This was a fun choice for a Girls Night Out in one of my favorite downtowns: Mountain View! AMBIANCE: Cute outdoor patio to enjoy a summer night. The interior has a nice minimalist design with a variety of seating (bar vs tables). FOOD: Loved all the dishes we tried! Special points for the Rootstock Flatbread. I would love to come back to try the sandwiches which looked fab and filling. DRINKS: My friends tried the Summer Sips flight and enjoyed all three choices. I had a white wine which was also delicious, light, and easy to digest. SERVICE: This is where we lose a star. Within the 2-3 hours we spent here, both of our waiters clocked out, leaving little to no attention or checking in throughout our dining experience. There was also confusion as each waiter told us different info about what wines were actually available. Absolutely loved this spot! The food was insanely amazing--hands down 5/5. I had the bruschetta (perfectly fresh and flavorful), the pot belly sliders (did not expect ground meat, but it totally worked), and shared a veggie flatbread, which was also delicious. I also tried an olive... and quickly confirmed that olives are still 100% not my thing. But that's on me, not them. Sat outside on a warm late afternoon--gorgeous, but I found myself playing musical chairs with the sun (despite the umbrellas). Pro tip: bring shades or snag a shadier seat if you're going for the patio. I tried a non-alcoholic cabernet for the first time--honestly, it tasted like sour grape juice. Wouldn't recommend that particular option, but I'm definitely coming back to try the real wine next time. All in all: amazing food, chill vibe, and a spot I'll absolutely be returning to. read more

Our server, Ariana, was attentive and gave us great recommendations. Here's what we ordered: - Vinho Verde (Anjos, Portugal): citrusy and slightly fizzy; super refreshing to kick off our evening - Spring Forward wine flight (Seghesio, Vermentino, Russian River; Stag's Leap, Viognier, Napa; Domaine de L'alliance, Sauternes, France): this was a perfect flight for a warm day. I've had the Viognier before so I was excited to have that, but the Vermentino was my favorite. Really bright, slightly sweet, and refreshing. - Tomato & Goat Cheese Bruschetta Crostinis: the flavor was good but the bread was a bit overly dry/toasted. I would have liked a bit more goat cheese too. - Prosciutto Wrapped Dates: these were SO delicious; however the almond on the inside was pretty hard to bite into- proceed with caution! - Monte Sereno Flatbread (goat cheese, prosciutto, pear, onion, arugula, balsamic): I loved the combination of the tart goat cheese, slight sweetness of the pear and balsamic, and the salty kick of the prosciutto. My friend and I came here for dinner a few weeks ago and LOVED our experience. We both had a wine flight and we split two sandwiches. Our waiter was excellent at recommending wines since neither of us really know anything about them, and we both really liked the flights he recommended for us! The sandwiches were also delicious and filling. The seating inside is pretty varied- we sat at a tall table, but there were only two of us, so about halfway through our meal we were joined by another party. My colleague decided to go here to grab drinks after work. This is my first time visiting, and I liked it! It was fairly quiet for a week day "happy hour" timeframe, but quickly picked up as the evening went on. I didn't see any happy hour specials, so keep that in mind. I appreciated that they offered flight options so that you can taste a few things at once, plus the names of the flight pairings were very creative! I just went for a Riesling, you don't see that offered very often. We ordered the deviled eggs and a 2x2 charcuterie board. Rootstock Wine Bar was always on my list to try. We finally had the special opportunity to try it on a Tuesday 4:45PM. No wait time even up to dinner time. Great place for small finger foods with wine & beer after work, but definitely a once in a while thing since it is on the pricier side. We had outdoor seating and our group of 4 (double date) chilled there for some time. The women had wine and the men had beer. Simple. Went there for a wine meetup happy hour. Wasn't sure which one was the right group, so I asked one of the waiters standing there doing nothing for help. He was very rude and unfriendly, saying he had no idea and was very unhelpful, which is odd for such a small bar when they're not even busy. Once I finally found my group, ordered the pinot noir by the glass, which turned out to be from Germany, and didn't taste very good. When I tried to flag down someone for help, the rude waiter actually said, "I'm not your waiter." Not sure why this waiter had such a major attitude problem. Thankfully, our waitress ended up being much more friendly, and I was able to order something else. The small bites are actually pretty tasty. Hopefully they have better wines for happy hour without needing to spend over 20 / glass, but definitely the salty waiter needs to go. Updating this exactly a year later! This time, I visited with two friends on a Saturday evening and found Rootstock significantly less busy. The outdoor seating area was empty so we picked a comfy booth in the back corner. Our server Jamie came over with menus right away and all three of us decided to order wine flights. I chose the Cabs Are Here and my friends went with the California Knows How to Party and Around The World. I loved my flight but especially the Penfolds 'Bin 704' from Napa Valley - absolutely fantastic. We also ordered a bunch of food, starting with the Bruschetta Trio, which I highly recommend. The portion size is small but each Bruschetta was phenomenal. I personally loved the Burrata/Avocado/Cherry Tomato/Peperoncino/Balsamic but the group favorite was the Strawberry/Goat Cheese/Fig Jam/Spiced Buts/Mint. I also ordered a Burrata Salad for myself, which was just okay - it was mostly a mountain of a arugula. However, my friends loved both the Lexington Sandwich and Chicken Pesto Sandwich. I was still hungry after my salad, so we ordered the Empanada Trio. Again, very small portion size but they were hot and tasty, with a great chimichurri sauce. The atmosphere was a little more sophisticated inside, but it was a great place to relax and have a conversation. Would return! read more

One thing to note about this place is that it is pricey. That aside though, I thought the experience at Rootstock was great. They have a decent collection of wine, although the wines by the glasses are a little more limited. I decided to try one of their "worldly" reds, which is a red blend. When I asked the server about the flavor profiles, he was able to immediately provide a specific and concise answer - love it. I was a fan of the selection I made and it made for a perfect pre-dinner drink. They also have tapas and other bites to eat and if you come early enough, you can take advantage of their happy hour menu. read more

If you like wine then Root Stock is your playground. They carry wines from many different regions but seem to specialitems in CA wines. This is perfect for us as we prefer new world to old world wines. Our hostess was great. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. Really great place for any occasion! My friends and I came here for an evening and got their flights. Loved their flight options! Forgot who I was talking to but the staff was very nice and explained each wine and which one goes well with what. It was a great experience with the flight selections. We got bunch of little things from each food category. We ordered their cheese and charcuterie was really delicious. Definitely need to order their small plates. You cannot go wrong with any of them because we pretty much ordered almost all of them and it was wonderful! Their flatbreads were really good if you want more crispness in your palate. I'd like to extend a huge shout-out to Shelbie and her remarkable team at Rootstock Wine Bar in Mountain View. When my work bestie made the decision to relocate to NYC, I undertook the challenge of organizing an after-work farewell gathering. There was specific criteria in mind for the event: a designated area within the restaurant, flexibility to accommodate an unpredictable guest list ranging from 10 to 30 people, the freedom for guests to drop in at any time during the event, and, of course, the convenience of separate checks. All of the prior restaurants I sent inquires to insisted on a table reservation or private party contract. Rootstock however, was able to meet all of the requirements and as my event was to take place on a Monday, only required a credit card to hold the reservation. The party unfolded flawlessly, allowing guests to either pop in for a quick drink or to stay for dinner. The menu has a great selection of bar bites and wines, with the crowd favorite wine being the 2022 Satellite Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. For food, I personally enjoyed the Rootstock flatbread, which was just the right amount of food for one and paired nicely with my wine. Years back, I had hosted a similar event at Rootstock's Cupertino location (sadly now closed) with comparable success. So, if you're looking for a venue to host an after-work happy hour or event, I wholeheartedly recommend contacting Rootstock Wine Bar.
