Next time, that's definitely what I'm ordering. You can get half a pound or a full pound, and you can also split your order between two flavors. We bought the poke here and got rice separately to make our own poke bowls. It ended up being much more affordable than ordering poke bowls from a restaurant, especially while visiting Hawaii. One thing to know before going: grab a number from the ticket machine when you arrive. The poke counter gets busy, and there were quite a few people waiting when we went. Every day of my trip, I have walked to foodland and had their poke. They have a wide variety of fresh, well seasoned fish. I also love how you can pick your portions and pay at that rate. You can even customize your own poke bowl with rice and your choice of fish! For me, I am a huge fan of their limu tako and fresh salmon poke! I always walk out with a quarter pound of each and it usually only costs 8-10 dollars, which is a great deal for the quality and freshness of their poke! My favorite has to be their fresh salmon poke though, since it is always so fresh, smooth, and has incredible seasoning. The seasoning is a nutty, shoyu seasoning with soy soaked onions and green onion garnish! Simple, but excellent. Another honorable mention would be there wafu ahi poke. It's a new item they have; it's seared ahi but with a smoky, steak-teriyaki flavor. It's something new and bold, but executed flawlessly! Along with their poke, they also have plenty of other great picnic snacks, like their hot lunch plates and spam musubis. You can walk away with a whole meal for your fam with just one stop! Huge selection of everything - cosmetics/skincare as soon as you enter, souvenirs, fruits and vegetables, bakery, aisles of ramen and snacks, etc. Interestingly, the hot food section serves a variety of local Filipino items as well. While conveniently open 24 hours, Don Quijote is not the place to pick up freshly prepared food before 6:00am (despite what Google told me). Jet lag was rough last week and I started work earlier and wanted bento for breakfast. I only saw pre-packaged sushi from the night before. No musubis either. My issue is more with the labeling. If something is simply called "katsu," you may not necessarily know what kind of meat you're getting. I think it would be helpful if the prepared foods were clearly labeled as chicken katsu, pork katsu, etc., because there are people who can't or don't eat certain types of meat. So overall, the katsu curry was pretty good--but buyer beware. Pay attention to exactly what you're buying, because you might not get what you assumed you were getting.

The aisles are fairly wide and while it's busy, I can usually navigate this store easily. I've always enjoyed the selection of items from the bakery section--I like coming here for just a cake slice or single piece of cheesecake sometimes. One thing that does annoy me is that some of the aisles are now locked up and need a customer service associate to come unlock the display and give you your item. When I have a choice, I will wait and go to another place that doesn't lock items up like that. I would rather the store pay more for security and loss prevention than to inconvenience shoppers and make them get customer service to unlock items. That's just me. Good variety of items, helpful clerks at the front. Just wish I didn't need someone to help me unlock my items.

I love the produce department which features imported produce from Japan. Although pricey the quality and taste are Top Notch. Local produce is fresh and vibrant. Really have to hold myself back as I could subsist on Japanese snacks alone lol. Love that freshly milled rice is available here, amongst the myriad of bagged rice choices. Hot and cold food available here, along with poke bar and food items of regional fairs regularly held here. Getting here may pose a challenge with lane closures due to rail construction. Once you get here, finding parking is usually not an issue (save special holidays). She told me she couldn't do the transaction and went off to lunch. I tried getting someone else to help me but he stated he was an operator not a manager. So her co-worker explained to me that it wasn't an issue with my identification. At first, I thought it might have been because the address on my passport wasn't current, so I provided another form of identification along with a piece of mail showing my name and mailing address. Unfortunately, that didn't make a difference. The associate explained that it may have been because it was my first time cashing a check of that amount at Walmart and suggested that I go directly to my bank instead. While I appreciated the associate's efforts in explaining it to me, the experience was still extremely disappointing. I had planned to use the money to buy groceries, but since I couldn't access my funds, I had to return everything I had picked out and leave empty-handed. It was a frustrating and discouraging end to an already long workday. I understand that policies and verification systems are in place for security, but I wish there had been a clearer explanation or an alternative solution to make it right with me. I was so disappointed, I just deposited the check through my own Chase mobile banking. A bank I haven't used in over a year and a half since I moved to Hawai'i. To make matters worse, the employees started discussing my situation in the corner in Tagalog as if I wasn't right there. I wish people didn't do that. Speak in another language thinking other people don't understand you. I speak Visaya, English, and Tagalog by the way. I was born in the Philippines and understand the language... It was just a very discouraging encounter. And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him.
