This is my neighborhood Safeway that's closest for me. I like this location. It's generally well stocked and when an item is out, they will happily get me a rain check. The aisles are fairly wide and while it's busy, I can usually navigate this store easily. I've always enjoyed the selection of items from the bakery section--I like coming here for just a cake slice or single piece of cheesecake sometimes. One thing that does annoy me is that some of the aisles are now locked up and need a customer service associate to come unlock the display and give you your item. When I have a choice, I will wait and go to another place that doesn't lock items up like that. I would rather the store pay more for security and loss prevention than to inconvenience shoppers and make them get customer service to unlock items. That's just me. We were in town running errands and stopped by the Kapahulu Safeway branch. It's a Huge store. Ample parking out front or on the rooftop. Associates and Cashiers were knowledgeable and friendly. Loved their Produce department. Everything looked fresh and vibrant and well stocked. The store overall was very well organized and stocked well. The complex they're located in offers a lot of different venues and eateries. This Safeway also offers a City and County car registration kiosk and a bank. The worst customer service... Came to pick up a cake for someone that's leaving work that at the last minute granted was asked by my boss. She personally asked me to go to Safeway and pick up a half a sheet cake with inscription. Walked into the bakery section and there were three ladies working one went to the back while the other kept working on her cake decorating and never gave me a thought or a glance or the other girl working in the bread area noticed me and ask if I was helped I answered no and kept asking the other girl that she has someone waiting in her section to which she said "wait". Then finally she turned and said "yes"... and I asked her if she had a half a sheet of cake to what she said "no". Not a care not even a concern and this is someone that in the future would consider purchasing a cake or pastry from here sadly will not fund this person's paycheck with such disrespect, this used to be my favorite Safeway, but it has long gone downhill sadly as the vibe for customer service it's not what it used to be. read more

Shopping in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawaii... We were looking for the Waiola brand of Coconut Water at this popular location of Safeway. It was on sale for $4.99... the best price so far! My friend, Cece, is an excellent shopper and knows her prices and good quality, so I trust her. However, we weren't able to find any Waiola Coconut Water in the large, clean, organized, bright grocery store. We were going out the door - ready to leave - when... We asked one of the workers, and he was so kind to look everywhere with us! He really went above and beyond... with great attitude and energy! He searched high and low! I don't usually come to this Safeway, but I was pleasantly surprised how clean, large, and bright it was. There was plenty of parking available close to the front entrance, so that was a breeze. This Safeway is definitely a lot bigger with more services than the Safeway I usually go to. There was a nice deli area where they were making sushi, cheese area, bakery, and freshly prepared foods. I stopped by to pick up a birthday cake for my mom. She loves carrot cake, which they had. They were able to put some personalized writing on it, and everybody in the bakery was very pleasant. They do have self check out, which I appreciated it since I was just getting one item. Overall, a great experience. read more

Very convenient location, has just about everything you need. I placed an on line order to be picked up. I walked, met manager Rhea who released my order. I immediately returned an item as they were way too small. I asked for a refund, and Rhea replied "you will receive an email with your confirmation" I asked for some kind of confirmation number and she replied "the email will have the details" She didn't have a line of customers waiting, so I don't understand why she didn't work on it at that time. My order was picked up on 2/12 it's 2/17 and I have not received any confirmation. Unprofessional & lazy to say the least. Today i decided to check out the Safeway florist located Kapahuluu. My friend just came out of surgery so I thought sending him flowers with a get well soon balloon would be a nice thing to do . Walked into the florist department and got greeted right away . Her name was Keisha and I wanted to say Wow ! The best customer service I received in a long time . I ask her if they deliver flowers and she replied yes but you need to do it online. I told Keisha I wanted to have a florist do everything instead of me having to do all the leg work . First thing Keisha said what's the zip code than she did the ordering for me right on her computer in her department. I told her just a mug with some flowers and a small balloon. She than replied there will be additional charge for delivery fee $12 than I said not a problem. I was a very happy customer the flower will be delivered the next day and the price was right . Extremely nice store, large deli seating area is a plus. Beer selection is minimal at best however the wine and spirits department is above par for most Hawaii grocery stores. Parking is hard to come by and checking out after 9 at night is become more difficult due to the removal of cashier shifts. Safeway had a special for $8 a pound wings today. I was happy that they had my salt and vinegar ones. However, none of the wings were labeled. There were two other people getting wings. We were asking each other is this bbq or is this teriyaki? I told them the orange looking ones were buffalo. One of the deli workers came by and we were like these need to be labeled. His response was I'll just tell you. They guy before me purchased a whole bucket of bbq. When I asked him, he said they were the spicy ones. He had purchased the wrong ones and will be surprised when he gets home. There also wasn't a scale in the area. The same worker goes they'll weight it at checkout. Obviously, they will weigh it at checkout or how else are we going to pay. We would like to see how much we're getting before taking it to the register. The wings itself were great. They were nice size wings and meaty. It had a nice crisp. The ratio of salt and vinegar was perfect. I also added a few pieces of bbq wings. I like to make real ham sandwiches with pricey ham and gruyere cheese. Unfortunately Safeway workers can rarely locate the products or slice very well. That is until I came to Kapahulu Safeway. ELI is the best deli counter worker. He knew where things were, asked me whether the cut was right, sliced my ham and cheese as requested. He was always super polite. I will stop going to safeway on Berentania and start shopping here only! This location also has better quality cheeses compared to ghetto safeway on Beretania. read more

My experience at this Safeway store was quite disappointing because of how the floor employees behaved. They were unprofessional and seemed not to even have the most basic training in customer interaction. There does not appear to be any or a minimal corporate behavior policy at work. Employees perform as if they are in charge of their own rules, and it is an indication of grave problems concerning management and hiring procedures. Rather than being treated as a customer, I was harassed in the process of trying to buy some basic goods. Shopping in this place is no longer a pleasant experience, not even a fast and casual affair. Due to the lack of proper treatment and professionalism, I would not refer to this place and would highly discourage going there. Customers should be cautious when using self-checkout at this location. I experienced employees physically grabbing my personal belongings, such as my phone, and making improper physical contact without consent. This behavior is alarming and completely unacceptable in a retail environment. I recommend avoiding self-checkout entirely and using a staffed register instead. I believe Corporate Management needs to seriously address employee behavior and provide training for local managers as well as new hires, as it seems there is a lack of guidance. Update to thanksgiving prime rib dinner offered by Safeway. It is definitely more expensive to order these pre made meals now. At Safeway they offered it for $99 for a prime rib meal with 4 sides. Not bad I guess. The ordering was simple If you did it online. But the pick up was horrendous. Pick up was at the deli area and they so happened to run a $5 promo for ham so it was very crowded. They could not find my order and when they did they had to give me a ticket to pay first then come back to prove I paid before getting the meal. Today I cooked it. The sides were the microwaveable ones that they sell in the deli section. Nothing special. The prime rib was in a plastic bag and the cooking instruction was to either boil it in water with the bag on or cook it in the oven. I opted for the oven. The taste was really funky. Like pickled meat ? I didn't eat much of it. In fact just one bite. It was inedible. Don't be a fool like me and buy it from here. *** Ilove Safeway! Just not the parking here sometimes during peak hours! Watch out for Friday's too when they have $5 Fridays. It gets a wee bit chaotic in the parking lot. Do you sign up for just for you? Safeway is great. One problem, though: the "seven- or six- layer dip" It was great before, but now someone decided to make the salsa SPICY! Layered dip is supposed to be SMOOTH--beans, sourcream, etc. NO ONE wants to kill all that with spiciness overpowering everything and ruining the dip. THIS is why you do not seem to be selling a lot any more!My kids used to love that dip and we would buy it often (as would others I know) NO child is going to eat such SPICY junk (and we adukts do not appreciate it either). Customer service is the worst! I ordered thru their Safeway app for delivery at 4-5pm today. My order was completed by 4pm and right now it's 8:55pm still haven't received my order and I've been calling the store and have been put on hold forever. I went thru the whole automated message and I kept pressing #8 to speak with customer service but no one has ever picked up. Finally this last call I made I pressed #2 for bakery and someone actually picked up I explained my situation and told her that no one was answering the customer service line and that I wanted to know the status of my order and if it wasn't going to be delivered then I wanted to cancel my order with them and that I would call Instacart and she quickly told me that she would transfer me to cust. Safeway seems to be the main large chain on the Island, so we drove the few miles to get staples for our week long stay. I have to say this Safeway is supper clean friendly cashiers and workers in each department. Unlike other reviews, I did not find too many crowds, and the shelves were well stocked. We come here to buy flowers and sometimes for groceries. Their frozen vegetables and fruits are pretty good. I would stay away from the produce though. It's not fresh at all. So far, everytime I've gone, there rotten or moldy produce on the shelves. I'd also stay away from ordering online and picking up unless you spend $30 or more. I ordered two of the same products and they only had one in stock so they substituted it. I declined the substitution and got charged for just one item which was fine, but the price was high so I looked at the amount again and they charged $3.95 extra because my order was now under $30. On top of that, you cannot edit your order once it's ready nor can you cancel it online. You have to chat with them and they said it will take 5-7 business days to cancel the order and refund me. I've never had a pick up order experience like this before. No wonder I rarely see cars in the pick up stalls. read more

BEWARE, I have used their Drive & Go "Service" 3 times and it's 0/3. I have been given sourdough bread that was completely covered in mold (the green furry kind), I have been given California Organic avocados even though I paid for Haas avocados, which cost more. They were also moldy. Another time, the associate came to my car carrying a bag of groceries and said that one of her coworkers must have given the other bag to the wrong person. Soooo, I had to go into the store so we could see which items I was missing and wait while she went to pick them. I understand that things happen, but the last straw for me was the following day when I wanted to make a sandwich. Once again, the avocados were moldy and were not Haas brand. I drove back to the store to get Haas avocados and WTH??! There are NO Haas anywhere, AND! They have California Organic avocados being displayed as Haas. What a racket. This Safeway is pretty amazing. I've been in here before and I didn't really notice it but during this pandemic time, this Safeway is spacious and allows people to carefully social distance from one another. I came on a Sunday and usually this place is pretty packed but for some reason it was empty. It was nice to walk around and just browse the different aisles and not feel rushed. The layout is so much better than the Safeway by my house. Their produce section is so beautiful. I wish I took a picture. Everything is so organized and easy to find. I also found some great deals while shopping there. They have a 50% off section toward the back of the store. I guess it's all things that they couldn't sell. There was candy, word search puzzles, gum, hair products, learning booklets for kids, and they even had rash guards for kids. I picked up a few packs of gum for my husband. It came out to 75 cents a pack for Orbitz or Eclipse gum. I also got a word search book for like $1.50. Was really thinking of the rash guard but decided against it, it was only $8. The best thing about Safeway is that they have the app. It keeps track of what you buy so it gives you coupons or deals on products you buy. Sometimes the app just gives you free products. So far I've gotten a free gallon of ice cream, free frozen pizza, and free 10 pound bag of potatoes. It's a wonderful reward program that makes me keep coming back to shop there. read more

I've been shopping at this Safeway since it opened many years ago and have always enjoyed the experience. The floral area always caught my attention with its high reaching and colorful displays. At times there were mannequins that reflected the particular holiday posed on the 3 step bases. There has been a change as the displays are low and mundane. Great Super market about 1.5 miles from Waikiki beach....in an area where your only local stores are the ABC store, the Safeway presents a "reasonable " option. The prices are still high though but it is to be expected in Hawaii. The wife and I walked there after hitting Leonard's bakery. Spacious store, plenty of groceries. If you are staying by the beach, Safeway offers a huge variety at better prices. The Uber from Safeway to the Marriott was $10 It wasn't practical to walk back with the groceries. Folks are super friendly and they have a deli with Boars head cold cuts if you want to save some money and make your own sandwiches. read more

I have to admit I come here quite often, and most especially on Friday's, as I LOVE DEALAGES Yo!!! I religiously look at the Mid-Week newspaper ads, and head straight to da $5.00 dollah dealages section, and I make a mental note to come here for da Friday deals. A few things I like about this store - 1. Large & spacious. 2. Clean, & well laid out the displays, as well as the various departments. 3. They have Starbucks inside of this supermarket. 4. They have a bank in this store - Bank of Hawaii. 5. The bakery dept. is huge, and if you haven't tried da Safeway White Cake............it's da bomb! Also da bagels (12 bagels for $5.00 on Friday is a DEALAGES!) 6. Hungry? They have a hot food section where you can make a plate, or get some frrrrrrried chicken, a sandwich, or even sushi. 7. If you have to renew your car registration, they even have a kiosk inside of this Safeway store. Please note, when you use the kiosk, there is a fee that the City & County charges (that is tacked onto your cost) to register your vehicle. Parking here at this shopping complex can be challenging at times, but if you actually took the time to go up the ramp, and park upstairs from the Safeway market, there is so much open parking spaces upstairs! God knows why folks fight over parking in front of the store, when you can be stress-free & just drive up the ramp, park your car in the open parking lot, then catch the elevator down to the store. Go figure? Love this Safeway, and so glad that they are around to serve the Hawaii community. read more

Worst Poke ever. I guess they think if your not local you wouldn't know the difference. I just purchased two different 1 LBS of fresh Poke for $22.99 per pound. When I got home I found half of each container was filled with silver skin (non edible connective tissue). Some parts were 6"-8" long. It's like the served me all the parts you would toss out!
