Securely installed in grass, providing a strong safety barrier while keeping your yard open and attractive. - In this photo series you will see a complete mesh pool fence installation built directly on a grassy surface. This project highlights the right way to install a fence in grass while keeping the finished look neat and secure. Site preparation and layout The process began with careful planning. Before any sleeves or footings were placed, the grass was cut and removed in clean sections to mark where each pole would be installed. This creates a precise line for the fence and prevents damage to the surrounding yard. The layout uses gentle curves instead of sharp angles. Sharp turns are difficult in grass, so smooth curves create a cleaner look and help the installation go more smoothly. PVC sleeves and concrete footings PVC sleeves were arranged on the ground to show the exact spots for each fence post. These sleeves guide the placement of the PVC sleeves and concrete work that follows. Once the positions were confirmed, concrete was poured to form solid footings. The sleeves sit inside the concrete, creating a secure foundation for the removable aluminum poles. Round terminating post in grass In one section a round terminating post was used to make a 90 degree turn. This type of post makes a clean transition and holds the mesh securely. It also reduces stress on the mesh where the fence changes direction. In-progress details Some photos show the job while still in progress. PVC pipe is extending from the freshly poured concrete footings. These pipes mark where the aluminum poles will go and show how the fence structure is anchored. Mesh and hardware When the structure is ready, the mesh panels are installed between the poles. All-Safe mesh fencing meets or exceeds ASTM safety standards and is designed to be difficult for children to climb.       We purchased or home before it was built. Our builder installed wooden side gate was already…read morerepaired once and now was sagging, warping and just getting old. It was time to replace it with something sturdier and less likely to warp, shrink, fade. I did a lot of research on what materilas would best hold up to the brutal So Cal summers we have. I also had to keep within the Architectural guidelines of our HOA for fences. I found a company in Orange, CA, called SoCal Gates. I established contact with the owner, Ray, who is a really knowledgeable and personable guy to work with. We scheduled an appointment for him to come to our home to show us color samples of the composite material we would choose for him to use in our steel framed gate. Ray arrived, and had us look at the different colored composite samples while he took his measurements. He then went over with us the color choices and which ones would intergrate best with our home's exterior colors, including the tiled roof and front entry door and garage door. He explained how he visualized the gate would look, once mounted. We agreed on the materials and and the price. He mentioned that his installation pricing included the removal of the gate from the cinder block wall it was attached to, but did not include the removal of the old fence post or the haul away fo the old fence. After hiring another fence company to remove the fence post, back fill with concrete and haul away all of the old fence, Ray told he would've done it had I specifically asked him, for an extra charge. In fact, he told me how to remove the old post myself, so that gave me the impression he would prefer to just to install the gate with the old fence gone and the area prepped for his installation. After the HOA approved my gate plan, It only took a few weeks for Ray to build our gate and to schedule a date and time for the installation. On the day of the installation, I watched Ray assemble and install my agte, He is meticulous and thoughtful throughout his installation process. He showed me how to change out the composite planks if I ever needed to, and how to program our electronic lockest. We are very happy with out new sturdy, side gate. I would recommend anyone needing a new steel framed gate with composite planking to contact Ray.

Myke came out personally and spent the better part of two hours fixing the issue - not only thoroughly reinforcing the door frame but also upgrading the other side of the frame with a new customer stopper to increase security but also improve the operation of the door.       Good finished work, but this experience changed my opinion significantly…read more TL;DR: I previously gave Hicks 5 stars after our first project, and they still feature that review on their website. We hired them again and have now spent tens of thousands of dollars with them. Both pergolas look very good. On this second project, Hicks chose to handle an unexpected sprinkler conflict rather than have me bring someone else in, the repair failed, and it appears they never performed the basic test to make sure it worked. When I raised it, the owner became hostile, insulted me, and hung up on me. I later gave Hicks a written opportunity to inspect or fix it before anyone else touched the repair and received no response. That experience changed my opinion of the company significantly. I hired Hicks again because our first project had been a genuinely good experience. Across both jobs we had worked through material and scheduling delays, possible conflicts with power lines and solar panels, and changes involving the patio flooring without major problems. Both finished pergolas look very good. The sprinkler issue came up immediately before excavation. Nothing in the estimate or our earlier discussions gave me reason to think the footings would extend outside the existing concrete patio and into the grass. I first realized that when I saw the red excavation markings and noticed they conflicted with a sprinkler head and the line serving other heads. I raised it immediately. Since the contract says Hicks is not responsible for sprinkler routes, placement, or repairs, I specifically offered to coordinate and pay for someone else to handle it. Hicks told me that was unnecessary, that they had the fittings they needed, and that their crew would cut, move, and reconnect the line. I took that as a professional courtesy and relied on what they told me. While they were excavating, I also offered to turn the sprinkler zone on remotely from my phone so they could test the repair. They did not take me up on it. Since the system is easy to activate in person, I assumed they would simply test it themselves. Project delays had compressed the schedule, and we were rushing to finish the walkthrough and final payment before I left on a business trip the next day. We carefully checked the pergola itself, which looked good, but forgot the sprinklers. A day or two later, while traveling, I realized we had missed that check. I activated the zone remotely and could see through my backyard camera that something looked wrong. Rather than bother Hicks based only on a remote view, I waited until I got home to verify it. Several heads that were clearly working immediately before excavation no longer worked, and a substantial amount of water was leaking beside the new installation. The zone was effectively unusable for around two weeks, and parts of the lawn it normally waters developed obvious dead and brown patches. Hicks later acknowledged in writing that "a fitting must've came loose" and that perhaps there had not been enough glue. The repair itself is not what turned this into such a big issue for me. The way it was handled did. During about a five-minute phone call, the owner got heated and defensive, used foul language, called me names, spoke disrespectfully, and hung up on me. He later told me that I "don't know how this works" and that he was not going to read my written explanation. This was completely unlike anything I had experienced with Hicks before. After that, I sent a written notice giving Hicks an opportunity to inspect or arrange to fix the problem before anyone else touched it. I got no response. After the deadline passed, I had the area excavated and repaired. The sprinkler pipe was physically separated at a connection in the area of the leak, which I documented with photos. The system is now working again. What bothers me most is that Hicks chose to take on the sprinkler work, apparently did not do the most basic test afterward, and then treated me this way when I raised the problem. That is especially disappointing because they previously handled a warranty issue very well. A few months after our first pergola was installed, the integrated lighting controller failed after apparently getting water in it. Hicks came back promptly and fixed it at no charge, which increased my confidence in using them again. Both pergolas look very good and Hicks deserves credit for that. But part of hiring a contractor is trusting how they handle problems after final payment. After this experience, I no longer feel comfortable recommending Hicks, I am concerned about relying on them for future warranty work, and I would not hire them again unless this is made right. That is why I am updating my previous 5-star review to 2 stars. I will update this review again if and when the situation is resolved. EDIT: Not a warranty claim. I offered to hire a pro; Hicks chose to do the repair, so they still had to use reasonable care.

I'd recommend others ask detailed questions about licensing, insurance, and policies upfront so they can make an informed decision. This is a child safety product, it's not worth cutting corners over a lower price. **Update after owners response** Thank you for confirming that you are not licensed. That clarification is important, because in California, a contractor's license is not optional for this type of work, t's a basic consumer protection requirement for projects over $500. It ensures a contractor has verified experience, understands building and safety codes, and carries the appropriate protections for the homeowner. Pool fencing, in particular, is not just another home improvement project, it's a critical safety feature designed to prevent accidents. If you're cutting corners by not having your license I can only imagine what you do with these installations. Sad that we, the consumer are not knowledgeable enough to see what looks right and what doesn't. And I wouldn't trust any of your 200 reviews, offering incentives tied to reviews makes it difficult for consumers to evaluate feedback objectively. Reviews are supposed to reflect independent customer experiences, not be influenced by discounts or perks. At the end of the day, homeowners take on significant risk when hiring an unlicensed or uninsured contractor. If something goes wrong, whether it's property damage, injury, or faulty installation, the liability can fall back on the homeowner, and there may be little recourse. My review reflects those concerns so others can make informed decisions, especially when it comes to something as important as safety around a pool. So to all reading the reviews, beware that these reviews are based on receiving an incentive, which obviously is against Yelp's terms and agreements but, I'll let Yelp figure that one out.
