I don't get there very much, but the Alexis Diner is my favorite full menu diner in the Capital District. The only time I get over to North Greenbush is when I go to Hudson Valley CC to watch a basketball game with my friend. The last time we saw a game at HVCC we decided to hit the Alexis Diner after the game based on good word-of-mouth reviews. Both of us were happy our decision. The diner is located a few miles south of HVCC on Route 4. It is right off the highway, so it is easy to spot. Parking is easy. Reading through some of the reviews here, I see that all the negative reviews are related to a bad experiences with the management or the staff. Our experience was that we were seated promptly and our waitress was friendly and attentive. There could be some variations in service between servers and the time of day, but all I can say is that we were both very happy with the service. Calling the establishment the Alexis "Diner" short changes it. It is really a fine midscale restaurant with an extensive menu. Plus the menu also has a number of dinner specials. Food quality is excellent. The food is fresh, and it is clear that it was just not slapped together but was prepared to order. Definitely a notch above standard diner fare. The portions are plentiful. I can eat a lot, and I went away full. Pricing is very reasonable. My friend, who is a lot pickier than I am, was also highly complementary of the entire experience. Like I said earlier, I don't get to North Greenbush much, but when I do I will make sure to stop back in. It's really not all that far from Albany or Troy, and is definitely worth a 20-30 minute drive. Certainly one of the top five diners in the Capital District. read more

They asked us to leave so our server could cash out and go home. We were there for the time it Took to eat, my husband wanted to be able to finish his beer. I was shocked. Shame because I love the food and the diner Itself. The server could have waited until the next day for her tip, Etc. you don't ask customers to leave. We paid 65 dollar bill. read more

This dump is beyond awful. I ate there once and it was filthy, the food was cold and the waitress was miserable. I had to go a second time with a small group when I had no say in the matter. Of the 6 of us, 5 people had awful lunches. Besides the food being almost inedible, the waitress spent most of the time conversing with friends at another table, so we had to continuously ask for water, etc. How does this dump stay open? read more

Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this diner while driving around Troy! I love diners and Alexi's was fantastic. Breakfast anytime I wanted? Sold. I usually get eggs with corn beef hash or sausage. The portions are large and filling. I have no complaints about the corn beef hash - it's moist and yummy. The coffee is decent and goes well with breakfast. I usually drink at least 2 cups. It's usually bustling on the weekends, especially around brunch. Expect a wait time if you have a large party. The staff are professional and will try and get you squared away as fast as possible. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Too slow. Diners shouldn't make you wait 45 minutes for food. Get more help if you can't maintain reasonable service level. Cheap.... Cheap.... Cheap... But in a good way! I was hesitant to order grilled fish from a dinner but I really really really wanted fish. So I went out on a limb and ordered it. The fish came with a baked potato, veggie, salad and bread! The fish came out and it was wonderful. The portion was great and the flavor was fabulous. I would recommend this place for dinner any day. Nothing spectacular or worth visiting. I guess if you're in the area, you eat at Alexis as a last resort. I had their "famous" meatloaf. I'm still not sure what's famous about it. I love coming here with my husband. We can count on the food tasting as good as always. Their soup, no matter what kind, is awesome. I have to say the minestrone is one of my favorites. My two favorite meals are the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich or the Liver with Bacon. The liver is fabulous and the hot roast beef just melts in your mouth. This was the best meal we had on our trip through New England! We were there on a Friday night @ 8:00 and it was hopping. The crowd was an interesting mix of families, Seniors, couples, and groups of college kids. We ordered of the daily special menu, pork loin and stuffed sole, but everything on other tables looked good and portions looked good. The meal started with soup, followed by a large garden salad, then the entree. My stuffed sole was very filling. Often people slit the filet and slide a tablespoon or two of stuffing in it. This was a cylinder of stuffing wrapped with a filet. It was almost the size of a coke can. I also came with a couple of stuffed shrimp. Nice flavor to the stuffing. The waitress was really sweet and on top of it even though it was hopping. I would definitely go again and again if I was in the neighborhood. read more

Came in for a quick dinner. Never been, didn't know what to expect, was excited to try somewhere new.. the second we walked in the door there was a man mopping the floor with awful smelling chemicals right beside our table we were sat at, which the smell lingered of bleach throughout our whole meal. Waitress (Chris, Kris, ?) was EXTREMELY rude. i am a waitress, and she was hands down an example of everything you don't do. i wasn't even able to order my drink because she was in such a rush to go do something else? i tried a couple times and she ended up being plain rude to me so i just said forget it. Nachos as the appetizer- okay, nothing special. bagged tortilla chips with canned chili and cheese heated up over it. I ordered a steak with mashed and corn, and my fiancé ordered a patty melt. his was good, but he couldn't order it how he wanted to because the waitress was hurrying us so much. my steak was really good (best thing of the whole visit) except my mashed and corn were inedible, they literally tasted like cleaning agents had been mixed in.. not like sour or bad food, just like something your body tells you you shouldn't be eating. Then when we tried to pay the rude older man taking checks didn't inform my fiancé he couldn't tip on his card, so we had to scrounge cash in the car to make up a tip. we left about 18% which is low for us, being restaurant workers we usually always tip 30%+.. This is the worst dining experience I've had in a long time I never had such terrible service or food in years and I go to a lot of diners I've been here before last year and it was fine tonight we went there I had a hot turkey dinner was awful they gave me carrots that weren't done they gave my girlfriend something she couldn't even eat because it was so salty and when she asked for a sandwich they never brought it for a 1/2 hour and when they did she told them put it in the box they told her she didn't have to pay for it what was that nice of them was awful the worst experience I've had in I don't know how long horrible would never eat there again ever read more

I cannot express how appreciative I am to have Alexis Diner in my life! Especially during this pandemic! I am a high risk person and not being able to dine in has been extremely difficult. This is a perfectly average diner. They're food is good, the ambiance is good and the service is good, nothing more. If you're in need of a decent meal for not a lot of money you should absolutely go here. If you're in need of a little more, the additional 10 minute drive to downtown Troy will prove to be very fruitful. read more

My wife and I stop in every time we are in the area! I am from Troy originally and every time we go there to Alexis we are served and seated quickly, the wait staff is wonderful as is the food! Large selection of items for a diner. Always popular and busy regardless of what time you go. Good selection of vegetarian breakfast options. The only downside was that quite a bit of the food is prepackaged foods and their menu identifies that that, for example they use McCains fries instead of making their own. read more

My eggs Benedict was very lack luster. The. hollandaise sauce was broken so I sent it back. On the second attempt the sauce was fixed, but the ham was undercooked. The home fires were also very nasty. read more

Alexi's one of my favorite diners of all time, and I am a loyal, regular customer. Always an excellent dining experience. The food is always fresh and the menu covers a wide array of dishes suitable for many different palates. The service is very good and even when the place is absolutely full, such as on holidays, the wait is usually no longer than ten minutes. The staff are very friendly and the Diner has a very nice atmosphere, combining retro chrome and neon elements with a traditional Greek atmosphere, including a beautiful mural showing a Greek port town, with people dining along the shore, suitable for any occasion. I would particularly recommend the Gyro or the Souvlaki with the Macaroni salad, or on a more special occasion, the Prime Rib au jus cooked medium-rare with the Chicken Tortellini soup, a baked potato, mixed vegetables and for dessert, the fresh, homemade chocolate pudding. If you can make it on a Wednesday night, which is Greek night, I highly recommend the Dolmades for an appetizer, followed by the Greek Sampler Platter, consisting of Moussaka, Pastichio, and Spanakopita. The food at Alexis Diner is very good no matter what meal you have, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I would recommend going in between lunch and dinner to avoid large crowds. If you arrive around 3PM, you will probably get your food pretty fast and you won't have to deal with large crowds. If you are a new customer to Alexis Diner, the menu can be overwhelming since they have a wide variety of items to choose from. My favorite menu items include the turkey Reuben, fish fry with macaroni and cheese (served on Fridays), chicken tenders, turkey breast pita wrap, and for dinner, baked ziti parm. Most meals come with your choice of french fries or a small side salad or macaroni or potato salad and a pickle spear and coleslaw. At dinner time, many meals come with soup, salad, and homemade dinner rolls. I'd definitely recommend Alexis Diner to all friends and family. read more

It was with great expectation I stopped in. Classic diner frontage and walking through the door I could see it was a Greek diner and the pastries in the cabinet looked yummy. Then everything turned to custard or went downhill. Before we could get our coats off and sit dyer were asked for a drink order. Personally I like to be sitting down with my jacket off before I'm asked. We told the waitress we weren't ready and a minute she came back and we ordered drinks. Waiting for a long time for my soup (French onion) appetiser. Wondering what happened to it when dinner arrived. Small portions left me wondering where the rest was. My daughter ordered Macaroni and cheese - it was GREEN. It looked like it had been cooked in the same hot water they cooked veggies in. My other guest asked for a small potato salad instead of fries but got fries nevertheless. My onion soup...I reminded the waitress twice about it and I it finally arrived at the end of the meal. Worst I have ever seen. It looked like two pieces of bread were thrown on top and a single slice of cheese (none of the overflowing cheese goodness you would expect) I complained and fortunately wasn't charged. Overall a huge disappointment. I'll never return!! In reply to owner comment: YES I have the right establishment!!! I drove there from East Greenbush New York. It is 15 minutes away from where I am staying on route 4. We visited on Tuesday, 28th January 2020 and if I could have given no stars at all I would have and my entire party of 3 felt the same. Thoroughly enjoyed this place. I am a diner snob and this joint hit a homerun. The soup and salad that came with the dinner was a surprise, usually one or the other...so, you will be taking food home with you. The salad was well-thought out and not crappy iceberg mix... It was a nice spring mix. The pea soup was as good as my mother's. The fried chicken main was interesting, it has honey or something in the batter.... Would return, but wouldn't get the chicken...
