If I could give him a million stars, I would! My hair was two toned, my natural dark blonde roots and the rest was almost a brassy/yellow color. I had dyed my hair red for a long time and the previous person I went to made me blonde for $500, but it turned out yellow and the roots were still red, it was awful! That's an example of someone who tells you that they can achieve a lighter color in one setting. I wish she had told me she couldn't do it or that I would need more sessions, which is usually the case when you're going lighter unless you want to murder your hair with bleach. So I walked into Alfonso's and told him that I didn't know exactly what I wanted but I told him exactly what I didn't want, and he made a masterpiece! I told him that I just wanted my hair to look pretty natural, be on the darker side instead of blonde, and something to look nice while my natural grows out, so he didn't touch my roots at all. He gave me a bunch of options for what I wanted, some permanent and some not so permanent. I told him whatever He thinks will look the best and He made my look beautiful! He added some partial darker peices and toned all of the yellow into the same color as my roots so that my hair would blend and have dimension. It looks absolutely beautiful! My face looks so much brighter and youthful! He also did an amazing cut, just some thinning, a trim and long layers that are perfect for my square face shape. It has taken me 2 years since moving to Seattle to find a great hair stylist and now I will never go anywhere except Alfonso's! Also, the parking is very easy. As long as you dont park in front of the Groove coffee shop, you won't get towed. Alfonso also texts a map of how to get there before the appointment because he knows it can be confusing! I've never left 1 star or even 2 stars on Yelp. This is the first one. Don't waste your time at this place. He goes on and on about how he "can't do this color" he "doesn't know how many sessions it will take" and "doesn't know what color your hair will walk out with today". Balayage Grey was too light for him to achieve and so was ash brown. Even though I've had brown coloring done in one session multiple times by others and showed him a picture. Unless you want to walk into a service only to be told you are signing up for unknown #of sessions, unknown color from today, walk away. To accommodate his inability to achieve the color I want, I asked about brown which I had done easily by others. Then he accused me of "not knowing what you want" Also the salon is located in the back of the rainier brewery building with a very small scissor sign. You need to park in a lot downhill and hike back. I didn't see this business listed as ok to park and worried about all the towing signs. It's probably ok just remember there's a 2 hr limit according to the towing sign - if you still want to try this place. read more

Alfonso is responsive and able to address my crazy short hair needs. I like my hair to be "youthful"( aka not mature), textured, and contemporary...plus not prissy. That's a lot- and a bit asymmetrical as I surely am not perfect. My hair seems to grow at varying rates needing cuts ranging from 3 1/2 weeks to 5-6 weeks. YELP TO THE RESCUE! I was struggling looking for a hair salon that wasn't focused on solely women's hair, yet was reasonably priced. I didn't want to go to just any barber shop or run-of-the-mill cuttery because I was due for a new hair style, not just a basic cut or trim. A friend recommended a salon up on Capitol Hill but they booked over a month in advance. My overgrown hair was already driving me bonkers, there was no way I had the patience to wait a month. I searched Yelp for "Men's Hair Salon" in "West Seattle, Seattle, WA" and Alfonso's Salon appeared (previously Beauty by Alfonso). The reviews were stellar so I figured I would give it a try--after all, my hair grows faster than weeds so if I didn't like it, I could try again next time. I conveniently made an appointment via Yelp (score!) and Googled more images of the cocky, yet cute Sam Donovan from Project Runway. The day of my appointment arrived and I followed my phone's directions to the location. The "salon" was tricky to find since it's inside a townhouse off the street in a back complex. There is new signage on its way but I was a bit confused on whether I was in the right place at first. Alfonso was busy drying another client's hair when I arrived but was all ready to go by my appointment time. I showed him the two pictures of a hairstyle I had in mind and went to work. Based on the reviews and my experience, Alfonso specializes in all types of hair: Fine (like mine), thinning, thick, male, female, highlighted, and beyond. He gave me some great tips and offered a product, without being pushy at all. I explained that my scalp becomes dry no matter what I use. He suggested an airy sea salt spray that thickens hair and allows styling, I was sold. For a starting price of $20, he shampooed/conditioned my hair, styled it, and offers a 2 week touch-up. I needed my roots touched up and more highlights. However, I had heard of balyage and was curious about it, but had never got it done. Alfonso explained it to me and I decided to get it done! First of all, he is extremely detail oriented and really focused on what your hair needs in order to get it looking how you like it to and getting it healthier as well.
