    bacon, eggs, and hash browns

I'm back and forth on Alex's. It's been around for quite some time and I know locals come here often for breakfast. Right off of Main Street, it's a small breakfast diner that looks like your typical old fashioned diner. I've gotten takeout many years ago, which was good, but this review is based on the latest visit - Seating is very limited as there are maybe 8 booths (?) and a few bar seats. Kind of a head scratcher when you walk in because no one really greets you nor do you know about the seating situation. You find out you pretty much have to stand and wait for an open table and then you just go there yourself. The tables are cleaned off but I absolutely noticed nothing was sprayed or wiped down. The food itself was just ok....average. Nothing great, nothing bad. They have your typical dishes and choosing of breakfast meats and eggs the way you like. I absolutely thought something was wrong with me because I really could not taste anything from the hash browns, which were more like tiny home fries. I had to verify with my partner that the hash browns had zero taste and they confirmed. It was just the strangest thing, no flavor of seasoning, potato, or even grease.

Let me preface this review by advising this is a CASH ONLY business. If parking is full in front, there's additional (but limited) parking in back. We came for breakfast. Husband ordered Western omelet w/hash browns and toast. I ordered sides of hash browns, sausage (only offer patties) and small grits. Be forewarned--hash browns are cubed and has some sort of seasoning (oregano?) sprinkled on them. Specials on board advertised over grill came w/hot coffee or tea. Food came out hot and expeditiously after ordering w/minimal and staff was attentive and eager to fill/top coffee. Per menu, prices include NC tax. Come early as the place fills up quickly! Great place to meet up with friends and check out a locally owned small business offering Greek/American cuisine

Place was crowded but we got seated quickly. It took a while to get our order but everything was hot. Hash browns were very bland. Ever else was just ok.

I absolutely enjoyed my experience at this cute mom and pop breakfast spot. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I love the fact that the food is made to order so the freshness is superb. The food needed absolutely no additional seasoning, very flavorful like it came from a granny's kitchen! I'll be back!

A High Point staple, Alex's House has been around for as long as I can remember (1980, the menu says). Over the summer, my friend Jimmy and I took his wife and fellow Atlanta Yelper Angela M. here to experience a restaurant we grew up on. Nothing has changed about this place in 20 years. From inside-out, everything is the same, right down to the tiles and plates on the walls. Alex's House is a small little diner where you can get breakfast (eggs, waffles, pancakes, omelets) and well as a light lunch or dinner (sandwiches, salads, hoagies, and a few entrees like steak or chicken tenders). I'm fond of the salads, probably because I thought they made the best salads in the world in 3rd grade. There's parking in both the front and back of the restaurant. It can get busy on the weekends during breakfast and lunch hours, so you may have to wait a bit for a table to open up. Today, the food is still decent enough and service is friendly. They accept cash only and all prices on the menu already include tax. Nice.

The service was great, the cook rude, when asked for eggs no grease or butter, he asked who ordered it and yelled down the bar, NO!! I'm not cooking that!! Looking as if I had done something wrong. O did not complain of the burnt bacon, the potatoes on others plates looked wonderful but. I must say I was very disappointed at the Rude and unpleasant behavior. I could not eat after the disrespectful manner in which I was spoken in.

Cute little breakfast place. Service was ok. Hot chocolate came with a cup of hot water and a bag of chocolate for you to mix yourself.. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The ham and steak were way too salty and almost uneatable. The home fries were not very warm.

Alex's House was wonderful for breakfast! My friend was visiting from NJ and we decided to take my kids out for pancakes last Thursday morning. We got there around 9:30; plenty of parking in the back. There were a few booths and a couple of counter seats open so we took an open booth. This place is an absolute hole in the wall with minimal seating, very friendly service, hot coffee, great prices and delicious breakfast. We had a fabulous time! My kids enjoyed the big fluffy pancakes; they were warm and had a great homemade flavor. My friend and I both enjoyed eggs (his over easy, mine over hard) along with potatoes, bacon, sausage and toast. Everything was hot & delicious. The potatoes were diced small and cooked to a perfect crispiness; we were expecting traditional hash browns but were pleasantly surprised! We will most definitely be back to Alex's House for another yummy breakfast experience very soon! **cash only**

Alex House is one of our favorite breakfast spots for good food. Sometimes there is a small wait, but it's worth it!

I don't know if the ownership has changed or if they just made some decisions to alter things, but either way it changes our opinion of the place. First and most important for us, they used to be the only place we were aware of in NC to get Gluten Free Crab Cakes which was a major reason we frequented Sammy G's. That has apparently changed and the new Gluten Free menu is basically just the meats menu which is a real shame. It looks like they have made some other small changes to the regular menu as well, none of those were all that concerning but the loss of this GF treat is a real blow for us. If you are a celiac and found reviews about the GF crab cakes, please be aware they appear to be gone now. Additionally, the prices across the menu seem to have gone up by a few dollars. When you consider that Sammy G's was never a cheap place to eat, and given the state of the economy these days, that actually does come out to a noticeable change and makes it harder to justify going. However, with the loss of the old GF options, it's unlikely we'll come back anywhere near as often as we used to.

Visited May 17 around 2:05 PM, just the two of us. Seated right away, orders taken within minutes,…read moreand the appetizer came out quickly. Entrées followed in a reasonable time, no real issue there. Sammy G's has been in High Point for years and offers a wide menu with a little bit of everything. They also bring out little yeast rolls that are pretty good and they were warm when served. We started with the thin cut onion rings. My husband said "less than spectacular," and that sums it up. Some were sliced so thin you mostly tasted breading, and they were a bit greasy. I would skip these. He ordered the fish sandwich with Brussels sprouts (premium side with a small upcharge). The sandwich was okay, nothing special. The Brussels sprouts were good, nicely cooked with solid flavor. I had the Fratellis salad with greens, cranberries, feta, mozzarella, Granny Smith apples, and candied pecans, and added sirloin for an upcharge. They forgot the steak at first, but brought it out shortly after in a separate bowl. Not a big deal. The sirloin was cooked medium as requested, a little red inside and tender enough to cut easily. It had good flavor. I chose the apple cider vinaigrette, which worked well with the salad. I also ordered the chef's selection soup, which was supposed to be lobster bisque. If there was any lobster, it was microscopic. The flavor was slightly bitter and just not good. I asked for it to be taken off the bill. Service handled everything well, including the mistake with the steak and the soup. Atmosphere is casual tavern style, relaxed and easy for a weekday lunch. Must order: Fratellis salad with sirloin and apple cider vinaigrette (yummy), Brussels sprouts Heads up: Skip the thin cut onion rings and don't expect much from the bisque. Other soups, I've had here in the past have been great though.
