So you think living minutes from Pismo, Avila, Shell beach and Morro Bay that we must have had the best fish and chips! Nope, it's Lompoc! That's right ladies and gents, this little gem right here is beyond delicious. Staff here is friendly and the ambiance is quite pleasant and welcoming. We initially came to this place in hopes of finding some authentic British fish and chips. However, we were left disappointed by the bland flavors. Family combo (2.5/5): The family combo we ordered had five pieces of fried fish, five pieces of fried chicken, and 21 pieces of popcorn shrimp, along with hush puppies and coleslaw. Both the fish and chicken lacked flavor without the condiments. The fries were also not very crispy. Clam chowder (5/5): The clam chowder, however, was filled with a good amount of clams. Service is counter service and the interior had a holiday pub vibe with all the Christmas decor. This was a fine meal in a pinch, but not sure if I would come back.

It's been at least 20 years since the last time I was in Lompoc. I was thrilled to see that Alfie's was still open. The restaurant changed for the better. The food stayed delicious. The fish was crispy and not oily. I got the 3-piece combo which was a lot with the fries. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Lompoc.

Found the place through Yelp and so glad I did. I went with the two piece fish and chips. You get two 3 oz pieces of fried fish, fries, and hush puppies. They also put some of the fried batter that falls off the fish when frying. They had three different kinds of malt vinegar which was interesting. One was a little on the strong side, it said it was craft brewed. I went with the brand called Four Monks. The fries were crispy but the hush puppies were awesome.

Stopped by with my family to grab a late lunch. I didn't know what "hushpuppies" were, so I asked the guy. And he gave me not only a detailed description but 2 free samples of these "hushpuppies." We chatted a little bit, and I found he was the owner of the place. He said the restaurant was around since the 1960s, and he loved this town (Lompoc.) I ordered the combo bucket, which included fish, chips, chicken strips, hushpuppies, and coleslaw. And these were de-licious!!! Even my mom, who doesn't usually eat fried food, thoroughly enjoyed this bucket of fried mess. Too bad it's 5 hours away from my house. Otherwise, I'd probably come here at least twice a week! The inside of the restaurant was inviting and spacious, and it looks like a great place for a group hang out as well as family's gatherings.

Quaint small town fish & chips spot. They have wine & beer. Friendly service, but it seems like it's just 1 person manned. Although it didn't take too long for our food. You could tell that the fish was fried in fresh oil because the batter was super crispy, didn't have a weird aftertaste, and it was a beautiful golden brown. Parking is small. Bottles of condiments and table were a little greasy/sticky. Women's restroom was clean but stank. Not sure if that's a sewer piping issue like some places have. Clam chowder was good. $68 for party of 4.

This was a random find for me. I was in Lompoc to check up on a construction project. My stomach was rumbling but the only options in town were tacos, pizza or hamburgers and none of that perked my interest. I stumbled on Alfie's Fish and Chips. I ordered the two piece complete which comes with hush puppies and coleslaw as well. The fish was breaded and fried to perfection. The hush puppies had a nice crunch but not overdone. The employees were friendly and professional and the place is spotlessly clean. Alfie's was a great find. Will definitely eat here again!

I saw this place featured on the local news, so I had to try it out. I thought it was certainly fine, but definitely overrated. The service is counter style, so you order at the counter, find yourself a place to sit and and they let you know when order is ready. They may offer the most authentic English Fish and Chips, but I certainly have had much better elsewhere. The fried fish was very crispy, but not necessarily the tastiest. The fries were also very crispy, but seemed to have the texture of being previously frozen. I ordered the two pieces of fish and chips which goes for $12.79. It's served on a bed of deep fried shredded onions which I've not seen anywhere else. I didn't find this particularly appetizing and perhaps that's what makes it so authentic. This gives the basket the appearance of looking much fuller. Personally, I'd rather they offered more chips to fill the basket.

Last night I had one of the finest seafood casual dining experiences at Alfie's. I am on a week-long business trip for training and staying at a local Embassy Suites in Lompoc. After a long day of work, I was feeling some fish and chips calling my name and chose Alfie's for its proximity and easy-to-find location. From the street, the place has a curb appeal and looks and feels like a nice and fun place to eat. There was no second guessing myself after walking through the front door. The smell of delicious seafood enticed all my senses. The place is well-themed with beautiful décor inside and plenty of seating for dining couple, families, or large groups. The gentleman at the front counter made excellent, knowledgeable dinner suggestions to me based on my preferences he inquired to know before I made an order. I spent just over $50 (including a tip for the nice counter guy) and settled on a Clam Chowder with a Bread bowl, Cajun Catfish Combo with Shoestring fries, an order of Calamari and four Jumbo Shrimp Side entrées. I was offered containers to take ketchup, lemons and other items from the self-serve condiment counter while waiting for my order. When my order was ready the presentation was beautiful. The items were individually properly and neatly packaged in a large bag for take-out. The bag smelled so good and special that I strapped it in my front passenger seat as if it were a child. When I got to the hotel down the road, I unpacked the food on the table and dived in. The food was still hot (as if it were fresh out of the kitchen) and I enjoyed the best dinner ever. The clam chowder was full of flavor; creamy and chunky with just the right amount of crunch with the added oyster crackers. The bread bowl was warm inside with a crispy outer crust. (They even gave me the gluten-doughy-center core from the bread bowl, which I loved!) The Jumbo Shrimp was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The calamari was excellent. The catfish was perfect-- juicy with the perfect amount of herbs and spices and crunch. The meal was enough for two people, but I binged, and the post-meal coma made me feel like a king for the rest of the night. Before this week is over I am coming back for more. This restaurant is a model for what others should strive to become. Thank you!

This is supposed to be Coconut Shrimp. Very disappointed, have never had a bad experience until now.

My first time here ordered the Cajun catfish loved the seasoning the batter was crispy the food comes out piping hot like freshly made. It's a nice ambiance cute England style and the staff was nice. I love all the sauces they had available. I would definitely be back. Only complaint the size of the coleslaw was a bit small. read more

Always a must stop when I am home visiting. Today was a 2 piece complete. Came with fries and coleslaw. Orders two extra hush puppies on the side for a late night snack. The fish is always battered and fried perfectly, never to oily or over breaded. If you are in a rush this place is not for you unless you are just trying to get some of their fabulous clam chowder, as all fried items are cooked to order. The only reason a star is missing is for their fountain machine being pepsi. read more

I've known about this place since 1979 because I always had to drive by it. Today I had a doctor's appointment so I had my wife go with me so we could have dinner at Alfie's fish restaurant. As I drove to the location I have noticed it wasn't there and there was a sign posted that it moved down the street. So I drove a couple blocks more and there she was. From the outside it looked new and cool. We got inside and I thought we were going to be seated but it was a counter so we approached it and the young lady said we could take a menu and sit down and once we decided then we can come up and order. We already knew what we wanted but we wanted to sit down and take a look at all the fixtures. Once we got settled I went up and ordered 2 fish and chips. The 2 sets of orders were on a tray and looked like a million bucks to me, I guess why I call it the money shot. The fish was good but I wish one of my 3 pieces would of had a little more meat to it, they were a bit thin. The steak fries reminded me of Red Robin fries, but they didn't come close to being that tasty. Coleslaw to me didn't have a taste, when it comes to slaw I always try to compare it to KFC slaw, so it's rare I'm ever going to be happy with any other coleslaw I come across. The hushpuppies were great, I didn't know what they were until I bit into them, ah, tasty cornbread. I'm glad they had Sierra Mist, the drink went great with the meal. Inside was great, we chose to eat in the booth, lots of nice fixtures to look at. Its probably best to start eating your fish in like 10 or 15 minutes before it gets cold and soggy. It was an enjoyable visit after 40 years of wanting to come here. read more

Visited in January. Wonderful flaky fish with a light crispy batter. Also liked the shrimp and hushpuppies in wrapping that resembles newspaper. The tartar sauce is so good that they should sell it on the side. We bought canned mushy peas, Cadburys Aero chocolate, and other British food. We come here whenever we are near Lompoc. This compares favorably with fish and chips in Britain! read more

When we arrived at Alfie's for dinner at 6pm, the restaurant was about 3/4 full. After placing our order, we found a table. While we waited for our food, we saw that there were quite a number of people picking up "to go" orders; some were fairly large. After a short wait they brought our food to our table. We enjoyed a delicious leisurely meal while watching a seemingly endless procession of people arrive to pick up "to go" orders. The staff here is hard working, efficient, and friendly, but the star of the show is the fish and chips - they're positively Heavenly! No wonder so many people are placing "to go" orders here :-) read more

Alfie's is one of our family favorite restaurants. We come here often. The food is great and always fresh. The team is always happy and ready to help. Angelina has always gone above and beyond to make our dining experience the best. The restaurant is always extremely clean and it has a really nice relaxing atmosphere. Our daughter loves the clam chowder in a bread bowl. The fish in chips, hush puppies and chicken strips are delicious. Would highly recommend this place to all our friends/family and will continue coming back time and time again. Fish-tastic!! We had an amazing lunch . We're huge fish-chips fan , having been to England my standards are high . We split a 2 piece fish & chips (no sides ) & were amazed with how generous the portions were . The batter was perfect , the fish was amazing . And much to my amazement the have Pepsi fountain drinks & bottled Snapple's , beer on tap & Gatorade Zero . We dined in super clean , spaced seating , sanitizer available . Amazing fish and chips!! Oh my goodness I cannot say enough about this place. Fish was Flakey fresh, battered perfectly and fried crispy greasy in a good way. Flavorful too! Absolutely flavorless, wildly overpriced food. 30 bucks for two people for eating crunchy air. Even their vinegar had next to no flavor (do they water it down? or is it just old?). My god--AVOID. (Totally possible that this is just because of COVID and perhaps their regular staff is on hiatus. What a great spot. Coming into town for work, I couldn't help but see the cool little building where Alfie's is. Girl working the front was very nice and helped me choose what she thought I should get as a first timer. I got the 2 fish complete. That comes with 2 hushpuppies, fries, and coleslaw. I was so happy with the flavor of the fish and breading. Many places fail at this, so I was very happy! Great atmosphere, and friendly staff overall. Stop here especially if you are in town for a day! read more

Love coming to Alfies my mom moved here from England 10 years ago and we love the food reminds her of home, the new place but on Wednesday 22nd of April we encountered one of the loudest employees taking her break in the back of the dining room 6ft from our table. She was on her phone with earphones in speaking so incredibly loud! We couldn't wait to get out of there, which is very sad when we were having a lovely meal. Her voice was so loud and piercing we had to leave. It was so unpleasant, I felt compelled to write this review - my first Yelp review ever. Amazing food, highly recommended - but hope you don't go when this employee is on their break. read more

The fish was great, crispy and fresh. Coleslaw was correctly made without Mayo and was delicious with my added drops of fresh lemon. Draft beer tops it off. A really great British style fish and chips stop. I couldn't stop eating until all 4 pieces and 2 helpings of coleslaw were gone. Next time I'm in the area this place will be it for me. read more

YES! This place has great Fish and Chips in Lompoc!! Well, the chips are not freshly cut or double fried, but they still good. On the other hand, the fish is really good. It seems rather small, with one area for bar seating and small tables, plus a larger dining area "next door" to the bar, but I like the bar ambiance, so it may be challenging on busy tourist days. Luckily, I travel on non-busy days and have always had a good seat. The ambiance is great, with a typical, colorfully decorated pub feel with TVs offering an invitation to relax and have a pint - or two! The menu is varied, and I had planned for what I wanted, but when the server/bartender/boss offered the daily special as an option, I quickly jumped at the chance. The special was a queso dip with house-made chips, and I had to try it! Sadly, I also ordered my usual, the Cobb salad. Sadly, because after the "appetizer" arrived, I quickly realized the full consequences of the saying "your eyes are bigger than your stomach!" The dip and chips were plentiful in both, and for me would have made a great meal on their own. But I was committed and managed to finish the salad. On my previous visit, I had the mac 'n cheese and the Cobb salad, along with a Guinness dark! That was sooo tasty as well! The food at this visit was great, and the service was as well. Sam, who is the owner, bartender, server, and jack-of-all-trades, is always friendly, professional, and efficient, no matter how busy it is, and this visit was the only one outside the kitchen. If you're in the area, give them a try! And leave room for dessert - I have yet to do that, but you can learn from my mistakes!

The Reuben with onion rings was done right--classic, satisfying, and the onion rings were perfectly cooked with a great crisp. The bread on the sandwich had the perfect crisp as well, which really brought it all together. And the standout was the spicy melt burger. My friend ordered it medium rare, and it came out perfectly medium rare--juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly as requested (which doesn't always happen, so that's worth noting). Everything was executed really well, and you can tell they take pride in the kitchen. Easy 5 stars. Would definitely come back.

The food was good, outside seating allowed our furbaby got to hang out with us. Help yourself water, and they had a dog bowl, bonus points! We'll come back next time we are in town to visit family.

The location is on a busy street so as you dine and you look out the window you get to see all the people driving and walking by. It's great if you love to people watch. Some of the plates coming out looked AMAZING. We had the Crab Dip, House Salad, Crab Louis Salad and Clam Chowder. Everything was delicious and satisfying. We even took home a slice of Key Lime Pie. We'll be going back again.

For this town, I think Alfie's stands out. I know most would say "That doesn't say much" however, my husband, daughter of 3, and myself are all huge fans, and we just love our 2 piece complete. There's something incredibly satisfying about the "bland" cole slaw and "bland" fish, as well as the "bland" hush puppies. I believe that if you "KEEP IT SIMPLE" (as they have) you are enclined to be able to alter the taste to what you like. I like to think of them presenting you with a canvas that you may paint for yourself. The food is delicious, and there are so many choices (accouterments) that you can add. If you're thinking about it giving it a visit- You won't be disappointed. The family and staff are as nice and pleasant as can be. If you have a problem, they will fix it with what matters most. AN HONEST SMILE ON THEIR FACE! I believe they value their guests, and I think that's what I like best. read more

After loving Alfie's for a very long time, this is the first time I was disappointed. I had the fish and shrimp and it was very little fish and shrimp it was all fried oily batter, couldn't tell fish from shrimp and the portions of actual fish and shrimp where almost not in the fried batter. So disappointed! But, some how I knew that when they moved they would no longer be the true Alfie's. Why are you letting this happen? I am going to try one more time because I hate to see Alfie's close but it will if they keep up with this quality of food. If I wanted fried batter I could have stayed home and cooked my own and saved money. read more

Alfy's has been a standard of great fish and chips for decades. I've look for a great fish and chip Place throughout Southern California and Alfie still is the best. I wish they had more chains but I'm glad the one that is open is open. Reasonable and tasty who could ask for more. read more
