the alex theatre was a great venue to see Richard dawkins and sam Harris. you either had to park on the street or in one of the parking structures. which is not really that far away. the place was very clean. staff was very nice. the history is the building was great. I believe they said 1400 people filled the venue. And they didn't rip you off for the refreshments, really good prices. even had beer and wine, how could you go wrong. the cookies were very good as well. read more

I thought this place was alright. Went here to see an old movie/show with a group of friends, and my experience was so-so, it could've been worse and it could've been better, but honestly, I can't give it more than an average rating. I know Alex Theater has been a fixture in Glendale and there's some history there, but what does it have to do with my visit? ...I can't say much regarding this establishment because we literally rushed out right after the show so I never got to hang around. read more

I came to see Billy Elliot here. This was my first time to the theatre. Oh I loved it and wish they had more Broadway shows here or just more of a variety shows. The place is small so there is no bad seats. The entrance is pretty cool. read more

I hadn't been to this venue in ages, even though it's an institution of Glendale. I know it's used for a whole slew of things, from theater performances to cultural dance events and graduations. I came here to see Phil Jackson speak with John Salley as the host. Here are its pros and cons... PROS - Beautiful venue, many seats - Decent sound acoustics - Not too big--great for "talks" and that kind of event*** - Snacks from Porto's...ahhh take my money, you evil people! CONS - Picking up tickets from a table with jagged/disorganized lines outside prior to the event? Most people also just tried to cut so they could run in, as it was first-come, first-serve with seating (for the most part). Why not just issue the actual ticket after it's purchased so people can walk in as they arrive? - Theater staff was a little annoying up in the balcony...You can see just as well standing close to the stairwell/door, or just move 2 feet over so you're not blocking the speaker on center stage. We moved up to a higher row for a better view. - I work nearby so parking was not an issue. I walked a friend back to her car though, after the event, and seems like that parking lot was quite confusing with its weird half-floors. Better labeling of each level would be helpful, especially to a young woman walking back to her car at night. This may not have much to do with Alex Theater though, and more to do with whoever owns the parking lot. All in all, I loved this event, and the earlier hassles were a distant memory by the end of the event. I even got to meet John Salley, since he was just wandering in the lobby talking to people. Nice that the theater staff weren't forced to sequester him away or something. read more

I came here over the holiday break to see the cartoon festival with Mightly Mouse, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker and my new favorite Boing Boing boy. It was great! We came here for "The Haunting" last night. Great, "old school" style theater and beautiful inside.

Just got back from a performace of the Nutcracker which was outstanding. The Alex is a beautiful old theatre. I purchased the tickets last minute and I was stuck with balcony seats. Luckily, the theatre seating is set up so just about every seat has a great view. The cost of the tickets were more than reasonable. Parking was abundant and easy. The location makes it a perfect place to make dinner plans before or after the show. There are numerous amounts of restaurants within walking distance. Will definitely come again. read more

This theater is a jewel. Like being in Hollywood, but without the crowds or traffic. We've seen concerts here and the viewing and seating are great. LA Chamber orchestra is a favorite. read more

What a great theatre. Standing since the 20's, it still goes strong, offering old movies, stage shows, and other events, and still attracting large crowds. It recently played "The Forbidden Planet", along with an actor's panel. It will be followed up in November with the Three Stooges moviethon. What a great place to get a feeling for old Hollywood. read more

We've been coming here for years to see films, especially their annual Three Stooges (Yes!) event. We've always liked the theater and the interesting array of live and film events that they put on. The inside is a classical golden age of movie palaces type of place. I hope that they are able to continue for many years to come. read more

Fantastic venue. Street parking was ok, I did see public parking close by. Walking distance to a great variety of places to eat. The venue itself has been renovated, beautifuly done. Small, but not a bad seat in the house. I have to mention that public venues ALWAYS need more facilities for the Lady, if you time your visit, this shouldn't ba a problem here. The Alex felt like many of the older theatres in the UK, very comfy, the only thing missing were the ice cream vendors at intermission. We'd love to attend another performance here again. It was WONDERFUL not having to go into LA. read more

This is a great old theatre. We saw John Cleese (of Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and A Fish Called Wanda fame) there last night. He was great and we were VERY impressed with the theatre. Lovingly restored, great open air arcade between the box office and theatre entrance itself. And the PARKING STRUCTURE IS BS!! A genuine scam. They give you 4 hours for $1. Great, right? We parked at 7:17 because you are supposed to go to will call by 7:30. The show ended promptly at 10:30. We went straight to the car and didn't get out until 11:25!! 55 freaking minutes to get out of a parking lot. They decided to add insult to injury and charged us overtime!! It is easier to get out of Staples or the Home Depot Center than this place. And no harder to get out of Dodger Stadium!! Never, Never Never, Never Park In The Structure @ California and Orange. NEVER!!!! There are $3 structures and $1/hr., 3 hr. limit meters that expire @ 10 PM. Use those options. NEVER attend an event that dumps all of those people into that structure. What a fiasco. REVISION: The people at the Alex took my email complaint very seriously. They put me in touch w/ City of Glendale and parking company officials who explained that this was an isolated and very regretable incident. They are taking steps to see it won't happen again. Based on the fantastic venue itself and their serious, personal response, I will definitely give the Alex another chance! read more

I came here to see a band preform live. Alex Theatre facilities and decor really impressed me. I thought it was a museum when I first entered the building. It looks nothing like a performance hall. Since it was night time, I didn't get a chance to explore the entire place. I will definitely go back during the day time and get a good look at the architecture. read more

I was disappointed in the Alex Theatre staff for the Brad Williams event last weekend. I've been to the Alex many times and thought the staff they used to have was always great. But the last two times I went, there were no ushers and the ones they had were not helpful at all. I saw one girl yelling at the people working in the concession booth. I thought she was very unprofessional to being yelling in front of customers. I couldn't find the House Manager to complain but I didn't like seeing that. read more

I've never been to the Alex Theater but when Neil Gaiman announced his book signing there, I jumped at the chance! Come on- its freakin Neil Gaiman! So we are told to arrive at 4pm to get our tickets and since we wanted good seats, we arrive early. Since we aren't the first person so think of this clever idea, we all start to form a line and we are all chatting away happily. Then come the staff. Our line is moved, and this goes smoothly since we have all met other fans and we all politely change our line...but we are put in the sun. It's over 100 degrees outside- we were dying! Then because a rude fan showed up and yelled at a staff member, things changed. People in the back of the line are told different info then the people that have waited for a long time and they all cut ahead of us. All because some rude girl bitched that she didn't want to stand in line, we lost our chance at good seats. I was very disappointed in this because I wanted the staff member to be kind and firm about the rules that were in place- everyone else in line was respectful and understood. Once we got to the ticket counter, we got our tickets (no issues here) and then we picked up the books we had ordered. I even bought an additional book and the guys behind the counter were amazing. We got in another line and began chatting away again. Then we went into the reception area and were saved by amazing air conditioning! We all hovered by the entrance doors and struck up a conversation with the floor supervisor. I didn't get his name but I will say that he was a beacon of light compared to all the other staff we had encountered. Very sweet and helpful. The doors opened and we were able to get seats in the front row. The stage was set up nicely. The chairs were uncomfortable, but I wasn't going to complain much because I had been standing for 3 hours straight by this time. During the discussion, the computer they used for the PowerPoint kept announcing that their computer needed a virus update and that they were at a high risk. This was ridiculous since there was no presentation on the PowerPoint. It was very distracting. The actual talk with Gaiman was amazing and I loved it. I had the worst human being next to me with her cell phone, but since that has nothing to do with this review, I will spare you. After he speaks, we are told that we will come to the stage row by row for the book signing. Anyone with mobility issues were taken care of first, along with parents of small children and pregnant women. This is all announced clearly and people are following directions well. Then again, enter the staff and this all goes to shit. We are told that the first row will be seen so we all stand and wait by the stage. After 20 minutes or so, Neil hasn't come back out but select people in the audience kept being brought back stage. It was obvious that friends of staff were being given special treatment. I wish it wasn't flaunted at us. Then we are told to sit back down and another group of people are put ahead of us. It was chaos. Finally, Neil arrives and begins to sign. Our books are out and we are asked to open them to the page we want signed. Another staff member (there were at least 7-8 onstage) asks us to stack our books so it's easy for him to sign. No problem. Then the next staff member grabs our books and begins switching things around. My friend's book, a very expensive edition of Sandman was manhandled and mistreated by this guy. My book was creased and the guy behind me, a book collector, his book was grabbed by staff and torn. They had to come out with a replacement! First rule with book lovers- hands off our books. We only trust people that respect them- these staff were extremely disrespectful with our merchandise and ruined several books in my line of sight. The staff surrounding Gaiman were even worse. They kept distracting him so that we didn't even get to say a word to him. One lady kept kissing his face and other staff just kept talking to him. It ruined the experience of meeting him because we didn't get to meet him. So sad. We were allowed to take pictures of him signing but if we even pulled out the camera, we were yelled at for taking up too much space and wasting time. My friend didn't get to take pictures of my signing because she was yelled at to get off the stage. So unreasonable! We left with a dirty taste in our mouth. Seeing Neil Gaiman was an experience never to forget! However, I'm looking forward to forgetting about the Alex Theater and it's disgusting staff. read more

I have been coming to LACO and LA Ballet at your theatre for years. I love the theatre and the ushers are always helpful. You used to sell Brownies at your Concession stands but this year I noticed that you took them off the menu. Also, sometimes you don't have any food left at intermission. You should do a better job of stocking product for people or else allow people to bring in their own food. read more

First time here with my family for the from Peru to the World show and I'm not pleased at all. Actually pretty disappointed. The theater is nice however very small. People are out of control with having conversations,taking selfies while the show is on, loud and constantly on their devices. Food and drinks are allowed in the theater which made it messy. No ushers around to settle the crowd or ask to turn off their devices or their FLASH and stop recording! Alex theater has no control over their guest, no house keeping reminders/ rules. read more

Not happy with the policies and ethics of the Alex Theatre management. would recommend that producers look elsewhere to screen movie premieres. I would give the venue a minus 10 for honesty and professionalism. read more
