We came here for dinner after a long day, and appreciated that there was no wait and our food was served quickly. The prices were okay ($35 for two burritos, chips & salsa, a fountain drink and a bottled sparkling water). My husband got a fountain drink which was self serve, and there was no ice in the machine, and of the multiple types of soda he tried to get, they were all just regular soda water instead of coke, Fanta, etc. except for the sprite so that's what he got. I got a topo chico, and I had to grab mine out of a drink fridge, and the fridge wasn't really cold so my water was just slightly cooler than room temp. The bottle required an opener to get the bottle cap off, and i had to ask for one to open it. The chips and salsa were just okay. The chips were a little stale, and the salsa was a little watery for my preference. Our burritos were good and came quickly, but I can't say I'd be back. For the quality of the experience, I'd expect to pay about half of what I ultimately did. read more

I was in the area and have been wanting to try this place for a while. I noticed they opened at 11 so it was perfect timing. I ordered online since there was a coupon. I ordered the enchilada dinner and my boyfriend ordered the burrito dinner. When I arrived, the lights were off and the door was locked. I panicked a bit since I had already paid online. Finally, a lady came and opened the door. She knew about my order, but she didn't speak any English. Luckily I speak Spanish, but if I didn't, I wouldn't have been able to communicate. After she let me in, she started making my order. While I was sitting there, it was cold and smelled a bit like cigarettes. At least she was friendly and I didn't wait too long. The food was good! This is kind of Americanized Mexican food in my opinion. The food is pretty good, I got the enchiladas with green sauce, but I wouldn't be surprised if the green sauce came from a bottle. It tasted good, but I wanted something more authentic. We also got the chips and guacamole and the guacamole was pretty flavorless. Food came out and the staff are very friendly. Small Dining area, but clean and cute. It's pretty good, but definitely better Mexican places out there if you like authentic food. read more

Met a friend in Downtown Downers Grove and happened upon this family owned Mexican restaurant that was open on a Sunday. I tried a steak taco at the suggestion of the person taking my order. It was very tasty. The carnitas one was good too. The atmosphere in the dining room is pleasant and cozy. The woman working that day brought us some warm chips and salsa to enjoy with our meal. The restaurant business can be tough so it is good to see a family owned place providing good food, service and a change of pace from the typical chain experience. These are the kind of little gem places that I appreciate having in downtown Downers Grove. I suggest that they are worth checking out! read more

I'm not from the area but I was around here and came in. And it was great!! I am Mexican so I can be picky when it comes to my food. The portions are big, they pack on the meat which does not happen often. I got the green chilaquiles con carne, that had a lot of meat, not spicy though. The meat and rice had great taste. We tried the dessert "sopaipilla" and that was delicious, it tasted like buñuelos/churros. The service was also great, I think he was the owner but so nice and attentive. I wanted to like this place especially from reading the reviews. I got flautas, guacamole and enchiladas. Enchiladas were ok, edible- but very little seasoning and salt. I added the hot sauces that had the heat but no flavor at all. I made my way to the flautas and that's where the real comedy started. I've never in my life had soft, greasy flautas. They're supposed to be crunchy. I then opened the guacamole to find it was more of an onion and tomato salad with a teaspoon of avocado lol. Pictures attached. Seriously if you're looking for good Mexican food, this is not the place. The french fry / nacho/ green chili thing was terrific. Great mix of flavors, generous portions of all the ingredients. Carne Asada fries I think the menu called it. I came the day the individual portion was the special. The individual portion was actually too big for me to finish and you could easily share it between 2 people as a small lunch or several people as an appetizer. I don't get the concept of an American mexican food place restaurant. I don't mind any race worker working there but i'm not all about making mexican food different from what it already is. We ordered 2 burritos and 2 tacos. Burritos were great, normal burritos but the tacos (carnitas) were just not doing the job for ME. Together tasted like cardboard or some kind of weird taste. The carnitas itself tasted like 3 minute microwaved carne asada (iykyk), flavorless. I couldn't finish it at all without feeling like vomiting. The worker (I don't know her name) was sweet though. I originally came to Downers Grove to eat at Caribbean Corner only to find that they were closed on Monday. Decent food, decent prices, decent service, but very average food. The tortilla chips were very thin and flavorless. I really liked their hot red salsa as it had some real heat and good flavor. Well in the area my wife and I are hungry of course decided to have Mexican food so we decided to hear based on the reviews. My wife ordered two beef enchiladas and two chicken flautas. She also ordered a flan and chips and salsa. I had a steak burrito minus the beans. The food was prepared fresh so I took a little bit longer to come out that said when the food was brought to the table it was piping hot and fresh. I want to comment on the steak in the burrito the steak is probably the best that I've had in quite some time. It was cooked perfectly there was no gristle or fat there was no burnt pieces they were pretty large pieces of steak and all of them every single one were excellent tasting and seasoned perfectly. The lettuce was crisp the Crema was great the tomatoes were delicious. One of the biggest pet peeves I have one eating a burrito is it tends to get watery and the bottom part of the burrito tends to be very wet because it was not a wet mushy burrito it was perfectly dry and delicious from the beginning to the end. My wife said the flan was excellent the chips and salsa are made in the house the chips are light and crisp with a touch of salt. The salsa was chunky with fresh vegetables had a mild flavor it was quite delicious. The Horchata was thicker than we usually like it, but nevertheless had a good flavor. I had a bottle of water. Typical sauces for the burrito one was the green mile the other read a bit spicy but quite good. Overall it's a good meal, you do pay for the quality though and I don't mind paying for Exxon quality steak. read more

FINALLY CARNE ASADA FRIES! Lived in San Diego for a bit and i've been craving this San Diego classic since i've moved back. I've tried a number of places all throughout Chicago, but Alfredo's Taqueria had been the only place so far that has even come close to making it like San Diego does. Definitely ask for their carne asada fries to share. They're amazing. Their tacos were also great, meat is flavorful, beans and rice are great. And this is truly a small business. The owners are so kind and are so incredibly accommodating. They do what they can to make you comfortable and serve you with as much attention. Felt very welcomed. Overall a great experience. I love alfredo's, the food is 5 starts for sure, great quality, authentic. I eat meat very rarely but this is where I go to grab steak tacos with cilantro and onion once a month. I was pretty annoyed after I left today though. I ordered two steak tacos, a side of guac and a side of pico. The guac was small but it was only $1.99. Typical size for most places, good price, but no chips. I figured I clearly just didn't read it carefully, my bad. I also ordered a side of pico. It was $2.49. I was thinking it would be a decent sized container for that price. Nope, it was tiny, like a sauce container size. I'll still continue to make it my go-to taco place but I'll refrain from ordering any sides. read more

Great place to hang out with friends or a family dinner. This place is not fancy, very small business and that's what I love about it. They have great tacos, good service, and good price. Orders are placed with the cashier and they will bring it out to your table. It did take a while for the food to arrive, but it was totally worth the wait. Their salsa and chips are ok, the salsa is a little too spicy for me, but they do have a mild version which isn't bad, but do lack flavor. My usuals are the burrito and tacos.
