For context, I rate products and businesses on a simple scale: 5 stars means I love it, 4 stars means I like it, 3 stars is okay, 2 stars means I didn't like it, and 1 star means I hated it or think it's unsafe. I've been coming to 76 Diner for years, going back to my college days, and while I don't get over to that part of Latham as often anymore, I still make it a point to stop in a few times each year. I will say a while ago they changed their menus. I used to enjoy the older version with some information about the presidents of the United States. Probably silly of me but I enjoyed reading that and it went along with the '76 name. I'd like to see something similar to that come back on future menus. It's a large place, so there's rarely much of a wait, if any, and the parking lot is big enough that finding a spot is never an issue. On this visit, we were seated quickly, greeted promptly, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Any time I've been here it's always nice and clean. This time was no exception. Any time I've been in the restroom, it has always been clean as well. The service stood out, our waitress checked in several times to make sure everything was good and see if we needed anything else without being overbearing. Latham '76 Diner has been around since 1973, and pretty much looks exactly the same as it has for the past 50+ years. Inside is actually larger than expected, with a certain mid-century charm. Service was quick and unobtrusive. I had never actually eaten here until a recent weekend when I met a friend for breakfast. The menu is positively huge, and it was hard to narrow down my choice, but I went with the western omelette, which comes with potatoes and toast. I wish I could've switched the toast to an English muffin, and the potatoes were really not that flavorful and kind of dry. I would have preferred hashbrowns. I only ate half the omelette. It was kind of dry; no cheese, just ham, peppers, and onions. Am I glad I ate here? I guess so. But will I eat here again? Probably not. read more

Once again, true to our tradition, we arrived at the diner at dinner time looking to enjoy breakfast meals. Yes, we've been doing this for over fifty years, and once again we were satisfied with our meal as we departed satiated. I ordered the Big Breakfast ($13.49) comprised of two pancakes (instead of one French toast), two eggs, and bacon (instead of either sausage or ham). That's quite reasonable since we paid $9.99 ten years ago. I did opt to add an order of home fries on this visit for an additional 35 cents. My wife decided to have a Create Your Own Omelet ($10.99) with cheddar cheese and spinach (plus an additional 35 cents for that second item in the omelet), served with home fries and toast. Bottomless cup of coffee is $3.99. The pancakes were large and very light and fluffy considering how thick they were. I would have liked them to have been served hotter, which, coincidentally, is what my wife also said about her omelet. But the pancakes were tasty and satisfying. The hashbrowns were a good mix of some soft and some crispy potatoes. The over easy eggs I ordered came out perfect and the bacon was crispy the way I like it. My mom and I stopped here on the way home from a winter road trip. It was so cold inside the restaurant so we were especially hoping for a warm classic diner meal. Mom's pancakes looked premade and reheated. They were shiny and rubbery instead of light and fluffy. My eggs Benedict had a large amount of a gloopy hollandaise sauce. The flavors were lacking. It did seem very clean inside but the food wasn't very good on our visit. read more

I have been having breakfast once a month for years and liked it, but today was something else!! I ordered a Gyro and it came out super salty and rolled up like a misbegotten burrito. The tater tots that came with it tasted like they were cooked in week old oil. Also the lettuce in the gyro looked "off". I didn't even eat half of it. I set it to one side while speaking to my friend and when I looked over at it, a half dozen small fruit fly looking bugs were circling around my plate. Finally, I grabbed a peice of carrot cake to go and it cost over 9 dollars!!! To be fair its good carrot cake, but not that good. And just so management doesn't go after the servers, the servers are probably the best part of the diner. They work hard and are good at their jobs and always have a smile on their faces. Since the ownership has changed obvious changes have been made. The hamburgers are frozen and tasteless. The burgers have zero seasoning and are super thin. The coleslaw is extremely vinegary and inedible. If you choose to patronize this restaurant be aware the suppliers they currently use are different and your experience probably will not be what you are use to! read more

The Turkey dinner at $22 is a Turkey roll, the gravy looked and tasted like glue, the waiter forgot our mashed potatoes never, ever came back to the table. And when he did, he always had an excuse. Came with a party of 8 on a Sunday morning and they got a table ready for us right away. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. Too many breakfast items ordered to list them all but they included eggs, chocolate chip pancakes, Bloody Mary, hash, eggs Benedict and monte cristo to name a few and everyone was happy with their food. Ordered turkey dinner. It came out with two platters. One was covered end to end with a gravy, under which I found a fair serving of sliced turkey (acceptable) over a stuffing. No concept of presentation and way too much gravy. I'd have considered sopping up some of it with the plastic wrapped bread but it was too stale. Vegetables were kernel corn and mashed potatoes. Each came in a standard small dish on the second platter accompanied by even more of the gravy. The corn tasted like it was boiled with onions and had no flavor. The potato's had a sour taste. The only redeeming aspect of the meal was the one ounce serving of canned cranberry sauce that had literally been dropped on the table while eating the salad. I thought that just maybe their baked goods might convince me to come back again. Unfortunately I was wrong. It was an eclair that had been frozen and thawed. The chocolate seemed tasteless and artificial, the shell was dry and stale and the cream filling was actually crumbly. I remember when "76" was a great place to eat. We were on the way back to the airport from Cooperstown and wanted to try a breakfast spot. This place looked promising. Upon entering, I was greeted with an old style 1970's diner decor. I really liked it. There were so many tables and the menu was extensive with so many options. Our server was very nice and constantly checking up on us. This place has everything. I was there yesterday 3-8-2026. I ordered the big breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage links, hasbrowns, and two slices of French toast, and coffee. The eggs were terrible. They were runny, the hash browns were hard like they were made the day before, the French toast was hard and dry. I didn't have enough saliva to swallow it. I don't know what they do for coffee, but I had this terrible aftertaste after this breakfast. It was like a 9 year old made this. I never send anything back in fear of what they might do to it. Was very excited about trying a local diner in the Latham area, as we recently came back to the area and are looking for new family traditions! Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated promptly! The hostess team was fantastic. Where it went sideways for us was when we were seated. Our waitress greeted us about 10 minutes after we arrived. We had already made our food selections and were thirsty and ready to order! Very simple order for a diner, a Caesar salad, avocado toast, French onion soup and eggs Benedict. It was my fault for not taking pictures, however, the toast was slathered with margarine and the sliced avocado was warm on a completely separate plate. The Caesar salad was overpowered by the garlic that my daughter couldn't eat it. I tried a bite to confirm and I agreed I wouldn't eat it either. Not once were we asked why she wasn't eating her food and when it was brought to the staffs attention when they asked if we "wanted it boxed", they didn't even offer to reverse or partially reverse the inedible salad from our ticket as it sat 99% on the plate. I paid and was polite as I always am, even gave a 25% tip. As for the eggs Benedict, the hollandaise does not appear to be homemade and the poached eggs were very under cooked and cold. We had to wave down the bussing staff for a glass of water due to our waitress not checking on us or bringing our glass of water that we had originally requested. What was perplexing was, other tables seemed to be getting their orders correctly and in a timely manner. Two tables that sat down 10 minutes after us got their food 10 minutes before us. Ultimately - we may have had a better experience had we been attended to. This was a learning experience and we will not be back for a second chance. read more

Stopped in 5/19/25 mid-morning, having skipped breakfast for an early appointment. Great experience all around. It's a pleasure to waited on by professionals, both hostess and waitstaff. My Nova Scotia Lox Omelet was light, fluffy and delicious, enjoyed with REAL rye toast. My wife said her Cuban Deluxe (on an excellent baguette) was the best she's had since she first fell in love with the sandwich, a long, long time. The sweet potato fries were delicious. There were such generous portions that we took leftovers home and enjoyed them the following day for lunch (warmed 10 minutes in a 400 f oven), everything warmed, fries crisped. I went to breakfast with 25, yes, I said 25 other people. This was the easiest most convenient set up I have ever seen for this many people. Not only did they immediately get hot coffee and tea rolling the minute people started arriving, they were able to navigate through the confusing mess of late arrivals and all and I mean ALL orders were served hot and correctly. We were all given separate checks and anything paid in cash without need for change was collected right at the table! These people are the bomb! They know how to deal with large groups and this will definitely be our go to place for sure. My only complaint and it is the complaint of most diners, why oh why doesn't anybody serve hash browns anymore! I love them but seldom find them offered! read more

The Final Straw: Since we've moved back upstate earlier this year, we've hoped to find a local diner we could frequent for breakfast. We tried Latham 76 for the past few months. It's a standard diner with its own look and feel; service and food were good enough... Over time, we noticed some of the wait staff were better than others, mostly inattentive but tolerable. Yesterday, however, inattentive crossed the line into incompetent and rude. It wasn't busy, our order was straightforward, yet we saw several tables served by the same waitress who ordered after us but were fed first. After the fourth instance and an unusually long wait (35 minutes), we paid for our coffees ($4 each) and walked out. We're giving up on this place. I used to love this place but recently it just seems to have gone down in quality. My partner and I went in tonight for dinner and were shocked by the inattentiveness of the staff and the quality of the food, especially as two people who work in the restaurant industry. We received our drinks and put in our order relatively quickly after being sat, but after that our server disappeared and our food didn't come out for quite a while. By the time it arrived we had realized our food had likely been sitting in the window for a while based on the lukewarm quality and by the fact that it was not our server who brought it. Side note: I ordered the big breakfast with french toast and only received one slice of french toast, which seems very odd. We ate our food and wanted to get dessert but we still didn't see our server. We sat at the table waiting for her for a while until eventually my partner decided he needed to get back to work and we should just head out. We went up to the front to ask for our bill when our waitress appeared with it in her pocket. It was over $50 bucks for bad food and also a small amount of it. Once I got there, the menu had a lot of options and I asked if anything was a local specialty. The waitress recommended the Greek omelette- some veggies and feta cheese. It came with a choice of toast - I got a bagel and the bagel was fresh and perfectly toasted with a choice of toppings, I had some with butter and some with cream cheese. I got a side of bacon and it was a generous serving of 3-4 slices. So I had gone there primarily to get good eggs, but I didn't care for the Greek omelette, I think I would get one of the other omelets, or other style eggs, the texture of the feta and the chopped veggies didn't do it for me. Based on how good everything else was, I would say try this place. The waitress said that the Greek omelet is very popular in general. The atmosphere felt very local, had a mix of tables and booths and bar seating. The parking lot had many cars at lunch time, indicating a good number of patrons, several rooms for seating. I. Love. This. Diner. When you think of a classic diner, it's this place. VINTAGE- but soooooo well maintained. They have flowers (fake) everywhere that just puts the decor to a new level. I know I'm focusing on the decor, but it's part of the experience. We got seated in a both by the window (which is honestly the best kind of seat in the house). Getting a table didn't take that long on a Sunday morning - less than 10 minutes. Took a little while for someone to come grab our order, but after that the food came out quickly. Their service was great. Our waitress was very nice and fast. There was just so many things to choose from. Their burgers are pretty good but the chicken items are a little dry. One hidden item they have that not a lot of people know about is their lava cake. It's one of the best lava cake I've had. It comes with ice cream as well. The flavor was unique and delicious and the puff pastry topping was the perfect light and buttery texture to bring this meal to next level. I'm not a corn bread person, but my partner said it had great flavor! He got the Veal Monte Carlo and he couldn't have been happier. It was bursting with flavor and, like mine, it was quite large. We started off with great soup, he opted for the French Onion at a two dollar upcharge and he didn't regret it. As with our entrees it was bursting with flavor and perfect textures. *The first time I went here I got chicken with garlic and broccoli and it was AMAZING. I do not remember the name of the dish. We couldn't have asked for better service. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. She brought us refills before our cups were empty and always seemed to know exactly when we were ready for the next stage in our dining experiencing.
