Reached out through Yelp for roof maintenance and Alberto answered right away. We set up a time for him to come by for an estimate the next day. He was on time and spent quite a lot of time inspecting my roof & taking pictures to show me the work needed. He gave me a fair price and set up when he would be back to do the work. He was on time and spent nearly the whole day cleaning the roof, replacing broken tiles, cleaning gutters and recaulking flashings. I can honestly say my experience is different from others. There were a few negative reviews on this company about a "language barrier", I'm white and had no problem speaking with Alberto. The job they do is not easy. Alberto, showed great professionalism while dealing with me. The original price quoted did not change. As far as the work, Alberto told me when my house was built they did not use the proper size nails to secure the tiled shingles to the roof which caused them to fall off. When I asked if he could put longer nails in the others that may fall off in the future he said that will not be a problem he will take care of it.  Alberto, has all the right to refuse service to the ungrateful clients that try and weasel the price down because of a" language barrier". Alberto speaks good english. In such a terrible economy with the cost of living so high the price was reasonable and the work was completed in a timely manner. I needed a new roof on my house and Alberto quickly responded and provided a quote. I thought he did a good job on the quote and explanation of the work. I also needed a quote for some sheetrock repair due to a leak in my existing roof and his rate was competitively priced for that work as well. The problem happened after he agreed to take on the job for the sheetrock repair. The day before the work was supposed to start I had sent a text message. Alberto did not tell me who was doing the job, when they would arrive and some other key details. I presumed he was either sending a crew or one of his workers for the sheetrock repaid. In my text, I inquired about the arrival time as well as if the people coming to do the repair spoke decent english for me to communicate with. That is exactly how I wrote the text with no derogatory connotations. I do not speak Spanish and have had challenges in the past with non-English speaking crews with no one on site to communicate with who did a job improperly due to a complete language barrier. This request has absolutely nothing to do with prejudice or anything of that matter. Due to past experiences it is important for me to communicate with someone on site. Especially when dealing with interior work that requires measurements, can light placement and potential wiring. Communication is a must. This is where Alberto became very unprofessional. I received a reply insinuating something I did not say. Alberto implied he was offended since he thought we communicated well during the quote and then said he refused to do the job abruptly, less than 24 hours before the job was supposed to start. I responded to his text in a kind manner saying there must of been a misunderstanding. I did not know he was doing the job himself (therefore no language barrier) and I was only inquiring about potential language barrier problems. Alberto never took a second to reply to the text. Just essentially accused me of being a bigot and ghosted a job that was supposed to start within 24 hours. I think this behavior is not good and I caution others about his ability to handle himself professionally. If you are doing big $10,000+ jobs (roofing) or even $750 jobs (sheetrock repair), you need a stable and competent contractor. Alberto may do good work and I believe he is very capable. I just would of hated for his attitude or behavior to of shown up during the job itself. I wish him all the best but thought I should share this experience with others. The process of finding contractors and inviting them into your home while paying out fairly large sums of money is stressful. His behavior just makes this entire process bad for everyone. Both the contractors and the home owners. ** I did find an excellent sheet rock repair person here on Yelp who is Ukrainian. He did not speak any english but used google translate on his phone to get the job done. He did incredibly good work with his wife and I couldn't be happier. To be clear, I just need someone who I can communicate with. This has nothing to do with even speaking english. I just need a person willing to put in the effort to communicate to produce proper results that lead to no issue between both parties. The contractor is "TS HANDYMAN" here on yelp. I was able to make the deposit of 60% and they scheduled to start the next day. Over the course of a 3 days the work was completed inside and out. With the final 40% being paid upon satisfaction. He was nice and courteous and let me know when he was leaving and arriving for the day.
