This place is great! Has saltwater, including corals, cichlids, community fish, and a nice variety of plants and snails. Also a huge selection of driftwood, petrified wood, and rocks. Why go to a chain store when you can get personal & professional service straight from the owner. I'm perplexed by a couple of the reviews on here. A person who owns a small business and runs it all by themselves has every right to set their own hours accordingly. I will work my shopping trips around Dave's life! I called in advance the other day to check store hours since it was a holiday week (pretty simple). I'd prefer to have to wait a day or two and know that I am going to get healthy plants and fish in the end! read more

Just inside Butler County in the Pisgah area is a small pet store called All About Pets. All About has not only pets such as fish and other small animals, but also a lot of pet supplies too. The best things about any pet store are the actual pets, especially the fish, so I went straight back to the large sections of tanks. They had a good, large selection of fish, some of the bigger ones I saw selling for over $30, and some of the cheaper ones even in coming with deals such as three fish for $10 or three for $21. Like any pet store there are a lot of neat fish, but I didn't see too many overly unique swimmers. As far as supplies go, they have everything from decorative plants and backgrounds for aquarium tanks, to raw hide bones, bowls and doggy nail trimmers. They really seem to have fit a ton of stuff into a small store, but the overall combination of pets and pet supplies doesn't stack up next to many of the stores I've been to over the years. If you have a pet and need some "supplies," chances are they will have it, but there are so many much nicer and larger stores. I liked it for what it was and the service was good too, but it was really in a junky location and the interior was not nice either. I think it was a pretty good store, but nowhere near great. Even though looks aren't everything, you tend to feel like you're in a great store when you walk into a nice store, and I didn't feel that at All About Pets. read more

This is my favorite place to get fish. The owner is great and very knowledgeable and not pushy. Always willing to help with any problems. I love that he get used equipment in from time to time to help tank owners save a little money. I like the fact he has a variety of sizes. Most big box stores only carry tiny fish. He seemed very knowledgeable and had lots of big aquariums with a variety of fish that seemed much healthier and happier than ones I've seen in bigger stores. All About Pets is always the first place I visit when shopping for my aquariums. Dave is friendly and very knowledgeable about fish. He will tell you the truth instead of just trying to make a sale. Several times he has advised me NOT to buy something I was considering. I've been in a couple of times when Dave was absent and his employees have always been helpful and friendly. I loved it when Brian (I think that's his name) didn't know the answer to my question and grabbed his cell phone to find accurate information. I have 10 variously sized freshwater tanks stocked mostly with his fish and have never had a problem with transmitting disease. Everything he has ever sold me is alive and thriving and some are years old. Dave's tanks are always clean and if he received sickly or suspect stock he won't sell it and has it clearly marked. Dave often has fish you won't find in the big chain stores. Twice when I was looking for a hard to find species he has checked with his suppliers to see if he could special order. I often go to All About Pets just to see what he has and get ideas. I've bought both new and used equipment there and have never had a problem with anything. When I had concerns about my 36 G BowFront, I brought it in and they inspected the seams for me. While he doesn't carry the massive amount of stock like the big chains, I often find unusual decorations. His prices are competitive with the local walk-in stores. While he may be more expensive than Amazon, I like to actually see a product before I buy it, especially if it's pricey. Too often I've ordered something on-line to discover it was not what I wanted and was then expected to pay the high cost of return shipping. Thankfully I have been able to donate both new and used items, instead of throwing it out. read more

Wow the store has potential. Unfortunately I probably will not be back to see it!!! Here's why!! I we Mr there on Sunday October 1st to maybe get a couple of saltwater fish for my 75 gallon fish only tank and I proceeded to ask the person who was there ( not the owner Dave) what may be compatible with the fish I have, which mind you are fairly peaceful. He was very rude with smart answers and would not assist me professionally. So I called the owner today October 3rd to let him know what was going on. He could care less about the issues I aforementioned and said he was 53 and would not work 7 days a week and will just close Sunday. Very unprofessional of an owner to do that. ( If you are that miserable as an owner sell the shop to someone who will take care of pets and customers alike Dave but do not treat the customers like crap.) read more

All about pets is the best place to go when you want to get started in the hobby of fish keeping. Talk to Dave the owner, the nicest down to earth guy you will meet. For being the only one working here. We are lucky that he is open as much as he is. My family and I have gone to him for OVER 15 years. He is like family to us. IF you know what you are looking for and know what you are doing, this is the place to go. Yes the place is little dark and needs to be picked up from time to time. But the service... you won't beat it. AS FOR THE DEATH IN FISH. Like I said before. IF you know what you are doing and you keep you water at the right specs... your fish won't die... We have bought fish from this store for over 15 years and not one has ever died. Yes they have died in general but not from like of care from the store, but by the age of fish. This location is near Mason and Westchester, the two most "Yippy" areas around. Everyone is that area expects perfection in everything. All About Pets is more then that. Its filled with great loving people and knowledge. Take this as you will, but don't let other people's opinions stop you from what could be a great time. I REALLY want to like and support local businesses. I've been in the fish keeping hobby for a few months now and All About Pets is located less than five minutes from my house. I was hoping it would be my "go to" fish store since it's close and locally owned. After six months of doing business with them, I'd give them 2-1/2 stars. I've been told that the owner, Dave knows a lot about fish. And, I guess this is true. I've been to three locally owned pet stores in Cincinnati and all the big chains. I get conflicting advice. So, I'm not sure who is right. Dave sold me three green Tiger Barbs to cycle in my first tank. At another store, the guy cringed when I told him I had Tiger Barbs. To be fair to Dave, he told me I could always bring them back after the tank was cycled. His prices on new equipment aren't the best and aren't the worst. You can do better on Amazon.com. But, if you need to pick something up in a hurry, he's likely to have it. I'm cheap and was thrilled to find that Dave sells used equipment. But, when I needed a filter for my 45 gallon tank despite all the used filters laying around, he told me there wasn't one of the appropriate size for my tank and I ended up buying a new one from him. I had just left PetSmart where I had gotten a great deal on a tank and wanted to buy the substrate and filter from Dave and save some money. Sadly, i didn't save on either. I've bought three Tiger Barbs, a Panda Cory Catfish, a Siamese Algae Eater and nine assorted small Cichlids from All About Pets. Generally I've had good luck with fish with very few casualties. The Panda Cory died a few weeks after I got him. Not their fault. The Tiger Barbs survived not only the cycling but live six months later (except one that was killed by a mystery disease thanks to PetSmart). I got nine cichlids from Dave about two weeks ago. Four have died. In the same tank I have 10 other cichlids I bought from Aquatics and Exotics. None of them have died. Dave's price on the small cichlids was better. But, when I take into account the casualty rate, they actually cost me more per fish than from other places. The first cichlid showed signs of being sick as soon as I got him home on a Saturday. By Sunday morning, he was floating. I tried to take the body back. But, All About Pets is only open until 4pm on Sunday and I got there about 20 minutes too late. Rather than keeping the body, I tossed it knowing they were closed on Monday. Tuesday I went back and mentioned to Dave what had happened hoping he''d just say "Pick out another fish". Nope. He needed to have the body. OK. I could have saved the body in the freezer. But, this wasn't a $10 fish or a $40 fish. This was a $4.00 fish. That left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I picked up another three fish that day, two of which have died. No more for me. As I said, I've had 19 cichlids in that tank, not one of the others have died. To be fair, all of the cichlids that died were very small, from the same tank. Maybe he just got a bad batch. Another experience that left me a little less than impressed. Since they sell used equipment, I thought they'd be interested in buying my equipment. My 45 gallon tank came with the standard hood and light. I upgraded the light. So, i had a 36" fixture that had hardly been used. When, I called to ask Dave if he wanted it, he showed almost no interest. I ended up dropping by and literally giving it to him. Since the store seems to be run by Dave and Dave alone (I've been in there probably a dozen times and he's always there- maybe with someone else helping out), the hours are constrained. They're not open on Monday. They're open for four hours on Sunday. During the school year, Dave closes for an hour or so in the afternoon to pick up his kid from school. That's fine. But, it took me about two or three trips to figure out that was what was going on as I seemed to keep going around that time. As I said, I really wanted to like this store. They do have a good variety of fish. Their cichlid collection is quite impressive and I trust their fish more than say PetSmart who sold me a gourami that wiped out four of my other fish with some mystery disease (within 48 hours). But, there are a couple of locally own fish stores I tend to trust more. read more

I've been looking for an aquatic store around me for a month now and stumbled upon this place. I had no idea what to expect walking in but Dave was awesome and was helpful as soon as I walked in. His variety of fish was nothing like I've seen around here. He was very knowledgeable and the prices were great. The fish all looked healthy and strived with vibrant colors. So excited to add cherry shrimp, angels and this badass phantom catfish he pointed out. I will be returning weekly to this place to see what else he adds! read more

All About Pets is by far the leading fish/ pet store I the Cincinnati area- Dave Simmons has some amazing fish, and a full array of supplies, at the best prices I have seen anywhere. He is a pretty savvy businessman as well. Combine this with his knowledge of fish, and other animals, and he is a the only place to go to for pets. I have been coming here for as long as we have had fish, probably about 8 years... Anyway, Dave is really great. He is very down to earth, and not flashy. Some people may take that as a certain non-nonchalance, but I just appreciate good-natured people, especially in business, not trying to push everything on you. Dave has a good selection of fish, and his prices are amazing. His advice was always helpful and really steered us on the right path in the beginning of our saltwater fish journey. When we first started, we were nervous about everything, reading hours and hours of blogs, buying tons of chemicals, medications, you name it. Dave always told us to "relax", take a more natural approach. Every since then, our fish have always lived for a very long time. We've bought fish, supplies, equipment, and even traded in some equipment with Dave over the years. I recommend this store to everyone. It's not fancy, because it doesn't have to be. After going to this store for about 4 years, when I saw that this store had low reviews I had to write about it. 4 years ago, the store was very messy. The problem was that they tried to fit too many products in too small of a store. About 2 years ago, they cleaned up their store and now everything is neat and tidy. They have a little of everything from lizards, to fish, to rodents for both feeding and pets, and also different food and products for all of these. They also take great care of all of these not only because they care but also because they are extremely knowledgeable about every animal and product in their store. I got a bearded dragon from this store a number of years ago and he told me everything I needed to know. I go to Petsmart about once every 3 months or so and every time I go there I pass by the baby bearded dragons and every single time the cage is messy, there are way too many lizards in the small cage, and the crickets they put in there are way too large for the size and the age of them. Overall, All About Pets is an amazing store and I will continue to go there for years to come. read more

True, this is a small store in a not great location. But the fact that it's been there for years, even given the economy, speaks for itself. Dave, the owner, went out of his way to special order food for my critters. I got a wonderful chinchilla from them that his daughter hand raised. I have purchased over 15 Cichlids, Peacocks and Haps, from Dave over the course of the last 6 months. They have all turned out fantastic and his prices were more than fair. I also buy a large amount of my supplies and equipment there, as his prices are extremely competitive for a retail store... Even cheaper than Amazon on some items. I have also sold him 2 used tanks in the past and in both situations he has given me fair prices and was easy to work with. Im heading there right now, to check out his updated stock. I have been going to this store for YEARS! The owner Dave is very helpful and knowledgeable. Is the store small? yes. Is it older and not a big new sterile chain? yes. But the service more than makes up for this. They sell just about any thing and everything you could need petwise, and if they don't have it, just ask and they will get it. They sell new and used cages, which is fabulous for those on a budget. I have bought many aquariums from them over the years, used, and never had any leakage issues or any other problems. They back what they sell. Having a problem with a product? They will help you fix it instead of just sell you a new one. The service is superb, they care about their business and you will NEVER find that at a big chain pet store. I live 45 minutes away and pass by many many chain stores just to go where the service is. read more

This is a store that cares about their fish. I mean really cares. You aren't going to see the mass genecide of a petsmart tank here. All the tanks are individually filtered unlike most chains, meaning that a disease in one tank will stay in that tank and not spread to others. Dave (the owner) is an aquatics guru. He has always been a huge help with any fish problem I may be having and I can call him on the phone to get answers to some of my questions, not even questions about a product, just general questions about proper fish care. They are negotiable on prices for fish and other items and will take trade-ins. I once had a bad experience with a product that I had purchased here, and I had made some alterations to the product that I could not remove (cutting and such) expecting to be turned down I attempted to return this item and much to my delight Dave apologized for my troubles and gave me full in-store credit for my purchase. I have never seen a store more dedicated to offering excellent customer service, proper advice on fish care, and practicing proper fish husbandry. While sometimes the selection of fish may be lacking Dave is willing to order in anything you request when it comes available through his suppliers andis always stocked with brand new high-quality products as well as discounted used items. I would reccomend this store to anyone tired of the lack of expertise and diseased fish offered by chain stores. Way to go All About Pets! read more
