Oh my gosh, I love this place! The food is always so good and delicious. My husband and I have ordered take out from here about 4-5 times already and each time, it has been great. The food is always good and they give a lot of food: lot of rice, lot of meat, beans, etc. You can tell the food is made fresh too and not pre-made or microwaved like at other places. Our favorite dishes are the ones with steak/beef...pretty much you can't go wrong with any of those dishes with steak/beef. The pork/chicken dishes are not bad either, but my favorite has always been steak/beef dishes and the plantains. A side of plantains is definitely recommended. Service is awesome too! You can order online and write specific comments/requests re your order of you like. People that work there are very friendly too. When my husband and I went there to get food, the woman who I think is the owner gave us free canned drinks that she wanted us to try and said they are drinks from Brazil. It was pretty good. She always asked us if we need help bringing the food because we order a lot. Hehe Do not be discouraged as the place is very small and looks likes "a hole in the wall." Recommended for take-out! Overall, very good quality food, great service, and definitely recommended! One of my favorite restaurants in the area.

The service was great and the staff were friendly. It wasn't very loud, however, we did choose to sit outside because the weather was nice. Parking: street parking hard to come by, but there are garages and parking lots near by (part of the square) that offer free parking! Food: The rustic bread was warm, had a crunchy crust, and was soft and fluffy inside. The butter was softened and easy to spread. The salad had fresh greens, pretty standard salad with some sort of vinegar-based dressing The highlight of the steak frites for me was the frites. The fries are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and salted very well. The steak was pretty good, but didn't stand out to me as much as I thought it would. I'm guessing the secret sauce has mushroom and Worcestershire sauce in it. It wasn't overpowering and complemented the dish well. The apple pie wasn't too sweet and had a nice flaky pie crust.

I'm happy to report--it was real, and we had a great brunch! We made a reservation, were seated without any issues, and the service was attentive throughout our meal. I ordered the steak and eggs with a mixed salad, while my boyfriend got the steak frites and a yogurt parfait with dried fruit and granola. He's usually not a fan of parfaits, but he ended up loving it. The portions were just right--filling without leaving you overly stuffed. My only small critique is that the steak was sliced pretty thin, so it didn't quite feel like the best value for the price, even though it was flavorful and cooked well. And yes, the 25-cent brunch cocktails are actually real! They made the whole experience even more fun. We'd definitely come back for brunch.

Our waitress was fantastic--so friendly, attentive, and pleasant throughout the meal. There were so many things I wanted to try! We started with the Baked Clams, which were fresh and delicious. The crostini and bread dipped into that sauce were so good. The Grilled Salmon with lemon risotto cake, grilled corn, marinated zucchini, and tomato agrodolce was perfectly cooked, fresh, and a huge portion. Everything on the plate worked so well together. The Chianti-Marsala Braised Beef Short Rib with Parmesan polenta, roasted mushrooms, and braising jus was absolutely amazing. The short rib was incredibly tender and flavorful--it literally melted in my mouth! We were all way too stuffed for dessert, but honestly, that's a pretty good problem to have. Overall, a fantastic meal! Delicious food, generous portions, wonderful service, and a lovely patio atmosphere. Definitely a place I'd come back to!

We were welcomed in and were seated inside. We had just flown in from California that day and I wanted pizza and pasta. We ordered both of those along with some salads. The grilled Margherita pizza was an ultra thin almost cracker crust pizza. The rigatoni bolognese and spaghetti al limone were ok but nothing special. Our waitress was friendly enough but not very attentive. Our dinner was fine but I wouldn't choose to return.

While it was good, it was very heavy. We also got the chicken drippings which was so cozy and served with bread. We ordered the squid appetizer but it might have been forgotten so it didn't come out with our food and we had to remind our server who apologized multiple times throughout the rest of the meal. We sat outside since the weather was nice and it was well spaced and didn't feel crowded but the inside looked super cute too!

My daughter got oysters and the oysters were soooo dried out like it's been open, dead, and in the fridge for so long that it was just dried up and no meat. It was pretty disappointing. I don't know if we just ordered the wrong food or had bad luck. But it didn't help that the server wasn't aware of our experience and kept forgetting about us. Highlights. My favorite is probably the tartare, the flavor was perfectly balanced, the cracker was unfortunately stale, and the tuna itself could have been a little fresher. My kids had the Mac and cheese which they said was ok, and enjoyed the sliders. The oysters were good, but the shrimp did not taste fresh and were very bland like it's been soaked in water. The biscuits were tasty but I wish it was a little hotter so it would be more fluffy. I had a spicy tequila drink I forgot what it was called but the bartender did a really good job on it. The server really lacked personality and I wish was a little more attentive to provide us a good experience. I have this place 4 stars because the place is very cute and is a really good fit for the location, as a local, this can easily become a regular spot for myself and friends and it really has the potential to be this! I think it just needs good ambiance and energy and more attentive from the food quality going out? I hope to see good things happen to this place so I plan to come back and try again but maybe drinks with friends next time!

Post-COVID, life looks a little different. I've changed jobs and moved to another town, so it's no longer the easy drop-in it once was. Still, I make a point to come back at least every few months. What hasn't changed is the consistency. This remains one of the most reliably excellent restaurants in the Boston area, and still one of my all-time top five--while others that once held that spot haven't quite held up. One thing has changed, though: the Ghost of Mary. Scotty, the former bar manager, created what's still my favorite cocktail of all time. When he left, the drink left with him (by mutual agreement), and while he generously shared the recipe with me, I've never quite managed to recreate it at home. It was clearly meant to be made by the expert. That said, Sycamore hasn't missed a beat. The space is still as comfortable and quirky as ever, the food remains consistently excellent, and the current bar program is in very capable hands. The cocktails are thoughtful and well-executed--just maybe don't remind me about the one I'm missing
