Let's get some food! We had excellent service here and the food was great. Pleasant and comfortable environment. Kids meals were great, too.

And breakfast burritos! I just stopped into Boardwalk Coffee & General Store for a moment, but I did grab a breakfast burrito and some coffee. This is the closest coffee shop to the ferry dock in St. Ignace, so if you need food or beverage before heading onto or hopping off of the island ferry, this is a good place to visit. The decor is not my style, but is homey and comfy, with couches and recliners and mismatched furniture. It's almost like someone's mother-in-law died and her estate donated all of her furniture to Boardwalk. It looks like a nice place to sit a while and enjoy coffee, even though I didn't do that. My visit to Boardwalk was quick -- I just hit it and quit it. There's also a small general store, with things like local jams, fancy tomato paste and canned tomatoes, tortilla chips, cookies and other little fun durable goods. The kinds of things that you don't necessarily need, but when you see them, you think to yourself, "Why the heck not? I deserve this artisanal hot honey."

The drive up location had open spots so we took one and man we were happy. The waitress comes right to your window and takes your order, brings your food and takes your money. Cash only, but I was good with that. The waitress was very friendly, attentive and busy! She and one other were constantly going in and out taking orders, bringing food and working. The food....OMG! Go hungry if you decide to tackle their 1/2 to 3/4 lb burger. I thought I was hungry until that 1/2 lb burger came. So heavy, but soooo good. If you want a good old fashioned burger, this is it! No wonder they have a legacy and long wait time. Ours was 20 minutes this time. We had stopped another time and went in and found out it was over an hour. We passed then because of time constraints but nothing was holding us back this time. If you have passed this iconic place in the past and not stopped, you're missing out. They have other things on the menu besides burgers, so you should be able to accommodate most people in your group. So good!

My go-to is the half pound with cheese and fries and I typically take it across the street to the state park to view the Mackinac bridge while I enjoy my lunch. "Lets go down to the Sunset Grill We can watch the working…read moregirls go by" (Don Henley) We enjoyed a lovely late dinner at the Macinack Grille on Saturday night July 27. We didn't have reservations, so picked up a buzzer from the hostess and joined the crowd waiting in the gift shop or lounging around at the entrance. Our wait was about a half hour, and we were seated in a rear dining room that should receive a Gold Medal for Eclectic Design. Our table was covered in laminated Detroit Tiger baseball cards, and the walls were plastered with beer company paraphernalia and Detroit sports memorabilia. Our server Aimy brought our meal -a Cheeseburger Platter ($11.99), and for me a cup of Clam Chowder ($4.49) and Shrimp Steamers ($14.99). My meal was excellent, the chowder was served piping hot and was loaded with chopped clams and potatoes. And man, oh man, were the shrimps great. They were a half pound served shell-on "Caribbean style" with lemon and cocktail sauce. Yes, they were messy to eat but were so worth the mess. Aimy helped me out with a few wet naps. We had an excellent experience here.

Ordered walleye, baked potato, fresh vegetables, and a glass of Riesling. Was served 3 real small pieces of some kind breaded deep fried fish, baked potato, a small condiment cup of coleslaw, and a glass of Pino Grigio. The waitress, while friendly enough, did not have a good grasp of the English language. And all for just under $50. This place is definitely not depending on repeat business. Compared to this, place, Long John Silvers is 5 star dining. Walked away hungry and $50 lighter. I won't be back.
