Excellent! Stopped for lunch. Traveling from Pennsylvania to Florida and stopped here on the way to Charleston. No frills but that southern hospitality and good southern cookin'! Glad I stopped in and didn't go to the chain restaurants off route 52. Waitress made sure I was taken care of! Sad I won't be able to have it again. Try the country fried pork chops!

I ordered the smoke n' combo (dine-in) and the meat lovers special (to-go). It has a diner feel, but is spacious. My server was very friendly. The smoked sausage was definitely the star of the meal. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm still thinking about how tasty it was. There's so much variety in the menu. My only dislike was the awful gas station Tropicana orange juice they served (bottled). I won't order that again. Besides, that I'm definitely going back.

This isn't your "best-burger-in-the-city" contender, but it's a dependable friend. It shows up, does the job, fills you up, and leaves you smiling -- and sometimes, that's exactly the burger you need

Came here on a whim, suggested by out of town guests. WOW! The place was mostly full, but we were served in a very short amount of time and all 3 dishes were wonderful. I'll definitely be coming back. The service here was great and so was the food.

Great breakfast! Wonderful service. We had veggie and corn beef hash omelets, home fries and pancakes.

Always a great meal. Service is always fat & friendly. They employ some of the best servers & cooks in Charleston and should be commended!

Looking for a good diner? Well, you're in luck because here it is! It is a true diner in every sense of the word. It's a diner where the staff works hard together to ensure your wait isn't too long to be seated, your food is perfectly prepared and your overall experience is a good one. The wait to get our food was a long one, but it did not hinder my overall experience here at all because that's what you expect when you walk into a well known establishment where it is packed! I would venture to say that it's normally this busy every day too because the food here is really good! They were very well staffed and the way each staff member works around the clock to do their job is impressive. The hostess, servers and bus servers turn tables quickly (without pushing you out the door) and they do it with ease. It was so refreshing to see that because it seems like a lot of other places have lost touch with that system. We were seated within 10 mins of arriving even though the whole place was slammed (which is unusual and I loved it). I took a peak into the kitchen and because everyone has a specific job in there, they turn out delicious meals as quickly as possible there too, so I can appreciate that it takes a while for my food to come out prepared well. After working in this industry for so long, you notice things like that and appreciate it for it's worth. I got the Philly omelette and it was absolutely perfect! It was everything I wanted! My omelette wasn't overcooked air undercooked & the filling of cheesesteak beef, veggies and cheese were delicious! My husband cleared his whole plate of food too. He got the country fried steak with gravy, 2 eggs and hash browns with a biscuit. I'm telling you! This place hits the spot for a good breakfast! The overall ambiance here is exactly what you would expect from a good mom and pop restaurant that has been around for 52 years. It's warm, welcoming and ready to serve you! It feels very family oriented here and is a great place to bring your whole family. Not sure if they take reservations, but if they don't, I would recommend getting here very early due to how busy they stay.

I've been trying to find a way & day to stop in Alex's Restaurant for breakfast for about 5 years and I finally had the chance. I had been craving a really good country fried steak for about as long, and I wasn't disappointed when I stopped in. Alex's is a humble diner; no heavy or distracting decoration, just a lot of open space with a slight view of the kitchen. Upon entry, an angelic welcoming voice spoke out, "Have a seat were you like, Honey". It wasn't very crowded when I entered at 8am, but that changed exponentially while I enjoyed my scrumptious morning meal. I said it was a humble place, but that humility was lost on the food and service. In short order, I was greeted at my table by that very voice who spoke to me upon entry (forgive me for not recalling her name), with a menu and a smile. "Do you need a minute to look over the menu?" (My decision was made before I even arrived as I had previewed the menu on Yelp). "No thank you", I replied. "I'll be having the Country Fried Steak with white - sometimes called sawmill- gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast, please. Black coffee to drink". She acknowledged my order with a read-back and was off in a flash, returning briefly with a hot mug of Joe. It was richly flavored, but not bitter; a nice morning eye-opener. Before I could finish that first cup, all my dreams were realized as a plate was set before me with a piping hot combination of protein and starch, and a side of perfectly toasted bread, lightly buttered, with jelly on the side. The Country Fried Steak was so fork tender I had to question the presence of the steak knife wedged beneath it. But instead, I just set it to the side with a slight chuckle and proceeded thru the meal with only a fork. Tender fluffy eggs, slightly crispy hash browns and flaky toast complimented the main course perfectly. I would be remiss not to mention the smooth, creamy, rich white gravy; not too thin or overly seasoned, providing the "icing on my cake" of a breakfast! There was one disappointing moment in my meal that I must share...it ended too fast!! So don't be surprised if my "Check-in" counter reaches "EMPEROR" status at this business, because I know now that I have years of great breakfasts to catch up on. Won't you join me??

This is such a great breakfast place. If you are looking for some down home cooking, this is the place to be. They offer lunch too and the menu is plentiful. The staff is so friendly. The service is quick and efficient. The food is tasty. Depending when you go, you may have a wait but it moves along and you will be seated in no time. Your coffee is sure not to run out as they have a rotation going on where they are going around constantly for refills. Just a charming place for a low key meal.

The venue has been updated and has been redone in primarily black and white paint and accents. It's nice - not dated, not trying to look fancier than it is. It's comfortable and approachable. They have taken out many of the tables from the previous spot so you feel like there is room around you to breathe. The chairs are SO comfortable, too. They're inviting and even two hours later we still commented on how good they felt. If you've been to the Riverfront location, the menu will be very familiar. They have added a few new options but have primarily stuck with what they know they do well, which is smart while they're just opening up. We started with the smoked chicken thighs and the deviled eggs (which we ordered when we saw them being delivered to another table and needed to have them!), both SO good. My never-ending pet peeve is when you order something and it comes with too many or not enough for the table - like 5 deviled eggs for a 4-top. For my entree, I ordered the steak frites. I don't eat a lot of red meat, so this was a special treat and they did not disappoint. The medium rare was perfect and the fries were yummy as always. Both of the dessert specials sounded good, so we decided to get them both so everyone at the table could have a bite. I will be back, for sure. My only spot for opportunity was the parking lot. It is VERY dark. I don't know that I would truly feel comfortable walking there at night - there are some trip hazards and it's not the safest if you're alone, so I hope they add in some spotlights and a path.

Are service was good, wait for food wasn't bad at all. Everything was done well... but I honestly didn't like much of it. It just really defined "not for me". Like the French toast was good except it was just drowning in syrup (rather than letting me put it on myself) and the rosemary flavor in the syrup was not to my taste. If this had been on the side I would have tried a bite and then just asked for regular maple syrup and been happy. The mocha donut, same story. The mocha was bitter and if this was on the side I could have dunked my donut in but instead I didn't have a choice. I'm not mad about it. They are clearly aiming for a particular mindset on food. Something different, something unique, something strongly defined. And I can appreciate and respect that and everything was definitely well executed! But I really would have preferred to have the option to have a more traditional set of flavor profiles. J.Ja

Brace yourselves--this is going to be a long one, because this experience deserves every bit of it…read more We recently had the opportunity to do a chef's tasting at Honeysuckle Rose, and from the very first interaction, it was clear this wasn't going to be your average night out. We had a bit of a hiccup to start--we couldn't find our gift card (of course). I called and spoke with Kelleanne, and I have to say, this is truly where the experience began. She was warm, understanding, and genuinely funny, turning what could have been a stressful moment into something easy and even enjoyable. She handled everything with kindness and grace, and it set the tone for the evening ahead. A couple of days before our reservation, we received a confirmation call from James--but not the typical kind. He asked thoughtful, personal questions: who my guest would be, our water preferences (yes, really), allergies, absolute no-go foods, and even a song that held meaning to us. At that point, our curiosity was fully piqued. When we arrived, the space immediately stands out. It's very dark--blacked-out windows, black walls, black ceiling--and it's all completely intentional. Before the meal began, Kelleanne explained that the goal is to create an intimate dinner party atmosphere, where you forget the outside world and fully immerse yourself in the experience. And it works. It really works. At your seat, you're given what feels like an invitation--that's your menu for the evening. Each course is introduced by chef River and sommelier Mary Kate, adding a personal and thoughtful touch to every dish. I won't go course-by-course (we'd be here all night), but just know: every single one was worthy of praise. Chef River is absolutely crushing it. We were lucky enough to sit at the chef's counter, which I highly recommend if you can swing it. Watching chefs River, Ryan, and Trae work was like witnessing a perfectly choreographed performance. After each course, every surface was meticulously cleaned--counters wiped, stoves reset--everything returned to pristine condition before the next dish began. It was as impressive as the food itself. And it doesn't stop there. You notice Cody in the back, carefully polishing each glass and plate to perfection. Every single person on the team is fully invested in making this an extraordinary experience--and that's exactly what it is. What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail and the personal touches. Maybe you get an extra bite, a meaningful story from Mary Kate, or a surprise dessert to celebrate something special. There's an element of the unexpected that makes the evening feel uniquely yours. We left completely blown away. Not just by the food, but by the people. Kelleanne and Ryan are the kind of individuals you genuinely enjoy watching succeed--they bring something special to the entire experience. And a quick note for those who notice the details (like I do): even the bathroom is stunning--beautifully designed and just as intentional as everything else in the space. If you're looking for something truly different, immersive, and unforgettable--this is it. Don't think twice. Book the reservation. We'll absolutely be back, and we're already looking forward to exploring their other concepts.
