In prior reviews, Alex's place earned five stars. If it wasn't for the extraordinary service, I would have awarded 1 or 2 stars today. Usually, the meat falls off the bone for their ordinarily perfect baby back ribs. Not today. The ribs were tough, required a sharp knife to cut and were severely undercooked. The portion size was nice, the seasoning was excellent as always, but these needed more time on the slow cooker. I brought them home and will have to finish cooking them in my own kitchen. Very disappointing. The coleslaw is excellent as usual. The broccoli came out at room temperature so that the butter I put on them didn't melt. The fresh bread with a choice of regular whipped butter or cinnamon butter was delicious. What bumped this up a full two stars was Carly the waitress. She knew the menu, brought my order quickly and accurately, managed the table and item placement efficiently, brought take-home boxes, was polite and professional, and exemplified what a true professional server should be. The menu has many and varied options. The ambience is both casual and classy. I've been coming to Alex's for many years and this was the first time the ribs ever came out so undercooked. I will come back to give them a chance to redeem themselves.

Alex's Place is legendary for their steaks, ribs, and seafood, but I decided to step outside my usual order this time and try something new: the Blackened Prime Rib Gorgonzola Pasta. I am so glad I did! The prime rib was cooked to absolute perfection--tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The pasta itself was the highlight of the meal; the sauce had just the right amount of kick, perfectly balanced by the richness of the gorgonzola cheese. It's a bold, savory dish that holds its own against their famous ribs. If you're looking to switch things up from the standard grill fare, I can't recommend this pasta enough. Another incredible meal at a local favorite! I also have to say for dessert i have chocolate mint pie and i would say 3/5 because it was too sweet but overall pretty good

Drinks and complimentary cheese and crackers. Crisp crackers and port wine cheese spread.

The food, service and ambiance were all great. Loved the cozy atmosphere. Enjoyed the complimentary cheese and crackers at the bar. We dined at the bar and the bartender, Stephanie, was a delight. My husband had the Beef on a Weck and I had the 6 ounce filet. Both were executed perfectly. So glad we found it on Yelp which we use extensively. If you are in the Batavia, NY area do not miss this gem. Prices were very reasonable, too. Too bad it is over 900 miles from our home in South Carolina.

Finally got to check this place out after several visits to the casino right down the street . I didn't have a reservation, but they said they would be able to accommodate us at a high top table if that was ok . We said sure , not knowing that the high top table was located within an intimate cubby - known as the Hollywood Hideaway . My friend and I laughed so hard , it was not the atmosphere we were looking for, as we just wanted a quick bite to eat before our ride home - but we had fun with it! As for the food - I got a special that evening - Crab stuffed Haddock with a lobster cream sauce . Decided on the mashed potatoes as my side . Also they had a 99 cent shrimp cocktail appetizer, which was more like a shrimp bite ! I really enjoyed my haddock , but what I enjoyed even more was the bite I had of my friend's ribs . They were the most tender yet flavorful ribs I have ever had - no lie ! I'd come back for just those ribs . Our server was a nice young man , who even though he forgot our bread basket , he was pleasant and helpful enough. Definitely a good spot to stop if you are in Batavia - just have a reservation or you might find yourself sitting intimately with your dining partner lol

I like Alex's Place. Anytime we've come here it's been to meet up with friends and it's always been a good time. Tonight we met up with 2 new couples and we weren't disappointed. We had a reservation for 6 and 4pm on a Sunday which we clearly didn't need lol. The parking lot was more empty than not not that was fine. We got a good spot and headed straight to the bar for a drink while we waited for our friends to arrive. The bartender was very nice. We had a few rounds as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive and the bartender even looked up how to make a Vodka Collins for me. She'd never heard of it which wasn't surprising since it's quite the "old lady cocktail" from back in the 1950's lol. But she did a great job. Food: We started with 2 orders of the Philly Cheese Steak Crunch Rolls. They were great and il definitely get them again on my next visit. Whatever the dipping sauce was was sour cream based. It was very good. We also got 2 orders of the friend mozzarella. That was great as well. I liked that it wasn't plain old mozzarella sticks like everywhere else, but instead they were triangle wedges. The breading was very crispy. Panko?? For the entrées I had the bacon cheddar burger with cheese fries on the side, my husband had the prime rib with mashed potatoes, and our friends had a French Dip, a half racks of ribs, and one couple shared the Chicken & Ribs. All were perfect. Service: Our server for table service was nice but we felt a little rushed by her. She didn't even ask if we wanted to start with appetizers. She jumped right to the entrées. But I interjected and ordered the Philly rolls. Then my friend Da ordered the mozzarella. We all had a little of everything g and it was really good. But again with the rushing us, before our appetizers had even come out she asked more than once if we were ready to order our entrées. I don't like to order the entrées too early because 9 times out of 10 they'll come out when you're still working on your apps. Sometimes they come out 5 minutes after your apps come. So I said we'd need a little more time. And I let her know we weren't in a rush. She got the hint and gave us more time. About 10 minutes after the apps came out we went ahead and ordered. And the timing was perfect. The food came out 20 minutes or so later which gave us ample time to visit amongst ourselves. Ambiance: Alex's place would make a great date spot. The interior isn't too bright and it's not too loud to talk. Seems like mostly locals but that's good because then you know it's good. I'd bring out of town friends or family here. And I live in Buffalo so it's a good 30 minutes down the thruway for me. So that should tell you how good it is. TL;DR: I'll definitely go back

Ribs and I think a baked potato (I asked for loaded mashed)

Although the place is nothing fancy, the food was good! It was convenient to walk to from Batavia Downs . Prices are reasonable but I feel like they could have added a salad to the meal instead of making you pay extra since you only get 1 side and the portion is small . Service was just ok even though it was not busy at all.

Fish fry with baked potato. The fish was so good that I wish that I hadn't ordered the potato.

Service, food and water atmosphere was great. Bacon wrapped scallops were so good that my husband ordered a second plate.

First, the menu is chaos. For being reservation only, there's no way all that food is fresh when you're turning away guests and not turning tables- would be scared to order seafood here after the state of the arugula I saw. ambiance: first, the lighting. oh my god. why is there white bright light bulbs in a steakhouse? is this a hospital? also why is the music playing out of a television? it sounded like a guy may have been playing it on his cell phone. the bar seemed nice and i was terrified we'd be sat up top where it looks like you could be interrogated or learn algebra. It is clear that this place was driven by US foods, hell, it's right there on the menu. In 2025, that's unacceptable. Spending upwards of $100 on a dinner for two to be served what is basically mall food court fare is insanity. Even the best chefs couldn't make that distributor look good. Let's start with apps. The antipasto although cutesy seemed like a waste, most people would prefer a roll. The utica greens were decent but no cannellini beans is a huge miss and the sauce was thin. The toasty bread didn't have any brown spots like put that under a broiler cmon. The caprese steak should be an app but the balsamic was flavorless and cheap. Having chicken riggies on the menu with chicken as a $4 add on is crazy. There is no such thing as "riggies," it's chicken riggies. The amount of chicken in the chicken riggies was a disgrace. The veal milanese was fine, highlight being the mashed potatoes which were amazing, but strange to have mashed as an autoside with what should be traditionally served over pasta. the arugula was the worst ive ever seen, what could have been a simple peppery well dressed salad was wet, flavorless, possibly expired? it looked like if you went grocery shopping a week ago and tried to make it work We saw one kind gentleman turned away at the door to a restaurant that could clearly seat him and heard two servers say they only had one table each, that's crazy. another two top tried to get in but the stairs are not ADA compliant so they left. don't sell a french 75 if you don't know how to make it the right way Lots of kinks to work out, bad value and bad menu. The staff was trying their best but set up for failure.

For a steakhouse in a small town i didn't have high expectations. My server Red was very lovely, checking in often and being very helpful. The hostess was also nice and the restaurant itself was nice, and surprisingly not too loud considering it's inside of the casino and was relatively packed during most of my meal. By no means the best steakhouse I've ever visited, but my steak was cooked nicely, my appetizer was good, my drink was potent but pretty well made. Only thing a little lacking were the sides. Mashed potatoes tasted over processed and like they've been sitting under a heat lamp and veggies were covered in seasoning but somehow still lacked any flavor. Neither were "bad" but just not up to par for a steakhouse, when good/great ones usually have very well executed sides typically. Spinach and crab dip was good and was huge! Herb butter on steak was nice, as well as a tasty tobacco onion topper. Their bread rolls are somewhat basic with a little Parmesan on them. Ordered cream brûlée as well and it was good (ate at home and held up pretty well). If you're craving steak and are nearby, worth a visit.

LJS was one of my fav places growing up. Locations are few & far between nowadays, so whenever I…read moreget the chance to stop at one I do. My fam and I weren't far from this location, so we decided to stop here this particular Monday afternoon. The lady at the front was super sweet and she told us this location was the last one in New York State. Sadly, I saw why :( Food: 4/10 (only because my niece ordered from the KFC side and her food was fine), customer service 8/10. We ordered 3 different meals with fish, chicken, fries, hushpuppies, & coleslaw. The best thing we ate there was the hushpuppies. The fish came out very dark and greasy. It was inedible, so we took it back to the counter. The lady apologized and said they've been having issues with the fryer. They made us new fish and it was much lighter and fresher. (We dined in, so my question is, how are you even comfortable serving something like this when you see exactly what we see!!). But, the WORST part was the coleslaw. When you use the spoon to pick up a bite, it was "stringy" and "slimy". Never have I ever seen that consistency before. My 7 year old nephew said "yum, that's looks so cheesy". We smelled it, and it had a bit of a sour smell to it. We're almost finished, so we weren't even going to bother taking it back....UNTIL another customer we saw order left and came back inside to tell them her coleslaw was slimy. She was actually demonstrating with a spoon so the worker could see, and the worker was nonchalant and "yeah, that's just how it is, we make it fresh every morning". I was appalled and couldn't sit there quiet any longer. So i went to the counter with my two orders of coleslaw and agreed with the customer that mine was also stringy, had a slight odor and didn't taste good. That's when the worker finally offered us both different sides. I dont want to see the LJS brand go away. And my prior experiences have never been like this. The people are friendly, the restaurant was clean...but the food quality, terrible. Hopefully they make some changes to stay in business.

The main reason is because this location doesn't fry the fish or hush puppies until you order it. From Texas to New York and i can say with confidence that not all LJS serve their food made to order. For this i will continue to stop in every time i go through Batavia
