A cool little time capsule of a diner! The staff was friendly and the food was pretty ok. Exactly what you'd expect from a diner. The coffee was acceptable, but a little higher quality roast probably wouldn't hurt. The prices reflected a normal breakfast restaurant, not a diner... but understandable in today's economic storm. The interior was a vintage 50's style with short bar tops and stools that I have to assume are original. The coolers were all chrome and had awesome hinges that match the timeframe. Nostalgic to say the least, although I wasn't alive in the 50's. Seating was tight and scarce. Overall, in a crunch, I'd visit again, but don't expect much more than ok food and friendly service. We were there for breakfast this past weekend and that's enough for me. The owner was bordering on overly talkative, and the waitstaff helping her at the counter didn't seem to know what she was doing. My friend ordered a dish without onions that came to the table chock full. When questioned, the owner got defensive and told her that it's a pre-mix of peppers and onions so they can't separate it. But they could have mentioned that when she ordered and she would have changed her mind. Peeking in the door to the kitchen when they opened, there didn't seem to be any use of gloves or aprons and it was a mishmash of people who also looked like it was their first day. The food was mid. I ordered scrambled eggs and an English muffin. The eggs were hard and the muffin was barely warm and not even toasted. My husband had the same, but with bacon that was rubbery. The $25 bill that we were handed at the end of the "meal" was insult to injury for sure. The building is not in great shape at all. The owner was going on about the 80 year old soda fountain and it was only then I realized what it was as it was covered in all sorts of empty canisters and dust. The walls have large cracks running up the side and the bathroom leaves a lot to be desired in the way of cleanliness. There are other places for a good breakfast in St. Ignace. Avoid this one at all costs. Sub par at best. read more

It was moderately busy - tables full, but no line. First impression, cute place. But after picking up the disposable pepper shaker, I realized it was gross, salt shaker too, likely had never been wiped down. I lost my appetite and started scrutinizing the place. Windows in desperate need of cleaning, including the ice cream case. Cobwebs in corners. Light fixture in door way between the 2 doors was missing the dome and most of the fiberglass. There was a good wait for a table, restaurant was packed. We put our name down and waited outside for our turn. It was raining. The veggies omelet was fantastic. There was a server filling our coffee cups often, helped us pass time as our order took a while, as expected, in this small town with limited staff. I think they are doing their best to manage COVID-19 spread in their restaurant given how tiny the space was. Staff was wearing masks, not. Ugh Ventilation. The only place open the day after labor day. Staff was friendly, tried their best to keep up. Highly recommended if you are in the area. read more

This was the first time we stayed in St Ignace MI. My husband and I did not know where to eat breakfast so we drove down the street and we saw Bentley's so we stopped. There was no one waiting outside so we just walked inside the restaurant. Before we could open our mouths the hostess told us the wait is outside and the wait is 30 minutes and slammed the door. There was no one outside waiting and when I was inside I saw there were tables available. There was another couple that walked in after us and they got seated. I believe we were discriminated because we are a gay couple. We will never step inside that restaurant again if we are in the area again. read more

Great little place to stop for breakfast. This is our second time here while visiting St. Ignace. Small town feel with lots of local patrons. Cool original diner decor... black & white checkered floor... red seats... bar stools... very fun & nostalgic. Food is nothing fancy, but perfect egg/meat/potatoes or pancakes to start our day. The "Hostess" was visibly frustrated. We were told it's be a 45 min wait. As we watched everyone who came behind us be called to seat, we checked, they had crossed our name off the wait list. With no apology or acknowledgment, we were told it'd be another 35 min wait and breakfast would be over and not available. The place isn't that big, there's only seating for maybe 20. In my opinion, for a place that's supposed to have been in business since 1940, the staff were flustered and ill prepared. read more

A little family owned restaurant that serves wonderful comfort food. Hubby and I tried their pasties with gravy and we absolutely love it. Although,I would prefer a crispier crust for the bread,the chicken gravy made it tastier. They also have several choices of ice cream/shake including fudge. Pretty much the only place in town that's open at 7:00 am on a Saturday, and well worth it! This diner style place is clean and well-staffed. If you're not awake yet, the sassy (and loud) staff will have you coffee-ed and and filled up within minutes. I had the basic scrambled eggs, toast and Bacon and it was plenty filling and nicely done. We only visit the Straits a couple times and year so I hope they succeed and thrive! read more

Absolutely the worst waitress ever served me today; she was bitter from the second she seated me. The city's police officer who sat next to me did nothing but gossip about the locals (mostly in a negative manner). As a public servant, he's clearly in the wrong profession. Michigan is full of friendly people and three of the four people working at this place exemplify that truth. The fourth was outright obnoxious. Seriously, I thought I left all those servers behind in NYC. My two campions had eggs and reported disappointment. I had pancakes and I thought they were amazing. Fortunately, one of the other servers took over our table about halfway through the meal and she was super friendly. We chatted with her a bit about her Disney cruise and other trips. This is a great place to find good food in St. Ignace! Friendly, helpful staff, and delicious food. I got the famous chicken pastie, and recommend that you do too! Utterly delicious, and filling. I like it with the gravy, which adds a nice juiciness to it. Hubby got the fried shrimp and fries, which were exactly what he wanted. What a great little diner! It screams taste with their cute bar stools and old fashioned milkshakes. We just recently spent time in St. Ignace and we stopped here 3 times! Great each time! Cindy was an excellent waitress and hostess for the restaurant who knows the menu and has her favorites as such. She also took time to get to know us and offer suggestions for the are. So so happy we were able to have a pasty before heading back to PA (where have NO pasties). It was a Sunday night and nothing was open, so when I saw an Open sign in the window and another neon sign that said Pasties, I was there! This place is vintage and I loved it! My boys and I sat on the bar stools and enjoyed some chatter with the ladies working there. We had one of each kind of pasty - Chicken (with chicken gravy), beef (with beef gravy) and plain veggie. Best pasties we've ever had! I could eat the crust all day long. Soooo doughy and flavorful! The meat, potatoes, and carrots were perfectly mixed with herbs and spices. And they were huge! Well worth the $7.95. I actually shared mine with my son and had some left for my hubby to finish off. Only wish we'd had more time for pie and ice cream. The sea salted caramel ice cream would have paired perfectly with the homemade apple pie! Next time! read more

We went to this restaurant based on recommendation of various reviewing sites. We were looking for a breakfast place and apparently that was an issue for them at 10:50 AM. Due to the fact we ordered breakfast, there was enlongated our prep time for the order. The price was ridiculous. Most dishes were nearing the ten dollar mark. Plain white toast or wheat was included for free. Coffee was about two dollars for each cup, not included with a meal The coffee was watery and some of the worst I've had. That $10 price would be suitible if the food lived up to the standards in various reviews we saw. The portions were not suitible for the price either. Raw huge chunks of onions in my ommlet. Diced precooked ham, not even fresh. The ommlet was just eggs with cheese and gravy on top of raw onion, bland potatoes, and diced pre cooked ham. The service was poor. Two waitresses on the floor serving the customers. One waitress was younger and was pretty respectful. The other older waitress was rude and did not even deserve the 15% tip we included in the bill. She gave us insincere thanks and was overall very rude. The waitresses were not following mask protocol and the busboy didn't even wear one. The sanitization was poor as well. I would not recommend this place due to the price of the food and the significantly below average service. It was like a local version of a really bad Waffle Hause. At least Waffle Hause has good service. read more

Stopped in after reading the great reviews. It's a tiny little place but we got lucky and walked in and there was a booth that had just been cleaned off. The wait for the food took longer then normal. However when the food came I knew why. Everything was piping hot and made to order. There was no doubt everything is home made from scratch. My hubby had biscuits and gravy , I had a skillet and our boys had pancakes. Hands down the best pancakes and biscuits and gravy.
