WOW! Truly impressed with this location. They verified the brake caliper on my girlfriend's vehicle was not truly seized. Downey Car Care Center was going to charge an additional $289.47 for a brake caliper that was not needed and an additional $152.10 for a brake fluid service had we replaced the caliper. While Downey Car Care Center highly recommended the caliper, Alex's Auto Repair stated they did not want us to waste a lot of money if the calipers were not the problem. Truly grateful for Alex's Auto Repair prompt responses and amazing customer service. They verified the caliper did not need to be replaced. They simply lubricated our caliper. The mechanics and front desk staff are excellent. Had an AC issue (no cold air) and the told me up front the price to test and check equipment and what the freon type and cost coud be if only a recharge was needed. So I had a good senerio cost when I left. They did the work no detectable leaks. System help pressure an AC was cooling once again. They told me the mechanic put a dye in the freon solution so if any leak did occur they woul hav a better chance of knowing where next time I brought it in. I have no issues with their workmanship but would never go back due to their dishonesty. They said I need to change all four brake pads because they were all at 3mm. I went to another shop and they measured it and showed me that the front brakes were at 3mm but the back brakes were at 7mm and could go another 10k miles. Readers can review them and draw their own conclusions. 3. It was Josh who gave me the final labor-only estimate, which I accepted. If the shop could not honor it, it should not have been offered. I canceled another appointment based on that offer, only to have my time and effort wasted. 4. The quote clearly separated parts from labor - the $243.88 plus tax coolant charge still deserves a clear explanation. We are sharing our experience so other customers can be more cautious before choosing Alex's Auto Repair for major repairs. Our family Sienna needed timing belt / water pump related maintenance. We requested quotes on Yelp and received multiple responses. Many shops offered free inspections, but Alex's was close to our home and had a very high rating, so my husband Richard chose them even though they charged $72.50 for the inspection. Richard handled the interactions after that, so "I" below refers to him. After the inspection, I received a sizable quote and reviewed it carefully - The biggest red flag was the coolant charge as AI pointed out. Alex's quote listed coolant at $19.99 per quart, totaling $243.88 plus tax. Toyota Genuine Super Long-Life Coolant is around $20 per gallon, so this was basically over $80 per gallon for general coolant. No other shop, including Downey Car Care Center, quoted anything close. So I texted Josh and politely asked: "Just wondering if that coolant charge is a calculation issue or a typical charge for this type of job?" That question was never answered. Since I had already decided to bring my own Toyota OEM parts and coolant, I did not press further. After about two weeks of silence on the labor-only offer, I scheduled another shop as a backup. Eventually, Josh sent a labor-only offer. Since the inspection fee could be applied and the price seemed fair (without parts markup), I accepted, canceled my other appointment, and brought the car in with my Toyota OEM parts list along with a $25 gift card for Josh to show appreciation for his time. Before drop-off, Josh repeatedly emphasized "absolutely no warranty for parts and labor." He also said, "If the parts are wrong, the fee will apply each day." I told him I understood there would be no warranty since I was bringing my own verified Toyota OEM parts. However, because he repeatedly used the word "absolutely," after I drove there, I asked one workmanship-related clarification: in the event that something was not installed properly, would they stand behind their work? That discussion seemed to change the tone. Josh had given me the offer, I accepted it, canceled another appointment, and brought the car in. He refused to take the car that day. However, we still ended the conversation with a handshake, and he said he would talk to his father, David, and get back to me in a couple of days. Then communication stopped. I came in to get a window regulator fixed for my 2016 Tesla model X and the communication was really good. Upon arrival the manager or front desk gentleman was really friendly and kind. They do take a lunch between 12 and one unfortunately I came around 11:45am but even still they were able to get me out of the door by 2 PM so I was still on time to get my son they charged me exactly what they quoted and ran into no issues. I think they had a EV expert mechanic ! The window works amazing. This review is only for their customer service and quoting process. I did not use their services because they were a little far from my home (25 mins away). I requested a quote to recharge the AC system on a truck by method of evacuating and recovering the existing freon gas, vacuum testing the system for leaks, and then pumping the recovered gas back in along with any extra gas needed to meet factory spec. They were the first to respond (in what seem like less than 10 mins) with a base price plus a TBD cost of add'l freon I'd need. Their price was the lowest compared to all other Yelp responses I received by at least $40. Based off this very limited interaction, I'd recommend reaching out to them if you ever need any services. read more

I found Alex's on Yelp and decided to message them to see how quickly I could get my car in to get checked.
