordered the halibut while my husband chose the ribeye, and both dishes were outstanding. The halibut was perfectly seasoned, and the fresh tomatoes that came with it burst with flavor in every bite. I usually go for the half chicken (which is also fantastic), but I'm so glad I tried the halibut this time. One detail I really appreciated was the owner coming by to check in--it made the experience feel even more personal. Reservations are highly recommended. We were seated right away when we arrived about 5 minutes before our 6pm reservation time. Hazel's has a smaller menu that's part of the charm--every option feels carefully crafted, so you don't get decision fatigue. Hazel's sundae was also a great dessert treat after a delicious meal. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience.
