Every time I come here the owners are so sweet and welcoming. The staff is always patient whenever I ask questions or am curious about how they make things. I don't eat meat, but I love their vegetarian options! The veggie balls and falafels are always so filling. My family always tries to steal my leftovers! The lamb shank was fall off the bone delicious. The falafels where fluffy and flavorful, not like other places where they were hard, crunchy, or bland. The pitas were also soft and fluffy and the hummus was great! The staff was friendly and my wife and I felt welcomed. I had just heard about this new Mediterranean place that opened in Schaumburg, and I knew I had to try it out. I went into this quaint location and I was welcomed by incredibly friendly staff, and I ordered their beef and chicken combo lunch special(with rice), and some falafels on the side. Truly flavorful meat, and presentation was impeccable. I ordered some Baklava for dessert, and it was a perfect end to the meal. Prices were reasonable, and portions were well sized. The place is not clean, the pictures are beautiful on their website but when you get the food it's nothing like the pictures. The kabob was tasty but only one skewer for$ 9.00 the rest was rice and and an old salad that did not look right. I only ate the meat. The pita was different a funny flavor. When the hankering for Mediterranean/Persian food struck, this placed popped up on some of the searches. Reviews were mixed so we knew we were taking a chance, but the pictures were beautiful and they had many of our favorite offerings so we were happy to give them a try! First impressions weren't great: everything was cold to luke warm and no pita was included with the hummus (???) but we stayed hopeful (hello, microwave!) Even after warming, most everything was sadly disappointing. The tea tasted like water and milk, no chai spices detected. The rice and yogurt salad both were very bland and in desperate need of salt. The hummus, which may have been helped by pita, was extremely acidic and left a bad taste in my mouth. The beef shawarma wasn't the worst, but I have had much better. The chicken was about the same. I learned today that I hate Iranian/Persian food. We had lentil soup, baba ganoush , lamb shank, and chicken shawarma. Only the lamb shank was edible, but the smell, curry maybe, was awful. The baba ganoush was slimy and had a pile of green goo on it that was so spicy I almost gagged. The reviews on this place were so good too. I usually love all theses dishes. Oh well. Ordered the chicken shawarma meal and the kofta kebabs and falafel. They were amazing. These guys are the only people in this area who got all the arabic flavors and taste just perfect. No one else could get it right. The shawarma has the garlic paste which makes it delicious. Falafels are crispy and fresh. The fries were fresh and soft even the next day. This restaurant is FANTASTIC! They really care about the food they serve and have a successful catering business (as evidenced by the number of customers picking up large orders). Their caring was evident in the made from scratch falafel. Real chick peas, real parsley, real garlic, oh my! It was perfectly crunchy too! Next I tried the fattoush salad. Slices of crispy, salty, and tangy pickles artfully circled the edge of the plate. The pickles, which tasted both familiar and exotically unfamiliar, were the perfect accompaniment to the divine flavors in the lemony salad. I called on Saturday evening (January 29, 2022) to order 7 chicken kabab wraps for pickup on Sunday (January 30, 2022) right as they open at 11:45am. My daughter threw up three times after eating the sandwich and my son threw up once. My aunt, who also ate a sandwich, was feeling nauseous but did not throw up. When we called to complain, we were told that it was not their fault, it was our fault and that we must have eaten something else that caused us to get sick. Ordered weekend special #2 - chicken shawarma and fahem chicken boneless. The chicken was way too dry, bland and overcooked. Same with rice, they were too dry and hard to swallow. Hummus was no where to be found even the menu claimed it. The salad that came along with chicken shawarma was rotten. This was a pickup order and half of both the dishes went to trash. We are from Iowa and usually eat at Al Bawadi grill every time we come to Chicago and after trying this place, we don't think we will be returning to Al Bawadi grill again! As a Palestinian, this place is as authentic as it gets! Everything is nothing but perfection. The lentil soup is perfect and they even make our traditional taheeni Salad and it tastes exactly like how my grandmother use to make it.
