Large portions and great food. Service was quick and friendly. In the background they played 50's music which was nice to hear. They also have tables outside. Enjoy

The response from the restaurant to a review that was left advising how the unsatisfactory experience was.

On top of the poor food quality and the unprofessional way management treats feedback, I was shocked by the lack of basic accessibility at this establishment. The space is completely run-down, dirty, and not wheelchair accessible, making it unwelcoming to many potential customers. It's clear why the place was empty, and their habit of gaslighting anyone who points out these issues only highlights why this business is failing. Avo

BEWARE new owner. No breakfast buffet. Long wait - 45 minutes for French toast and there were only 1/3 full. I ordered BLT. No lettuce only agrula. See photo. No longer a quick spot for breakfast when you are catching the ferry.

Chocolate chip pancakes on breakfast menu. (Only breakfast menu item [pancakes] served all day)

The food was absolutely amazing and i haven't eaten so much in any other place. The service was also amazing, food came out quick and great, Thea [our server] took my bacon off the bill when it was forgotten so that was amazing! The atmosphere was a bit quiet and empty but then again we went at 4pm. Thea was absolutely amazing, she was so sweet and funny, she was also very kind to the other staff! I would 100% recommend Pancake Chef Restaurant if you ever go to Mackinaw city! :)

This is our table 30 minutes after ordering...also we got an orange juice when we were supposed to get a coffee

We waited at least half an hour before they still didn't show up. No review on food because it never made it to our table. You can pick any other place around here & likely get better service. Pick another spot please

Came here for lunch. The service was fast and good. Not very impressed by the food with a dry fish patty. But the restaurant is called pancake chef so I assume that you would leave with a better experience eating their breakfast.

Came here before heading out of the city, seated very quickly and service was great. Our waiter was very busy but attentive. The food was also pretty good. Loved the pecan pancakes!!!

I couldn't decide what I wanted for a late breakfast, and I finally decided that pancakes or the like would hit the spot. I walked into Pancake Chef -- which is on the strip with all the other shops in Mackinaw City -- and there were hardly any people eating there, so I started to second-guess my choice. But, I was greeted warmly and quickly. They were switching from breakfast to lunch, and when I walked in, they still had the breakfast bar up but were also offering the salad bar. I took a look, but it didn't appeal to me, so I looked at the menu instead. What caught my eye was the banana bread French toast. It turned out to be amazing! Three large, thick pieces of banana nut bread turned into French toast and served with fresh fruit. It was so good that I didn't even want syrup or butter on it! I wasn't quite as hungry as I thought I was, so I only ate half of it at the time. But, being a good traveller, I had a cooler and ice with me, so it made my entire journey with me. Nothing like stepping into a car that smells of banana bread! I actually finished it after I got home. Even reheated several days later, it was still really good!

Been going here since 1973. New owner and decor, but still very good. Breakfast bar is no longer there and it seemed to be quite popular.

Mixed feelings about here…read more I enjoyed my whitefish basket & fries, girlfriend enjoyed her salad too. Live music on a beautiful late afternoon made dinner more enjoyable. Dollar bills all over the place which was interesting and seeing all the marker and crayon drawings on the table was unique but also felt dirty. Service was spotty. Host after directing us to where the wheelchair ramp was then chased us down challenging the legitimacy of our service dog asking for papers. It was busy so took a while for someone to get to our table for drinks. We did talk to someone about our earlier experience and they understood our concerns and passed it along to upper management.

Dixie Saloon Brewery, Mackinaw City, Michigan…read more Traveling from Grand Rapids with friends, we arrived at Mackinaw City on a weekday in June 2026. Our destination was Mackinac Island, and our ferry would be ready for boarding in about an hour, so we looked for nearby restaurants. We selected Dixie Saloon Brewery, which is located across the parking lot from where we would catch Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry. The Dixie Saloon is spacious, with a high ceiling and rustic décor. Included in the multiple themes decorating the place are towers to which all manner of currency has been fixed, suggesting years of the accumulation of real paper money. Between the four of us we shared a basket of onion rings ($9.99) and fries ($8.99) - they're on the menu featuring side dishes, but they easily fed the four of us. I had a Kentucky Mule (Bulleit Bourbon and ginger beer, $12), so our bill came to $46, which included state sales tax and a 3.5% Michigan administrative sustainability fee. Not a bad bill for lunch for the four of us. Service was great on a very busy Tuesday afternoon, and noise levels were moderate, allowing for easy inside-voices conversations. The waffle fries and onion rings came out within 20 minutes of our ordering them, drinks even sooner. They were piping hot and perfectly seasoned, with servings large enough that we didn't finish them by the time our ferry was starting to board. With just a five-minute walk we were on board and headed to the island. A very nice way to spend some time with friends over a light lunch.

The wait was about 15-20 minutes - so much better of a wait time! I like the theme and vibe of the place - the play on bikes and name of the restaurant is perfect. Decor is bike themed but not overly done. Rustic and laid back. Our waitress was excellent - very friendly and attentive. All staff were wearing masks. Good drink menu in addition to food. A lot of small plate options but the portion sizes of the small plates could feed at least 2-4 people. I went with sweet potato fries and steak tender bites - delicious! The dipping sauces for the fries had three different options - sweet/savory, loved trying each one. The sweet potato fries were not mushy and had a good crunch. The steak was cooked to perfection - I asked for medium and I got medium! Everyone seemed happy with their food. Restrooms were downstairs. Nice dining option in the city - only con there was no outdoor seating. Picking up on social media - looks like this place used to be Huron St. Pub & Grill not sure if it was a re-branding or new owners. Either way, I hope Broken Spoke is here to stay on the island!
