The service just gets worse and worse which is so unfortunate because the food is some of the best around.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I went to Ali Baba last night when I had the choice of many restaurants to pick on a Saturday night. First off the service was very slow and took a long time just to get our water and be recognized. After ordering a few appetizers and entrees, the food finally appeared. My kebbeh was ice cold in the middle. Obviously there were frozen solid then fried. I returned the plate and I think they just threw the two back in the fryer for another minute or two. Our plates came out and the entrees all said hummus included, oops they had forgotten to bring them out. Strike two. My daughters lamb kabob was flavorful and friends lamb also looked and tasted fine. However, my gyro plate was full of meat with little flavor. Sorry, but you need to take pride once again what you are putting on the plate or the close by competition might make it happen naturally. read more

This review kills me - this is one of my favorite local restaurants, the food is great, I eat here regularly and I would give it a five star review, however, I am infuriated by what happened today. Instead of calling in my lunch I ordered directly off Ali Baba's website. When I picked up my order I learned that they had increased all their prices so my $5.33 sandwich ($4.95 +tax) now became $6.40. I questioned the pricing, and although friendly and apologetic, the server would not honor the online pricing. In addition to my email confirmation at $5.33 total, Ali Baba's own website, their take out menu on the counter, the online ordering company Eat24 and even this Yelp page all state the price at $4.95. (Be warned the rest of the menu prices are also increased (and no, it is not a factor of simple time lag, Mediterranean pizzas have been on their in-store menu for probably 2-3 years but have never been reflected anywhere online that I've seen). It's not the extra dollar I'm complaining about, it's the poor management decision to not honor your public pricing when you are the one who failed to update your own menu! Respect your customers (I am a loyal patron here for 10 years!) who care enough about your business to bring discrepancies and concerns to your attention so that you have the opportunity to address the issue personally. In failing to do that I'm sorry but you deserve the public dissemination of this review. read more

Their food is great - I've tried some kebabs, the gyro sandwich, spinach pie and will definitely come back for more. The gyro is only like 5 bucks and one of the better gyros I've had. The drinks (Turkish coffee, mint tea) may be a little overpriced, $3 for a tiny little tea cup like from a little girl's tea set... The baklava is usually awesome though. I liked the decor of place; it's unique, authentic and pretty cool but the one complaint I have is that the tables are too low. Either the tables need to be higher or the chairs/couches lower because otherwise my knees constantly knock the table and I'm not what you would consider above average height.. The servers are good, very friendly. I have noticed that (at least in my experiences) they don't offer extra things like asking "would you like some dessert" at the end of your meal, or offering a side and things like that. Not really good or bad, just an observation. If you haven't been here, it's worth a try. read more

After growing up eating Lebanese food on a regular basis it was nice to find a restaurant to give me those same great dishes. Upon entering it feels very cafeteria like but once you step into the back area it is clear they made a great effort to transport you with the decor. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed the grape leaves and hummus. The down side was the service was a bit slow and they don't serve alcohol. I still enjoyed it and will be back. read more

This is a fantastic place, very authentic terrific dishes. I order takeout every couple weeks and there was an issue with it tonight. But the host (dunno his name) was extremely apologetic and he genuinely seemed he let me down. I go to this place atleast once a week, mostly after my morning bicycle ride on saturdays.... I only go there for lunch as the dinner prices are a little too much (if they removed the salad and subtracted two bucks it might be worth it then)... but for lunch at 5-6 bucks for a relatively large sandwich, and 4.95 for hummus and 3 pitas, always does the trick. Service wise, while apparently some reviewers have had a bad time, the waiters have been fine by me. Once out of my 8-10 times of going there, only one mistake was made and it was remedied... I can only speculate on the comparison to other mid-east restaurants since this is the first one I have been to. The food is tasty, atleast what I have tried so far, the hummus is the best I have had ( the tahini is just there to give you a hint of bitter and then the lemon acidity takes it over). I will say that the decor is very cool, the back room has an "authentic" feel to it....however the dining ware you may be disappointed in if you go for dinner, for lunch dingy plastic plates are fine, but for dinner I would hope for something a little better.... All in all it is a good place, and worth a try (just go for the sandwiches, not the "entree" plates).... read more

Amazing food!!!!!!! From the chicken to the lamb everything is delicious!! My fav is the king combo which has different types of meat as well as veggies! The naan / bread is fresh and it's absolutely to die for with the hummus! Yum! When we called they told us that the service charge was for over 15 people. But then later when we made a reservation they told us the service charge was for 6 people or more. Our party was five people and so we didn't expect a service charge but they give us a 20% service charge and they gave themselves a 30% tip. read more

My Favorite Restaurant and Definitely the Best Food I have had Anywhere! La Zeez in Denver, CO had been my favorite restaurant of all times and had expanded my experience to include more Middle Eastern dishes. When it closed, I was without my now favorite flavours and dishes. Luckily, Fayahd Autobacchi, the former owner of La Zeez, along with his new partner Mahmoud, have opened Ali Baba's Grill in Golden. Each platter is carefully prepared not just for looks, but also for a perfect balance of flavour and taste. The portions are huge for a reasonable price and the decor is interesting. You have not had hummus until you've tried theirs (as well as every other dish on the menu). I have been a vegetarian most of life, but I did try a bite of a few of their meat dishes several years ago and it is the only time that meat has not just been tolerable, but delicious! (not that I would make a habit of a lifestyle change). Even if you are not passing through Golden, the 25 minutes from Denver is well worth the trip. read more

Driving by, you'd think this place was a dive. But once you're in the front door and once you've taken in the impressive decorations in the room to the left, you'll realize you've made a fantastic decision. The hummus is probably the best I've ever had, and their food is authentic and delicious. The rice is amazing as well. Although they don't have a liquor license, they do offer some unique drinks such as a strawberry drink that tastes just like a smoothie but isn't frozen. Tasty food, healthy and fresh (specifically the Taboule and the Hummus - especially compared to store bought) and generous portions. Friendly, helpful staff - seems like a family-run restaurant that truly cares about its clientele. I drive 10+ miles to go there so it is well-worth it to me. Typical order is the chicken shwarma which lasts 2 maybe 3 sessions to finish (always come back from there with leftovers). They typically provide additional pita bread with the appetizers or the entrees; I asked them to toast it and they did and just the thought of dipping hot toasted pita in a plate of fresh home-made Hummus... lawd help me! :-) read more

This is the worst place to eat and I will never go back again. Service was horrible the waiter never comes back to check on you and they don't really listen to your requests, just try to shut you up. We had a gift certificate that we called a day ahead to use to be sure it would work, and they definitely told us it would be no problem. So we went in and they made a big deal about how it wasn't their certificate (which it very much was!) and the other Ali baba location apologized on their behalf and refunding the gift certificate. I ended up paying for way over priced hummus and horrible food with not so much as a small discount for them being incompetent. Nothing. Horrible service. If you want Mediterranean food go across the street to Amir grill and save your money. read more

I used to love this place but lately it's been less than desirable. We occasionally order the meat lovers as takeout. The pieces of meat have been getting noticeably smaller, and because of this the meat is often dried out. This time, the chicken was also undercooked, the rice was burnt, and the hummus was runny. This is an expensive option for takeout and given how mediocre the food was I don't think we'll be ordering again. read more

Wow after all the great reviews I was sure I found a middle eastern restaurant that didn't involve a 13 hour plane ride to enjoy. I ordered the Kofte lunch special and yogurt drink. The drink was perfect and the salad was good (a little warm but good) but the rest of my lunch was less than memorable. The meat (kofte) was salty with no hint of spice and the rice was bland, but the roasted tomato was pretty good. I am sure that I'm not a expert in middle eastern food. I do go to Turkey every year and have some idea of the regional cuisine. Don't get me wrong I know this is not a Turkish restaurant. I think I just expected something familiar, after all most of the foods in the middle east came from the Ottoman empire. P.S. The male servers are more interested in themselves than the guest, service slow at best! read more

Great food. Reasonably priced. The service, however, is sometimes laughably poor. Food often comes out at random times, where one person can get app and entre before some else else gets anything. And, though the waitstaff is always polite when you get their attention, it's as if they're trained to not make eye contact until they're actually at your table. First time out to Ali Baba on the strength of the reviews here, and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere in the upper dining room was fantastic, and its intricacy and detail reminded me of the Boulder Dushanabe Teahouse. Just minutes after arriving, the group at the neighboring table said the same thing. I tried the chicken shawarma and wife had the vegetarian plate, so we got a pretty good sampling. Here's the rundown: Salad - pretty basic, fine but nothing stunning Hummus - Very good, creamy and flavorful. I was already impressed when I happened to get a bite that included tapping the tiny pool of olive oil in the middle of the hummus, and that took it to another level Baba ghanouj - I thought the hummus was great until I had their baba ghanouj. It was absolutely the best I have had. Pita - This is the biggest downfall of Ali Baba. If they made their own (or even found a better source for premade). For me, the stars of the show were the hummus and baba ghanouj, and if I had better bread to dip into it, you could set me up all day and I wouldn't need anything else. Not that it was bad. It just wasn't that good. Chicken shawarma - Good flavor. I liked it, but probably would have gone for some combination next time, since it was a lot of the same thing. Tabbouleh - Never really does much for me, except an occasional palate-cleansing bite. This version was okay Falafel - Was quite tasty. I haven't usually had as much flavor from the outside crust as these had. They were quite tasty Grape leaf - I usually don't care much for this, although I recently had ones at a restaurant in Dearborn, MI (Arab capital of US) that really changed my perspective and showed me that I could like them. This version was more typical of my earlier experience of not really caring for them. Service was decent, not polished, but we got what we needed. All-in-all, I think Ali Baba would probably be in the upper tier of traditional Middle Eastern food in the Denver area. If they'd fix the pita, I would go so far as to say it would be a real gem. read more

I gave it 4, my wife a 3. won't let me do a 3.5..but ours was carry-out. We were running close to closing time. So we placed a carry-out order: Chicken Kabob & Lamb Kabob. Two skewers (4 total), filled end to end with mostly Chicken or Lamb. Lamb nicely braised on the outside while medium on the inside. Chicken was blackened in spots and a tad dry (she prefers dark meat and it was all breast meat). Anyway, much more meat than green pepper and onion...not good, not bad, just the facts - Onion was delicious. Rice was like a basmati or jas/texmati...very good, not the bottom shelf cheap stuff. Each entre included a small salad (I thought ehhh; note it was in the carry out Styrofoam with a heated meal). A side of Humus which was special and a delight. I thought...hey is there cocoa in this? My wife did not pick up on any cocoa and she is much more analytical then I; so who knows. In the end, for $14.00 each, it's a deal and I suspect, given more time, their menu has many more offerings to try. read more
