On top of that I still have to cook dinner. This stand is my huge help to get through the week. A break, a relief, a breather when I feel like I'm drowning in everyday responsibilities. It's also an encouragement to keep going because of the workers whom are sisters, husband and wife, mother and daughter, grandchildren all working hard together. Giving great service with a smile on their face and making it through the everyday daily grind together. Type of Food: Buk Buk kitchen serves different Filipino dishes that my mom enjoys but I always come for the tasty, tender, marinated to perfection bar-b-q grilled chicken. A few times they offered Hawaiian dishes and other local dishes. Here and there I mix it a bit and get a combo with the thinly sliced beef. I get the family size which perfectly feeds my boys and I. Yeah, my husband has to fend for himself. It comes with 4 generous scoops of rice, salad, and four cut up pieces of chicken for $12. Locaton: Buk Buk kitchen is associated with Mahiku farmers market. They travel to different areas. Yay!!! Kailua has a food truck event! Finally. So if I fall asleep or sound drowsy it's cause I/we…read moreoverdid it, and now have that "I over ate and now need a nap" syndrome. We were so excited to have a food event come to Kailua that we bought a lot. I've forgotten some of the vendors that were there........The ones that I can remember were: Shogunai Fairy Cakes (no they weren't dressed up this time) Chicago Eats Thai Loco Foods Tats Shave Ice Xtreme Tacos Puffettes Egg Puffs Soul Lanikai Shrimp Truck & and an ice cream truck Hawaiian Soljahs is a youth baseball team and this is their fundraiser.......and they also have a booth with canned soda ($1.00), bottled water, and hot chocolate w/whipped cream. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=w7nmXIgqM_8tTZDUOLsLiA Enchanted Lake Elementary School had their own booth, selling Rice Krispie treats, shortbread, beef sticks, & Cookie Corner cookies. They were also taking orders for their Easter Imu pit !@ $20. BTW, they also do a Thanksgiving imu. It's a fund raiser for the 4th Grade Big Island trip. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=zB5WSLoBZ39KybDCMjZleA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=6iI-QUWMxnx5kpb4j-XkcQ So many choices that it was hard making up our minds. I love gyros so we were looking @ Chicago Eats, and someone ordering told us she was from Chicago, and the food tasted just like the food in Chicago (deep dish pizza, Chicago hot dogs, etc.). I ordered the gyro, and my husband ordered the hot dog. Next time it'll be the deep dish pizza. Even the kiddie pizza looked delish! I bought cupcakes, a lemon bar and carrot cake from Fairy Cakes. My husband bought a spicy ahi poke bowl w/brown rice which was fantastic. At another vendor we bought a sampler slider (set of 3; steak, meatloaf and veggie) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=Af1EahdCOhh3GV94oXS6bg There's always room for dessert, and I bought bread pudding which, thankfully, was very light http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=7o6gUL-qE-JeYiZw8l_a_w I can't remember the names of those food trucks....so if you recognizes the food let me know!! Today the hours were from 4-8. There were are a few stalls in the lot, but more on the street because there was basketball going on. The food trucks and tents are right in front of the cafeteria so there's lot of seating and no worries if it should rain. And no.....we did not eat all of that. We have leftovers for a midnight snack ;) ('ll post more pics later on when I come out of my food stupor.) Yelp 365 Challenge: #42/365

Wife went to the 5-0 Ribs truck and got, well, the ribs. Tasty and tender. She also gave me a sample of the brisket which tasted like some kinda meat heaven. The guys at the 5-0 Ribs truck were sooo friendly with great service. I went to the We're Cooking Fresh For You Truck and got the steak with pesto on brown rice and salad plate. It was actually quite healthy and had a nice side of fresh apple and pineapple slices. Fun events aside from food. Drag racing cars revving their engines. Live music. Dancing. Basket hoop games. Great place for kids. Then our demons came out. We went to the Aloha on Wheels Truck and got the dreaded...The breaded..... DEEP FRIED SNICKERS WITH BACON on a stick So much for working out. I can't finish this review without commentary on the name. Perhaps my mind is more twisted than most, but why name an event that sounds like you made it to 3rd base on your date with a woman named Kailua? Dining Out with Friendly Food Trucks and Drag Racers with Dancing In Enchanted Lakes. Fix'd.

If you have a shaved ice truck, so do you think is your target audience? Kids and their parents. Especially since this truck does school and birthday party events, children are who they mostly serve. With that being said, you would think the workers of such a kid-centered business would know how to interact with children OR to at least be decently nice to their customers right? Unfortunately, not this company. This truck was at my kids' school for an event. Luckily my son and I were literally second in line (and we luckily beat the crowd) right when they opened and started taking orders. Before ordering, a little girl who appeared to be in 2nd or third grade gave her money (which was only folded in half) to the man working. The guy rudely snapped at her to unfold her money. She accidentally gave too much money, and he again snapped at her in an annoyed tone to come back and get the extra money she paid him (on the bright side - at least he gave the extra money back to her). I was surprised at how cold he was to her When our turn came up, I gave him our name that our preorder was under, and once we got the cup of ice, I smiled to him and said thank you! No response, not even a trace of a smile back LOL later when I got home, my husband (who took my daughter after her after-school program) told me a similar story. He said kids walked away with their shave ice and cheerfully waved and said "thank you!" to the man working. He didn't even acknowledge them, but instead ignored them and looked annoyed In my opinion, customer service is important. You don't have to be overly friendly, but at least a "thank you" or being courteous to your customers (especially since most of these customers are young children) is expected. But man, this guy just seems bitter and must hate his life (and kids, apparently) - so why work in the customer service industry? I'm hoping this guy is not the owner as that would be even more shocking!

Having more businesses and a solid coffee shop with Kai Coffee expanding to Kalama Valley is a big welcome. This place is located along Kealahou St. Easy to find. Just turn in from the stoplight between Sandy Beach and Hawaii Kai Golf Course and drive a minute in. Plenty of parking! Cozy, clean, and comfortable place with indoor and outdoor seating. Usual coffee choices with breakfast wraps and sandwiches. Friendly and efficient service. Its signature Kai Latte was good with a nice balance of macadamia nut flavor to coffee. House coffee was brewed well. My only issue is the cup sizes. Large is definitely smaller than the usual and not even filled to the top! The Turkey Pesto sandwich was really good. Nicely portioned and prepared well. Warm, crispy flatbread. Tasty pesto. This sandwich inspired me to buy pesto and make it at home lol. Overall, a solid, little coffee spot in a quiet, calm neighborhood that is Kalama Valley. Conveniently located just a minute from the main highway. Nice, friendly service with well-prepared food and drinks.
