This new restaurant in downtown Silver Spring did a great job on interior design. Everything inside is nautical themed and the place is spacious and roomy. There is an outside patio for those nicer days in Silver Spring. We ordered the chicken sandwich and the short ribs. The presentation of the food is very nice, the short ribs were on top of mashed potatoes. Both the chicken sandwich and the short ribs were good, the short ribs could have been a little more tender. Service was fantastic. We also came back another time for happy hour--can't beat $1 oysters! We bought 3 dozen oysters (can you tell we love oysters?) and got their chickpea fries, their fish tacos, smoked fish dip, and their house punch and a beer. Their chickpea fries, which I have never had before, were an interesting twist to fries, but very hearty. Their fish tacos came in a trio and the fish was battered in a cornflake crust and had a nice crunch to it without being oily. The only complaint I have is that even for happy hour, the prices are a little high. All in all, great addition to the downtown Silver Spring area! read more

First of all, free chickpea fries with Yelp check-in. The dish comes with five neatly stacked fries with ketchup and an avocado lime ranch dipping sauce. Five didn't seem like much, but the fries are hearty and two is plenty to snack on. The fries are a mix of chickpeas, zucchini, and garlic. Yum! Second of all, happy hour is 1pm until close on Sundays, and they have $1 oysters (minimum order of 6). Talk about a good deal! The oysters were on the small side, but fresh and delicious nonetheless. They also have $5 happy hour cocktails. I'm not a big drinker, but their drink selections sure were tempting! In addition to the chickpea fries and oysters, we also ordered the mussels ($8) and fish tacos ($3.50/taco) off the happy hour menu. The mussels are an appetizer, but the serving is big enough to qualify as an entree. It's also served with toasted bread to soak up the white wine and garlic sauce. After having a recent mussel snafu at Red Lobster, All Set sets the bar high and does it right. I wasn't that hungry for our early dinner, so I ordered two fish tacos (regular dinner menu is three fish tacos for $12 - aka $4/taco; the happy hour menu gives you more flexibility). The fish had a cornmeal-crusted exterior which gave it some good texture. The tacos came with a cool coleslaw with a kick, more of the delicious avocado lime ranch sauce, cilantro for freshness, and a squeeze of lime for acidity. If I'm gonna nitpick, the ratio of tortilla to filling was a little off (too much tortilla), and a piece of fish in one taco was significantly smaller than the other, but the fish tacos were still enjoyable and I would order them again. Service was great. We were greeted by the host when we entered and then seated immediately. They refilled drinks without prompting. I would categorize All Set more on the fine-dining end of the spectrum in terms of clearing plates and the table settings, but it's still casual enough to watch the sports game (they had outdoor seating with TVs playing World Cup matches) or to bring young children (there were lots of families with small children dining in, and the restaurant was ready to accommodate with high chairs). The nautical theme is both refined and relaxing. Their patio area is also dog-friendly! Dishes were brought out timely and our waitress checked on us regularly. We were well taken care of. On our way out, we saw that All Set has $12 lunch deals, which includes a soda, entree, and cookie for dessert. Sign me up! Not bad. Got the free chickpea fries with my check-in and the service started out great. Then our server seemed to vanish. Another girl took over our table and we got a beverage order in. Later a guy took our table over and he was nice enough but a little scattered. My friend had the chicken which she really liked. It was a good portion​ and moist, she ate it all. I had the soft shell crab blt which sounded better than it was. The crab was smaller than the bread so I wasted a lot of the bread, and ate the crab which was nice. The fries were only okay and I did not finish them and I am a fry freak so there ya go. We waited forever to find our server (the last one) to get out check and settle - only after getting the hostess to track him down - so it could have been a better experience but I would probably go back and try it again. read more

Started off with the wings and the tuna tartare. The wings are awesome-- it's a nice change in flavor from what I usually get. The tuna tartare seemed kinda mushy to me; wasn't bad but wasn't that good either. My friend and I split the clam chowder. I'm not sure what to think about it being green... But it was okay. We ate it but I wouldn't recommend it. For my entree, I got the lobster roll. It's weird how it could taste super unhealthy but not be super delicious at the same time. Usually those two go hand-in-hand, lol. Maybe it's the butter that they use that makes me not love it. Definitely eat it with the chips to add texture though. I came here for Sunday brunch at around 11:30/12, and our party of 4 was seated immediately. Three of us ordered our own cocktails (our designated driver chose coffee instead), but we all agreed to let everyone try some of each. The Wicked Good Morning (cinnamon whiskey, almond cream, coffee syrup, and coffee), Perfect Storm (rum, lime, pineapple, and ginger beer), and Queen Bee (gin, yellow chartreuse, lemon, elderflower liqueur, and lavender syrup) all got a unanimous thumbs up. I chose the black bean and quinoa burger for my meal. I appreciated the seedy and hearty whole-wheat bun, which was much more filling than the typical fall-apart white burger bun, and the addition of chipotle coleslaw as a burger topping, which prevented the patty from seeming too dry. I wasn't sure what to expect with the chickpea fries, but they were absolutely delicious, with a lightly crispy golden exterior and a fluffy, moist interior. To give you a sense of how good these were: the friend to my left who had also ordered the veggie burger and had pretty much finished her meal asked me if I was going to finish my last fry, which had been sitting unattended on my plate for all of 5 minutes, clearly hoping that my answer would be no - and this is coming from a person who proclaims she's "stuffed" after the smallest snack. While some people might balk at the prices (each cocktail was $12 and the burger $14), I do think that the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere make it worth it. I'd definitely make the 30+ minute trek back here solely for the chickpea fries. However, it would be great if the menu could include some more vegetarian and vegan options, even if only pointing out how existing dishes could be modified to suit dietary preferences (ie: substitute vegan cheese) so customers wouldn't feel picky or difficult for asking. It's worth noting that the only vegan option on the brunch menu was the burger - unless you want to count the fresh fruit side - and even though it's so good you won't mind being 'stuck' with it, having at least the choice between a sweet or savory meal would be far better. read more

I have been here twice and really need to get back here because the food was awesome. They have a nice happy hour that you can have from ANYWHERE in the restaurant. I loved that because generally people try to restrict you to the smallest area for happy hour and its cramped and just unhappy. We sat outside during the summer and enjoyed the nice breeze. Everything came out hot, fresh & you could tell, a lot of care. We cstopped in for quiet Saturday lunch & really enjoyed our choices. Started off sharingwith chicken wings - deliciously fried, plump & for me, just enough Old Bay. Followed up, with clam chowder (little too much bacon for my taste) and cesear salad with wonderful anchovy flavor. I didn't taste my companions burger, but the shrimp po boy was delicious. We also ordered wine, a stormy drink; every was surprisingly good. Not one complaint were food is concerned Service, was a inch past average. I did expect more but We did arrive late. The only issue I had was the slight order that lingered inside. We opted for a seat outside. Hopefully, this was a one time incident. I visited for the first time today for my son's birthday and it was by far the worst experience ever. When attempting to enter the restaurant, I was a bit confused where to enter so I asked an apparent female employee, little did I know she was the host. Anyway she informed me we could enter that way, we made our way in and waited for what felt like several minutes for her to decide to come in. She finally came in and I kid you not, we waited for about another 8 minutes for her to even acknowledge us, never even greeted us or at the very least used a hand gesture. Not only was she not personable, but we all felt she felt bothered by our presence. At this point I don't know if her unpleasant attitude was because we are Latin American or she assumed we couldn't afford to dine there. Anyway, luckily our server was pleasant for the most part but the bland food, the super long wait for basic dishes and the hostess lack of customer service and uptight personality overshadowed the good. It's probably better to get separate checks at a place like this when you have several people, some getting drinks, some getting sides/desserts. All the staff at this restaurant are very pleasant. I work in the building this restaurant is located on the lower level. On days when I am too busy to walk and get food I or carry out.. Today Friday was one of those days. I order ribs and coke slaw. The ribs were awful, apparently just taking out of the refrigerator and place in a carry out container and place in the bag. I enjoyed my time here at All Set. I came here on a Sunday evening during Phase 2 of reopening from the pandemic. They had their patio open, and while there were a few other tables dining, it was relatively quiet. The staff all had on masks and gloves and it was suggested that patrons also wear their masks when their waiter or waitress comes to the table. This is the new normal. I ordered the warm lobster roll and substituted the fries for Mac and cheese instead. The lobster roll was delicious. The bread was toasted just perfectly. It was warm and soft. The lobster meat was abundant. There were nice sized chunks and the butter sauce that comes on it is delectable. It was honestly perfect. The Mac and cheese left a lot to be desired. The noodles were a bit hard, like they were undercooked. And the flavor wasn't great. But I ate it because I was hungry lol. My friend had the lobster Mac n cheese and she liked it. I took off a star because the host originally sat us in the way in the back. A part of me thought I guess it's good because we weren't close to any other patrons. But it was so far away it didn't even feel like we were a part of the same restaurant. After my friend arrived we requested to be move to one of the many other open tables that were closer to civilization. That same host also brought us out a pitcher of water and glasses for us, but didn't pour the water for us. I also thought that was weird, but I again told myself that maybe it's because of COVID. Hands down one of the best dining experiences I have had in quite some time! Jake, our server, recommended that we try our Sriracha cheddar biscuits with some freshly made honey-butter and we are SO glad we did. My blood pressure just went up. Not from the service, which is top notch, but from the food. Is their only spice salt? More water please, I said to the waiter after a few bites of the chicken wing appetizer. And keep it coming, I said after one bite of the cheddar muffins. I've never had food that was so flavorless other than salt. Everyone check your blood pressure because it's gone up half a percent if you've eaten there. The tacos, the wings, the crab cakes, the entire table was awash in salt. So terrible! However, the staff was great! Everyone from the host to the servers were fantastic. I used to love this place. Would go out of my way to come here for happy hour. Then they took happy hour away during Covid times. Well, they brought it back and screwed it up! The wings and fish tacos are gone, the drinks are subpar, and they still have Covid tax when they're back to being open at full capacity. And it truly was perfect, the pineapple and ginger complimented the rum exquisitely, it was a well rounded cocktail. It paired well with my oysters on the half, which were chilled to perfection, with a sweet yet briny taste. The main event was the TROUT CRAB MEUNIERE, a filleted trout on top of a bed of roasted vegetables, glazed with a white sauce and topped with lump crabs meat. This dish was straight from farm to table, you could taste the freshness of the trout, along with the purple potatoes and other root vegetables. All Set has adapted really well to our pandemic environment. We have been getting takeout from them about twice a month since March. They have figured out how to package everything so it stays fresh, the ordering system is easy, and everyone is very pleasant (including when I had a minor hiccup with an order). The food is great. The COVID menu has most of our all-time All Set faves - Old Bay wings, Sriracha biscuits, lobster roll, chickpea fries, steak and cheese - and has also incorporated a new barbecue aspect that is quite high quality. The fact that they sell from their lovely wine list to go is another high point. We haven't dined outside recently but the patio was always pleasant pre-COVID and I expect it remains so. It was a great time to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in awhile. We were looking forward to the Drag Brunch at All Set R & B. Great service. Our server was on the ball despite having to dodge dancing drag queens. For a $10 cover charge, the show was a decent distraction, but it was more dance, a bit vulgar, & lip sync rather than the entertaining variety show and hilarity I was expecting. Now, back to the restaurant. It was EXPENSIVE and the food was barely mediocre. Not even close to the taste and quality I'd experienced during happy hours sponsored by work. I chose this venue for our lunch because of the delicious food we'd had here previously, but what we got on this visit did not meet expectations at all for the prices. Bottom Line: All Set was not a good deal at all as far as food and drinks go. For food that seemed to race to the table before the show started, my sandwich and fries were cold and not full of flavor or mouthwatering. For the amount of the tab for drinks and food for four (they automatically tacked on a 20% gratuity and I'm not even sure whether the tip was based on the $40 cover charge), the drag show should have been free. I won't pay these prices again for this ordinary unimpressive fare. Won't be back. read more
