    Chef delivering Saganaki!
    Scott M.

We had heard about Alesta opening, and were excited to give it a try! Greek/Middle Eastern cuisine is a favorite, so we didn't wait to get in there and give them a try! The menu is a mix of Italian, Greek, Turkish, and other influences. The Chef came out and talked with us and told us about his inspiration for the dishes. He is from Istanbul, and pulled flavors from around the area to put together the menu for Alesta. We tried to do a tour, while also trying some new dishes. We started with a delicious beet, orange, and walnut salad. We followed this with our entrees - which were Moussaka (eggplant and potato dish with meat sauce and bechamel) and the Iskender (shaved beef with zesty tomato sauce) and pita. These were both delicious! Fresh and well prepared! We finished with the saganaki - though it is not necessarily a desert, we felt it fit better at the end of the meal. It is served flaming - which is a treat. Chef served us Turkish tea at the end of the meal - which was a perfict finale. If you have a taste for Mediterranean food - Alesta brings an authentic view of the richness of these varying cuisines! They are a great new addition to Sonoma County!

My friend and I had the Alubias Pulpo (Octopus), Shrimp Paredes, Mediterranean Salad, and Bak Lava, each dish was perfectly cooked and delicious! The chef finished cooking the flambee in the Schrimp with a flame at our table-very nice, extravagant touch! See picture. The texture of the Alubias was like salmon-not the usual octopus/calamari texture-and it was very good! We loved that the Bak Lava was not too sweet but delicious! Our server was very kind and respectful! We'll be back, for sure!

Babaganoush (left) and Sweet Potato Hummus

Welcoming and warm, I sat at the bar on a Thursday evening at 8pm. Half the tables were full as well as half the bar. No wine available as they are eagerly awaiting their alcohol permit from Sacramento. I ordered the Branzino (fish). The babaganoush is fresh and smokey, just as it should be. The sweet potato hummus with crème fraiche is a supple surprise with a very delicate flavor that could be over powered by the pita so I recommend using a spoon to taste. The fish was blackened and combined well with all the flavors and brought a nice contrast of texture. Even the crouton was delicious!

Overall the food tasted great but value varied by dish... pad Thai was great value, but ravioli was poor value with only 6 pieces. The desserts were excellent too. We had the chocolate cake and the Meyer lemon panna cotta. Both yummy. Service was good. They were checking on us every few minutes to make sure we had everything. Food came out in a decent time. The noise level was LOUD inside so be prepared. If it's nice out, you can opt in for the outdoor patio area, which might be a bit quieter. Overall, I recommend it for all in the area.

Worth noting though: it gets very noisy. The menu offers an interesting mix of Thai and French cuisine - not quite fusion, but rather two distinct menus side by side. Think of it as a safe bet for groups with different cravings. The portions are decent and the prices are in line with typical Bay Area standards - not a bargain, but not outrageous either. Unfortunately, what brought my rating down to three stars was the service. For a relatively simple meal - oysters to start and one entrée each - the pacing was surprisingly slow. We waited nearly 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared, another 10 for the dessert menu, and after an additional 15-minute wait we ended up canceling dessert altogether, as the evening had stretched to two hours and we had a long drive ahead. To be fair, the tables around us seemed to have a smoother experience, so perhaps we caught them on an off night. I'd like to give them another shot, but I'm leaving with mixed feelings that honestly reflect a three-star experience - great bones, but the service needs work.
