Delicious schwarma sandwich wrap. It's huge!
    Liz G.

What a treat. Nice new Syrian restaurant at Coit and Campbell (more on Campbell towards UTD). The menu is fault limited but covers all the Middle Eastern basics of hummus, stuffed grape leaves, kebabs, and Schwarma. Service was very eager and attentive. Process are very reasonable. My huge schwarma sandwich wrap was only around $10. Oh, and their mint tea was great!

good place to check out for their special rice dishes Old Damascus is located in a complex with other restaurants and shops. It has a lot of indoor seating. Servers were friendly. We ordered the mint lemonade, hibiscus lemonade, hummus, kibbeh, chicken kabsa, lamb Mandi, and falafel sandwich. I love trying out new types of drinks, and these were good. Mint lemonade could use a little more of something to get the perfect balance (maybe more mint?). The hibiscus one was nice too, but it could be too sweet for some people. Hummus was good, but I wish the pita bread served with it was a little warmed. Kibbeh had some crunch to to, with delicious meat, but I would prefer it with less dough around the edges. The mains were all great! Lamb was very tender; it fell off the bone. The Mandi rice was my favorite rice. Chicken was very moist and tender too, but I felt like the meat inside could use a little more flavor, but if you add a little of that dakhoos sauce they give with it, it perfects it. Kabsa rice was tasty as well, but it had a little heat in the aftertaste. We also got a cucumber mint yogurt sauce, which I loved! I loved the crunch of the falafel in the falafel wrap. Overall, I would definitely order the rice dishes and wrap again.

Service was great. Food was tasty but not unbelievable. Fine for neighborhood spot, but would not go out of my way. The inside decor was very nice.

We tried this place for dinner Saturday evening at 6pm and we were the only people there. We ordered hummus, falafel, chicken Shawarma sandwich, beef soujouck sandwich, chicken, kebab plate, and the beef kebab plate. Both the kebabs were very dry but the rice that came with it was very flavorful. Our favorite were the falafel.

I ordered online through their website for takeout and it worked really well, my food was ready when I arrived at the restaurant and the order was accurate. The interior decor is really nice with lots of seating and a warm earthy tone. The Shawarma wraps were really good, I liked that they used a unique type of thin pita bread for the wrap, instead of thick fluffy pita or tortillas that I've seen at most Dallas Middle Eastern restaurants. The Tabouleh was really good and so was the Kibbeh. The mint yogurt dip was a little soupy, but I'll give it another try in the future in case I got an off batch.

Loved everything. The chicken, the hummus, the fattoush. The frozen mint lemonade is so good I'd go back just for that. 100% recommend.

Afrah is THE place to be for Mediterranean food - before Greenville Ave became Arab central, before there was anyone, there was Afrah. A beautiful, airy restaurant with gorgeous seating, a bustling dessert case, ice cream center and so many treats to offer under one roof. Afrah is to the Muslim community in Richardson as a glove is to a hand. It truly is a one stop shop for all your nostalgic cravings, and it would be a grave injustice on my part if I didn't stop by here and sing praise to one of the most loved Mediterranean restaurants in the DFW area. We visited here recently for an iftar buffet experience and were very very happy with the food we got. The buffet line was running smoothly, from staff working diligently to hand everyone a tray with napkins, plates and cutlery already set for you. Waiters were going around the massive dining hall clearing plates, making sure everyone had what they needed, seating patrons and asking if everything tasted good. This establishment runs like a literal well oiled machine and I am so impressed. The food was as always out of this world. Carefully prepared menu that satisfies everyone's taste buds. A good selection of classic cold appetizers like the baba ghanoush, hummus, and variety of salads. Always including something unique for a typical Middle Eastern flare. Hot lentil soup available with bowls carefully placed in the vicinity. So many different types of kebabs and freshly made hot pita bread being replaced like clockwork. The buffet had many of my favorite classics like Shawarma meat, beef kebab, chicken kebab. Lamb, chicken stew, baked chicken, everything was present in abundance. They even had salmon which I deeply appreciated as a seafood lover. My only complaint is the food wasn't hot enough which can be annoying with a buffet that is serving so many people during a busy time like Ramadan. Everything tasted absolutely phenomenal and when I returned for dessert, I was greeted with six different types of sweets from all over the world. That's the thing about this place. There's always something for everybody. The dining hall was bustling with not just Muslim patrons, but also a lot of American white patrons who equally enjoy the food here as much as we do. Inclusions of dishes like shrimp pasta, fried fish, chocolate mousse, and other fan favorites is a humble nod to non-Arab customers who love to frequent this place as much as we do. If you are looking for a quality Mediterranean experience look no further than this long-standing Mediterranean Haven. Thank you for nourishing the community.

Super fresh, really flavorful, and a big portion. I like to eat it with the bread and alongside the koobideh, which might not be traditional but I love it. Not sure I'd order it normally, but worth trying. The restaurant was pretty quiet during lunch, just one other table, so service was quick and smooth. I left full and satisfied. Overall, a good spot with generous portions and solid flavors. Not the absolute best Persian food I've had, but still a place I'd come back to when I'm in the area.

The entire outside of the restaurant is lined with tables so you can dine there if you like. The sign on the door indicates they take Covid seriously. Masks are required, and only 5 people are allowed inside at a time. I could only see two customers at the counter as I peered through the front door, so I waited outside until I would have a chance to order. Above the pastry display case was an electronic menu in Arabic and English that flashed through several screens too quickly for me to read. On the side of the drink refrigerator was a menu board in large print. The guy behind the counter was also nice enough to hand me a trifold menu I could take with me. There were lots of choices, but honestly I already knew what I wanted. I had actually been on my way to a different Arabic bakery to get some fresh khubz (Arabic flatbread), when I saw this place. I had been to Albaghdady's old location and figured I would give it a try again. The khubz is baked fresh daily. It is massive in size. I'm talking larger in circumference than an XL American pizza. I ordered a small bag of five not realizing that they would be this huge. As soon as I got in the car, I was tearing into the soft, fluffy saucer of gluten and shoving it in my mouth as I drove home. I just couldn't resist! I also ordered what they call an "Arabic shawarma" and some baklava and another pastry for my husband. The sandwich was far from what I would classify as an Arabic shawarma. It didn't resemble or taste anything like I had eaten growing up in the Gulf Arab states. This was more like an Iraqi sandwich. The flatbread is thicker and fluffier with pinched ends. The meat inside was thick slabs of beef. There were also these vinegary pickles. The sandwich was still quite tasty and I would definitely recommend trying it especially if you are looking to sink your teeth into something other than the standard American burger or tired club sandwich. I'm not a fan of filo, so I didn't eat the baklava. My husband devoured both pieces (one walnut and the other pistachio) and said they were delicious. I did order two pistachio and hazelnut dessert rolls. They looked delicious with the dark brown hazelnut wrapped around the bright green pistachio filling, but the hard rubbery texture was an absolute turn off. I think they used dates to sweeten it and hold it together. I couldn't get over that hard rubbery texture though. It didn't seem right even though I had never tried this sweet before. I couldn't do a second bite and spared my husband the misery by throwing his piece away too. This is a decent place that has some interesting and tasty items on the menu. I might be back because of its very convenient location, but I would probably get something different on the menu next time.

This was a fabulous adventure! We took a few hours to visit Sarahs Market and ate lunch at their S Grill. The market is very small, but every inch of its space is very special. First, we found our way to the back corner and sat at a tiny countertop with only 4 chairs. The counter faces an open top grill, and you're able to talk/ watch the chefs make the food. The menu is limited and pricey! We ordered one steak kabob ($26.00). The steak was served medium rare, very juicy, on top of a long rice (similar to rice pasta), and it was coated in a delicious seasoning completely unfamiliar to us. It came with roasted tomatoes & purple onion. You can select from several sides, we picked the hummus. It was a huge portion, enough for 2 people. The chef was so pleased to have us and was very impressed that we were there to learn. He gave us many "generous" sized samples of the sides and sauces they offered. Everything was made in-house, from scratch with fresh ingredients from their grocery store. It was a wonderful experience! The bakery aspect of this location is a small glass display case full of sweets, like macaroons, cheesecake baklava, and more. Most of them were new to us. The pastry chef gave us a few samples that had us buying a bunch to take home, lol. We strolled through the grocery store part of the market before leaving and bought a few items we already enjoyed. The difference was buying things that are made in-house, like pita bread. You can definitely see, smell, and taste the difference. A FIVE STAR review for their authenticity, hospitality, and delicious fresh food. If you're in the area you've got to try the Grilled Kabobs.
