I saw that @alicerestaurantnyc was hosting a special truffle dinner event for two weeks, and I knew right away I had to make a reservation. I'm so glad I did. My wife and I decided to make it a Thursday night date night, and this place absolutely did not disappoint. Everything from start to finish was delicious. The fresh summer truffles elevated every dish even more, and as someone who hasn't had fresh truffles in quite some time, I was very happy to get my fair share tonight. The presentation was spectacular, as you can see from the videos in this post. I highly recommend any truffle fans check this place out ASAP before the event is over. We stopped by this lovely spot for a "treat yoself" lunch after some recent professional successes. If you're familiar with Maison Premiere and other pretty restaurants filled with old-timey, antique-y knick knacks and lots of plants, then you'll know the vibe of Alice. It's like Sleep No More with a skylight and loooots of pothos. The menu is just as kitschy and fun, full of creative Italian dishes. Try the delicious Beef Tartare to start, full of hazelnut and sunchoke crunch. The Crab Pappardelle Special with bisque sauce was savory and perfectly al dente, but the real winner of our table was the Paccheri Swordfish Bolognese. If you're picturing hearty, meaty, saucy wondrousness.....you've pictured correctly. I kind of feel like all bolognese pastas need to be fish-based now (*cue beatdown from la polizia*). When I was first looking up Alice, their menu reminded me of the creative dishes at Alaluna--and wouldn't you know it, they're owned by the same people! Alice is better, though. Oh, bonus: When we mentioned our special occasion, we were treated to complimentary housemade dark chocolate and pistachio ice-cream. It was delish. Free always tastes so good. read more

(Last visited July 3, 2023.) A little while ago a friend of mine sent me a reel by a popular New York City foodie creator that mentioned a $100.00 3-course lobster dinner that comes with 2 glasses of wine. I immediately sent it over to my wife. We oogled over what a good deal this was and BOOM, we made reservations to check this place out! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on 13th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue is this gem. Of course it's in NYC so there isn't private parking so good look finding a space for your fly ride. Lol. The exterior is very welcoming! The awning is tastefully done, there's exterior seating for the warmer months, but once inside you're transported into a series of different worlds in my opinion! The first room is more relaxed, like a chill tavern with no windows, just the dim, yellow, soft lighting. Then into the next room where we sat was just a bit different. There was a natural skylight above, there are lots of tables packed into this small room though so it's cozy in there for sure! Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but I don't remember having any problems at all. Food: As I mentioned above, we were here for the 3-course dinner! It came with an okay lobster bisque unlike anything I've ever had. Then we had the choice of a tiny lobster roll with fries or a DELICIOUS lobster burrata salad , which I had. For our entree we had the choice of a lobster fettuccine, grilled lobster or for an extra $35.00 you can get a king crab & truffle lobster pasta, which we declined. For dessert a sweet & tart lemon-prosecco sgroppino to top it all off. I'd give the whole thing an 8.1 out of 10. Value: The price was already discussed, but I don't have any idea what the main menu items look like since we were here for the special menu. In conclusion, would I do this again? Alice is a new favorite of mine in the West Village! The food is great but the restaurant itself is beautiful and fun to eat at! Definitely sit in the back patio if the weather is nice- beautiful with tons of plants and natural light from the glass ceiling. Our server was also incredible- super friendly and chatty. Really made us feel at home. We started off with some drinks- the Safe Passage had an amazing tequila/mezcal hybrid spirit and was refreshing with cucumber notes. The blood orange soda was also tasty! For apps, we started with the Black Seabass Crudo (delicious with an amazing tang from the pickled apricots), Scallops (nicely seared), and the Insalata de Mercato (huge portion and full of fresh veggies that the chef picks from the farmers market daily). They also give you complimentary bread and focaccia and olive oil. The olive oil was fantastic- high quality and delicious! Now for the mains- the Bucatini al Limone is a must order!!! It has an amazing saffron flavor from the homemade pasta, punctuated by bright notes of lemon and a subtle seafood taste from the Armatore Colatura (aged fish sauce). Actually one of my favorite pastas in New York! We also got the Gnocchi Astice (gnocchi was well made, tomato sauce was fine, and lobster and burrata were both plentiful and tasty). Finally for dessert we got the tiramisu and a scoop of the Jasmine vanilla gelato- both were amazing, but the Jasmine vanilla gelato was my favorite between the two. It was predominately vanilla but had a subtle hint of Jasmine that lingered- so unique! Our server also comped the gelato as we were celebrating a birthday, which was super nice of them! The restaurant is so sweet and is nestled in the middle of a relatively quiet block. The staff was very welcoming and the bartender gave great wine recommendations (shockingly he didn't recommend the most expensive bottle!). The bar area sits toward the back and is small but was a perfect spot to wait for my friend. We started with a scallop app and the scallops were done to perfection! I attended here for an art show/ brunch and boy did I love it here. The ambiance was big, cute, and was like a vintage cottage. Service was nice and pleasant the servers were so friendly and nice and accommodating. It was such a nice vibe seeing everyone enjoy themselves. The dj was playing the saxophone while playing house music it was so great. The art that was displayed was also visually pleasing. The service was excellent and the host and waiter were both Italian. Ambience was coast and intimate and the olive oil tasted fresh like it had just been harvested... The lobster and truffle pappardelle were delicious (maybe needed a touch of salt) but divine... octopus was tender and the sauce paired well. The bucatini al limone was refreshing and delicious. I came here for a team dinner with colleagues. The restaurant is in a renovated brownstone. It has dark lighting and elegant decor. Would be a nice option for a date. Their outdoor dining area is well heated with heat lamps. They have a free coat check. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but it took a few minutes for them to prepare our table. They invited us to wait by the bar at the back. To start, we had the burrata. This was a unique preparation with grapes, which offered a sweet and juicy contrast to the creamy cheese. It was a tasty dish overall. We also ordered the fritto misto. We asked for them to separate the sweet potato from the seafood, but they forgot. For my main, I had the sweet potato gnocchi. The gnocchi were small and firmer than other preparations so they had a bit less of the "melt in your mouth" factor. They were tasty, but not the most flavorful. For dessert, I had the frangipane. The crust was quite dry, but I enjoyed the center of the tart and the almond frosting. I didn't taste the pears at all. To drink, I had the Firefly. I was worried it would have a strong carrot flavor, but it was actually very subtle. It was pleasantly smoky from the mezcal with a bit of fruitiness. A decent meal overall! read more

Came here with a friend for Restaurant Week brunch. I saw "truffle arancini" on the menu and made the reservation immediately. There was thankfully a lot of availability and I was able to adjust my time that morning with no trouble as I was running late. The vibes, as they say, were immaculate. Everything is beautifully designed and warm and comforting, each room decorated in a different but complementary way. We were seated in the very back where there's a skylight lined with hanging plants. The service was very good, with servers stopping by frequently to check in on us and refill water glasses. My friend and I both ordered the truffle arancini and the cacio e pepe omelette. We hadn't realized that the dessert course wasn't included in the RW menu, so I wish that had been clearer. I got the cannoli and my friend got dark chocolate gelato, which we split. The arancini was some of the best I'd ever had: perfectly fried on the outside and creamier on the inside. The truffle aioli was an incredible topper without being overwhelming. The omelette was delectable but some bites were a bit too cheesy. The salad on the side seemed to be overdressed but ended up being just right. All the veggies were fresh. The cannoli cream was a bit too sweet and the dark chocolate of the gelato just a hair too dark (puts hair on your chest!) but we still enjoyed them. The starter and entree alone were very hearty and filling. Our only problem was that their system automatically charged my friend for extra scoops of gelato, which we were not told was a thing, nor were we given the option for less. Luckily they were able to rectify it quickly and only charged us for one. I appreciated the amount and level of food we got at such an affordable price, and were so happy that we decided to eat there. I'll definitely be back for that arancini. read more

It's unfortunate that Arlo can't accommodate a person that suffers from auditory processing problems. While making a reservation, I asked for an upstairs table because it's always much quieter than the downstairs dining area. I am unable to understand conversations in noisy environments and find them very stressful. The person I first spoke to understood my needs and said that would be okay to have a table upstairs where it is quieter. Shortly after making the reservation, I received a follow-up call that the manager said Arlo can't guarantee the quieter spot. But... the food was just okay. Starting off with the fritto misto, it was lackluster. Lacked salt and seasoning of any sort. Really nothing special. Then we waited a while to get our main dish. We got linguine vongole and a side of sautéed mushrooms. Immediately I noticed both dishes were kind of cold which is a disappointment especially for a pasta dish. Came here for brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday which I was quite stoked about since I've had this place on my radar for quite some time. The restaurant is quaint with majority of the seating to the back. The ambiance was nice and bright, but a tight fit to maneuver around. There was a sizeable party that was going on, so the waiters were quite busy! I ordered off of the pre-fixe brunch menu which came with one app, main, and a glass of prosecco. I ordered the kale salad and the pappardelle bolognese. The kale salad was delicious! Very bright, fresh, and with a nice sweetness from the toasted apples and carrots. The pasta, the pasta (insert sigh) is where I felt disappointed. It was just OK, nothing special. I didn't get the depth of flavors that I was hoping for. It literally tasted like pasta and sauce. The staff here (with the exception of one very overworked server who is clearly holding the place together) is intrusive, and utterly obnoxious. I could barley get a word in with my friend because the sommelier interrupted every five minutes at stadium-level volume with overly personal comments about me/us, all while waving their hands in my face. By the way; it took 3 asks & getting someone else involved to get the glass of wine that they recommended, all because they were too busy holding each table hostage conversationally with erroneous and performative nonsense. Between those shows, someone else came up to half-introduce themselves as our server, half-show off to us just like the somm had. The entire evening felt like my friend and I were dodging the staff to be able to talk to each other and try to relax. And for what it's worth; I like when servers are friendly and talkative! In my 35+ years of living and dining in New York City, I have never had a dining experience as abysmal as mine and my husband's experience tonight at Alice. We were very excited to enjoy the delicious looking cuisine at the establishment, but within minutes of our dinner, we were completely disgusted by the experience. Inexplicably, there were three plastic pen caps inside of one of our water glasses. Immediately upon noticing the pen caps, we cancelled our dinner order and asked if we could pay for our cocktails and leave. While we were given an apology, we could not help but notice the accusatory tone taken by the restaurant staff, who implied that we planted the pen caps in the drinks. I am not sure how we would have benefited in any way from placing foreign objects into our water. I would expect a much higher level of cleanliness from an establishment of this calibre, and indeed, would have thought the staff would have handled this issue more diplomatically. I am sad to report that, while I have been looking forward to dining at Alice, I will never be visiting this establishment ever again. read more

Visited this restaurant for dinner with a friend and we had a really nice time. Service was great and staff were very accommodating. Loved the restaurant's ambiance as well - very whimsical, with some garden seating out front and a beautiful exposed ceiling in the main dining room. Cocktails were fantastic as was most of the food. We tried the burrata which came with a refreshing salad that included garlic scapes and pesto. The fritto di calamari and gamberi which was crispy, delicious, and fresh. The cacio e pepe ravioli (agnolotti) was perhaps our favorite and certainly should not be missed. The only disappointment for me was the special of the day which was a pappardelle with truffle and king crab - the flavors were just not there for me and although I'm a huge truffle fan, these were too overpowering with the rest of the dish. Note they do limit your seating time to 2 hours. We were moved to the bar to continue our dinner once we hit that mark, which was okay since we had already finished our food. The bartenders were really fun - they switched up the liquor choice in some of our cocktails as requested and even gave us shots at the end. At the bar we tried the Viva Amor 10/10, Spirit Bird 8/10, and Rising Star 8/10. Overall, I left very satisfied so I can definitely see myself returning! read more

We came here for their restaurant week special which was $45 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. We made reservations for 7:30pm and arrived 10 minutes early but they still sat us right away. The restaurant itself is beautiful! The decor and the vibe is ornate but cozy. It's also pretty deceiving because from the outside the restaurant looks small but it extends back pretty far. The food was amazing! They gave us a basket of bread at the start of our meal which was already impressive itself. There was an assortment of rye bread, pizza bread, and white bread and all of them were delicious (especially dipped in the olive oil they provided). I ordered the Burrata for my appetizer and it was so fresh with peaches and almonds on top. The peaches gave a nice sweetness to cut the cheese and they also provided a slice of bread as well. One of the best burrata dishes I've ever had. I ordered the Agnolotti Cacio E Pepe (ravioli) for my entree. You can tell that the ravioli was handmade and fresh, plus there was a good amount of parmesan cheese on top. I ate the dish really fast because it was so tasty. Lastly, I got the cannoli as a dessert and it was very good! Two cannolis were provided with freshly piped cannoli cream! The shells were nice and crispy! Overall, I really loved the portion sizes of this meal because I left satisfied and was able to finish the entire meal. I will be coming back to this restaurant to try their other dishes since everything was so good. On a critical standpoint, each course came out a little slower than I would have expected but giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt since it was a busy Friday night. Our waiter also could have been a little more understanding - while we were seated early, it felt like he was trying to rush us to order since the restaurant was so busy and they wanted to serve us and open the table back up as soon as possible. I wish I could review the food at Alice, but I never got a chance to, because after waiting ONE HOUR for our table last Friday, my friend and I decided to go across the street to Cecchi's instead. To set the scene - the two of us had made a 9:15 PM reservation last Friday, eager to try the Restaurant Week Menu. We arrived 15 minutes early like responsible diners, and were met with a dismissive "your table isn't ready yet" by the six (!!) hosts/hostesses gathering behind the stand. It was clear that they were completely slammed, so we cut them a break. But 9:15 PM came and went. 9:30 PM? Still no table. We were then informed that they were still seating the 8:45 PM crowd. Excuse me? 9:45 PM? Still nothing. I also want to mention how rude, dismissive and unhelpful the gang of 6 host/hostesses were that night, all of whom treated us like they were doing US a favor by answering our questions about when our table would be ready. US - the paying customers, who are being asked to pay $48 for risotto and $25 for a cocktail and who have been waiting an hour to be seated? They were doing US a favor by telling us when we can be seated?? And to make matters worse, THERE WAS NOWHERE TO EVEN WAIT! The very, very cramped bar area was completely full, and so my friend and I spent the full hour glued to the back wall behind the bar, constantly sucking in our guts to allow the CONSTANT INFLUX of passing waiters and waitresses. It was uncomfortable, unacceptable and honestly pretty embarrassing. For what's it worth, I clocked a few other groups that were in the same exact situation as us that night. Just awful. Could you blame us for walking out? We were hungry, tired, uncomfortable and PISSED about the whole experience. So we left at around 9:55 PM after an hour of waiting. About 10 minutes later, at 10:05 PM, we got a call from one of the hostesse saying our table was finally ready. There were no complimentary beverages or accommodations offered for the delay. Not even a measly "I'm so sorry for the wait!" Just a resigned and monotone "Your table is ready." The bottom line is that Alice Restaurant is one of those places that thinks it can just get by on its reputation and treat customers like trash because, hey, for every 2 idiots that wait over an hour for their reservation, there's 200 more willing to take their spots. I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. The place is cozy, perfect for both group dining and date night. We ordered a lot of the recommended items from the menu, including the infamous not on the menu special homemade pappardelle with king crab and black truffles. We also ordered a bottle of Sancerre and Sauvignon Blanc. They even accommodated my friend with a gluten allergy by making her gluten-free pasta with king crab and black truffles. Service was amazing. The food was great. For appetizers, we shared the oysters, burrata, and frito misto. All five of us ordered our homemade pasta with king crab and black truffles. The entree paired with the Sancerre was the highlight of the dining experience. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu, Panna Cotta and the chocolate bar to celebrate my friend's birthday.
