    apple caramel souffle
    April Y.

Came for a birthday celebration and got the 4 course tasting menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is classic and dated in a refined way[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and staff was very attentive. The 4 course tasting menu was nice in the sense that you can choose for each course (except the first starter bite course), and we chose different items to try more dishes/share. We opted for the uni/crab souffle (each), duck and coulotte for entrees, and black sesame passion and caramel apple souffle for dessert. Also got the crispy eggplant as an additional side. Honestly, everything was pretty underwhelming/on the saltier end. The uni/crab souffle was pretty cloying and hard to really taste the uni/crab amidst the fondue. Entrees were ok, but not impressive. Dessert wise, the black sesame passion pastries were a bit dense, and the souffle was too cloyingly sweet. The crispy eggplant may have been our favorite out of all the dishes. Our cocktail drinks were really solid (pink is the new black + allegory) and a highlight of the meal. We were also pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary champagne for the birthday celebration, though it would have been nice to receive this at the start of the meal rather than the very end. Note: we were unpleasantly surprised that the water was extra $9 in the final tab (we were not given any other options/heads up beforehand)

After a tough anniversary dinner in September, Jeffrey was kind enough to reach out and ask us for more details about our experience to better understand the lapses in service. My partner and I really valued his genuine intent to close that gap and improve the experience for future diners. We returned to try the Spring menu, and it was a delight. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant's ambience felt polished, warm, and extremely professional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The canapés were delicious, and the beef tartare with green goddess dressing was easily the best bite of the night. The brioche-crusted lingcod had a lovely texture, beautifully paired with the delicate vegetables and sauce. The coulotte was my personal favorite, especially with the arrowhead cabbage and fermented green garlic accompaniment. I removed one star from the rating because the sauces for both the lingcod and coulotte were not my favorite. The charred scallion sauce was certainly smoky, but it carried an acrid taste. I love charred meat and grilled flavors, but the degree of concentration of that charred flavor bordered on carcinogenic. I understand that may have been the intention, though my partner did not enjoy that aspect and let me take his course home. The sauce for the lingcod lacked flavor, as it wasn't outwardly lemony or fragrant enough to complement the fish and courgette. I appreciate that the PH is always creating new sauces to keep their menu interesting. During my visit, these particular sauces fell a little flat for me. PH seemed to read our minds and kindly brought out the desserts we were most excited to try. The lemon tart was classically made and wonderfully tart. The black sesame passion dessert was delicious on its own, but paired perfectly with the S'mores dessert. I love chocolate and passionfruit together and took every opportunity to combine the two. I thoroughly enjoyed my second experience at PH, and would like to thank Jeffrey and the PH team for taking my previous review into consideration and really improving the flow of service.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The Plumed Horse fully earns its Michelin star -- refined, elegant, and genuinely memorable without ever feeling stuffy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We chose the four‑course tasting menu, which was more than enough food and beautifully paced. Every dish was immaculate in flavor and presentation, but still warm and inviting rather than overly formal. The meal began with an assortment of canapés: a smoked trout chouquette, ahi tuna cigar, beef tartare and green goddess tartlet, and a goat cheese pastelito. Each one was precise and flavorful -- a perfect little preview of what the kitchen can do. For our second course, we ordered the kanpachi with rhubarb and their renowned black pepper and Parmesan soufflé with uni and Dungeness crab fondue. The soufflé is famous for a reason -- rich, airy, deeply savory -- and the fondue takes it over the top. The kanpachi was bright and balanced, a great contrast to the decadence of the soufflé. Our third course was the duck and the coulotte, both cooked beautifully. The duck was tender with a crisp skin, and the coulotte steak was deeply flavorful and perfectly cooked to medium rare. Again, the kitchen hits that sweet spot of luxury without pretension. Dessert was just as strong. We ended with the lemon tart and the deconstructed s'mores -- one bright and zesty, the other playful and indulgent. A perfect finish. Service was exceptional: attentive, knowledgeable, and present without ever feeling pushy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is cleverly divided into a formal dining room, a chef's table inside the kitchen, and a more relaxed bar and lounge area, giving diners a range of experiences under one roof.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their wine list is extensive and impressive, and the social wine program -- where you can open a unique bottle if other guests are also interested -- is such a fun, communal touch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's also a fantastic spot for celebrations; nearly every table around us seemed to be marking something special.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And despite the fine‑dining polish, they don't take themselves too seriously. The money‑printed toilet paper and the staff dropping fake bills on the floor were hilarious, unexpected details that kept the night lighthearted. A standout experience from start to finish -- luxurious, playful, and absolutely worth the visit.

Romanian Valentine's Day dinner celebrations at Plumed Horse. Enjoyed the 4 course prize-fixe menu. The guava and goat cheese in the assortment of canapés was the best! The yellowfin tuna tartar I got as my second course was good and recommended by the server, but I enjoyed my partners mushroom campanelle more. For the 3rd I had the steak and my partner the chicken Milanese, both delicious. Service was very attentive.

I had dinner here recently on a weeknight with a small group of colleagues. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior space is beautifully done. The main dining room is classy and elegant. The private dining rooms are nicely done and allow for good conversation[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Every single food item we were served was top notch in taste and presentation. I've included photos for reference. They have an extensive selection of wines to choose from and the service throughout the meal was impeccable. This restaurant has a stellar reputation and they certainly lived up to it at this dinner. Outstanding!

Plumed Horse is a Michelin starred French inspired restaurant in Saratoga. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is really nice and features a three story wine cellar with glass floors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is excellent. The staff is very attentive without being overbearing. The food is a bit slow to arrive so budget a couple hours to dine here. The food is great as you would expect. The canapés were all delicious but I really liked the beef tartare and the lox "bagel". The Uni and crab soufflé was really nicely prepared and was probably the best "second course" option. The beef raghu was good but the pasta was slightly undercooked. For the third course, both the beef tenderloin and pork were perfectly cooked and seasoned. They basically melt in your mouth and they both have either clams or vegetables to balance them out. I really liked the lemon tart (even though I was really looking forward to the apple dish that vanished from the menu). I'll definitely go back next time I celebrate something special.

Fabulous service- definitely deserving of the Michelin star. Had an amazing dinner here with a group of friends. The cocktails were a highlight for us, especially the Per My Last Email. It was so beautiful I didn't want to drink it! But you definitely need to drink it, it's an amazing milk punch. The food was also great. The highlights for the group were the black pepper & Parmesan soufflé and the flannery farms rib-eye. I would definitely come here again as a splurge celebration!

Exceptional service and experience unfortunately food didn't live up to expectations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wide wine collection and a beautiful wine cellar for pictures.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One Michelin star restaurant with unique prefixed 4 course menu. The sommelier is quite a character and has a sense of humor. Started off with the canapés and each bite was flavorful and had an interesting texture. The Fiscalini tart was my favorite of the 4 due to the pistachios. The 2nd course we selected the beef cheek ragu and black pepper and Parmesan soufflé. The beef cheek ragu was on the saltier side. Small chunks of meat and the pasta was al dente. Stracciatella was smooth and dense. The soufflé was creamy and full of crab and uni flavor. Soufflé was fluffy and hot which pairs perfectly with the fondue. The 3rd we got black cod and the beef tenderloin. Black cod was cooked perfectly with a decent sauce but also on the saltier side. The beef tenderloin was soft and cooked medium rare. The kabocha was the best part of the dish. Sweet and had a light caramelization. The sides were standard. The creamed spinach and leeks tasted how it sounded. The tempura maitake mushrooms had a hard crunchy batter. A bit too hard and was expecting a traditional light and crispy. They had a special white truffle risotto which was amazing. It was rich and creamy with fresh truffle flavors. The server comes and grinds the white truffle to your liking and comes at $90 a dish. The desserts looked amazing. Carrot cake and Bjorn's apple looked like real carrots and apple. Cracked the shells to enjoy the sweetness! The course started off fantastic but leading to the main entree was a let down for a 1 Michelin star restaurant. Flavors of the main course didn't have much depth and leaned on the saltier side. Desserts were superb. They also have a mocktail menu. Valet parking for $15 or you can find street parking.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Immaculate experience. Heck, they even have a bidet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They are far better than most other restaurants that attempt these price points. I guess that's why they got the Michelin star. This place has all of the service you would expect of a restaurant of this quality. All of our dishes came on time. Our water glasses were kept full and correctly filled with sparkling/filtered for most of the whole night. The staff was attentive. We all ended our meal service full. We came here to celebrate my proposal to my fiance. Since we were a large party considering the prie-fixe menu, they offered us a five-course meal instead to lighten the burden on their kitchen and our decision making. In turn, we got an extra main course for the price of the four-course. The only thing I wished was that we were offered the opportunity to pick the 5 courses as some in my party had dietary preferences to not include seafood. Of the dishes, the favorite among the meat eaters was the rib-eye. Incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and with complementary flavors from the squash. Of those who are bread eaters, they absolutely loved the muffin-shaped bread and it's accompanied butter. Both were incredibly light, fluffy, and yet substantial. Of the canapes, the table ranked either the Fiscalini Tart or the Ahi Tartare & Cucumber as their number 1 & 2 favorite. The Smoked Salmon éclair and Beef Tartare "briquette" were both forgettable though we didn't have a bunch of people who were seafood enjoyers at the table. For the Black Pepper & Parmesan Souffle, we all enjoyed our servers telling us never to touch the teacup as it would burn our fingers. This was the majority of the tables third favorite dish. The Black Cod was forgettable. The favorites and seasoning were fairly one-note. Worst dish. For the desserts, they ranged from Asian low sweet to medium-high sweet, with nothing blatantly sweet to the point of decadence. The dark chocolate souffle was the favorite, though, do note, it is the least sweet. The carrot cake is the least favorite. Bjorn's apple is good but not as caramel-like as I had expected the Crème Caramel was forgettable. When we asked for our check, the staff brought along final treats for us to partake. Both were enjoyable. But this segways into my next point. They were really slow on getting us our check. To the point that I had believed they just forgot about us. And picking it up doubly so. This would not be an issue but my party was still conversing and drinking water this whole time and we needed refills. During the whole dining experience, until just before the very end, we had constantly had our waters monitored and our glasses filled. But we had to go out of our way to ask to pay our bill because at some people they started really slowing down on providing water and attending our table.

Okay, reviewing a fine dining restaurant like Plumed Horse always needs to be separated by the food and the service. In this case, there were strengths and areas of improvement in both sides of the restaurant. I've ate here at least 5 times in the last 10 years. My experience tonight was probably my least favorite of the lot...but it was still very good and enjoyable. Let me break down the highs and lows. Service: First, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Emilio lead the food service team and Eli assisted with our wine bottles that we brought in. Eli expertly chilled (champagne), decanted (16 year old Cabernet), and served. Both Emilio and Eli were incredibly skilled and fun. They both had a great sense of humor, which can be lacking in a fine dining environment. Food Runners/Presenters: We had a 7 course meal, but was really closer to 10 courses when you add in all the extra bites that the chef prepares for your table. An area that needs some attention is the food runners/presenters. With each course, the food runners present the course and describes the ingredients...and sometimes tells the diners how it should be eaten. A few of the female presenters were too soft spoken for us(the diners) to hear. Because the restaurant has energy and can get loud, the presenters must speak loudly so us diners can hear. It was very frustrating on many courses where I could not hear what was being said. These presenters need to slow down, get eye contact, and speak confidently to the diners...and sometimes loudly. This could improve with more awareness and better training. Food: The creativity and flavors of our meal tonight were very good. But as I said earlier, this experience tonight was my least memorable. The black pepper and Parmesan soufflé was (as usual) the star of the meal. Deep rich creamy flavors, while being light at the same time...pure magic. The grilled antelope served with two thick sauces (I couldn't hear what they were) was very tasty. The antelope was not gamey and was served rare. It was very tender and tasty. The other top dish for me was the abalone served with an exotic rice. The dish had a smoky flavor which totally changed the dish in a great way. It had some unique textures and savory charred flavors. It was super surprising. Although there were a few disappointments this evening, the plumed horse is still one of my top fine dining restaurants in the South Bay. Let's get the food presenters more training and more confidence, and this restaurant will have stronger service...and most important, happier customers.

    2nd course: beef cheek ragu

Came here for my birthday and had a fantastic meal! We each chose different items from the prix fixe 4-course menu to share. We were offered bubbles/champagne at the start but I don't really care to drink so we were given the French bloom "champagne" instead. Our server made it sound verrrry fancy but it pretty much just tasted like any sparkling apple cider from the grocery store. It was complimentary but if you wanted to order more, the menu shows it's a steep $17 per glass. Complimentary bread and cultured butter were amazing. The bread was buttery, fluffy, and divine, especially with the incredibly soft butter. The bread looked like it was baked in a muffin cup. - 1st course: assortment of canapes We were each given one piece of the same items: 1. Smoked salmon eclair - basically like a tiny piece of everything bagel with nova lox 2. Ahi tartare and cucumber - came on a piece of fried nori chip. Pretty standard taste 3. Beef tartare "briquette" - a pillow-shaped single layer of crisp shell with beef inside. I don't know what sauce was used but it was acidic and delicious 4. Fiscalini tart - flaky base layered with tomato jam and what looked to be cheese from Fiscalini. I've tried all of their cheeses available around the area but don't know what I was eating. Probably cheddar. The tart had pistachios all over it - 2nd course: also appetizer I guess? We ordered: 1. Black pepper & parmesan souffle (comes with uni and Dungeness crab fondue) Very glad I chose this. Both the taste and texture of the souffle were exceptional! 2. Beef cheek ragu It's mostly just pasta with maybe 3 grams of beef cheek pieces. This one wasn't very memorable unfortunately. I'm noticing just now that the physical menu also lists "handmade agnolotti - ricotta cheese, fava beans, pork belly" as an option for the 2nd course that's not on the online menu. Given how much better the pork in the next course was compared to the beef, we may have preferred this option. - 3rd course: main 1. Kurobuta pork So incredibly tender! Would love to eat this again. 2. Flannery farms rib-eye Unfortunately a miss - it was kind of hard to cut and didn't really taste like anything special. Came with roughly 6-7 oz of meat (two hand-sized pieces) and cooked rare. I don't think we were asked as we would have chosen medium-rare. The pieces of either onion or pineapple on the side (looked like onion, tasted like delicious pineapple with some salt) and sausage tempura were interesting though. - 4th course: dessert 1. Bjorn's apple The physical menu replaced the "tres leche" in the online menu with "Bjorn's apple - caramel cremeaux, calvados, spiced cookie crumble." Fascinating dessert - a white chocolate shell molded to look like a mini Granny smith apple, with a softened cacao nib as the stem, and apple pie filling inside with the "caramel cremeaux." I didn't taste any caramel though - it was mostly like some kind of mild-tasting cream/custard filling inside. The spiced cookie crumble around the bottom paired well too. 2. Creme caramel I'm not sure what I was expecting since I already saw pictures because I mean...it's flan. It was definitely better than normal flan and had mandarin oranges and orange peel shavings but truly not mind-blowing. Many of the tables around us were there for much longer than we were. We ate each dish fairly quickly and even then it still took an hour with some waiting in between the courses here and there.

I'm kind of sheepish to say we've lived in Los Gatos for 15 years and this is only our first time here. I've candidly been a little suspect of going by the sometimes garish cars in the valet and also some of the neon lighting you can see from outside. But after reading all the reviews, I decided to give it a try for our anniversary. We really enjoyed our overall experience. They do a great service and food without having to drive up the peninsula or to SF. They did a really nice job of service throughout our dining experience including leading up to welcoming us, greeting us with a Happy Anniversary from the hostess and our waiter to a thank you email (automated, but nice nonetheless) afterwards. We had also planned for the 4 course meal, but our waiter presented us with an option to have a 5 course meal the chef wanted us to have for our anniversary for the same price of the 4 course meal, plus it had the crab and uni soufflé included which normally would be an additional $35 pp supplemental. And lastly, the sommelier brought us complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary too Really nice touches we appreciated. As for the food, the canapes were fantastic and we both thought the best we've likely had and would gladly popped handfuls of them if we could. Special faves were the beef tartare and ahi tartare on a rice crisp and cheese. The uni/crab souffle was incredibly rich and savory. A super fun interactive dish. The next few dishes were good, but less spectacular, which included halibut, wagyu steak (surprisingly not very flavorful and slightly chewy) and the tres leche for dessert. As for the dining room, the decor is nice, though has a slight hotel restaurant feel. There are some silly lights that change colors in the dining room, nothing offensive, but we thought it took away from the experience. And also as the room filled up it got quite warm. When we went to the front bar room, it was much cooler, maybe 10-15 degrees cooler. All in all, we loved our dinner and agreed it was silly we hadn't been here sooner and we were sure we'll come back to celebrate more milestones to come.

Seasonal canapes - smoked salmon eclair, tuna tartare and cucumber, beef tartare briquette, and cheese and cracker.

Another amazing meal at Plumed Horse. This was my third visit and it did not disappoint. The service and the atmosphere remain top notch. Attentive but not intrusive server and modern, updated decor. I love this place. We started out with drinks. My husband went with a glass of champagne, and I had my favorite, a Kir Royale. Both were great. The canapés to start were mostly the same as my last visit. The beef tartare bite was my favorite, as it was packed with flavor in just one bite. The cheese cracker has jam on the bottom that cut through the fattiness of the cheese. It came in a close second. I could not visit Plumed Horse without the crab and uni soufflé. It was as mind blowing as I remembered. This time I got it with the caviar add on, and they packed it full with caviar. The caviar took the dish to the next level -absolutely worth the $35 upcharge. If you are on the fence, just do it. My husband, who has a seafood allergy, opted for the beef cheek ragu for the second course, which he reports was very good, but a little too salty for his liking. For the third course, we both chose the Akushi ribeye with a bordelaise sauce and a zucchini cream and zingy summer squash relish and pork stuffed squash blossom. We accompanied this dish with the crispy pommes paillsson. The beef was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The pork stuffed squash blossom was so packed with flavor, I could have had that as a dish on its own. It was all excellent and an amazing blend of flavors. For our last course, they gifted us two complementary glasses of champagne for our anniversary, which were perfect. For desert, I opted for the chocolate tart with black walnut ice cream and my husband selected the tres leches cake with strawberry. The black walnut ice cream was incredible. It had a pronounced walnut flavor, but I also detected notes of caramel/toffee. I had to tread carefully with the dairy because I don't tolerate it well, but it was so good, if I could have, I would have finished it all. Naturally, it paired perfectly with the rich chocolate tart. My husband reported that the tres leches cake was light and the freshness of the strawberry was great. And as always, we finished off our meal with some mignardises. At the end of our meal, our server reminded us that we can always eat at the bar without a reservation and order a la carte off the menu. The food, service, and atmosphere at Plumed Horse are stellar. We will definitely be back.

Plumed Horse Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Plumed Horse

Is there real food available at the bar, going all the way up to 4 course, or just small snacks?

Anything on the 4-course menu can be ordered a la carte in the bar and lounge, but there isn't a "bar menu" with snacks.

Can you get red wine by the glass? I didn't see that option on the website menu. The prices for bottles of wine are astronomical! I mean, I know it's a very fancy restaurant, but still, those wine prices, yikes!

You can. You have to ask for it when you're at the restaurant. They have a few good ones that they sell by the glass.

Do you need reservations for the lounge?

The brick walls and blackboards looked familiar. There's still a long table in the middle. With the new chairs and tablecloths, the place looked more classy than before. The floating shelves at the top of the walls were all lined with wine bottles. There're some gigantic bottles towards the back as well. It's quite a nice place to have a quiet, intimate dinner with the causal, yet upscale vibe. There're about eight tables (1-2 persons@) while we're there, and service was attentive, despite having only one server. For the $80 dinner for 2 special, we got to pick one item from each of the first two selections to share, two entrees, and one beignet each. We also added a beet salad to share, and my husband had the wine pairing. For our first course, the two baked oysters were cheesy and rich. It would be better if they were bigger, though. Our second course, the caramelized onion soup was perfectly prepared, one of the best I had ever had. The beet salad was refreshing, and the dressing was so tasty that it made arugula tasted good. I had the sole as my entree; it was cooked well, light and delicious. I took a bite of my husband's slow braised short ribs; it was tender and flavorful. The beignets were delightful, and paired really well with the dark chocolate and salted caramel sauce. I really appreciated that all their hot dishes came out really hot. Overall, it was a really enjoyable dinner. Would be back to have the onion soup again and try other items on the menu.

Unfortunately, our most recent visit completely changed that. We had reservations for a Saturday evening and were seated promptly. That's where the positive experience ended. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes without a single acknowledgment from staff--no greeting, no water, nothing. Meanwhile, other parties who arrived after us were attended to right away, which made the situation even more frustrating. After more than 30 minutes of being completely ignored, we decided to leave. It was honestly one of the most uncomfortable and disappointing dining experiences we've had. As strong supporters of local restaurants, this was especially disheartening given how much we used to enjoy coming here. Sadly, this experience has permanently changed how we feel about this place, and we won't be returning. I hope the staff takes this as a reminder that every customer deserves the same level of attention and respect.

Three of us came here for dinner and we opted to share a few starters and entrees. We ordered the Meatball Spatzle, Goat cheese Purse Salad, Double cooked Pork belly, and classic wiener schnitzel. And then we finished off with the Strudel for dessert. Everything was great and we'd definitely order any of it again. There were so many delicious sounding things on the menu though, that I think I'll have to try new stuff next time, just to try more of it! The portions were really good, especially the Spatzle, and all of that was plenty of food for the three of us. I wanted to be able to eat more, but sadly I was getting too full. We ordered a variety of cocktails and wine, our server was very generous in letting us try the different drinks before ordering. I ended getting a glass each of an Austrian and German wine, and loved both. Cocktails were also thoroughly enjoyed by those that had them.

Entrees were very good. This is a nice place to visit for variety...you can get a lot of entrees that aren't stuff you find at most restaurants (Austrian/German/Hungarian dishes). We've always had a good experience here though we don't visit very often. A nice place for special occasions.

We came right before 5pm, before the kitchen opened so we ordered drinks while we waited. Husband was very impressed with their wine list, which is a good sign. He was excited to try different wines and it's awesome they offer half pours so he could try more. But oh-my-gosh. GET. THE. SANTORINI. I loved that drink. Milk punch, yoghurt ... it was so refreshing and milky. I felt like I was in south of France or in Hawaii, sitting on the patio with the slight breeze and plants around and quiet atmosphere. It was so yummy, I got a second. This is a big indication how good the drink is because 99% of the time I usually have my husband finish my drink and never order a second one...especially the SAME ONE. But omg, I need to go back to get another. I've been dreaming of it. Service was great. Esp since we were one of the only guests, they tended to us well. It can be easy to forget about the guests on the patio but their cadence in checking on us was good. Portion sizes for the food is quite generous. We're used to octopus dishes coming out really small as tapas, but they gave a lot. And I loved the fried kidney beans that came with it. I liked how the bluefin tuna crudo came in a light oil and not overly sauced or salty. Pork chop ... WOW. Huge portion, we were so impressed. Rich flavors, delicious. Boar pappardelle, daughter did her happy food dance so you know it's good. Al dente and great taste.

The pasta texture was kinda hard and crumbly as if it was cooked last night half way thru and reheat in the microwave just before serving. Everything was just so wrong and I eventually had to tell the waitress to take it away and she was kind enough to not charge me for that plate. Me and my friend shared the seafood linguine with white wine sauce which turned out to be pretty good so that's the 2 stars. This is also the first time I've ever had to send a dish back to kitchen.
