Shout out to Fredericp our lovely waiter who made sure we got our items promptly and correctly. The espresso martini was excellent. The heirloom tomato salad was bright and colorful. The showstopper was the branzino (half of our group ordered it). It had crispy skin that wasn't dampened by the puree. The olives definitely added a tangy complement to the puree and the umami fish. This restaurant is in the Michelin guide and has many fantastic reviews so we were shocked and confused when we walked in at 6:30pm on a holiday weekend to find it nearly empty. Upon sitting and receiving delicious drinks we ordered the beet salad, pappardelle lavender, and white bolognese. As we started eating we became even more confused as to why this place isn't packed because the food is excellent!! We came for dinner and drinks but I think our hostess Ali was the highlight of our evening - she gave us all the best recs, and when it started raining she even walked us across the street to the party with the restaurant's huge out door patio umbrellas so that we wouldn't get wet - what hospitality! We made it to happy hour and availed of the specials . Restaurant wasn't very full when we got there but mid meal , more patrons came. I'm not sure what it is but despite the friendly staffs , ambiance , I felt that this place need a little bit more . On the food - we opted for the tasting menu as this is what we came here for in the first place . I wish they spent more time explaining the dishes but by memory we had ravioli stuffed with ricotta , burrata with tomatoes and another dish . They were food but the texture of the burrata and ravioli were too similar ( perhaps another dish like a salad or another texture would be better ). Second dish was the tagliatelle hand made pasta ( with the pinch of salt, it was better). Bread was served but due to the amount of food , we saved it for the short ribs served with mashed potatoes and corn ( this was our favorite ) . Desserts consisted of gelato which was on the softer side and pannacotta with granita . We also decided to go for the wine pairing which in hindsight we should have just ordered a bottle of our choosing . Went here for a girls dinner on a chilly friday night. The place has a pretty strict reservation policy but was only half full pretty much the whole time. That being said, the space is gorgeous - spacious, well lit, very clean aesthetic. Our server was kind and attentive. We got calamari and fried artichoke to share (calamari was better!). I had the rigatoni white bolo and it was INCREDIBLE. Pasta was a perfect al dente, sauce was creamy and meaty with some greens, but still manages to be delicate and not overwhelming. Came here for a birthday celebration. The service was great - they took really good care of our party of 10. The interior is also super cute - great for a girls' night out or brunch. Now on to the not-so-good stuff... We ordered two pastry baskets, which we were enjoying until my friend found a small rock in the biscotti as she was eating it. The manager addressed the incident promptly and was extremely apologetic and offered to make things right. I ordered the Shashuka for my main and didn't like that the eggs were overcooked. They do NOT offer free refill, but when the coffee is this good, and made fresh per cup, I can understand... For food, we ordered Shakshuka and Il Fiorista BLT. The Shakshuka was kind of a let down. First of all, it was small... and I mean, tiny. The eggs were completely cooked, which was sad. Fritter were nice, but it did not wow me. It didn't have much of the sauce, making this dish to be more on the dry side. Overall, it was a disappointing dish. The BLT was more like a burger, with bacon marmalade similar to ground meat texture. Like a fancy Sloppy Joe. Eggs was done perfectly here. It was very flavorful, each bite was a delight! Since the food portion was rather small, we decided to get some desserts. We ordered Lemon Meringue Tart and Black Cardamom Semifredo. They were both amazing! I came here a few months back for a birthday dinner, and at first they sat us in the front, but later shifted us to a back room area, which we pretty much had entirely to ourselves (yay!). As such, I came with high expectations, expecting Il Florista to showcase the best of its flower offerings, but the flowers seem to be the afterthought. My best friend and I arrived at Il Florista and were seated immediately for our reservation on a Friday night (which we didn't need because the restaurant was far from full). We decided to order the chef's menu instead of the restaurant week menu in addition to the thorn in my side, suddenly last summer, butterfly kiss, and lavender pollinator cocktails. We expected to be served 4 dishes but we were served 10 dishes (I'm not complaining!). We were served the stracciatella, trout tartare, satsuma mandarin + dandelion greens, off-menu fussili, squid ink cavatelli, bread, salmon with beans, hangar steak, semifreddo, and a coconut sorbet with strawberries. Starting with drinks: - The thorn in my side cocktail was a perfect mix of sweet, floral, and refreshing without masking the taste of the mezcal. 10/10 - Suddenly last summer was beautifully presented but tasted very watered down. My best friend informed the waiter and he immediately replaced it with the butterfly kiss cocktail. - The butterfly kiss cocktail was really sweet, and when the cocktail gets warm the sweetness is unbearable. - The lavender pollinator cocktail was strong and the floral notes from the lavender complimented the gin very well. Food highlights: Stracciatella - the sweet green tomatoes and creamy straciatella mixed with the summer squash is great! Very light and refreshing and served with several seeded crackers. Trout tartare toast - very flavorful and seasoned well. Great way to start our meal. Off-menu fussili - the fussilli was coated in a lemon sauce with basil and cheese. When you're not expecting it, the lemon can be overwhelming at first. But the more you eat it, the better it gets. I wish they gave us two servings of this pasta. The average: Satsuma mandarin + dandelion greens - the combination of flavors is great but the balance isn't there. I find that there are too many dandelion greens without enough toppings. Since the dandelion greens are very bitter, if you don't have a bite of the greens with a piece of orange, goat cheese, or raisin, you're gonna regret it. Bread - it's warm and fresh. The taste is fine, nothing to complain about. They also give you a lot. Salmon with beans - the salmon is tender and the skin is crispy. The beans are served on the side. This tasted average. Hangar steak - cooked to medium rare topped with corn, mint, and some unidentified leaves. The dish came together well with the sweetness of the corn and the refreshing mint complementing the beef. Pretty good but not a standout. Coconut sorbet with strawberries - a mildly sweet end with a fruity finish. The coconut sorbet is creamy and light and the strawberries and fresh. The dark chocolate shavings are a nice touch. The duds: Squid ink cavatelli - this tasted fine and I liked the touch of fennel and saffron but there were a few issues with this dish. The cavatelli was slightly undercooked making the pasta a little chewy in addition to the calamari being slightly overcooked which creates the same problem. It would also be nice if the sauce was cooked for longer to bring out the flavors more. Semmifreddo - the texture is very off-putting. There's an unpleasant graininess that is consistent throughout the dish. Even though the dessert tasted fine, the texture could not be overlooked. Despite the rollercoaster quality of the food and drink, the service and atmosphere is impeccable. Our waiter was friendly and professional (similar to how the michelin star waitstaff are). Our waiter periodically came to check on us throughout our meal but was not overbearing. The waiter made sure that the suddenly last summer cocktail was taken off our check (since it was barely touched). The backdrop is chic bohemian and the noise level is reasonable. The style definitely matches the flowershop restaurant. I think I would rate Il Florista a 3.5 but closer to 4 stars than 3. A big, crispy, flavorful, healthy, gorgeous piece of crunch. Get it. Don't regret it. The pastas weren't quite as impressive. The Pappardelle was a tad overcooked, though the lemon sauce was nice. The special of the day pasta--something in a red wine osso buco sauce--was by far the best, but bizarrely served in a flat plate instead of a bowl and no bread, both of which would've been better for sopping. But the cocktails are the real showstopper. Flowers in everrrrrthing! Try the Cheeky Damson (strong), Thorn in My Side, (less strong), Alpine Spritz (light), and Lavender Pollinator (light like a grandma). Flower Power, y'all! Loved the concept of florist meets morning meal--from the floral arrangement centerpiece centered in the entry, to the planters lining the bookshelves and the use of lavender, hibiscus, etc in most brunch plates,--there was a botanical element running thru the decor and menu. Ding'd one star for two reasons: like some other reviewers have mentioned the serving size for brunch is a bit on the smaller side, the shashouka was just about filling for one, while the smoked trout rilette was a bit less substantial for one person. Between two people of moderate appetites, we could have shared another item to be on the fuller side. Also while the floral theme was evoked, the floral/herb elements in the dishes weren't specifically highlighted. It would have been nice to have them incorporated more forwardly. The interior of this place is beautiful and has really nice and calm vibes. The lighting was ambient and the floral decor fit the name of this place (as it should). The service was good and the servers were friendly. A group of 4 of us ordered 4 drinks and 4 dishes. The drinks were good and had sprinkles of floral tastes to them. Pricing for these were pretty standard for Manhattan at around $18 each so it wasn't that big a turnoff. The entrees themselves tasted great but the portion sizes were pretty small and not all that filling for what we paid for them. A simple strip steak ended up costing around $40 with nothing else on the plate. The flavors were great though and each bite was enjoyable (like melt-in-your-mouth enjoyable) but we were still left wanting more. We did not stay for dessert and went elsewhere. So my mom is on tik tok and found this restaurant while she was surfing on tik tok. I'm not going to lie the portion size was small but it was enough! I want highlight something else that i really appreciate the staff for doing. The menu is very unique, my boyfriend and I went for the french toast. It was also unique with the yogurt, oats, and jam to top off the french toast. I ordered the shakshuka, which looked different than the photos (with three roasted potato wedges on top rather than what appeared to be croquettes in the other photos). It was very well seasoned, and the eggs were a perfect consistency. My husband had the burger, which he said was juicy and cooked to order (medium rare), and our friend had eggs over hard, which came with sautéed greens, toast, and crispy potatoes. One thing to note is that their printed menu listed roasted cauliflower soup as an appetizer option, but when we tried to order it, we were told that the soup of the day was something different. They should perhaps consider changing the menu option to soup of the day, or perhaps noting it some other way. Came from a pulsd deal and thought we would try this place out given the positive reviews on Yelp and google. Super disappointed and underwhelmed with the interior, food, and service. The chicken ($34) was beyond bland and unseasoned. Idk what that burrata dish was, it had some stale popcorn kernels on it paired with grapes and pears. The pappardelle was also super bland ($26) not worth the price for some pasta with a bit of cheese on it. Despite the pulsd deal, after tax and tip, it really wasn't that great of a value. Don't know how anyone would pay full price for this place, when we barely thought it was a good deal using a coupon ($89 for the pri fixe + $17 for tax/tip) Service was beyond slow, took almost 30 mins after the app for the mains to come out Dessert was the orange blossom fried donut item.
