I had Dr Irene do my routine cleaning for the first time. I had a horrible experience and will not be coming back. After a very excessive 14 x rays taken, no more than 10 minutes were actually spent cleaning my teeth. Most of which Time was spent with me in serious pain, both because she was extremely aggressive with her tool at my gumline which caused a lot of bleeding, and because her equipment kept giving me an ear shattering frequency feedback while in my mouth which she did not seem to care about. She was working extremely fast like she was in a rush to get out of there. Didn't even floss my teeth. I absolutely do not recommend coming here. read more

I never write bad reviews since I know how harmful they are for a small business. But this place is so unprofessional and unethical that I would feel bad not to warn other people. I shouldn't have come back after my initial consultation but it wasn't easy to find a new practice during COVID. Dr Alex is the rudest doctor I have ever dealt with. During a consultation he made a nasty and inappropriate comment about my lips which has nothing to do with my teeth. I felt like I was bullied. Dr Irene forgot to prescribe me antibiotics after a dental surgery with her, only a week after I was able to get them (this neglect caused sinus problems) During my last visit she left me in the chair in the middle of a treatment to pickup a phone call. She was yelling at (I assume) a patient and threatening that person that she would send their bill to collectors. I had to find a new dentist after all these unpleasant experiences since I didn't feel comfortable going there anymore. But had to contact them again recently to request my old X-ray, (since my current dentist was concerned about a surgical procedure I had at their office) I received an email saying that their system crashed and they lost ALL the patients X-rays. So unprofessional but not surprising at all. I had to file an official complaint. read more

I went there 3 times (cleaning, filling, adjustment for same filling). I felt invalidated each time. During the cleaning, I expressed the way it was being done was painful (scraping against my gums). I was told it was my gums that were sensitive (I've seen many dentists and never experienced this pain before). For my filling, I expressed concern around my nerve being incorrectly impacted (another dentist did this and caused me to need a root canal because the nerve died). I was told it wouldn't happen and dismissed. Treated rough during the process even. For the adjustment, I felt sensitivity to temperature and when I chew post the filling (something that never happens except for once with the tooth where the nerve ended up dying because I didn't speak up sooner). I was told it was a normal filling and that sensitivity is normal. I felt like disagreeing wouldn't take me anywhere because I've been shut down in all other instances. I'm just switching providers point blank, unfortunately. Dental assistants are kind and they tried to be helpful at the front desk. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that their intentions are good. But my dental experience was just below average every single time (rough treatment, unreceptive to my feedback, not much friendliness honestly from dentist). read more

I wish Yelp really had the option of giving zilch stars. Really do. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I never made it past the waiting area to see the dentist. As a matter of fact, I got up and left. The lack of professionalism and discreetness was not only mind boggling but disgusting. I used to work in an office and I was always told by my boss "my employees represent who I am. Be professional and I expect a lot from all of you (the employees)." So I am going to guess Dr. Bokser never gave a talk to his employees or he just doesn't care about his practice. What happened? Here goes! Upon my arrival for my appointment, I was greeted nicely by the front desk person. She showed me the paper work I need to fill out and that was about it. While I filling out the forms, the staff was talking pretty loud for a VERY small office. What were they talking about? ALS, celebrity gossip, and tampons. I thought to myself "whatever Geo, get over it. Not everyone is perfect." When I went to hand my forms to the receptionist, she asked if I had insurance and I stated to her that my insurance hasn't kicked in yet BUT I WILL BE PAYING CASH. I'd rather pay to have my toothache gone than wait for my insurance kick on. My appointment was for 12:30 pm (mind you I showed up 10 mins early to fill out the forms since I was a new patient) and I had yet to be seen or told when the dentist was going to see me. While waiting to be seen, within earshot I hear the receptionist state to one of the employees/DAs "her insurance hasn't kicked in. I hope she has money to pay". First of all, I do have money to pay. If I didn't have money to pay, I wouldn't be there to begin with. Second of all, if you are going to talk about a patient, DO NOT DO IT WITHIN EARSHOT OF THE PATIENT! Go to another room. Lastly, (and I have to cap this) DO NOT JUDGE/TALK ABOUT A PATIENT UNTIL THEY HAVE PAID OR WERE SEEN BY THE DENTIST. Was it really necessary to do that? Not only is that tacky and high school-ish but VERY unprofessional. Unfortunately, I never got the name of the receptionist but she was an older lady with hair to the chin. The minute I heard her state the above, I went up, asked for my paper work, and left. I would rather stick with a toothache than give money to a dentist who employs judgmental staff. I have nothing to say about the dentist and I hope his staff is not a reflection of him or his work ethic. To the staff, you have no right to judge patients and what is in their pocket. You are there to work for the dentist. Not determine whether someone can or cannot afford services. As for the raving reviews on here, they are either staff or friends of staff since other sites have mixed reviews about the dentist and the staff (*GASP* Shocking right?!?! *Sarcasm*) read more

Chose this dentist based on the great reviews, what a mistake!!!! Was greeted nicely by the receptionist who gave forms to be completed. When I made the appointment the ask & I gave the reason for the visit. Which in this case was a consultation for extensive dental work with X-rays for $75. (Have email to prove price given). Then when the dentist comes comes into the exam room asked extremely arrogantly "what are on here for"!!!! Seriously !!!! I'm here to chat or for coffee (thinking sarcastically in my mind)! #1 I told the receptionist when making the appointment #2 WTF do you think I'm here for?!, to fix my teeth! Then after telling the dentist I'm there for an exam for extensive dental work, he ordered the assistant to prep me & gave a different price of $200.00 for the exam, plus the cost of x-rays is extra!!!! This review is for my visits to both Dr. Irene Bokser (periodontist) and Dr. Alexander Bokser. I started first with Dr. Irene Bokser for an implant. She is great, professional, efficient and trustworthy (she also holds teaching positions at both NYU College of Dentistry and NY Hospital Queens). Dr. Bokser seems to run a tight ship at the office and she is quite sassy. The same awesomeness and clinical skills applies to Dr. Alexander Bokser, who worked on the crown. He also gave me a thorough examination and caught some alarming issues that needed to be addressed. The staff at the practice are wonderful, they make your visit as pleasant as possible. One of the best things about this practice is that I never have to wait much. The appointments tend to start on time-- they are on their A game in scheduling patients, this makes me feel that they value my time too as much as they value theirs. I feel that Drs. Bokser and the staff care for their patients and try to do their best. I have gotten follow up calls: reminder to take my pre-procedural prophylaxis and to see how I am doing after certain visits. I, unfortunately, have to go to the dentist a lot. But I feel pretty lucky to have Drs. Bokser in the neighborhood. read more

I sent my parents to Dr. Alexander based on the great YELP reviews. The first visit proved true, my parents love the cleaning and check up and the service. Unfortunately on the second visit, my Dad got "hustled" by the Dr. He insisted that my Dad get treatment that would cost close to $20 grand!! This was after knowing he had heart surgery the year before and he is under careful watch by his cardiologist. I've been a patient since 2013. I'm really scared of going to the dentist, largely due to negative past experiences at other offices. Luckily, Dr. Bokser is very quick, thorough and there are never any problems with the work he has done. Because of medical mistakes made by previous dentists I had a range of things that needed to be done, so I can really vouch for Dr. Bokser's talent and competence. This office develops a relationship with their patient and the staff makes sure that all your dental needs are covered on a regular basis. Also, the office itself is clean, up to date and there is no wait. They're quite accommodating if you need to have an appointment on short notice and they will see you on the same day if there is an emergency. I love this dentistry.. I feel so lucky to have this wonderful office close by to where i live. First of all, both Dr. Alex and Dr. Irene are tremendous doctors..they take their time to answer your questions and address your concerns.. I had a graft procedure with Dr. Irene which went very smooth..i always do my cleaning with Dr. Alex and it took around 10min due to his excellent skills and their superb tools..mind you, it took 45min of painful session at my old dentist just for cleaning. Dr. Irene even stopped by to check up on me to see how my tooth and gum looked after the graft procedure, when i visited for my cleaning. They have the latest technology for their equipments..Xray didnt take more than 2mins..the office is very cozy, clean, and very hygiene. Yes, it is a small office; however, all of the staffs are super friendly and they treated their patients like family, starting with lovely Artemis at the front desk..i always receive a reminder phone call a day before an appointment..the office is very easy to reach out to, to make any appointments. No holding on the line for 30min until you can talk to someone. Artemis always helps you dealing with your insurance questions regarding coverage. P.S.: they have a new machine for teeth bleaching procedure which uses LED. I have never done teeth bleaching because i am afraid that it will hurt my sensitive teeth, but Dr. Irene said that with this new technology, it will not hurt. I've been having a throbbing/numbing pain I've been scared to identify for the past few weeks. Last week friday I decided enough is enough so I googled the best dentists in my area that carry my insurance. Here's where I found these guys. Saturday morning I decided to swing by and take a look, if I liked what I saw it would make an appt. Luckily they are located around the corner from my apt, so that was a huge bonus! I was greeted by a friendly lady who I decided to set up an appointment with. The place is very clean and has a fresh vibe. So far I was happy! Today I went in and yes I was kinda nervous bc I was gonna find out why I had such tooth pain, like it or not! The same friendly lady was at the front, she definately represented the staff and doctors well, because they were all lovely! I felt comfortable with everyone and they were all very kind, they were sensitive to when they did my cleaning and I was in a little pain, and they listened when I wanted to explain things. Dr. Irene was extremely friendly and easy to talk to, as was Dr. Alexander. They were extremely knowledgeable and gave me good, confident advice! I was very pleased at their friendly, professional, confident service. And I will be recommending them to people I know in the neighborhood! read more

I moved to New York two years ago and needed to find a dentist. Looking through Yelp, my husband and I decided to try Dr. Bokser. Well, it went great! Dr. Alexander is amazing, he is quick and it makes you feel comfortable. His staff is amazing, from the receptionists and the dentist assistants, everyone is very professional. I also had an appoint with Dr. Irene for a wisdom tooth extraction and this woman is amazing! I didn't feel pain or discomfort when she gave me the anesthesia shot. Honestly, the best experience I ever had with a dentist. The staff is truly great. Artemis, the incredibly friendly and helpful receptionist, calmed my nerves as soon as I walked in by laughing at my (admittedly) cheesy jokes and handling and explaining the interaction with my dental insurance company. After a very, very brief wait, Dr. Alex was able to see me (slightly ahead of my scheduled appointment, I should add). I don't like going to the dentist as probably most people but when we found this cabinet based on Yelp reviews me and my wife decided to go and try it , we made a great choice and I am very happy with everyone working there . I had to fix 6 really tricky cavities that I thought some of them would need root canals but Dr. Alex Bokser managed to fix them perfect with very little pain, no need of root canals and for a great price . I had 3 fillings done from him, but I had to redo 2 of them. Thumbs up for being able to get in for exam and cleaning the same day; a courteous and efficient front desk staff; a clean, inviting office; and no wait time. Thumbs down for a dentist who didn't introduce himself (though, to be fair, did say, "How are you?"), who told me we would skip the polishing and do it when I came back for a scaling (a procedure not yet authorized by my insurance), and a shelf full of Invisalign boxes bearing patients' full names at eye level from my exam chair (a HIPAA violation). I have been googling for all of them and will say that I've had a 100% success rate with all the reviews through Yelp, Zoc Doc and Health Grades. Dr. Alexander Bokser is great. Very friendly and personable. I mean, who doesn't hate going to the dentist? It's so much easier when the staff is amazing and the office is clean. From the moment I walked into the door to the moment I left, everyone was great. My dental hygienist was very friendly and professional. She did a great job without leaving my gums inflamed in pain. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the 30th Ave stop, so it is very convenient from the train station. I'm so glad I found Dr. Bokser and his staff! Will be referring people to come here. read more

I had an excellent experience @ Dr. Bokser's office. I made an appointment last moment and the receptionist actually "created" a time slot for me at 8:45 am on Saturday; then, she called me back and told me that if I want, I can come at 11:30, which was very thoughtful. The office is very clean with modern equipment and the doctor is very knowledgeable and pleasant. He tells you what you need done but doesn't pressure you to have it done. Basically, you get a "treatment plan" with all the prices and then YOU decide what you need and what you can afford. I would definitely come back and recommend him to others. read more

He tells you whatever you need to be done with your teeth, not like some others that tells you only the problems that your insurance does not pay because they want only cash. I tried to find a place closer to me (see review of Sunnyside Dental...one star), and after the terrible experience I had there, I came rushing back. It's absolutely worth the 35 minute trip over! Athena, the receptionist, is so kind and always accommodating. The dental hygienists are professional and friendly, and Dr. Bokser is funny and gentle. This place will charge you an arm and a leg to fix a tooth. I have paid $1,000 out of my own pocket and my insurance company paid the other $1,000 for a root canal, post and crown and to fill 2 cavities. There are plenty of other places that do fine work without looking at you like you have a dollar sign over your head and trying to get the max they can out of you. Incompatible office vibe. Within the first 10 minutes while waiting to be seen, the wife, Irene, told someone in her staff that Vladimir Putin should come to the United States and would "keep people in line". As a progressive who cares about politics that was an immediate red flag but I had to get my bad tooth extracted, it was pretty much an emergency. But besides that she was rude to her receptionist, maybe they're use to her demeanor but it's not a good look from the outside. She has sort of an abrasive personality. She was very in a rush, I don't know where she had to be but she was in a hurry. As for the husband, Alexander, he was inconsiderate about my financial concerns when it came to my insurance. He explained to me how I should get a bone graft with the extraction, which was important and I did get it, but at first I was concerned about whether it would be covered by my insurance and he immediately disregarded it saying "I don't care about your insurance, I'm just telling you about your issues!" So like, okay, cool, but you're not paying my bills, I am. So that was weird. Then while checking out Irene mentioned how people should be working by now, kind of implying that people are being too lazy to work. I obviously don't agree but before hearing that I knew I wouldn't come back. Their dental work was solid, they got the job done for sure. But the office atmosphere and the interactions were off putting. And politics shouldn't really be discussed in the workplace, but if you feel proud to voice your opinions at work in front of your patients, don't be surprised if your patients don't agree and are therefore uncomfortable with using your services. Another thing, I saw on their website, why don't they take any government insurances? Not up for servicing poorer people I can't help but assume. I'm not sure why their reviews are so high, it is why I picked them. But after my appointment I read their lower reviews and they share similar concerns I had so I'm not the only one. I'm guessing they have a lot of conservative minded patients or patients that don't care. Unfortunately I do, and a shame, they're really close to where I live. read more

I HATE the dentist. However, my experience with this Doctor was far better than most I've had in the past. My cleaning and exam were far from the horrible scraping, bleeding experience I have come to expect from these things, and when they found a cavity they made an appointment for the following week and the doctor took care of it with a bare minimum of pain and inconvenience. Last week I took my 3 year old son to the Dr. Bokser office for the first time. Although my son is not a hard cookie when it comes to doctors visits, Dr. Irene could examine and clean his teeth without any problem. At the end of our visit she asked whether he would come back to her, he answered YES (not an easy decision for a 3 year old). This office is equally good for adults as well as for children. Irene Bokser is excellent. I had this growth in the back of my mouth where my left side wisdom tooth used to be. I decided I needed oral surgery to fix it. I went on to the site YELP and searched for a Periodontist near my house with good ratings. Dr. Bokser came up. I called the office and explained my needs to them over the phone, and asked them when I could come in. They said today! That was great. They sent me a text message to confirm my appointment when I responded they sent me a link to ZocDocs. On the way to their office I filled out all of my info on my iPhone. When I got there they took me right in and did the X-Rays and then the oral surgery to remove the growth on my gums and I was out of there in 40 minutes feeling almost no pain. This dentist is an ACE in her craft. I am very glad I found her and will continue to use her. read more
