After working on a house painting project, we needed a break to enjoy a simple meal as we were. Upon entering there's a sign that reads wait to be seated. They offer pick-up and to-go orders so there's an organized setup. The menu is extensive - there's loads of options with breakfast lunch and dinner. Ruby was super kind, attentive, and offered good selections with the menu. My go-to at diners is either a tuna or beef patty melt so enjoyed my beefy patty melt..it had a good bit of onions and mayo. For my side I swapped the fries out for the salad. Best tip would be to go with their house made ranch dressing..it's delicious! I had the thousand island which isn't bad but upon trying the ranch wanted to drink it from how creamy and buttermilk-like it was haha my fiancé got the Philly cheesesteak and the meat and green peppers was dynamite! So good! The side fries weren't salty so appreciated that. Overall loved the comforting energy of the restaurant with an accepting atmosphere to come as you are and with an empty stomach looking to get nourished. I'll be back to try the pie! read more

I ordered the smoke n' combo (dine-in) and the meat lovers special (to-go). It has a diner feel, but is spacious. My server was very friendly. The smoked sausage was definitely the star of the meal. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm still thinking about how tasty it was. There's so much variety in the menu. My only dislike was the awful gas station Tropicana orange juice they served (bottled). The service was quick and friendly. I was a little disappointed in the open face sandwich I initially ordered. It the gravy was very salty and the roast beef was dry. But the waitress was happy to let me order something else from the menu. The French toast was delicious and the eggs and bacon were tasty. I've been trying to find a way & day to stop in Alex's Restaurant for breakfast for about 5 years and I finally had the chance. I had been craving a really good country fried steak for about as long, and I wasn't disappointed when I stopped in. Alex's is a humble diner; no heavy or distracting decoration, just a lot of open space with a slight view of the kitchen. Upon entry, an angelic welcoming voice spoke out, "Have a seat were you like, Honey". It wasn't very crowded when I entered at 8am, but that changed exponentially while I enjoyed my scrumptious morning meal. I said it was a humble place, but that humility was lost on the food and service. In short order, I was greeted at my table by that very voice who spoke to me upon entry (forgive me for not recalling her name), with a menu and a smile. "Do you need a minute to look over the menu?" (My decision was made before I even arrived as I had previewed the menu on Yelp). "No thank you", I replied. "I'll be having the Country Fried Steak with white - sometimes called sawmill- gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast, please. Black coffee to drink". She acknowledged my order with a read-back and was off in a flash, returning briefly with a hot mug of Joe. It was richly flavored, but not bitter; a nice morning eye-opener. Before I could finish that first cup, all my dreams were realized as a plate was set before me with a piping hot combination of protein and starch, and a side of perfectly toasted bread, lightly buttered, with jelly on the side. The Country Fried Steak was so fork tender I had to question the presence of the steak knife wedged beneath it. But instead, I just set it to the side with a slight chuckle and proceeded thru the meal with only a fork. Tender fluffy eggs, slightly crispy hash browns and flaky toast complimented the main course perfectly. I would be remiss not to mention the smooth, creamy, rich white gravy; not too thin or overly seasoned, providing the "icing on my cake" of a breakfast! There was one disappointing moment in my meal that I must share...it ended too fast!! So don't be surprised if my "Check-in" counter reaches "EMPEROR" status at this business, because I know now that I have years of great breakfasts to catch up on. Won't you join me?? read more

Looking for a good diner? Well, you're in luck because here it is! It is a true diner in every sense of the word. It's a diner where the staff works hard together to ensure your wait isn't too long to be seated, your food is perfectly prepared and your overall experience is a good one. The wait to get our food was a long one, but it did not hinder my overall experience here at all because that's what you expect when you walk into a well known establishment where it is packed! I would venture to say that it's normally this busy every day too because the food here is really good! They were very well staffed and the way each staff member works around the clock to do their job is impressive. The hostess, servers and bus servers turn tables quickly (without pushing you out the door) and they do it with ease. It was so refreshing to see that because it seems like a lot of other places have lost touch with that system. We were seated within 10 mins of arriving even though the whole place was slammed (which is unusual and I loved it). I took a peak into the kitchen and because everyone has a specific job in there, they turn out delicious meals as quickly as possible there too, so I can appreciate that it takes a while for my food to come out prepared well. After working in this industry for so long, you notice things like that and appreciate it for it's worth. I got the Philly omelette and it was absolutely perfect! It was everything I wanted! My omelette wasn't overcooked air undercooked & the filling of cheesesteak beef, veggies and cheese were delicious! My husband cleared his whole plate of food too. He got the country fried steak with gravy, 2 eggs and hash browns with a biscuit. I'm telling you! This place hits the spot for a good breakfast! The overall ambiance here is exactly what you would expect from a good mom and pop restaurant that has been around for 52 years. It's warm, welcoming and ready to serve you! It feels very family oriented here and is a great place to bring your whole family. This is such a great breakfast place. If you are looking for some down home cooking, this is the place to be. They offer lunch too and the menu is plentiful. The staff is so friendly. The service is quick and efficient. The food is tasty. Depending when you go, you may have a wait but it moves along and you will be seated in no time. I've found my place, certainly for breakfast going forward --- and lunch? --- have all the confidence in the world it will be just as wonderful. Within minutes of ordering, my meal arrived. Two over easy eggs, crispy bacon and grits, unable to control my urge, I ordered the Biscuts and Gravy as well. The egg yolks were a bright orangeish and a brilliant yellow, with a taste that was fresh, as if from a hen that lives near by. The hen probably had a neighbor -- let's call him Mr. Pig, that may no longer live by Mrs Hen -- the word is he "moved" but made a welcome addition to my plate. Normally don't post reviews, but this time I feel like I have no choice. The hostess **intentionally skipped** my party in the line to be seated. We had been waiting a very long time, and there were several people behind us. The hostess called the party of three that came in right after us to be seated. We politely explained that we had arrived first, which the other party confirmed. But the hostess actually shrugged and said "Whatever, I have three menus in my hand." It was one of the most bizarre and surreal experiences I've ever had (and I spent 5.5 years in Southern California, so that's saying something). It's not even like we had been rude to her; we just gave her our name. That was the extent of our interaction. I really wanted to like Alex's Restaurant, but they made it so hard to. First getting a parking space is really difficult; the parking lot is packed and so is the restaurant when you get in; luckily I was by myself Saturday morning and was able to secure a seat quickly at the bar. I figured as busy as they are this place must be really good! After seating myself at the bar my server came over and took my drink order; coffee and water. It took him a while to get my drinks; which I'm not sure why since the coffee pot was right behind him, and so was the water. After coming back with my drinks he took my food order; country fried steak with eggs over medium, served with toast and hash browns. It took a while for the kitchen to cook my food, but my server never came back to fill up my coffee; luckily there were other servers that walked past noticing my empty coffee cup and topped me off. So I guess they have some good servers, but I ended up with one of the bad ones. Finally out came my food and I was so hungry that I was salivating. The country fried steak was not that great, it was basically a deep fried hamburger patty topped with fake white gravy. And the toast was really dry, but it was some of the best eggs and hash browns I've had; they were cooked perfectly. After this experience I'll still give Alex's another chance, but hopefully get a different server next time; and order something else besides the country fried hamburger. read more

Decent home-cooked food. My friend and I went there for breakfast and everything was okay. We ordered takeout and the wait time wasn't very long to receive our food. We did end up having to wait a little longer because something was wrong with one of our plates. But they had no problem fixing it for us. There is free parking so no issues there. read more
