Our friends invited us to join them for breakfast at their favorite diner. What a nice treat it was for us. We met their favorite waitress as well, Sabrina. The diner was really like stepping back in time in a really nice way - great ambience, great service, great coffee, and great food. Everything you want a cozy diner to be. Unfortunately, we were having such a good time, we forgot to take pictures of our food. My husband and I split an order of Creamed Chipped Beef over the home fries with an English muffin on the side. It was very good and filling. Our friends had a large Waffle, a Cheese Omelet, and a side of applesauce. We all were members of the clean plate club. Sabrina took excellent care of us. Overlea Diner is a cute little place just inside the city line. With good food, decent pricing and amazing service, they check all the boxes. The old-school steel exterior belies a modern-ish interior. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection!! Only downside is parking can be tricky. Fast lunch on a Sunday at 1. No wait for a seat. Beautiful cook and plenty of workers in this retro restaurant. The Ultimate club sandwich was great and was too big to eat in one sitting. The onion rings came out very hot, had to eat them after the half a sandwich. The spaghetti and meatballs had plenty of meatballs that were gently seasoned and a mild red sauce. Come in for a quick traditional diner meal. We should come back for breakfast because the Greek omelette looks good. read more

Don't let the look fool you! This quaint little diner has great food and excellent service ! The server we had was prompt and very friendly ! We ordered chipped beef, Belgian waffle and a club sandwich. The club sandwich was the best I've ever had at a diner. My son and I were looking for a quick lunch and I remembered driving past the diner. TBH, I was a little nervous when we pulled into the parking lot because the exterior wasn't exactly pristine. The inside, however, was so clean! The waitress was like someone from a 50's diner - she was warm, friendly, very talkative and seemed to know everybody who was there. The portions were HUGE. My son got the Philly cheese chicken sandwich and loved it. I got the spaghetti and meatballs. It filled a bowl the size of my head. The meatballs were yummy and the spaghetti was perfectly al dente. This is my fav lil diner just minutes away from home! They have reasonable prices with friendly staff and fast service. Last time I was here I had a bacon cheddar cheese omelet with home fries extra crispy. This omelet was huuugee and very filling. Home fries were cut into cubes and flavored well. I first ate at this place as a kid -- when I went to the Paramount Theater next door for a "science-fiction, double-feature picture-show, in the back row." Admision was about 35 cent, as I recall. Plus you don't want to know what's in it -- trust me. I ordered whole wheat toast, and guess what! It was really genuinely whole wheat. And the home fries...guess what! Cooked just right with a little extra seasoning -- I'm guessing Old Bay! On their menu: French Fries w/gravy [a Baltimore thing], crab cakes, oysters, meat loaf, liver and onions, and so on. Maybe next time. Service was very good, indeed. BUT.....coffee not so "hot".... What one would want from a diner. Friendly,clean,prompt service, and hearty food. Coffee was good and arrived at our table quickly even though the place was busy for a late Friday morning. My corn beef hash was the real deal as were the hash brown potatoes which came in nice big pieces. My daughters sandwich was piled high and the lettuce and tomato were very fresh. Doesn't look much like it when you walk past, but I was practically dying of hunger so I walked in. The place was the definition of hole in the wall, with a flair for the nostalgia of mid century diners. Then I ordered a burger and wow! A pure cheeseburger in paradise. Toasted bun, superbly grilled patties with just the right amount of char, perfectly melted cheddar, crisp lettuce and onion, with the freshest and juiciest tomato to finish. It was incredible! This delicacy however, was eclipsed by what I now consider the most savory and delicious french fries I have ever had the pleasure if devouring. I simply could not get enough. Was it my hunger, possibly, I was famished, but these fries were just on another level. Freshly cut that morning, deep fried in a secret oil blend, then sprinkled with sea salt and other spices I'm not privy to. I looked at my reflection in the mirror to verify my good fortune, then ordered another serving. I will be returning and as soon as possible. read more

I went here for breakfast on a Sunday. The parking lot was quite crowded, but the Overlea Diner was bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside. We were able to get a booth. Lots of people had their "Ravens gear" on. I almost felt a little pang of pride for my adopted hometown. The diner menu was just what you'd expect: sandwiches like corned beef, fried oyster; the breakfasts were typical as well, and as several people have noted, they did indeed serve scrapple, a.k.a. "everything but the squeal." Nothing fancy--no granola, no yogurt or fruit bowls--just a good old fashioned breakfast in less time than it takes you to sneeze. I had a fried egg sandwich with a side of home fries that came in a dish almost the size of a casserole. It was huge. My dining partner had chipped beef gravy with toast and home fries served in mountains on his platter. It looked to me like my grandma's chipped beef gravy--in other words, home-made, not squirted from a packet. My coffee cup had some out-dated Baltimore advertisements and claimed that the diner had been there since 1946. That I can believe. read more

We stopped in on our way to the Luray Caverns in Virginia. It was really good! We were a little nervous because the parking lot could of been in better shape and the building is old. Just went here for lunch today with my friend. The food was fine, but my issue was with the service. My friend ordered a chocolate milkshake. The waitress brought him a nice parfait glass filled with the milkshake. We were both looking at each other, wondering "where's the metal cup with the rest of the milkshake?" I've been going to diners all my life, and I've always seen a milkshake served in a full glass, with the rest of the shake in the metal mixing cup on the side. Not the case here- and when I looked back to the counter, I saw the two servers pouring the rest of the shake (in the metal cup! found it!) into their cups of coffee and topping it with whip cream. If you're just going to get half of the food prepared for you, a milkshake should cost less than $5.30. But then again, the server also took my order and brought me my salad without even mentioning dressing. I had to flag her over and ask for some after she had already brought the food. Vegetables in the salad were fresh, the chicken on top was really flavorful and good and the chips were super salty in a good way. read more

I love the Overlea diner. It reminds me so much of my childhood, and feels like I'm going over to my grandparents for breakfast. Aside from nostalgia, they also offer some surprisingly good diner food (great spot for breakfast) and for a good price, complete with Baltimore-accented waitresses, and a touch of attitude. No frills at all, just a few outdated booths in a shiny metal rectangular box of a building. The only downside is that the silverware is terrible and flimsy. read more

I went here for breakfast. I got breakfast. Basically, what I'm saying is, it was fairly unremarkable. It didn't wow me. It didn't disappoint. The food was OK. The service was pretty good. The coffee was hot and brown...pretty weak, but hot and brown. Doing his best to step out of the box and order something super-crazy, my husband got the peanut butter pancakes. I ate with an old friend of the family - as in, a long time, as this man is not "old" at all :) He, along with my dad, used to go here quite often (in the 1950's), and Hose (yes, really, he goes by "Hose") still does return fairly often, as he still lives in the area. My son was thrilled with the French toast - cinnamon, powdered sugar, thick, soft-fried toast - and ate the whole thing, along with the "tender bacon" he specifically hoped and I asked for. Came to try breakfast due to reviews. Was not disappointed. The waffles were cooked well though I personally prefer mine to have a sweeter batter. Home fries were wonderfully seasoned and eggs over easy were cooked nicely (no runny whites). They have good bacon and know how to cook it to order ( i wanted mine soft). Been coming to the diner since I was a little kid. My buddy Johno and I would sit in the back corner table(that is the only table we sit at) and eat cream chipped beef and drink as many sprites as we could.
