What a gem! This place gives old NY vibes from the decor vintage wood floors and windows. We sat at the bar and our bartender was amazing she was knowledgeable friendly and had some great recommendations get the carpaccio steak(we were doubtful) but it was delicious so were the rockafella oysters. Our bartender/waiter helped us pick our wines from an Alpine wine to a St. Veran white to an Oregon Pinot! We loved all of them! My wife enjoyed the pork entree and I had the roast chicken that was fantastic. Looking forward to returning to enjoy bottles of wine off of their well curated wine list. Surprisingly delicious / exceeded all expectations! Would be a great place to bring parents or people visiting. Our waitress wasn't the most helpful / welcoming, but all other staff members were - e.g. going out of their way to make sure we had enough fresh, warm bread. The chicory salad was probably my favorite thing; could eat it every day. The francese pasta was unique / unlike any pasta I've had before. The steak was perfect. Came in for a late lunch early dinner at around 5 PM and the hostess was gracious enough to let you sit without reservation , good sign ( although the the dinner host men came in at 5 and kind of gived me a hard time because the table was reserved for 6:15 , I told him I don't think I'm gonna take that long having dinner. No, their very professional waiter came in and replaced my menu for a dinner menu and said there was no problem me staying here. The food was amazing and the service is very professional. Came here for brunch with my girlfriends on a weekday and they offer lunch special menu. Service was great and the waiter was patiently recommending what's good on the menu. We ordered a few starter to share- Camembert - baguette and cherry gastrique was delicious. Red aubergine purée with burnt toast was a little bit bland. For main course, my hand-cut angel hair Francese was simple and delicious. My friends' strip steak with Bok Choy and Bucatini were just okay, not special. I thought it would be a good idea to go out to lunch for July 4th, so I took to Yelp and other resources to see if any place stood out to me. Anton's did for a few reasons - the interesting yet accessible menu, the location, and the good reviews. That pretty much sealed it, so I booked a table and off we went. Anton's is located in the West Village on Houston Street - even though the weather was great and practically begged us to sit outside, we opted for indoors. The restaurant is somewhat large for a Lower Manhattan spot - the aesthetics are mostly medium woods with tables scattered throughout and a large bar along one of the walls; the decor is mostly a casual vibe. A standout feature of Anton's is that it has a proper lunch menu which contains selections of bites, salads, pastas (they call them macaronis), and mains. We started with drinks because summer and because holiday - I had one of their coladas which was quite good and very much on-brand for the season. We then started with a few apps - the olives with marcona almonds, camembert, baguette & cherry gastrique, sliced round roast with horseradish, and roasted clams. Everything was tasty - my favorite was the cherries, cheese and baguette; I mean, need I say more? The bread was warm too - I was living my best life. For my main I opted for the Heritage Chicken Sandwich - this was a warm sandwich which contained a combo of light and dark meat served on a gruyère-toasted baguette with a side salad. The sandwich was good - the warmth of the toasted bread and chicken made it soft enough to eat comfortably without being too overdone and the side salad was a good complement. I was also given some mustard which I spread on the sandwich that added another layer of flavor. We opted for dessert, and I went with the dark chocolate tart. This was interesting as it didn't have a crust - though the dark chocolate flavor was prominent which I appreciated. What made the tart truly stand out, however, was that it was topped with sour cream; I thought this was odd at first but it really played well with the relatively rich chocolate. Service was good, everyone was friendly and our dishes came out at a good place. Overall, I had a great experience at Anton's - everything was a yes which is even more impressive given it was a holiday. I wouldn't hesitate to return to explore more of their menu - perhaps for brunch or dinner next time. read more

Came here on a date for a late lunch. This spot is known to be pretty popular and usually hard to get into, so I was curious to see what the hype was about. We started with half a dozen raw oysters--$26 for basic East Coast oysters was definitely overpriced! We shared two pastas: the Lemon Fettuccine with fava beans topped with breadcrumbs was solid but it was a bit too oily. The Bucatini Baczynsky was just okay... nothing memorable. The food here was fantastic! We started with the tomato pesto special toast. Was very fresh and delicious. The pea salad was really well dressed and balanced and delicious as well. The angel hair Francese which I forgot to get a picture of was absolutely delicious. Pasta was perfect and the sauce was spicy and flavorful. The roast chicken was cooked perfectly and the skin was delicious. The Apple crisp was on the tart side but I didn't mind. It was awesome. I also love the chocolate tart. They went a touch heavy on the salt but I still loved it. Wish they gave us more of the chocolate cake to balance it and the slice was too small lol. Service was great and i loved the ambiance. I have been hearing about Anton's for ever! So finally today, my friend had lunch: a bief and a chicken sandwich with melted Gruyere cheese, that came with a mix of arugula/frisée salad, vinaigrette dressing--fresh & frisée was crunchy. The bief sandwich seemed fine. My frind loved the french type of baguette, buttered & crisped on the outside- looked like it came from Balthazar. But the "heritage" chicken was short of abominable: pulled dark pieces of meet, many uneven with cartilage remaining, hard to tell where they came from, and certainly had no discernible taste.The gruyere topping was fine ( on both sandwiches) and the portion was generous: two pieces of bread, although for me, it felt more like eating bread & cheese. When asked, the waiter offered an explanation: chicken leg meet. Honestly, if I wanted a drumstick, pulled meet, I wouldn't have come to Anton's. The photo tells is all. The restaurant interior is melancholy, with a French-echo in paintings, books by the cashier... staged, but different. The service was average, bordering on flat. read more

I had brunch at Anton's yesterday, and it was a great meal - my only regret is that I had a bagel too late in the morning and wasn't hungrier at Anton's! A rookie mistake. The restaurant is so charming - wood paneled walls, great windows, beautiful art. It's gorgeous and comfortable. And the service was great also - everyone I spoke with was really friendly and welcoming. I had a Rhubarb spritz-y brunch cocktail that was perfect. More bitter than sweet and perfectly fizzy. A great spring brunch cocktail. And the food! I wanted so much from their menu - their Rarebit, the smoked whitefish salad with rye chips, their baguette with Camembert, oysters...! Unfortunately, I'd eaten breakfast a little later than I should have and wasn't that hungry when I arrived for my brunch reservation at Anton's. I had a matinee off-Broadway performance at 2:00, so needed to do brunch a little earlier than I otherwise might have planned for. So I looked at the menu and thought realistically about what I could eat. And I ordered something I never order. The menu reads: "Chicken Breast 'Waldorf,' Celery, Walnuts, Apples & Turmeric." I ordered it because it was a salad, and I thought it would be on the lighter side. I never order a Waldorf! When was the last time I did? A decade? More? But wow if Anton's Waldorf wasn't a great salad. A GREAT salad. The chicken breast was perfect - so juicy, not dry at all, with a great crispy, well-seasoned skin. The other classic components of the Waldorf were left in large chunks and pieces - a modern take on the classic. I ate every bite. The dressing - all that turmeric - could have not worked. But I loved it. If Anton's can make a salad that makes me close my eyes to savor on first bite, I have to go back when I'm extra extra hungry to try everything else they make. A Waldorf has no business being this good, so I know Anton's has some talented people working there. Not only do I want to go back to try more, I have to! read more

I was strolling through the West Village when I happened on Anton's. I had been craving red sauce Italian and after doing a quick search, I found that it's a place the YELPers enjoy. We ordered the mushroom and leek gratin, the chicories hazelnut salad and scallops and every thing was incredibly delicious! The food here was really good! I really enjoyed the bucatini works spicy red sauce! It had thick chunks of pork in it as well! The angel hair pasta was interesting because the texture was almost like ramen noodles but it was in a light garlic sauce! The pork chop was also really tender and the apple sauce was more like an actual sauce without texture. The service was pretty good! The staff constantly refilled our water and asked us if we wanted to remove plates from the table and they gave us new shareable plates and silverware to course out our meal! In terms of the ambiance, they definitely had great indoor and outdoor space which was perfect for the nice weather! However, inside was incredibly loud! I felt like I had to yell to speak with my friends, but that could be combination of having a packed restaurant but the acoustics made it really hard to have a conversation. read more

I had such high hopes for this place, especially after reading the backstory. The location and ambiance were great, both indoors and outdoors (it was unseasonably warm tonight). The service left much to be desired. We ordered starters including oysters, olives, almonds, pâté, and camembert. The busser started clearing our plates and setting the table for the main course about 10 minutes after the oysters and olives came. We pulled the server aside to let him know we were still waiting on the pâté and camembert. He said he'd fix it and sure enough it came out. Then later the main courses came and my scallops were severely undercooked. I know scallops aren't supposed to be well done and I don't like them that way. But even though these had a char on top, they were cooked less than 1 millimeter through and only on one side. The server never came over to check on us, so I ate everything on my plate except for the scallops. He finally came over to see if I wanted another drink and then noticed I hadn't eaten my scallops. He asked why and I told him, then he said I would have taken them back, but he never actually came back to ask us how the food was. The good parts: the oysters were MASSIVE. Larger than I've ever seen. The castelvetrano olives and salted almonds were delicious - looked exactly like an aperitivo you would get in Italy. The camembert with maraschino cherries was pure heaven and the pâté was absolutely delicious enough to stand on its own even without the bread, which I can't eat due to dietary restrictions. It was perfectly balanced with the Dijon mustard and cornichons. The greens that came with the scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly. Overall might give it another try with operational improvements and sit outside next time. read more

Anton's is a hip restaurant in the West Village with ample outdoor and interior space. It was a beautiful day outside, and we enjoyed dinner in sidewalk seating next to other diners and many, many cute dogs. I had the zero abv spagiato cocktail that was like a sparking Negroni. We also had the tomato and nectarine salad and the cheddar crackers to start. The salad was especially delicious. All the pastas looked tasty but I decided on the francese with breadcrumbs and brothy, buttery, crunchy sauce. My only note is that handmade fresh angel hair is a tough one... it's going to be a softer pasta than if it was dried - so the delicate noodle texture will not be al dente. I might've preferred this dish with the traditional, dried angel hair purely for firm texture sake, but it was a delicious dish. Would definitely come back, a wonderful place to have a glass of wine and bowl of pasta in the neighborhood. Especially with your pup. read more

I've passed by this spot a hundred times and always thought I should try it, and finally did a few weeks ago. We did an early dinner on a weeknight, the bar area was packed and the dining area filled up in time. It's super cozy inside! I got an alright cocktail and then we ordered a bottle of wine we had never found anywhere else! My husband still mentions it. Came here on a Monday night and everything was absolutely delicious! The staff was super attentive, service was quick and the inside is really nicely decorated. For drinks, I got the Hello, Vera and it was super refreshing and not too sweet. I also tried my friend's chilled red wine and it was delicious! To start, we got the oysters rockefeller which was one of my favorite things we got and the cucumbers & snap peas salad which was super refreshing and tasty. For our mains, we got the hand cut angel hair francese, the bucatini baczynsky and the side of whipped potatoes. The angel hair has a ramen like feel to it and was good, but the bucatini was an absolute standout! It's a little on the firmer side, which I like, and the sauce is incredible. The whipped potatoes were also super creamy and absolutely delicious. We ended with the strawberry and raspberry trifle which was super light and refreshing and chocolate chip cookies which were a nice touch to end the meal. I want to start off by noting how charming this restaurant is. You can really appreciate the history both in the ambiance and menu. A lot of heart and soul seems to have been placed to create the perfect dining experience. My partner and I enjoyed a beautiful steak, salad, and pasta dish. Upon entering Anton's, it feels like stepping into a time machine set for "cozy nostalgia." Think candlelit tables, dark wood paneling, and a vibe that whispers, "Forget your worries, darling, and dig into some comfort food." Our server was a real MVP. Upon learning we were getting over colds, she had the kitchen make a special order pot of chicken broth for us. She even gave us some sherry to up the ante. The Hand-cut Angel Hair Francese was a garlic lover's dream. Each twirl of pasta was like a garlicky hug from Nonna herself. And the Shrimp Spaghetti a la Camille? Let's just say it was a crustacean carnival in my mouth. Plump, juicy, jumbo shrimp frolicking in a sea of spaghetti goodness--what's not to love? And the Bucatini Baczynsky was smoky, savory and downright addictive. It was like eating a bowl of pasta by a crackling fireplace on a crisp autumn night--except without the risk of setting your curtains on fire. For postres, we tried the Rum Pineapple Upside Down Cake--which might sound basic, but didn't feel that way. It was moist, boozy, and topped with caramelized pineapple perfection. We had a group of 9 or 10 guys out to do a little team bonding after work and were gathered in the front corner by the bar. We were clearly going to have the highest paying tab of the evening. Unfortunately we cut the evening short there due to the rudeness and blatant inattentiveness of the 2 female bartenders. Tried out Anton's for brunch. Service from the host was super not friendly, making us feel uncomfortable for showing up a bit early for our reservation and offering no greeting. Weird start to the meal, but eventually they sat us. Ambiance is cute though - dark wood, big windows, large bar. We were excited to try their famous martinis-went with an espresso martini and a classic. Had to go with a famous popover to start as well as the shared Bucatini Baczynsky, spicy but delish! What a spot. It's classically American in there. Loud, dimly lit, and cozy. Make a reservation because it gets *crowded* and there's not a lot of seating. I went with a big group of friends and we decided we were going to share all the plates. That was absolutely the move, and I recommend it for anyone. Get the Pâté Grand-mère, don't ask what it is, just try it because it's great. But honestly, not a single bad plate was ordered. And the food came out SO quick! The entire staff was wonderful. This place really caught me off guard. I stopped in for a meal around 5:30pm. I glanced the menu and thought it looked like it lacked options. We were also seated quickly. I admit, I worried it would be a bad experience. What I came to realize is some places have options they do VERY well, and don't need a crowded menu. I ordered the spinach ricotta ravioli and added mushrooms and it was some of the best ravioli I ever tasted. Ly friend got the sea bass with capers and it was perfect. I also ordered raw clams & oysters, which were fresh & delicious. We finished with warm apple crisp ala mode, which was good but couldn't come close to their warm cookies. We had a slight issue that was quickly handled professionally and will be back when in the area. After dinner the place started to really fill up. Even during weekend brunch hours during a really busy service, they were able to accommodate us right away as a walk-in. The staff was friendly and attentive, and at one point offered to move our table because they noticed an overhead rain leak (we were seated outdoors) even though we did not even notice it and were completely unbothered. My friend had the pancakes and water while I got an iced coffee and a croissant. The croissant is from La Cabra and was absolutely delicious-- golden, flaky, buttery with perfect individual layers, as one would expect from La Cabra. The coffee, however, left me feeling disappointed as it was rather acidic and would have tasted burnt if it had not been watered down so much. The coffee menu was also very limited. My friend liked his pancakes, but I thought they were okay, standard fare after having a bite. Anton's also leans pricier for the portions and the quality did not seem to justify the price, e.g. the coffee and two blueberry pancakes that they forgot to add blueberry to for us. read more
