It seemed there was confusion between the father and son about who would be opening, and they ultimately decided the store would open at 2 PM instead of 10 AM. I drove 30 minutes and ended up having about an hour of my time wasted. They did mention they would make it right by offering me a deal for the inconvenience. The owner is well versed in the equipment he sells but make sure you know what you want first as it would help the owner make better recommendations. I love mom and pop shops. I had trained for 8 years and then stopped due to life and bills. I recently got back into my roots of martial arts and boxing. So when i decided to look for a new pair of gloves I wasn't going to settle. Iv'e had a variety of gloves that eventually gave out due to training and sparring. I had these authentic leather gloves and I was looking for that same quality. This shop offered a variety of gloves. I of course tried the pro and everlast before but most of those gloves feel cheap. When I tried outslayer which is this shops custom glove. You could feel the quality. The inside has enough cushion for the knuckles and fingers. The outside didn't feel synthetic like the pros/everlast. Time to get back into it! Side note: I train on a heavy bag at home so I went with the 16oz gloves. Even without wraps you still feel the protection which is a plus. They also threw in a free pair of wraps! read more

Amazing small shop filled from top to bottom with any fighting equipment you need. If they don't have it, they are more than willing to order for you. I bought a 20x20 boxing ring from Ali, who brother Owns the fight shop, who built my ring. I was very disappointed with the ring. the Ring still needs adjustments because the plywood doesn't fit correctly. the metal came at one inch which should have been at least 1.5 or 2 inch. I had to hire a welder to add and weld additional metal to the frame because it's not built correctly. I saw pro boxing ring and it looked very steady not what I. Light and received. I ended up paying 8k when all done. i screwed up, I should of just bought a boxing ring from china and took my chances m. it might of been done right. Was recommended by a friend to come and check out the shop since I said I was starting a new kickboxing class. Since I enjoyed kicking boxing/boxing so much I wanted to buy my own gear. I asked if this was Bilt Tuff, as I thought I may have dialed wrong. He said "Yes, but I'm very busy and have to call you back." Then he hung up. While I don't expect five star customer service, a little common courtesy would be nice. My phone rang a minute later and I almost didn't answer. When I said hello, he said "Sorry about that I was really busy." I told him that it was very rude and his reply was "I know I had another G*d D*mn phone call!". I am so happy with the experience I had at Bilt Tuff! I came here because I recently signed up for boxing classes at 24HR Fitness (see review: 24 Hour Fitness Monterey Park), and they've been a blast so I decided I needed to buy my own gloves, pads, and hand wraps. I was slightly skeptical of walking into BT because of the previous reviews, but my experience was anything BUT unpleasant. The shop is a small, mom and pop shop, owned by a nice family. The daughter, Mars, greeted me and immediately helped me look for gloves. Since I'm a newbie, I had to try on several different sizes, but luckily, Mars was patient and she and her father (the owner of the store and one of the nicest people alive) helped me try on 8 oz, 10 oz, and 12 oz gloves. They were patient in helping me understand different sizes, different materials, and different brands. I ended up buying a nice, 10 oz. pair of gloves along with a little boxing glove keychain for my car! I will be definitely coming back to BT when im ready to buy real leather gloves and not synthetic ones. The prices are reasonable and the same that you would find on Amazon, AND they're a small business. Win win!! read more

Been here a couple of times and I can't complain. For fighting equipment like boxing, muay thai, karate and so forth this is the place to go. It beats going to a major athletic store that might not have what i'm looking for, plus price is always a factor. Bilt Tuff is located in the heart of Alhambra and it's a bit small but it's jammed packed with so much equipment. Starting with throwing dummies, punching bags, medicine balls and so much more. On top of all the stuff they have, they also do customized orders and and mass production too. The real kicker is the staff. What do I mean, they are friendly and so informative. They know their stuff and always recommend the best for you. Even when you give them a price range they are more willing to work with you so you come out 100% satisfied. read more

I agree, it's convenient. I'd rather go here than to Chick's or Dick's (whatever it's called...Chicks with Dicks....) sporting goods. Prices are about the same as other sporting goods stores. The fellow behind the counter was nice; helpful and to the point. We've (the husband, mostly) bought other bags from here, and they have held up nicely. I am a little curious to see how long the speedbag lasts us (going off of the other reviewer's warning about the speed bag crapping out a little too quickly.) (An aside note for the rockabilly maven or general badass: They have a lot of really great, tough looking patches in stock, GIANT tigers for $15.00!) Easy to locate, and easy parking. Heck, you can even go pick up some PG Tips at the Indian market right next door after, if you want! read more

If you're serious with getting some great equipment that's practically designed and made by hand and looking for some good advice....check out Bilt Tuff. This is no regular sporting good store that just sells trendy boxing equipment or gear, like Everlast, that are mass produced. Their signature equipment is worth every cent...even though it just a few more dollar$ compared to popular choices(maybe $10-$50). And if they don't have what you're looking for...they will make the best recommendation to buy from. I own one of their Signature heavy bag stands (very sturdy and far better than the other choices and very tall for a tall boxer like me), purchased a 6" double-end bag and a Mexican double-end from them, and I own their Signature focus mitts. Shopped here twice so far. Bought gloves, wraps, & mitts. My impression of the place is it has a good selection of equipment, is highly disorganized, customer service is ok, and the prices are hit or miss. There is a ton of boxing & Muay Thai equipment here! Heavy bags, speed bags, Thai pads, mitts, gloves, wraps, shorts, shoes, etc... Everything is sorta organized by section, but if you are browsing the store, be prepared to do some digging and searching. The first time I came was on a week night, & before the posted close of the posted business hours. Nobody was at the shop. I called the phone numbers I had found online several times. I waited outside for about 10 minutes, until my calls were returned by the "owner", who arrived 5 minutes later & opened the shop for me. The gloves & wraps I bought seemed to be priced reasonably. But the mitts I bought (PRO Boxing Supply) were TWICE as expensive as I've seen online, after having purchased/used them... -_- If you're looking to pick up some supplies in a pinch, check them out. But if you have more time on your hands, I'd say look elsewhere first. read more

DO NOT purchased a speed bag from here! I purchased a speed bag from Bilt-Tuff and it popped after 30 minutes of use. I went back to return it and they claim the bladder is not warrenteed. Weather that is true or not if it popped after one use they should do something in the name of customer service. To make matters worse I know two other people who purchased speed bags from them that popped, AND THEY REPLACED THE BLADDER! Terrible and inconsistent customer service! read more

I've been looking to buy a heavy bag for the apartment, since I work odd hours and can't always make it to the gym. I always thought that a return policy that was prohibitive had to be in writing on the receipt. He refused to give me a full refund pointing at his faded little sign on the glass case. Word to the wise buddy, if you want return business, then you need to stop stealing their money when your products don't meet the expectations of your customer. Bad customer experience. I purchased a speed bag from them, took it home to install it and it didn't work with my space. I brought it back same day, unused and they said "no refunds". I was given store credit with the owner's signature and a note. When I came back later to purchase gloves they refused to honor the credit. Very disappointing. read more

I have been here in the past to grab some boxing equipment and they were very reliable some years ago so I decided to come back to this place as my first choice for boxing equipment. The website and the doors say they open at 10. I arrive early at 9:50 because I was in the area. 10:30 comes around and the place still isn't open. I call the numbers listed on the door which sends me to a cell phone. The owner picks up and tells me that he will be here in about an hour. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited. Three other customers came by but they didn't bother waiting any longer than ten minutes. It is now 12:30 and still no shop owner. That is just poor business and they have lost a customer. read more

I happened to drive by this store at 8:20pm on a Sunday and the open sign was still on. I saw all the gear through the window and I had to check it out. Turns out they were closed at 7pm and had just left the sign on but armin let me and my gf in and shop! I was very happy with the customer service and all the answers he had for my questions. I bought a pair of shin guards, a pair of Thai pads, a 100 pound heavy bag and a pair of mma shorts! He gave me a huge holiday discount of 25% off too! Not to mention the heavy bags and Thai pads are all made in house! He cuts all the material for the bags and sews them up right in the back! He can make any color combination heavy bag. Pink black blue red. I was really impressed. They have everything any martial artist would need at very good prices. The quality is very high as well and has a 10 year warranty. Been meaning to write a review and finally made time. Great place to go for equipment if your local and its of convenience for you, but I would try another place if your looking for a reliable shop. the first 3 times I went to this shop it was closed on its scheduled opening times; visits were various, morning, and early afternoon. The 3rd time I just decided to call the number listed outside the door. The "shop keep" Answered (cell), and was a little confusing, gave me a 'I called at a bad time' type of vibe and said he was on his way. I didn't plan on waiting, so I left, and was called hours later to let me know he was now at the shop. At the this point never planned to go back, until I needed a new chain for my heavy bag. To my surprise on the 4th visit he was open when scheduled, and gave me a "discount" on the chain and a fake gun to practice disarming; which i didn't consider it as a 'discount' , Who's to say he isn't overcharging and you think your getting a "discount" if there isn't prices on any of the equipment. The shop keep totally gave me that vibe just based on his sales tactics "high pressure". Began to try and sell me $2000 equipment, when all was discussed and interested in was chain. After a long sales transaction that felt like a "Timeshare", I finally was able to grab my chain and practice gun never to return again. A new boxing shop opened closer to my place, don't want to give the name of the other till I review it....but cannot imagine it being much worse. read more
