An excellent lunch buffet in an area surrounded with average and below average restaurants I would go to Ali Baba's any day and often do. They have a huge lunch crowd which keeps the buffet turnover high and food fresh. Nice atmosphere, clean and friendly. $12 is sort of high for a lunch buffet but most buffets are not this good. This is our favorite restaurant in Dallas. I cannot say enough good things about Ali Baba! We come here at least once a week, usually on a week night, and always have the best meal. Sometimes we'll make it on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy their all-you-can-eat buffet -- a great way to go if you're trying Mediterranean food for the first time. For a weeknight or weekend night meal for two, I recommend you start with the Mazza plate - it has babaganoush and hummus, fresh tabouli, grape leaves, olives, fresh tomatoes and onions, and sliced pickles. It's served with plenty of warm pita bread to keep you satisfied. My husband and I always order a size of falafel - 2 pieces - or two pieces of fried kibbi to go with our Mazza plate. The falafel is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fried kibbi tastes like Christmas! Beef, pine nuts, cinnamon and spices are wrapped in a soft bread and fried. They're topped with a sweet tzakiki sauce; what could be better? If we're still hungry, we'll split the Shish Tawook which includes 4-5 large pieces of chicken seasoned with garlic and special spices, a mound of rice and fresh grilled vegetables. Don't be scared off by the quiet atmosphere on the weeknights - just consider it you're special place! I think most people consider this a lunch spot, but the dinner atmosphere can be quiet and cozy. I've passed this place millions of times and it wasn't until byoung and LAN took me there for lunch. Buffet style food pay up front $30 about for 3 people the location sits right off 75 next to the shoddy amf bowling alley (read that review FYI) so u would assume cheap but it's got sone nice lighting and doesn't smell weird the food: deep fried cauliflower - it looks off but I think it has a nice salty buttery flavor with great texture dessert - they only give you two options fruit and some odd rice pudding that you sprinkle on top. This is my second visit to Ali Baba for lunch. My friends and I came in around 1pm on a Friday afternoon and were able to get our food and seated in little time. Hated to bump Fadi's down a star, but I tried THIS place last night and I think it's even better... Babaganoush is a MUST if you are dining here. So good, so creamy, so irresistible I wanted to dive in and swim backstrokes...yes, it's that good - served with fresh, warm, puffy pita bread makes it even better. My boyfriend ordered the shish tawook and I had the falafel plate. No comment on his since I couldn't partake, but he seemed to enjoy it. My falafel plate was really good - 6 big chickpea balls served hot and crispy with tahini sauce, more yummy pita, and hummus. I was seriously stuffed after only 2 falafel - yay for leftovers! Our server was friendly and the atmosphere was nicer than I was expecting - brownie points! I'd like to come for lunch sometime and check out the buffet. Ali Baba is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been there too many times to count (twice this week!). This is a great place to try out new things. The buffet has many traditional Meditteranean dishes, but also has safe items for the not so adventurous. They have tons of meat items as well as a nice salad bar. Costs $13 (drink included), which is a great price for the quality. My Persian buddy says the kafka is "just like dad used to make". I am addicted to the curry chicken. Love the food, the selection is great! Try the baba ghanouj (sp?)! Oh man! and the fried cauliflower! Oh man! The cauliflower is so simple yet soooo good... The gyro meat is wonderful... I could go on and on... buffetlicious! However, I'm not a fan of how they take payment. You pay at the door as you're coming in like a cover charge and they ask you for a tip there... I thought the point of a tip was a measure of the service you *got* and not tipping on faith on the service you may (or may not) get. I love the lunch buffet here, but also enjoy the dinner menu and full bar. The rack of lamb is especially wonderful. There is a great variety on the buffet and the food is fresh and delicious. It's usually crowded but I haven't had to wait for the buffet more than a few minutes. At night it can get crowded and there's not much for a waiting area. Still, the food is worth it. I have been to Ali Baba's other location and decided to go here for lunch with a friend for the first time. Basically people come in and pay for the food up front. They do offer lunch buffet with plenty of Mediterranean food to select from such as gyros, kafta kabob, shish kabob, grilled chicken, hummus, rice, etc. The food is always properly stocked, so customers never have to worry about not having any. Therefore, I had a chance to try some items that I never had before; definitely a big plus!! I do find the ala carte food that I had at other location is better than the buffet style. The pros: A great selection of delicious Mediterranean food including but not limited to kebabs, gyro, kibbe, dips galore, lamb wrapped in grape leaves, rice stuffed grape leaves, tabouli, and veggies upon veggies. There's a station just for bread and an fantastic rice pudding that blew me away. The cons: The place is popular and super crowded. Personally, I dislike the way the everything is set up. It's a recipe for bumping into people left and right with a plate full of food and a constant uttering of "Excuse me. Pardon me. Excuse me." This place was very family friendly so if you're looking for a nice quiet lunch this is not your place. I got no sense of if staff is friendly or not because they don't interact much. Met a friend for her birthday lunch and it was wonderful. We arrived at 11:30a on a weekday, but it was already packed with a line. The hostess moved the crowd quickly and was able to sit a group of 5 ahead of us within minutes. You pay before being seated, which was actually pretty efficient. The buffet was split into 3 stations, which helped to spread out the crowds. The food was wonderful and a great selection of both warm and cold items. Drinks were self serve as well. The zatar bread was so flavorful and buttery, Falafel was nice and crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Gryo meat and chicken was flavorful and plenty. Well worth the $15 for lunch. This is a great place. We ate dinner here a couple of nights this past week. The falafels are probably the best I've ever had. We are vegetarians, so did have any of the meat dishes. The sautéed spinach is delicious. Also highly recommend the baba ganoush and the cauliflower sides. The staff are all cheerful and helpful. I grew up eating this style of food as well as Indian food all my life so I'm super critical of any restaurant I go to that serves these foods respectively as I'm from Afghanistan originally. I can't speak to the lunch buffet since I came here for dinner, but they don't serve authentic foods and they're really not done well.
